Besetzung: Die Partitur ist in C notiert. Kontrabaß ist um eine Oktave, Glockenspiel und Crotales sind um zwei Oktaven transponiert notiert. 2 Fl. 2 Ob. 2 Klar. (in B) 2 Fag. 4 Hr. in F 3 Trp. in C 3 Pos. 1 Tb. Harfe Pauke (1 Spieler) Schlagzeug (3 Spieler): Crotales, Glockenspiel, Vibrafon (sempre senza motore), Peitsche, kleine Trommel 1, kleine Trommel 2, große Trommel, Tamtam (groß), Gong (großes A) Streicher: 14,12, 10, 6, 8 (Minimum)

Großer gemischter Chor Solo-Sopran (Im Publikum auf dem Rang oder einer Empore positioniert, möglichst gegenüber dem Orchester. Die Sopranistin soll einen Ferneffekt erzielen, aber dennoch sichtbar sein.)


Miletus

Limb tearing west wind blasts pestilence, And Death, reckless, apportions Unfolding illusions of becoming In the catafalque confines of time.

The dissipate grin of a new dawn Strafes jagged shadows from the shattered lintel. Love plucks fleeting respite from strife under corrugated metal, While shard silhouettes of children disembody laughter on cratered ground. Wishing for mortality, exhausted fury turns her face to the wall. But the stone gives no reflection.

Anguish cradles the poet's head Trying to linger the past of once-seen truth; But skewed gaze deceives, the singing slips away. Only the cracked, stained cup Is identity's marker in the scavenged unavenged grip.

In distant land where sedge marsh mists rise up Where danger chants away from hard won paths, Labour loses profit in the mud And sight is shortened by the cloying fog. Brute hands wring tares from dripping grass, Collect tears for yellow cerecloth rags. Why, unmoved mover of a recessed earth, Gape from far off the spirit that connects the gods? Now tourniquet choke off The swollen vein of self! Slash slow the eye! Leave blind sclerotic Weep stasis For the ruptured sun!

Miletus – Deutsche Fassung "Woraus die Dinge entstehen, in eben dasselbe müssen sie auch vergehen, nach der Notwendigkeit; denn sie müssen Buße zahlen für ihre Ungerechtigkeit, nach der Ordnung der Zeit." Anaximander Eitler Quell aus Skarabs Loch vergiftet die Zwillingsflüsse des Vergessens. Erinnerung, wankend, spleißt Wahrheit ab in abgrundtiefe Wässer, wo Leichen trinken. Gliederzerreißender Westwind bläst Pestilenz, Und Tod, eiskalt, trägt hin erwachende Bilder vom Werden ins Grenzgerüst der Zeit. Das zügellose Grinsen einer neuen Dämmerung wirft Schattenzacken des zersplitterten Gebälks. Liebe pflückt sich flüchtigen Aufschub des Streits unter welligem Blech, während Schattenbildscherben von Kindern Gelächter aufschlitzen auf karstigem Grund. Sterblichkeit ersehnend neigt die erschöpfte Furie ihr Antlitz zur Mauer. Doch der Stein gibt nichts zurück. Qualen betten des Dichters Haupt, welcher zu hindern versucht das Welken einst geschauter Wahrheit; Doch schiefes Starren trügt, das Singen gleitet hinweg. Allein der zerbrochene rostige Kelch ist Zeichen des Seins in der erwühlten ungerächten Fessel. Im fernen Land, wo Reetmoornebel steigen empor Wo singende Gefahr hinweglockt von hart erkämpften Pfaden, Verliert Arbeit den Ertrag im Schlamm Das Sehen ist verkürzt durch fetten Nebel Rohe Hände reißen Kraut von tropfendem Gras, Sammeln Tränen für wächserne Leichenlumpen.

Edition Peters For more than 200 years, Edition Peters has been synonymous with excellence in classical music publishing. Established in 1800 with the keyboard works of J. S.
