What is a noun? A noun is a part of speech that can be either a person, a place or a thing. Nouns are perhaps the easiest part of speech to pick out. Nouns are the part of speech that tells the reader who, what or where the sentence is about. Nouns are usually the subject of sentences and do not change tense, as verbs do. Without nouns, speech and writing would not make any sense. There are several types of nouns. Proper nouns are specific people, places or things. These nouns are capitalized, and are easy to pick out of a sentence. Examples of Proper nouns Rodriguez, Arecibo and Editorial Panamericana.
