Jordan’s Maiden Five Wicket Haul First Grade Round 7 at Gavenlock Oval Narara-Wyoming 123 and 9/141 declared defeated Wyong 60 and 1/64. Kyle Jordan claimed his maiden five wicket haul in first grade as Narara claimed a first innings win over Wyong at Gavenlock Oval.

Wyong’s top four batsmen fell to Jordan, who finished with figures of 5/16 off 13.4 overs, including three caught and bowleds. Wyong fell to be all out for 60 in reply to Narara’s 123, with Mark McLachlan (31) top scoring for the lions in the first innings. McLachlan backed up his effort with the ball, as he and captain Mark Smith chimed in with two wickets each to hand the men in green and white first innings points and a chance of outright victory.

accelerated to give Narara a sizeable lead with a fifty-run partnership and a lead of over a hundred. Wickets fell consistently afterwards in an attempt to build an unsumountable lead, though a wag from the tail and a cameo from Captain Mark Smith at the end pushed the advantage to 204. With 41 overs left on day two Jordan once again made an early breakthrough to have Wyong 1/0, though it was to be the only wicket claimed in the outright attempt. Both captains agreed to pull up stumps and Narara walked away with six points. The first eleven host Northern Power at Gavenlock Oval in round eight.

Winning the toss and batting, the Lions had a steady opening partnership before losing the skip with 35 on the board. We moved to 2-66 off 37 overs at the first break with Ethan Lulham (28) and Sam Ashby looking set to kick on in the middle session. Unfortunately we lost our next eight wickets for 33 to be all out for 99 in the 53rd over. With 38 overs to play on day one, the target looked well within reach of the Kangaroos but a combination of our tight bowling and Wyong’s purposeless batting allowed us to prevent the first innings loss when stumps were drawn. Dan Richardson (11-7-1-13) was the tightest of all and picked up a wicket with a neat stumping along the way. Day two showed a different Wyong who, once Lachlan Head (15-3-1-40) had made an early breakthrough, showed clear intent to reach the target and set a lead in quick time. Mick Shelley (12-4-1-48) was unlucky not to have picked up a couple more. Pick of the bowlers was James Smith (10-25-34) who added four to his solitary first day wicket to finish with his first five-fa in only his 3rd match for the club. The ‘Roos declared with a lead of 93 and 64 overs left to play.

After another steady start we lost our first wicket on 33 and then the skipper, Paul Moriarty (21) when the score was 53.

We then lost a couple of quick ones before Adam Walsh (47no) and Aras Baird (17) steadied the ship. We lost Aras just before second break when we held a slim lead of 18 runs with 26 overs remaining. Much to the surprise of the Lions, the Wyong stand-in skipper extended the hand and the game was called off early; allowing us to escape Baker Park with our dignity still intact.

Third Grade Round 7 vs The Entrance at Fagan Park The Entrace 101 and 110 defeated by Narara-Wyoming 102 and 5/113 outright.

Kincumber 9/271 (N Dixon 3/52, G Christy 2/3) defeated NararaWyoming136 (K Frost 34, N Lulham 29) Losing the toss, Kyle Frost was promoted to open the bowling with Geoff Christy and it resulted in a good start having Kincumber in all sorts at 3/16. At drinks Kincumber found themselves at 4/59 and then five down for the same score as Neil Dixon picked up a wicket just after the break. That’s where the joy ended though as Kincumber’s captain had other ideas, making a chanceless hundred before he finally fell to Scott Howison on 121 which was Scott’s first wicket for the club. All the other bowlers contributed well, some without much luck as we managed to drop yet another 3 catches for the match and needing a mammoth total of 271 for victory. Day two did not get off to a good start with the batting line up changing three times before play due to unforeseen circumstances. We got off to a horrible start losing our first wicket in the 3rd over and by the tenth over we were reeling at 5/32 thanks largely to a guy who had not played for 3 years bowling big in-swingers and dismissing 2 of our top order batsmen by making a mess of their stumps.

A small partnership from Ben Wilkinson and Luke Abra-Colnan kept Kincumber at bay, though after losing Luke, Kyle Frost came out and nicked off first ball, only for the keeper to give him a life by dropping the catch. He then built a good partnership with Ben for another 17 overs before once again the in swinger took Ben’s off stump. We then lost another couple of quick wickets including Kyle finally falling for his highest score for the club of 34 and top scoring for the side to be in all sorts at 9/135. Out strode Scott Howison for the first time I had seen him bat and together with Nick Lulham they batted sensibly with all sorts of blocks and forward defences not seen by the top order batsmen to keep Kincumber out in the field for another 22 overs for the final wicket, before Nick fell

The Roar

Great news is that all of our teams have experienced success in terms of individual performances and many milestones both personal or team achievement including many wins. There is no doubting the spirit of competition and enjoyment in the game that playing as a Narara-Wyoming Lion and with your friends brings to the field. To all our mums and dads, thank you for being a part of the excitement and for all your help and support with training, games and encouragement.

Cricket is a great sport, embodying fairness and competition, fun and effort, and struggle in pursuit of great outcomes. At NWJCC we encourage fair play, integrity and a commitment to play by the ethics as set out in the associations code of conduct. We want our players to enjoy the game, learn, make friends, be safe and achieve success through personal growth. With these in mind, please continue to support our children in these pursuits.

Help the make it to training so they can practice and improve, actively encourage them during their games with positive reinforcement, ensure they are equipped with the tools to play safe (gear, water, snacks, sunscreen) and make sure that we accept nothing less than fair play – from ourselves and our opponents. These all continue to make the game great. For those interested, our committee meetings are held on the third Thursday of every month at 7:30 at the Grange Hotel (one of our main sponsors). All are welcome to attend, so please feel free to drop by and join us and meet the people who help us be great. And finally, be sure to celebrate with us on the 19th of December at the NararaWyoming Cricket Club Christmas party. There’ll be lots of games, a free sausage sizzle for players, a twilight movie under the stars, fairy floss, a visit from Santa, and of course lots of fun. I hope to see you there, and around the grounds as the year progresses. Continue to have fun, and enjoy the spoils of this great game. Rob Blandford NWJCC Chairman

Junior Match Reports T20 Blast Greens vs. Brisbane Water Goannas 28/11/15 Adcock Park Our T20 Blasters have been working hard at training and were super keen to get going under inclement skies at Adcock Park. Once again, Brisbane Water were short of players so Zac stepped up and did a great job for the Goannas. He was part of a blistering 77 run partnership, took 1 for 6 and was brilliant in the field, not to mention being a great sport. The Greens’ bowlers bowled great line and length with the pick of the bowlers being Aston with 0 for 8, Louis 1 for 10 and AJ 2 for 1! With the bat we had many good partnerships, AJ and Sam scored 61, Jess and Tom put on 20, Louis and Corey compiled 36, with Aston and Declan getting 30 between them. It was a close match but unfortunately we gave away a few too many bonus runs through inexperienced running between wickets, and went down narrowly. The kids are showing great promise and are really improving, with a big win just around the corner.

T 20 Blast Greens vs Brisbane Water Geckos 5/12/15 Adcock Park With a strong training session under their belt, the Greens were excited to display the skills they developed during the week. Finally, we had a sunny Saturday at Adcock Park to battle the Brisbane Water Geckos, who we invited to bat first because they were short of players. Our bowling was outstanding today, with far fewer ‘free-hits’ allowed due to improved line and length. A greater proportion of our wickets were due to batters being bowled and caught rather than run out. Having said that, our fielders were also in fine form, throwing themselves around and preventing many singles and boundaries. Top performances with the ball came from Jessica with 3 for 16, Declan 1 for 10, Aston 1 for 15, Tom 0 for 15, and showing great improvement, Corey had the figures

With the bat, the Greens showed much greater discipline when running between wickets, implementing great calling skills to stay safe, but also sneak singles when possible. Today also saw us take advantage of the ‘Double-Zone’ as we played many cracking straight drives when the ball was pitched up. Our batters were quick to jump on the short ball and pull many balls to or over the boundary to get the crowd excited! Lian and Declan put on 40, Aston and Corey got 41, Louis and Jessica compiled 42, with Tom and our super sub Josh (thanks for helping us today), were the heroes, getting us over the line in the last over with a smart and sensible 41. Great effort today kids, it is awesome to see you implementing your new found skills, having fun and showing great sportsmanship along the way. Two more big games before the Christmas break before we bring the Blue Tongues back to Fortress Davo. The Roar

Junior Report Continued Round 4 14C’s vs Lisarow-Ourimbah 21st November, 28th November. Result - Narara-Wyoming victory

Under 16B – Round 4 vs The Entrance Blue at EDSACC South Narara-Wyoming 80 & 5/31 lost to The Entrance Blue 5/125 declared.

We lost the toss and Lisarow decided to bat first. We bowled well on early on having Lisarow 3 for 25 before Lisarow rebuilt with a 50 run partnership for the 4th wicket. However once we broke the partnership we quickly were able to remove the remaining batsman, having them all out for 90 after 34 overs.

Winning the toss and batting, our openers, Liam Hassall and Riley Borthwick, did a tough job to see off the strong opening bowlers. After we lost a few wickets, Harry Moriarty (24) joined our skipper, Bella Fitzgibbon (19) to put on our best partnership of the innings. Unfortunately, once Bella was dismissed, we lost our remaining wickets in quick succession. At the end of day one, we bowled pretty tight without taking a wicket.

Wickets went to Jack, Jaymes, John and Lilly who all managed 2 each. Our run chase began well with John and Lilly batting very well unfortunately John fell for 11 before a little collapse saw us lose another 4 quick wickets. Lilly eventually was out for 38 and some solid batting from Declan and Jaymes saw us get over the line before being bowled for 119. Lisarow had a second bat which saw them reach 7/63 with wickets being taken by Brennan, Ryan, Aydan, Declan, Jaxon, Lilly and David. This win made it 2 wins in a row. Phillip Anderson.

The Roar

On day two, we made regular breakthroughs but couldn’t contain the scoring, so the Seagulls passed us three down before going for quick runs and declaring. Pick of our bowlers were Bella (4-2-0-2), Jayden Fender (4-1-1-12), Nathan Ball (4-1-1-7), Zane Montgomery (3-1-1-2) and Harry (3-0-111) while Riley Borthwick and Dale Fish bowled well without luck. With 20 overs to go we had another bat and were struggling a little but held on to keep the result at a first innings loss.

Under 16B – Round 4 vs The Entrance at EDSACC South Narara-Wyoming 8-112 (25 overs) lost to The Entrance 3/121 (20 overs)

Senior Players of the Round – (Round 7 – 28th November & 5th December) 1st Grade – Kyle Jordan – Waratah Sports voucher

We won the toss and decided to bat and, despite the setback of an early run out, we got the score to 1-47 through a good partnership between Harry Moriarty (26) and Jayden Fender (23). Jayden was joined by Dale Fish (27) who continues to improve all facets of his game and top scored with some nice shots before Dale and Nathan Ball got the score to 3-99. Unfortunately the middle order didn’t capitalise on the good top order batting and our run rate slowed in the last five overs as regular wickets fell. We didn’t start our bowling innings particularly well and let a chance slip away against one of their openers who went on to retire at 52. The damage was done while he was at the crease and, despite some tidy bowling from Zane Montgomery (2-00-7), Harry (2-1-0-2) and Jayden (2-0-1-9) and wickets to Riley Borthwick and Ryan Makepeace, we couldn’t stop the flow of runs and went down with five overs to spare. Our fielding let us down at crucial moments and we’ll need to lift that standard to capitalise on our opportunities in future matches. Paul Moriarty.
