Breeder Spotlight! Kruger Farms! Hastings, MN
Paul Kruger of Kruger Farms, talks with the MSA about their operation!
Tell us about your current operation: Krueger Farms is multigenerational family operation with my parents David and Cindy, my wife Cassie, and my kids Blake (10), Luke (7) and daughter Bree who is 3. Our farm consists of 1000 acres of corn, beans, wheat, rye and alfalfa. We also have 115 Simmental cows, raise all calves and buy a few more every year. My father also feeds out sheep. In addition, our family also has a custom harvesting business, which includes chopping, baling, combining, and everything else that needs to be done. Lots of moving parts happening at Krueger Farms! How long have you been breeding Simmental genetics?: Roughly 25 years. We got into Simmental genetics in 1995. I always showed Simmi-cross steers in 4H and did very well. I wanted to get a heifer to expand my 4-h experience. Who got you into using Simmental Genetics? Jim & John Grass got me into Simmental cattle. My mom, Cindy, was on the MLBA auction committee with the Grass boys. They were having a little sale at Jim’s place in Owatonna where we bought an RBS Mr. Cash heifer. We all had a good chuckle when we received the registration papers and Jim had named her Cindy! Mr Dunk was the bull she was bred to that year. First Simmental bull you used (back in the day): Black Mick What is your favorite Simmental sire group of calves this year: Our favorite sire groups are CCR Cowboy Cut and TJ Main Event. Fun Fact about your family/operation: Blake gets to experience his 2nd Jr. Nationals in Brookings this year. He is the master breeding decision maker around Kruger Farms and does planned matings for all the cows!

“This past February was a great time for us and we felt very honored to receive the Traveling Bell award from the association. It always feels great to be recognized by your peers for the work that we do. Receiving that award made us feel like we had truly become a member of the association. We felt truly humbled when you go through the list of past recipients and realize the generations of Simmental enthusiasts who have received the bell before. The MN Association is truly a joy to be a part of and represent and we are reminded every time we see the bell. “ –The Schoenfelds

See you in 2021 Minnesota State Fair! 2020 has certainly been a whirlwind year of planning and cancelling, more planning and more cancelling. COVID-19 has caused an enormous amount of cancelations including most state fairs around the country. Although most Minnesotans will go through withdrawals of Sweet Martha’s cookies, Donna’s rib sandwiches, French Fries and those awesome Gopher Dairy Bar malts, there is something for our 4-H and FFA kids to look forward to toward the end of the summer. An awesome set of parents and volunteers have formed MYLE, Minnesota Youth Livestock Expo. Follow their Facebook page for all the upcoming details!
