THIMECO, leather in harmony with nature A SUCCESS STORY OF ONE OF THE MOST PROMINENT TANNING COMPANIES IN RECENT YEARS The Italian tanning industry, mainly made up of small and medium-sized enterprises, is considered a world leader in the sector. The Veneto region, headed by the province of Vicenza (which produces 51% of the Italian turnover, 32% of the European turnover in the sector and 8% on a global scale) specialises in the production of leathers for the automotive, leather goods, footwear and furnishing sector. Right here, in Montebello Vicentino, starts Thimeco’s story.

Past and present The company was actually founded in November 1998 in Tuscany, thanks to the idea of Jouri Doumler, to give an important support and development to the Russian tannery “VKP LT” in terms of innovation and quality, taking adavantage of the Italian avant-garde.

Subsequently, in 2016, he opened a small sales office in Montebello Vicentino, which in a few years exponentially expandend thanks to the opening of new spaces and warehouses, becoming a reality known worldwide.

Technological development, experience, professionalism, respect for the environment and stylistic innovations have always been key elements that distinguish the company. In the Thimeco research laboratory, technicians and stylists create daily new products respecting the environment, with the aim of safeguarding our planet.

The semi-finished leather arrives to Thimeco, in Montebello Vincentino, and is ready to be finished and transformed into various items, in line with the latest trends, controlled by expert selectors, measured with the latest generation and maximum precision machinery, to be finally shipped to the customer.

A state-of-the-art service Each year the company distributes millions of square metres of leather worldwide. And to respond to an evolving market that requires ever faster deliveries, the company has created the prompt delivery service named ‘Speedy’. Customers can purchase, on the thimeco.it website or at the Thimeco showrooms, a wide range of items which are delivered within just 48 hours.

In addition, the Thimeco warehouse has always over 400,000 square metres of crust leather available in order to promptly satisfy customer orders. A large reserve divided into a range of 24 colours of a thickness of 1.0/1.2; another range of 20 colours of a thickness of 1.2/1.4; and finally 8 colours of a thickness of 0.8/1.0.

To best meet the customer’s needs at all times, Thimeco srl is present in the Veneto region, in Montebello Vicentino, where the main office, production, commercial offices, storage warehouse and retail are located, but it is also present in Tuscany, in Ponte a Egola, where another crucial leather district is located.

Expo Riva Schuh, international scope and training STABLE RESULTS THAT MEET THE ORGANISERS’ EXPECTATIONS FOR THE 93rd EDITION OF EXPO RIVA SCHUH AND THE 4th EDITION OF GARDABAGS, AT RIVA DEL GARDA FROM JANUARY 11th TO 14th, IN THE SPIRIT OF INTERNATIONALISATION AND TRAINING The four days of Expo Riva Schuh returned to animate the lively meeting between firms from the main production hubs worldwide and buyers coming from around one hundred different countries.

A trait that reinforced the international orientation of the event, which saw the participation of around twenty collectives, associations and groups of exporters coming from countries of strategic importance for the sector, like Italy, China, India, Brazil, Turkey, Portugal, Great Britain, Bulgaria, Spain, Hong Kong and Pakistan. In terms of visitors, instead, potential business opportunities were reinforced thanks to the presence of delegations of buyers from Peru, Columbia, Romania, Croatia, Poland, Sweden, Russia, the Ukraine and Kazakhstan, organised both by the Italian Trade Agency and MAECI-the Ministry for Foreign Affairs and the Expo Riva Schuh and Gardabags Study Centre, demonstrating a strong interest in the Riva del Garda marketplace and its broad exhibition range.

The Expo Riva Schuh selection saw the participation of 1,310 exhibitors, of which 1,044 were foreign, and another 78 companies present at Gardabags, of which 42 were from abroad. The level of fidelity was extremely high, with 95% of exhibiting companies reconfirming their presence, as a tangible sign of these companies’ satisfaction.

Brand new to this 93 rd edition and especially appreciated by the fair’s operators was the rich training programme proposed in Hangar D, which was dedicated to themes that ranged from sustainability in the leather fashion supply chain system to trends in fashion, and innovation and creativity.

Nella selezione di Expo Riva Schuh hanno esposto 1.310 aziende di cui 1.044 straniere, e altre 78, di cui 42 estere, a Gardabags. Altissimo il grado di fidelizzazione alla manifestazione, con il 95% degli espositori che riconfermano la loro presenza di edizione in edizione: segnale tangibile della soddisfazione delle aziende.

Novità di questa 93.ma edizione, particolarmente apprezzata dagli operatori della fiera, è stato il ricco programma formativo proposto presso l’hangar D e articolato su temi che sono spaziati dalla sostenibilità della filiera del sistema moda pelle, alle tendenze moda, innovazione e creatività.

This is an important step, which takes place after 15 years of being managed by Giovanni Laezza, a person whom I respect greatly for his professional skills and human qualities.”

Alessandra Albarelli has been an integral part of the organisational structure of the Garda-based company for ten years, and is manager of the Congress and Incoming Area.

ALESSANDRA ALBARELLI Since 2107, she has been the CEO of REbuild S.r.l., a group company that deals with communication and events dedicated to innovation and sustainability in the building industry. She is also President of Federcongressi&Eventi, the Italian association for the meeting industry that brings together over 300 companies in the sector. Her position was reconfirmed in 2019, so she will continue her commitment for another three years.

In the past, Alessandra Albarelli, as owner of a business in the hospitality industry, was founder of the Verona “Tuttintorno” Tourist Promotion Consortium, of which she was Director for many years, before starting the collaboration with Riva del Garda Fierecongressi SpA. She has had many experiences as a public administrator and has sat on the boards of public and private companies.

QUANDO LA MANOVIA È COME UN ABITO SU MISURA! Un nuovo sistema di movimentazione interna per i calzaturifici: dinamico, adattabile a diversi modelli, costruito con materiali moderni che riducono il rischio di danneggiamento del prodotto durante le fasi di produzione Cinque anni fa TRC rivoluziona la manovia. La nuova generazione messa a punto dall’azienda di Stra si basa su un concetto di dinamicità, flessibilità e materiali innovativi tale da far sì che non siano più i prodotti a doversi adattare al tipo di manovia, magari la stessa da decenni, ma che sia la manovia ad adattarsi ai prodotti.

INNOVAZIONE In passato movimentare tipologie di scarpe diverse fra loro (calzature basse e poi stivali, per esempio), senza un supporto specifico per ognuna, poteva portare a posizionare il prodotto in modo non consono, con il rischio di rovinarlo.

Oggi, grazie al sistema ‘Dynamic’ di TRC, non esistono più vincoli e la gestione di diverse tipologie di scarpe è resa semplice e veloce.

L’idea è partire dal semplice telaio esterno del carrello da attrezzare secondo le più diverse esigenze e sul quale posizionare tutti gli elementi di supporto e scorrimento necessari. È possibile scegliere l’altezza ideale (variabile in qualsiasi momento in pochi passi) e tra più di 25 varietà di accessori.

I VANTAGGI DEL SISTEMA Se un cliente passa dal produrre scarpe basse ai tronchetti o agli stivali, il calzaturificio non si troverà nella condizione di dovere adattare in qualche modo il prodotto alla manovia che possiede, poiché gli basterà cambiare gli accessori della manovia stessa, in modo semplice e veloce, e ottenere così una linea di produzione sempre adeguata, perfetta ed efficiente.

Il produttore, quindi, non deve più pensare, studiare e scegliere una manovia ipotizzando i mille tipi di lavorazione che potrebbero richiedergli in futuro, perché in qualunque momento sarà in grado di cambiarla completamente.

CARATTERISTICHE PRINCIPALI Tutti i materiali utilizzati nella costruzione della manovia assicurano elevata qualità. È stato eliminato tutto il ferro e le saldature, optando per materiali moderni come l’alluminio (per le strutture portanti) e PST, ABS, PSA e altri materiali altamente protettivi per i supporti al prodotto, così da evitare qualsiasi possibile graffio o danneggiamento.

The world of DAVOS THOUGHTS AND ACTION OF A COMPANY THAT FIRMLY BELIEVES IN SUSTAINABILITY AS A WEAPON TO SAVE THE PLANET AND SUCCEED ON THE MARKET In the face of the continuous and irreversible process of climate change, in the face of images of devastating fires in many parts of the world, and in front of the famous plastic islands in the oceans, is why with increasingly greater force the public opinion worldwide requests governments and businesses a change of gear. Effettivamente per molte imprese interpretare un nuovo modello di sviluppo, in un mercato mondiale già difficile e dispendioso, può sembrare una cosa molto complicata. Purtroppo, dalla grande crisi internazionale, molte aziende sono uscite con le ossa rotte, e questa argomentazione della sostenibilità, spesso e volentieri è vista come un aggravio di costi anziché come un’opportunità di crescita. Di fatto non è e non deve essere così: sulla sostenibilità si gioca il nuovo modello di sviluppo del mondo intero, e non è possibile rimanere al palo: si tratta a tutti gli effetti di un’ancora alla quale aggrapparsi per salvare il salvabile di un pianeta al collasso, e contemporaneamente il motore per una crescita felice e prospera.

Davos, azienda del Nordest italiano, come altre imprese della medesima zona, ha alle spalle una tradizione parsimoniosa e molto attenta al rispetto dei vincoli ambientali, facendo un uso sempre molto accorto delle risorse a disposizione. L’attenzione per l’ambiente in Davos significa soprattutto tecnologia, criterio fondamentale nella costruzione del nuovo stabilimento. Dal 2007, l'unità produttiva e Direzionale di Cavaso del Tomba, è inserita in perfetta sintonia in un contesto naturale-ambientale di prim’ordine, e Davos si fa partecipe e partner attivo della tutela ambientale e paesaggistica. Un esempio di sistemi produttivi altamente innovativi è fornito dalle novità presenti nel settore Lastre-Thunit, soprattutto pensando al basso impatto ambientale: già da quasi 15 anni è operativo il nuovo sistema di verniciatura ad acqua (non a solvente), dotato di dosaggi computerizzati e ricircolo delle acque di raffreddamento.

MIRAGE GREEN guarantees the same high quality standards as any Davos sole, keeping the physical-mechanical characteristics unchanged and IPAH values unchanged, which are decisive when complying with the Reach, Cads and California Convention parameters.

Furthermore, considering also the other, technical and sports, production areas concerning Free Climbing, Trekking Bands, Grips and Printed soles, Davos is already presenting GREEN products made with the recycling of production waste. In this regard, the company organises a circular collection chain, in synergy with its customers, for the recovery and reuse of their processing waste. A process still in the experimental phase, and not without its difficulties since it requires a qualitative leap in the management of processing waste in line with the design of the new model of global sustainable development.

The fact that the fashion system industry is, after the oil industry, among the most polluting in the world is the basic awareness from which Davos starts for its path towards sustainability. It is therefore a challenge that requires concrete answers in terms of recycling and reuse of materials.

But when can a shoe be considered truly sustainable? To get a comprehensive response, one must necessarily start from the materials used. In fact, shoes

are not only made of leather and, therefore, it becomes essential that all manufacturers of materials, components and accessories involved in a shoe follow the same path. Until yesterday it was said: “If we recovered all the thunit soles of used shoes, it would be possible to re-insert them in the production cycle”.

Today, we can safely say that the Davos sole does not affect, but rather guarantee and contribute to a correct footwear recyclability.

Sustainability is a plus that is necessarily associated with excellence. Davos therefore becomes synonymous with sustainability and a guarantee of excellence and value, and is absolutely ready to continue improving collaboration with the brands that actually control the market thus promoting a virtuous circle to the advantage of the whole system.

An essential condition of this process is the growth of a high awareness in the choices related to environmental issues. A questo proposito è importante sottolineare come – all’interno del processo di rinnovamento attuato dalla Davos nell’ultimo decennio, cioè la realizzazione di Lastre Eco-Compatibili - i prodotti vengano realizzati mirando alla salvaguardia dell'ambiente tramite limitazione o eliminazione di fattori nocivi e conseguenze nocive per l’ambiente. L'eco-compatibilità si attua, inoltre, con mescole ottenute unicamente attraverso sostanze esenti da qualsiasi nocività e non pericolose, secondo le legislazioni restrittive vigenti in materia (Reach, Convenzione della California, CADS).

Infine, è doveroso ricordare che ogni prodotto DAVOS è potenzialmente riciclabile e riutilizzabile e, non presentando componenti di origine animale, è adatto alla produzione di suole per la nicchia di calzature vegane. Nonostante risulti pressoché impossibile per Davos recuperare tutti i ritagli di produzione delle lastre vendute, così come le suole (realizzate in thunit) applicate a scarpe usate e quasi consunte, Davos percorre la strada del riciclo presentando il nuovo MIRAGE GREEN: una linea recycling caratterizzata da una percentuale di riciclo intorno al 50%, ottenuta grazie a un’attenta organizzazione di raccolta degli sfridi generati dalle varie fasi produttive interne. Su questa base GREEN possono essere applicati vari tipi verniciatura, sia opaca che superlucida (su quest’ultima si noteranno alcune puntinature, che visto l’argomento del riciclo diventano sicuramente un plus).

MIRAGE GREEN garantisce i medesimi standard qualitativi elevati di una qualsiasi suola Davos, mantenendo inalterate le caratteristiche fisico meccaniche e invariati i valori IPAH, determinanti in sede di rispetto dei parametri Reach, Cads e della Convenzione della California.

Inoltre, considerando anche gli altri ambiti produttivi, tecnici e sportivi, riguardanti il Free Climbing, fascioni per il Trekking, Grip e suole stampate, Davos sta già presentando prodotti GREEN realizzati con il riciclo degli scarti produttivi. A questo proposito l’azienda organizza una filiera di raccolta circolare, in sinergia con i propri clienti, per il recupero e il riutilizzo dei loro scarti di lavorazione. Un processo ancora in fase sperimentale, e non privo di difficoltà poiché richiede un salto di qualità nella gestione degli scarti di lavorazione in sintonia con il disegno del nuovo modello di sviluppo sostenibile mondiale.

Il fatto che l’industria del sistema moda sia, dopo quella petrolifera, tra le più inquinanti al mondo è la consapevolezza di base da cui Davos parte per il suo percorso verso la sostenibilità. Si tratta perciò di una sfida che richiede risposte concrete in termini di riciclo e riuso dei materiali.

Ma quando una calzatura può dirsi veramente sostenibile? Per avere una risposta esauriente, si deve per forza partire dai materiali impiegati. Di fatto le scarpe non sono fatte di sola pelle e, perciò, diventa imprescindibile che tutti i produttori di materiali, componenti e accessori coinvolti in una scarpa, seguano la medesima via. Fino a ieri si diceva: “Se potessimo recuperare tutte le suole in thunit delle scarpe usate, sarebbe possibile re-inserirle nel ciclo produttivo”.

Oggi, possiamo tranquillamente affermare che la suola Davos non pregiudica, anzi garantisce e contribuisce a una corretta riciclabilità delle calzature.

La sostenibilità è un plus che va per forza associato all’eccellenza. Davos diventa pertanto sinonimo di sostenibilità e garanzia di eccellenza e di valore, ed è assolutamente pronta a continuare a migliorare la collaborazione con i brand che di fatto controllano il mercato e favorire, così, un circolo virtuoso a vantaggio di tutto il sistema.

Fashion is, in fact, one of the sectors that most uses our planet’s natural and human resources and, for this reason, it increasingly needs a renewal in raw materials and production processes. The topic is complex since sustainability concerns many production aspects, many components of finished goods and not just materials for uppers and soles, as we tend to think. Shoes and bags are, in fact, difficult to dispose of at the end of their life cycle and, for this reason, greater attention must be paid to the design of these products, trying to integrate sustainable materials within the entire production process.

Centro Accessori S.p.A., a company located in the Marche region that has been engaging for 40 years in the supply of materials and accessories for footwear and leather goods, wants to inspire its partners and demonstrate that fashion can be sustainable when it comes to raw materials and finished products and that it can be at the centre of a circular economy with reduced environmental impact. The company is at the forefront in this market segment and has developed the first and most complete collection of eco-sustainable materials in the sector: its Research and Development office has, in fact, been engaged for over a year in the creation of components, processes and innovative accessories, which are able to meet the needs of those who want to produce leather goods and footwear following the requirements of sustainability. Furthermore, the collaboration with international start-ups allows the company to explore and develop new creative sustainable opportunities for the fashion industry.

The “Conscious Collection” presented during the Lineapelle AW20-21 edition is the result of this work and provides the company’s partners with a wide range of articles that respect the main sustainability issues: Recycling and Recyclability, Biodegradability, Biological Standards. With this collection, Centro Accessori supports the 17 Sustainable Development Goals established by the UN and to be completed by 2030. The range of items available is very wide and includes: reinforcement material, fabrics for strobel processing, upholstery, ecological adhesives, zippers, elastic ribbons, laces, natural products for leather finishing, packaging materials, ribbons, trimmings, piping, non-slip fabrics. These articles are available in biodegradable, recycled or organic/natural versions.

The materials offered as an alternative to synthetic fabrics and leather are, however, the real flagship of the “Conscious Collection”: fabrics and nets from entirely recycled yarns, fabrics based on natural fibers from organic farming, 100% biodegradable fabrics, synthetics based on bamboo, cactus, apple, recycled leather and leaves, usable as leather substitutes for bags, uppers and shoe linings. L’argomento è complesso poiché la sostenibilità riguarda molti aspetti della produzione, molte componenti dei prodotti finiti, non solo i materiali per tomaia e suole, come si tende a pensare. Calzature e borse sono, infatti, difficili da smaltire alla fine del loro ciclo di vita e, per questo motivo, si deve prestare maggiore attenzione alla progettazione di questi prodotti, cercando di integrare materiali sostenibili all’interno di tutto il processo produttivo.

Automation equals flexibility: automation is at a turning point in the panorama of footwear production. It is crucial and essential to face the challenges set by new and changing consumer desires: extreme customisation with consequent drastic reduction in lots, cost containment, the need to reduce the ecological footprint are at the centre of this real revolution.

DESMA, with its solutions, offers excellent answers to all these questions.

Starting from its direct injection systems of the soles (in polyurethane, rubber, thermoplastic polyurethane or other synthetics) on the upper. Modular machines which, thanks to a wide variety of options, allow to obtain a high level of automation without neglecting customisation.

In line, however, with an increasingly radical idea of customisation, DESMA has developed the MSI (Multi Section Injection) technology: injections of material in various sections of the sole determine different properties, for optimal comfort, energy absorption and stability.

Finally, DESMA also responds to production efficiency needs through increasingly robotic and automated solutions that allow you to keep a high production level (both in terms of quality and numbers), reduce waste and keep costs down, as well as promoting an ever lighter environmental impact, thanks to the saving of materials and resources.

Automazione uguale flessibilità: nel panorama della produzione calzaturiera l’automazione è a un punto di svolta. Risulta fondamentale e imprescindibile per affrontare le sfide lanciate dai nuovi e mutevoli desideri dei consumatori: personalizzazione estrema, con conseguente riduzione drastica dei lotti, contenimento dei costi, necessità di ridurre l’impronta ecologica, sono al centro di questa vera e propria rivoluzione.

DESMA, con le sue soluzioni, offre ottime risposte a tutte queste domande. A partire dai suoi sistemi di iniezione diretta delle suole (in poliuretano, gomma, poliuretano termoplastico o altri sintetici) sulla tomaia. Inspiramais between innovation and sustainability THIS 20TH EDITION OF THE BRAZILIAN EXHIBITION HAD NUMBERS THAT REFLECTED THE EXCITING MEETING OF FASHION, ECO-AWARENESS AND BUSINESS Consumer behaviours, the newest trends, and fast-paced business were at the heart of the latest Inspiramais, that took place January 14 th and 15 th in São Paulo, Brazil. Visited by 7,800 industry professionals, the most important Latin America's design and materials innovation fair included the participation of 16 tanneries and great commercial relationships, industry knowledge and different views on the future of consumption, fashion and society in general, as well as new concepts in footwear, accessories, clothing, and interior design.

Inspiramais is carried out by the Centre for the Brazilian Tanning Industry (CICB), the Brazilian Association of Companies of Components for Leather, Footwear, and Artifacts (Assintecal), Abit, Tex Brasil, By Brasil Components and Chemicals, and the Brazilian Leather project, a partnership between the CICB and the Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency (Apex-Brasil) to encourage leather exports.

Key points of the two busy days were the appreciation of experience and heritage, prioritizing sustainable practices and giving ample space to the finest quality. These trends are already underway in the fashion industry and present several opportunities for leather - a material with attributes such as unlimited possibility for creation, excellent resistance and natural sustainability.

Among the six special project exhibits was the Leather Preview, presenting the anticipation of upcoming trends with the theme “Free Spirit” setting the tone.

There were over 60 unique articles involved, including prototypes of shoes and accessories made out of different leathers from 16 Brazilian tanneries

by Arezzo & Co. As Marnei Carminatti, the project's designer and consultant explains: “The Leather Preview 2021_II is inspired by the theme Free Spirit, which is a reflection on the moment of (r)evolution we are currently witnessing.

This moment has a creative feeling very similar to that of the 1970s, a decade marked by counterculture and the strength of street style. We understand that there's an ongoing reorganization of thinking and fashion that's consistent with new values: sustainability, transparency, and traceability, all of which are important topics for new consumers. Thus we're seeking natural finishes, using the smallest number of processes on leather and explore textures, prints, and engravings that enhance its classic, elegant aspects. On the other hand, botany and flora were also an important element of inspiration for creating new textures and prints over leather”.

The upcoming edition of Inspiramais will be held on July 7th and 8th 2020.

Tra le sei mostre speciali del progetto citiamo la Leather Preview, che ha presentato l’anticipazione delle prossime tendenze, col tema “Spirito Libero” a dare il passo. Their professionalism has allowed history to repeat itself. In fact, when the world market and the global challenges of footwear have increasingly shifted their focus on sustainability and recycling of exhausted products in recent years, once again Elachem S.p.A. and Epaflex Polyurethanes S.p.A. were well prepared!

From the beginning of 2020, two-component "BIO" polyurethane products with green percentages greater than 60% and TPU granules with percentages greater than 50% are already available, all suitable for safety shoes, casual/sober styles and in the most fashionable shoes.

These new developments have been made possible by a team of experts who, thanks to the synergy with the polyester synthesis team of the largest and technologically advanced production in Europe, like the Elachem S.p.A. and Epaflex Polyurethanes S.p.A. one.

The new line of sustainable products is already appreciated on the market and the two companies pledge more news to be announced on their social networks.

MICROLINE SERIES A special sustainable lining made with recycled polyester and polyurethane, which can also be self-adhesive, thermo-adesive, coupled with waterproof membrane or with foam.

Microline is the ideal solution for footwear because it guarantees hygiene and comfort to the foot: the lining boasts a soft, full and pleasant texture, thanks to the perfect union between the support made of recycled textile microfibrevand polyurethane, which ensure 100% of breathability, excellent absorbency and a totally ecological approach. Its high technical features given by extraordinary water vapour permeability, differentiate this lining from others on the market and make Microline a unique product.

Thanks to the new processing techniques and to the types of resins used for the production, the Microline lining is the right answer to the growing vegan needs, being the substitute par excellence for animal leather and complying with all REACH regulations.

Microline features a pig, goat and calf effect.

HOTMELT EXTRUSION A new indoor coating technique that reduces production times, costs and waste. It consists in the dry application of the product, without the aid of resins or drying ovens, avoiding the dispersion of vapours into the environment and significantly reducing the consumption derived from obsolete gas machinery. Especially considering that the machines of the Serafini plant operate with self-produced electricity, thanks to the solar panels installed on the roofs (a system that allows you to obtain about 270KW of power per day, making the whole structure almost totally independent for the electric part).

RECOVERY OF PRODUCTION WASTE It all started with regenerated cotton, recovered from old clothes: once milled, re-woven, spun and re-woven, Serafini managed to obtain a good fibre, which is used for the line of ecological reinforcements, already consolidated on the market.

The idea of using alternative fibres derived from the waste of non-GMO or non-intensive crops, such as hemp, bamboo or agave, came about accordingly. For example, considering agave - an officinal plant also used for the preparation of tequila - the liquor production waste is reused and reintroduced into the production cycle so as to make Agavina, a non-woven fabric completely obtained from organic agave fibres.

The company’s goal is to replace the entire production of polyester fibres with fibres obtained from organic waste.

PET RECYCLING The development of an eco system to give new life to the waste of daily use normal plastic, through the study of yarns deriving from the PET chain, is recent. These are special textures, with GRS (Global Recycled Standard) certification, made of recycled polyester or cotton.

LINEA MICROLINE Una speciale fodera sostenibile a base di poliestere riciclato e poliuretano, realizzata anche in formula autoadesiva, termoadesiva, accoppiata con membrana waterproof o con espanso.

Microline è la soluzione ideale per le calzature poiché garantisce igiene e comfort al piede: la fodera vanta una mano morbida, piena e piacevole al tatto, grazie alla perfetta unione tra il supporto in microfibra tessile riciclato e il poliuretano, che insieme assicurano il 100% di traspirabilità, un’ottima assorbenza e un approccio totalmente ecologico. Le elevate caratteristiche tecniche date da un’altissima permeabilità al vapore acqueo, differenziano questa fodera dalle altre sul mercato e rendono la linea Microline un prodotto unico.

Grazie alle nuove tecniche adottate durante il processo produttivo e ai tipi di resine utilizzate per la produzione, la fodera Microline è la giusta risposta alle crescenti esigenze vegane. È, infatti, un eccellente sostituto della pelle animale, conforme a tutte le normative REACH. Microline presenta un effetto pelle simil-maialino, capra e vitello.

ESTRUSIONE HOTMELT Una nuova tecnica di spalmatura indoor che abbatte tempi, costi e scarti di produzione. Consiste nell’applicazione a secco del prodotto, senza l’ausilio di resine o forni di essicatura, evitando la dispersione di vapori nell’ambiente e riducendo sensibilmente i consumi derivati da obsoleti modelli a gas. Soprattutto in considerazione del fatto che le macchine dell’impianto Serafini funzionano con elettricità auto-prodotta, grazie ai pannelli solari installati sui tetti (un sistema che permette di ricavare circa 270KW di potenza al giorno, rendendo tutta la struttura quasi totalmente indipendente per la parte elettrica).

RECUPERO DEGLI SCARTI DI PRODUZIONE Tutto ha avuto inizio con il cotone rigenerato, recuperato dagli abiti smessi: una volta macinati, ri-cardati, filati e ri-tessuti, Serafini è riuscito ad ottenere una buona fibra, che viene adoperata per la linea dei rinforzi ecologici, già consolidata sul mercato.

L’idea di utilizzare fibre alternative derivate dagli scarti di coltivazioni tassativamente non OGM o intensive, come canapa, bambù o agave, è venuta di conseguenza. Per esempio, dell’agave - pianta officinale utilizzata anche per la preparazione della tequila - vengono riutilizzati e re-immessi nel ciclo produttivo gli scarti di produzione del liquore così da realizzare l’Agavina, un tessuto non tessuto completamente ricavato dalle fibre organiche dell’agave.

Obiettivo dell’azienda è sostituire l’intera produzione di fibre in poliestere con fibre ottenute da scarti organici.

Naturella is still the talk of the town THE SUCCESS OF THE INNOVATIVE SUSTAINABLE TANNING PROCESS PATENTED BY SANTORI PELLAMI DOES NOT STOP We live in an era where the key to corporate success does not only mean presenting a good product on the market, but also of finding workable solutions to environmental challenges. It means taking into account the responsibility to contribute to overcoming problems related to the environment and society.

For a tannery, this means reducing the environmental impact of its production processes: the high consumption of water, use of harmful chemicals and even the most classic emissions into the air.

Starting from these problems, Sara Santori – owner and CEO of Conceria Nuvolari, an innovative company specialising in the production of sheep and SARA SANTORI goat leather, and co-owner of the family-run company Santori Pellami – has studied, researched and patented innovative solutions that have led to a real paradigm shift in the tanning world, as she explains, “I have taken these issues very much to heart and, after 8 years of experimentation, as a company, we have succeeded in developing an innovative tanning process that significantly reduces water consumption, does not use chrome, and minimizes the use of toxic or allergenic heavy metals such as cadmium, cobalt, nickel and lead. A system that at the same ensures a leather with physical characteristics and durability equal to those of traditional leather.”

Naturella is the name of the tanning process, and it is synonymous with high quality and biodegradable leather (up to 77% compared to 13% for traditionally tanned leather).

A patent that has resonated well with the sector and has allowed the Marchebased tannery to enter the ZDHC programme, to collaborate permanently with the Politecnico Institute of Milan, and to participate in the measures of the “Horizon 2020” European framework programme for research and innovation, presenting a zero km business model for the production of Naturella both in Italy and in other European countries.

An innovative process that Santori will continue to improve, as Sara Santori declared at the Bocconi workshop in Milan during the ‘Salone della CSR e dell’Innovazione Sociale’: “The study conducted by the Politecnico Institute of Milan has confirmed the sustainability of the tanning process used in the production of Naturella leather, so we will continue to refine the process and to continue along the same path of sustainability with Conceria Nuvolari, especially with a view to achieving customer satisfaction.”

Naturella fa ancora parlare di sé NON SI FERMA IL SUCCESSO RISCOSSO DELL’INNOVATIVO PROCESSO DI CONCIA SOSTENIBILE BREVETTATO DA SANTORI PELLAMI Viviamo un’epoca in cui per un’azienda raggiungere il successo non significa solo presentare sul mercato un buon prodotto, ma anche tener conto della sfida ambientale. Significa considerare la responsabilità di contribuire al superamento delle problematiche legate ad ambiente e società.

Per una conceria, questo significa ridimensionare l’impatto ambientale dei suoi processi produttivi: gli alti consumi d’acqua, l’impiego di sostanze chimiche nocive e fino alle più classiche emissioni in aria.

A partire da queste problematiche Sara Santori - titolare e CEO di Conceria Nuvolari, azienda innovativa nel segmento ovocaprini, e comproprietaria dell’azienda di famiglia Santori Pellami - ha studiato, ricercato e infine brevettato soluzioni innovative che portassero a un concreto cambio di paradigma nel mondo della concia, come lei stessa spiega: “Ho preso molto a cuore queste tematiche e, dopo 8 anni di sperimentazione, siamo riusciti a mettere a punto un innovativo processo di concia che riduce sensibilmente il consumo d’acqua, non prevede l’utilizzo di cromo e riduce al minimo l’impiego di metalli pesanti tossici o allergenici quali cadmio, cobalto, nichel e piombo. Un sistema che al contempo assicura un pellame dalle caratteristiche fisiche e di durata pari a quelle di un pellame tradizionale”. Naturella, questo il nome del processo di concia, è quindi sinonimo di pelli di alta qualità e biodegradabili (fino al 77%, quando un pellame conciato in modo tradizionale raggiunge al massimo il 13%).

Un brevetto che ha avuto grande risonanza nel settore e ha portato la conceria marchigiana ad aderire al programma ZDHC, a collaborare stabilmente con il Politecnico di Milano, a partecipare alle misure del programma quadro europeo per la ricerca e l’innovazione “Horizon 2020”, finalizzato a considerare un modello di business che consenta la produzione dell’articolo Naturella a chilometro zero sia in Italia che in altri Paesi europei.

Un processo innovativo che Santori continuerà a migliorare, come ha dichiarato Sara Santori durante il workshop in Bocconi a Milano durante il ‘Salone della CSR e dell’innovazione sociale’: “Lo studio condotto dal Politecnico di Milano ha confermato la sostenibilità del processo conciario impiegato nella produzione della pelle Naturella, perciò continueremo a perfezionare il processo e a sviluppare lo stesso percorso di sostenibilità anche con Conceria Nuvolari, soprattutto in considerazione della soddisfazione dei clienti”.

L’iconica azienda americana ha emesso il suo verdetto: il 2020 sarà l’anno del Classic Blue. Il numero 19-4052, per la precisione. Immaginatevi il blu profondo del cielo al crepuscolo, una sfumatura che infonde calma e sicurezza, queste le parole di Leatrice Eiseman, direttrice esecutiva del Pantone Color Institute: “E’ un blu sconfinato che ci incoraggia a guardare oltre l’ovvio per espandere il nostro pensiero, sfidandoci a pensare più profondamente, espandere la nostra prospettiva e aprire i flussi di comunicazione”. A sorpresa, Pantone ha scelto di caratterizzare il colore dell'anno anche con esperienze sensoriali: il blu assume una consistenza vellutata e ha lo stesso odore primitivo e salato dell'oceano.

Simbolo di armonia ed affidabilità, secondo la psicologia del colore il blu ha la facoltà di rilassare portando equilibrio alla sfera emotiva (ad esempio, una stanza blu i battiti cardiaci diminuiscono e la sensibilità al freddo aumenta).

Il blu è di gran lunga la scelta più popolare quando si tratta di marchi, apparendo in oltre la metà di tutti i loghi. Il colore dell’anno 2020 è quindi un riferimento importante per scegliere il lavaggio di denim perfetto o per i pezzi chiave di streetstyle, ma anche la nuance su cui puntare per le occasioni più importanti.

Interessante notare come il Classic Blue richiami alla mente il primo Color of the Year di Pantone. Vent’anni fa, infatti, il colore prescelto fu Cerulean, una tonalità di blu chiaro altrettanto rassicurante.

Unexpectedly, Pantone chose to characterize the colour of the year also with sensory experiences: so blue takes on a velvety texture and has the same primitive and salty scent of the ocean.

Symbol of harmony and reliability, according to the psychology of colour, blue has the power to make you relax, bringing balance to the emotional sphere (for example, in a blue room the heart rate decreases and sensitivity to cold increases).

Blue is by far the most popular choice when it comes to brands, appearing in over half of all logos. The color of the year 2020 is therefore an important reference for choosing the perfect denim wash or for the key pieces of streetstyle, but also the shade to bet on for the most important occasions.

Interestingly, Classic Blue brings to mind Pantone's first Color of the Year. Twenty years ago, in fact, the chosen color was Cerulean, a light blue shade just as reassuring.

FUTURMODA does prepare its 43rd edition AN INTERNATIONAL EVENT OFFERING THE WHOLE RANGE FOR BOTH FOOTWEAR AND LEATHERGOODS INDUSTRIES: ACCESSORIES, COMPONENTS AND CHEMICALS AND LEATHERS This is today FuturModa who has started to prepare its 43rd edition taking place from March 11th to 13th 2020, showing the collections for the SS 2021.

In the latest five years, FuturModa has never stopped its growth, going over every expectation and reaching a total exhibiting space of 13.150 mts, the top limit of the Hall 2 of I.F.A. – Institucion Ferial Alicantina, where the event does take place.

The next edition will see the participation of more than 270 companies, representing more than 400 brands of Tanneries (30%), soles, forms and heels (21%), ornamental materials and other components (22%) synthetics and tissues (19%) chemical products (6%) press, schools and other services (2%), The Spanish exhibitors will be the top presence, but the event will see among its participants also exhibitors coming from Italy (20%), Portugal, France, Germany and India.

How to achieve a high level of optimization ZAGO IS ABLE TO RESPOND TO THE TWO BIGGEST CHALLENGES OF SAVING THAT A FOOTWEAR MANUFACTURER MUST FACE BEFORE THE START-UP OF A NEW PRODUCTION: START-UP TIME AND COSTS Achieving a high level of optimization when starting production is a considerable challenge. Testing, in one word. Through Zago Moulds Solutions testing, optimization can raise up to over 90%, while usually starting production without testing might be leap of faith.

Thanks to the partnership with some of the best machinery manufacturers, Zago now has mould holders and auxiliary components which provide an optimal start-up for a production. With the uppers the customer supplies them, BASF polyurethane and REPI dyes, Zago carefully checks: flow thickness, bubbles, flashes and the final aesthetics. And only then, they deliver the tested moulds. At this point, the client may start the production with at least 95% optimization level, but it may be even higher.

Nel proprio stabilimento Zago utilizza una delle più performanti macchine a iniezione diretta PU, in grado di fornire, quindi, la garanzia concreta del risultato. Un risultato collaudato ancora prima che lo stampo entri in produzione.

A questo punto entra in gioco il produttore di calzature. Con cui Zago, pur facendo un diverso mestiere, condivide lo stesso ambizioso obiettivo: offrire al cliente finale, l’acquirente delle scarpe, una camminata sana, sicura e confortevole.

Grazie agli stampi di iniezione PU collaudati nelle duplici applicazioni il cliente di Zago potrà concretamente e sensibilmente abbattere i tempi di avvio della produzione. Nello specifico, unicamente gli stampi Zago sono collaudati per le tecnologie di impianti: • PU FOOTWEAR – Desma, Stemma, MainGroup • PU BOOT – Desma, Gusbi, MainGroup Il collaudo stampi (o PU injection-test) richiede un’elevata specializzazione, frutto di esperienze, ricerca, studio e tentativi. Nel nuovo Reparto Produzione e con la più performante tecnologia presente oggi sul mercato degli stampi, Zago mette le basi per la prossima start-up dei propri clienti a costi competitivi e in tempi adeguati.

Grazie a una macchina ad iniezione PU/PU di ultima generazione, l’azienda padovana esegue una vera e propria iniezione e riesce ad offrire non solo il collaudo dello stampo prototipo ma anche lo sviluppo delle taglie di serie. Con le tomaie che fornite dal cliente, poliuretano BASF e coloranti REPI, verifichi accuratamente: spessori flusso, bolle, bave, estetica finale. E solo dopo, consegna gli stampi, collaudati e pronti a un livello pari o superiore al 95% per l’avvio della produzione.

X Machine: Santoni’s crown jewel for knitted uppers THE INNOVATIVE 3D INTARSIA TECHNOLOGY APPLIED TO SANTONI'S X MACHINE ALLOWS EXTREME FLEXIBILITY IN DESIGN, UNLIMITED COMBINATIONS OF MODELS AND COLOURS AND, LAST BUT NOT LEAST, RECORD PRODUCTION TIMES The Santoni company, now part of the Lonati group, was founded in 1919 and is by far the first Italian company to produce machines for socks. It’s long experience in the field has allowed it, over the years, to offer circular knitting machines that apply seamless technology even to the world of footwear.

With Patrick Silva, Santoni’s marketing manager, we talk about the X Machine which will be presented at Simac in February 2020.

What are the main advantages of circular technology for the production of knitted uppers?

“The advantage of circular technology has always been productivity. Not only because of the speed of the machine, but also because the upper exits the machine finished, that is, it does not require any hemming activity. From our calculations we can say that the production of 3D knitted uppers can reduce labour costs by up to 80% compared to the production of uppers with the strobel system. In general we can add that the knitted uppers have extraordinary lightness and breathability characteristics”.

Speaking of the X Machine, what distinguishes it from other machines on the market?

“The X Machine brings together the best of what exists on the market: flexibility and productivity. From this machine, uppers with inserts of performance materials can come out without the need for further processing: for example, we can replace the application of toe caps and heel counters with parts of the upper made with yarns that maintain the shape even without being combined with reinforcements. Another crucial feature is the ability of the machine to directly make the eyelet of the upper without having to apply small metal parts. An excellent solution in particular for the sports world and, above all, for the safety sector which often requires metal-free footwear”.

What about sustainability?

“It is a crucial theme for us, in fact the X MACHINE is perfectly capable of making uppers even with recycled or recyclable yarns. Furthermore, at a time when we so often talk about sustainability, it should also be stressed that this technology eliminates all industrial waste, i.e. production waste due to the cutting process”.

Quali sono i principali vantaggi della tecnologia circolare per la produzione di tomaie in maglia?

“Il vantaggio della tecnologia circolare è da sempre la produttività. Non solo per la velocità della macchina, ma anche perché la tomaia esce dalla macchina finita, cioè non richiede alcuna attività di orlatura. Dai nostri calcoli possiamo affermare che la produzione di tomaie knitted in 3D può arrivare a ridurre i costi di manodopera fino al 80% rispetto alla produzione di tomaie con sistema strobel. In generale possiamo aggiungere che le tomaie in maglia presentano caratteristiche di leggerezza e traspirabilità straordinarie”.

Parlando della X Machine, cosa la distingue dalle altre macchine sul mercato ?

“La X Machine mette insieme il meglio di quello che esiste sul mercato: flessibilità e produttività. Da questa macchina possono uscire tomaie con inserti di materiali prestazionali senza bisogno di ulteriori lavorazioni: per fare un esempio, possiamo sostituire l'applicazione di puntali e contrafforti con parti della tomaia realizzate con filati che mantengono la forma anche senza essere accoppiati a rinforzi. Un’altra cruciale caratteristica è la capacità della macchina di realizzare direttamente l’occhiellatura della tomaia senza dover applicare minuterie metalliche. Un’ottima soluzione in particolare per il mondo sportivo e, soprattutto, per il settore della sicurezza che sovente richiede calzature metal-free”.

In quanto a sostenibilità? “È un tema per noi cruciale, infatti la X MACHINE è perfettamente in grado di realizzare tomaie anche con filati riciclati o riciclabili. Inoltre, in un momento in cui si parla così spesso di sostenibilità, va anche sottolineato che questa tecnologia elimina tutti i rifiuti industriali, cioè gli scarti di produzione dovuti al taglio.”

PRABOS and STEMMA for the new 3 density military shoe LAST JANUARY THE NEW 24-STATIONS DIRECT INJECTION ROTARY MACHINE STEMMA HAS ENTERED INTO PRODUCTION IN THE PRABOS FACTORY IN SLAVICIN (CZECH REPUBLIC) PRABOS, the Czech company specialized in the production of military shoes, supplier of the Czech army and NATO forces, with this unit will start the manufacture of the new line of military shoes, with 3-density sole direct moulded on upper, which was previewed last year.

An ambitious and innovative project that has successfully passed the severe tests of products intended for military use. Objective: to produce footwear of high technical value, typically made by cementing the sole, alternatively using a highly automated process capable of ensuring consistency of quality and a strong reduction in the use of manpower.

Thanks to STEMMA’s PLUS2 technology for direct 3-density molding and a VIBRAM rubber outsole, a combination of 3 materials of different densities has been obtained, for a sole that guarantees high slip resistance, comfort and absolute stability.

This important project consolidates the ten-year collaboration between PRABOS and STEMMA, confirming their vocation for an innovation that blends together tradition and technology.

Un progetto ambizioso e innovativo, che ha superato con successo i severi test dei prodotti destinati agli impeghi militari.

Obbiettivo: produrre calzature di elevato valore tecnico, tipicamente realizzate mediante incollaggio della suola, utilizzando, in alternativa, un processo fortemente automatizzato in grado di garantire costanza degli standard qualitativi e una forte riduzione dell’utilizzo di manodopera.

Grazie alla tecnologia PLUS2 di STEMMA per lo stampaggio diretto a 3 densità e di un battistrada in gomma VIBRAM, è stata ottenuta una combinazione di 3 materiali a diverse densità, per una suola che garantisce elevata resistenza allo scivolamento, confort e assoluta stabilità.

Questo importante progetto consolida la decennale collaborazione fra PRABOS e STEMMA, confermando la loro vocazione ad una innovazione che fonde insieme tradizione e tecnologia.

The technological square towards Industry 4.0 ALL IS READY FOR SIMAC TANNING TECH 2020, THE INTERNATIONAL EXHIBITION OF MACHINES AND TECHNOLOGIES FOR THE FOOTWEAR, LEATHER GOODS AND TANNING INDUSTRIES, SCHEDULED AT FIERA MILANO RHO FROM 19th TO 21st FEBRUARY The centrality of the fair is confirmed by the presence of the most important international players in the sector who will exhibit at the halls 14 and 18 of the fairground, which as always hosts the concomitant Lineapelle fair and more.

As a matter of fact, for the first time, this year the Micam and Mipel footwear and bag fairs are scheduled to take place, together the same day on the 19th.

Returning to the technological offer, the keywords are innovation and sustainability, as recalls Assomac, the trade association that organises the fair, “Purchasing methods and consumers needs change, the whole supply chain changes: technology to support a new way of producing becomes the lever to meet these requirements”. For this reason, Simac Tanning Tech is being set up as a “centre of technological research” oriented towards Industry 4.0 and new organisational methodologies, including the supply chain, where traditional models are re-discussed without sweeping away the past, but treasuring and implementing technologies for the future. “Technologies referred to as “Industry 4.0” are no longer just a European prerogative, but a concept made by the big world producing countries, from South East Asia to South America.

And again: “The same technologies make it possible to adapt production to (not only environmental) sustainability needs defined by international production protocols: every manufacturing sector should, in fact, do its part to meet the sustainability objectives agreed upon in the production chain level. New dates for APLF THE CORONAVIRUS EMERGENCY IMPOSES APLF TO ESTABLISH NEW DATES: THE APPOINTMENT HAS BEEN POSTPONED TO JUNE 1st – 3 rd, 2020 APLF continues to monitor the epidemic outbreak of the Coronavirus and for the safety of its customers and staff, it decides to postpone the event originally scheduled to take place from March 31 to April 2. In line with the efforts of the Hong Kong Department of Health and the WHO to control and limit the spread of the disease, it thus sets new dates for APLF Leather, Materials + and Fashion Access to 1-3 June.

The event will present itself with a completely renewed layout, with the overturning of exhibition spaces: the Leather fair with the largest tanning groups in the world, supported by the main manufacturers of machines and chemical auxiliaries, will in fact move to floor level 3 of the exhibition centre, where it will be able to have a wider exhibition area by expanding existing stands and welcoming new exhibitors. “TRAINING IS THE CONCRETE ANSWER WITH WHICH WE CAN START A RELAUNCH PROCESS OF THE ITALIAN FOOTWEAR AND CONFIRM ITS SUPREMACY IN THE WORLD”, THIS WAY SIRO BADON, PRESIDENT OF ASSOCALZATURIFICI, INTRODUCES A CRUCIAL THEME FOR THE SHOE SECTOR, A FUNDAMENTAL DRIVING FORCE OF THE ITALIAN ECONOMY In political debates today there is much talk of relaunching work in Italy, especially for young people. Solutions do not seem easy to find, although in many sectors, especially in the manufacturing sector, the demand for new talents does not lack.

There would be work, for example, in the footwear sector! But what kind of job and what are the real needs of companies? Thanks to the contribution of the sector’s reference Association and of important companies that deal with components and finished products - we examine: • the situation on the labour market among the companies in the footwear sector • the importance of investing in training • what profiles companies look for and which attitudes they require • training courses to be taken to secure a position THE LABOUR MARKET IN THE FOOTWEAR SECTOR Siro Badon, president of Assocalzaturifici and an important entrepreneur in the footwear sector, introduces the theme: "Footwear companies are going through a very delicate phase, marked by generational turnover, especially related to professional figures employed in the production sector. It is estimated that over the next three and five years, there will be a lack of 48,000 technicians in the entire fashion system.

There are fears that, despite being specialised, schools dealing with our sector will not be able to bridge this important gap, both in terms of numbers and know-how. To learn the trade well, in fact, the academic preparation is not sufficient. Young people who are part of the company need to be supported by experts to deeply understand the various dynamics. This requires a very strong investment, in time and economic resources, which companies often do not have the opportunity to implement".

VILLA FOSCARINI HOSTS THE “MUSEO DELLA CALZATURA ROSSIMODA”, A PERMANENT EXHIBITION OF DESIGNER SHOES VILLA FOSCARINI, CHE OSPITA IL “MUSEO DELLA CALZATURA ROSSIMODA”, UNA MOSTRA PERMANENTE DI CALZATURE D’AUTORE

Helene Zago and Isabella Dibitonto, respectively human resources director and staff research and selection manager of RossiModa, a prestigious Venetian shoe factory, further explain the situation facing the world of footwear production: "The average age in our various production departments (from the cutting to the finishing procedure) is particularly high, which poses the urgent problem of generational turnover. We have been dealing with it for 6 years through our internal school that trains young aspirants with courses lasting 2 or 3 months, transmitting them both technical and theoretical know-how. We do train them alongside senior profiles who can complete their preparation in the field, in particular in the assembly and finishing sectors.

Through the collaboration with the Politecnico Calzaturiero and the Employment Agency Umana, and taking advantage of the FormaTemp formula, we also have activated a training course tailored to our needs (hemming, assembly and quality control) which allows us to work with 10 or 12 boys and girls, providing them afterwards with an internship. On average, one third of them gets finally hired".

ARSUTORIA’s school experience is very similar and its director, Matteo Pasca says: "There are no young hemmers ready to enter the job market, as confirmed by the request of a shoe factory in the Parabiago district that decided to invest in a training course for 8 professional figures. So we set up a hemming laboratory at our headquarters in Milan and started a collaboration between the company (which prefers to remain anonymous) and a temporary agency. The agreement allowed 8 girls (at their first experience or in the process of professional reintegration) to follow a free training course that included frontal lessons and factory experience. The course, co-financed by the FormaTemp fund, led to the full recruitment of all participants».

Finally, it is again Siro Badon to bring up another problem: “Obviously, our sector offers many job opportunities, but it does not seem particularly attractive for new generations. It is therefore necessary to revive it, making it more interesting for both young people and their families by clearly explaining the many and advantageous job opportunities that the sector offers".

C’è lavoro nel settore calzature!

Nell’attuale dibattito politico si parla tanto di rilanciare il lavoro in Italia, soprattutto per i giovani. Le soluzioni non sembrano facili da trovare, nonostante in molti settori, soprattutto del manifatturiero, non manchi la richiesta di nuove leve.

Nel settore calzaturiero, per esempio, di lavoro ce ne sarebbe! Ma quale lavoro e quali sono le reali esigenze delle aziende? In questo articolo - grazie al contributo dell’Associazione di riferimento del comparto e di importanti aziende di componenti e prodotto finito - prendiamo in esame: • la situazione del mercato del lavoro fra le aziende della filiera calzature • l’importanza di investire in formazione • quali profili cercano le aziende e quali attitudini richiedono • i percorsi formativi da intraprendere per assicurarsi una posizione IL MERCATO DEL LAVORO NEL SETTORE CALZATURE È Siro Badon, presidente di Assocalzaturifici e importante imprenditore nel settore delle calzature, a introdurre il tema: «Le aziende calzaturiere stanno attraversando una fase molto delicata, contrassegnata dal ricambio generazionale, soprattutto per quanto riguarda le figure impiegate nella fascia produttiva. Si stima che nell’intero sistema moda, da qui a tre/cinque anni, mancheranno 48.000 tecnici.

Il timore è che, nonostante siano specializzate, le scuole che si occupano del nostro comparto non saranno in grado di colmare questo importante divario, sia in termini numerici che di know-how. Per imparare bene il mestiere, infatti, non basta una preparazione accademica. I giovani, inseriti in azienda, hanno la necessità di essere affiancati dai più esperti per imparare a fondo le varie dinamiche. Ciò richiede un fortissimo investimento, in tempo e risorse economiche, che spesso le imprese non hanno la possibilità di attuare».

Helene Zago e Isabella Dibitonto, rispettivamente direttrice risorse umane e responsabile ricerca e selezione del personale di RossiModa, prestigioso calzaturificio veneto, spiegano ulteriormente la situazione in cui versa il mondo della produzione calzaturiera: "L’età ARSUTORIA SCHOOL LAB media nei nostri vari reparti di produzione (dal taglio al finissaggio) è particolarmente alta, il che pone l’urgente problema del ricambio generazionale. Noi lo stiamo affrontando già da 6 anni attraverso la nostra scuola interna che forma giovani aspiranti con corsi di 2 o 3 mesi, trasmettendo loro un "saper fare" sia tecnico che teorico. Li prepariamo per poi affiancarli a profili senior che possano completare la loro preparazione sul campo, in particolare nei settori montaggio e finissaggio.

Tramite la collaborazione con il Politecnico Calzaturiero e l’agenzia per il lavoro Umana, e sfruttando la formula FormaTemp, abbiamo inoltre attivato un corso di formazione personalizzato sulle nostre esigenze (orlatura, montaggio e controllo qualità) che ci permette di lavorare con 10 o 12 ragazzi a cui poi offriamo uno stage. Un terzo di loro, mediamente, viene infine assunto".

Molto simile l’esperienza di ARSUTORIA school, di cui parla il suo direttore, Matteo Pasca: "Giovani orlatrici pronte da inserire nel mercato del lavoro non ce ne sono, come ci ha confermato la richiesta di un calzaturificio del distretto di Parabiago che ha deciso di investire in un corso di formazione per 8 figure professionali. Così abbiamo allestito, presso la nostra sede milanese, un laboratorio per l’orlatura e avviato una collaborazione tra l’azienda (che preferisce rimanere anonima) e un’agenzia interinale. L’intesa ha permesso a 8 ragazze (alla prima esperienza o in percorso di reinserimento professionale) di seguire gratuitamente un corso di formazione che ha previsto lezioni frontali ed esperienza in fabbrica. Il corso, co-finanziato dal fondo FormaTemp, ha condotto alla piena assunzione di tutte le partecipanti". È ancora Siro Badon, infine, a far emergere un’ulteriore problematica: "Il nostro settore offre molte opportunità di lavoro, è evidente, ma il comparto non risulta particolarmente attrattivo per le nuove generazioni. È pertanto necessario rinverdirlo, donargli nuovo appeal sia verso i giovani che verso le loro famiglie. Spiegare in modo chiaro le tante e vantaggiose opportunità lavorative che il settore offre".

WHY IT IS IMPORTANT TO INVEST IN TRAINING Silvia Paganini, co-owner of the Tacchificio Villa Cortese and president of Confindustria Alto Milanese’s Youth Group explains it well: "As regards the world of footwear components (but the concept, we believe, is valid for the entire supply chain, ed.), the growth of big brands has led to an adaptation of the company structures. Now it is necessary to be well organised, by ever remaining flexible, providing careful attention to products and services.

Through open innovation, the fusion with the entire supply chain and strong investments in research and development, we must place ourselves towards our customers not only as suppliers, but as partners and solution providers with the aim of anticipating their technical and commercial needs. It is clear that for such a complex job, continuous training is necessary both for those who already occupy positions in the world of work and for those who must enter it".

Siro Badon reiterates the concept: "Assocalzaturifici is firmly convinced that investing in training and skills is highly strategic for the future of the sector. It is, in fact, essential to train new professional figures capable of innovating Made in Italy footwear companies by perfectly combining them with our tradition and the standards of excellence that characterise our production".

WHAT PROFILES AND ATTITUDES ARE REQUIRED After listening to all the interlocutors, it seems clear that even though specific technical skills are important, also the so-called soft-skills are valuable for the companies in the footwear supply chain: those attitudes of curiosity, ability to learn and work in a group, in addition to the willingness to make ‘sacrifices’.

"Within our company - explains Silvia Paganini - technical figures are without any doubt our key professionals, the most difficult to find on the market. But, in the growing complexity dictated by the speed of adaptation to new technologies and the fragmentation of orders, technical skills are no longer enough: there is a need for creativity and the ability to work in teams, prerequisites for all innovation processes; there is a need for an attitude towards change, the only constant compared to to the volatility of skills, but also flexibility and curiosity".

For Siro Badon "companies in the sector are looking for motivated, passionate young people who, above all, want to learn".

RossiModa adds: "We are also looking for people without any experience. Motivation is what matters most to us. Specific expertise is provided afterwards. Another important aspect is to perfectly understand the expectations of the candidates (and in this sense employment agencies are fundamental to help us through a first selection) because it is crucial to weigh the real ambitions of young people: they must be calibrated and commensurate with the SIRO BADON needs of the company. I explain why: training these people is a long-term investment, the results of which will be appreciated only after about 3 years. And it will still take some time to have, for example, good pre-assemblers. It is a bet that therefore implies a significant investment in resources, that’s why the initial selection must be particularly accurate".

We also ask RossiModa’s managers about the characteristics that not only a production figure must have, but also a Product Manager: "For us it is a crucial role. Each of our client maisons is followed by a dedicated work group and the various product development offices must interpret the needs of the style offices within the various brands and then engineer the collections. 50% of our product managers come from the market (senior profiles) and the rest from an internal training course in which also all the assistants were involved. A very demanding job, that required 5 years. We selected profiles from the business world (mainly coming from the IUAV in Venice) or from experiences such as IED and Marangoni. People with a university background who did not necessarily have previous footwear knowledge".

PERCHÉ È IMPORTANTE INVESTIRE IN FORMAZIONE Lo spiega bene Silvia Paganini, co-titolare del Tacchificio Villa Cortese e Presidente del Gruppo Giovani di Confindustria Alto Milanese: "Per quanto riguarda il mondo dei componenti della calzatura (ma il concetto, riteniamo, risulta valido per l’intera filiera, n.d.r), la crescita delle grandi griffe ha comportato un adeguamento delle strutture aziendali. Ora è necessario essere ben organizzati, ma sempre flessibili, fornendo un’accurata attenzione a prodotto e servizi. Attraverso l’open innovation, la contaminazione con l’intera filiera e forti investimenti in ricerca e sviluppo, ci si deve porre nei confronti dei nostri clienti non solo come fornitori, ma come partner e solution provider con l’obiettivo di anticipare le loro esigenze tecniche e commerciali. È chiaro che per un lavoro ormai così complesso è necessaria una continua formazione per chi già occupa posizioni nel mondo del lavoro e per chi deve entrarci".

Siro Badon ribadisce il concetto: "Assocalzaturifici è fermamente convinta che investire sulla formazione e sulle competenze sia altamente strategico per il futuro del comparto. È, infatti, fondamentale formare nuove figure professionali in grado di innovare le aziende del calzaturiero Made in Italy e coniugarsi al meglio con la nostra tradizione e gli standard di eccellenza che caratterizzano la nostra produzione".

QUALI PROFILI E ATTITUDINI SONO RICHIESTE Dopo aver ascoltato tutti gli interlocutori pare evidente che, pur contando le competenze tecniche specifiche, abbiano valore, per le aziende della filiera calzature, anche le cosiddette soft-skill: quelle attitudini di curiosità, capacità di apprendimento e di lavorare in gruppo, oltre alla disponibilità al ‘sacrificio’.

"Le professionalità chiave all’interno della nostra azienda - spiega Silvia Paganini - sono senza dubbio quelle tecniche, le più difficili da reperire sul mercato. Ma, nella crescente complessità dettata dalla velocità di adeguamento alle nuove tecnologie e dalla frammentazione delle commesse, le competenze tecniche non bastano più: serve creatività e capacità di lavorare in team, prerequisiti di tutti i processi di innovazione; servono attitudine al cambiamento, unica costante rispetto alla volatilità delle competenze, nonchè flessibilità e curiosità".

Per Siro Badon "le aziende del settore cercano giovani motivati, appassionati e, soprattutto, che abbiano voglia di imparare".

Da RossiModa aggiungono: "Cerchiamo persone anche prive di qualsiasi esperienza.

Ciò che conta di più, per noi, sono le motivazioni. La competenza specifica la forniamo in seguito. Altro aspetto importante è comprendere perfettamente le aspettative dei candidati (e in tal senso le agenzie del lavoro risultano fondamentali per aiutarci SILVIA PAGANINI a operare una prima scrematura) perché è cruciale pesare le reali ambizioni dei ragazzi: devono essere calibrate e commisurate con le esigenze dell’azienda. Spiego perché: la formazione di queste persone è un investimento a lungo termine, di cui apprezziamo i risultati dopo circa 3 anni. E dovrà passare ancora diverso tempo per poter disporre di buoni pre-montatori, per esempio. È una scommessa che implica, quindi, un notevole investimento di risorse, perciò la selezione iniziale deve essere particolarmente accurata".

Sempre alle responsabili di RossiModa chiediamo le caratteristiche che deve avere non solo una figura di produzione, ma anche quella di un Product Manager: "Per noi è un ruolo cruciale. Ogni maison nostra cliente è seguita da un gruppo di lavoro dedicato e i vari uffici di sviluppo prodotto devono interpretare le esigenze degli uffici stile interni ai vari brand per poi ingegnerizzare le collezioni. I nostri product manager provengono per il 50% dal mercato (profili senior) e per il resto da un percorso formativo interno in cui sono stati coinvolti anche tutti gli assistenti. Un lavoro molto impegnativo, che ha richiesto 5

Anche Assocalzaturifici si dice soddisfatta della partnership con l’istituto milanese: "È un bilancio sicuramente positivo quello per i due progetti IFTS 'Tecnico di industrializzazione del prodotto e del processo per il settore calzaturiero lombardo' attivati con ARSUTORIA school. Percorsi che hanno portato a preparare e motivare molto bene gli allievi, inseritisi poi nelle aziende con reciproca soddisfazione. Purtroppo, la formula dell’IFTS presenta due problematiche: è oggetto di bando e finanziamento da parte di Regione Lombardia e, perciò, non consente di dare continuità al percorso. In secondo luogo, i tempi del finanziamento non permettono un’adeguata promozione dell’iniziativa con il rischio di non ricevere sufficienti adesioni".

Da ricordare che Arsutoria non si limita a formare le figure professionali dedicate alla produzione, ma anche quelle che operano in ambito design o manageriale. È al servizio del settore grazie alla formazione finanziata dai fondi interprofessionali ed eroga workshop brevi plasmati sulle esigenze delle aziende: dagli addetti alle vendite al personale degli uffici, risorse umane, ecc.

Oppure con i corsi ad hoc per chi desidera lanciare il proprio marchio di calzature: 4 giorni in cui si impara come affrontare il design delle prime collezioni e come collaborare con le fabbriche. Pensato per chi vuole creare un proprio marchio di calzature, le vuole produrre in Italia o in Europa, e vuole evitare i principali errori causati dalla mancanza di esperienza, per partire in maniera efficiente ed essere competitivo.

E poiché le sneaker, negli ultimi anni, si sono imposte sul mercato delle calzature come uno dei prodotti di riferimento assoluto, capace di influenzare profondamente anche il mondo della moda e visto che, oggi, non vi è marchio di rilievo che non proponga sneaker nelle proprie collezioni, ARSUTORIA school ha deciso di lanciare un nuovissimo corso di 4 settimane per apprendere design, modelleria e prototipia delle sneaker.

Per chi, invece, desidera formarsi come figura professionale a tutto tondo, in grado di entrare preparato nell'industria delle calzature, ARSUTORIA school offre il programma intensivo di un anno. Un approccio molto pratico attraverso cui apprendere ogni aspetto della produzione di scarpe: dal design alla realizzazione di modelli, passando per una vasta gamma di costruzioni tecniche sia per da donna che da uomo, dagli stili casual a quelli eleganti. E approfondire la conoscenza dei materiali, comprendendone le logiche di acquisto.

Il programma offre una duplice visione sul settore della calzatura: innovazione e tradizione. Gli studenti apprendono l’uso di software specifici per la modellazione 2D e 3D: realizzano un prototipo in microfibra progettato con questi strumenti e tagliato con macchinari all’avanguardia.

Sperimentano, così, cosa significa realizzare un campione prima di iniziare la fase di prototipia e produzione. Gli studenti hanno anche l’opportunità di esplorare la propria creatività attraverso lo sviluppo di una collezione, progettando e creando un piano di merchandising, arricchendo così il portfolio base per il proprio marchio di calzature. Dopo aver acquisito competenze tecniche, lavorano a stretto contatto con artigiani italiani, nel laboratorio calzaturiero interno alla scuola, realizzando le proprie paia di scarpe (dalle sneaker alle décolleté, dai sandali alle allacciate).

Parte significativa del programma è dedicata, inoltre, al tutoraggio di startup di marchi: come lavorare con le fabbriche e come approcciarsi alle prime collezioni.

Visite organizzate alle maggiori aziende del settore, showroom e fiere specializzate completano la formazione, per preparare gli studenti ad abbracciare il settore calzaturiero.
