Supporting student behavioral and mental health needs proactively and in crisis through multitiered systems of support (MTSS).

WHY? Data at the national, state and local level demonstrate a need to support student behavioral and mental health: American Academy of Pediatrics calls it a “national emergency” 78% of secondary students show moderate/high depressive symptoms (OK Prevention Needs Assessment, 2020). 17% of youth in Edmond have considered suicide (Edmond System Assessment by Healthy Minds Policy Initiative, 2019).

Pre-School 415 families provided a smart start through Early Birds. Elementary 622 elementary educators and administrators trained on Conscious Discipline. All Pre-K through 5th grade provided curriculum support through book, calming stations and feeling buddies impacting 11,198 students. Secondary 744 calming kits provided for secondary classrooms. Calming centers established in secondary schools, impacting over 15,000 students. Added and continued curriculum including Signs of Suicide (SOS) and Project ALERT. District-Wide Partnership with NorthCare to provide case workers and a therapist in each vertical. Trust-Based Relational Intervention (TBRI).

2018

Private donor invests in behavioral and mental health supports launching initiatives to strategically and proactively address behavioral and mental health needs of students in the district.

2019

Private donor invests in behavioral and mental health supports and district continues to evaluate needs and impact of new programming.

2020

Pre-Covid Edmond Behavioral Health Assessment released and EPS Foundation works with community to find additional behavioral and mental health supports.

2021

Covid shows additional mental health affects on students. EPS Foundation adopts strategic plan to assist in securing behavioral and mental health support for students.

2022

EPS Foundation supports partnership with NorthCare to provide case managers and therapists district-wide and seek additional funding partners to support mental health programming.
