Supply and Demand Ms. Alana Rivera’s ERWC class had a Conspiracy Theory project that turned out to be very engaging. She had her students research, provide a works cited page, and use oral testimony about conspiracies. Jessica Estrada, Miguel Perez and Ms. Williams dealt with Black Dahlia, Pokemon and Illuminati as their research. The students incorporated technology with their presentations. They were able to pick their project, which helped motivate them to conduct research appropriate for their presentation. [see Rivera, p. 3]
Modern Day Shakespeare Hark ye! Want to be like Macbeth? Ms. Sarah Paulis did a masterful job of getting her students to learn Macbeth, and have fun doing it. They studied Shakespeare’s work on ambition and guilt, and then converted it into a modern day skit. Methinks that the students had fun learning about Macbeth, while applying modern day colloquialism and situations. The skits were a pleasure to watch. The students were into their roles having been properly prepared by Ms. Paulis. [see Paulis, p. 3] O House Gazette

Mr. Flextime Mr. Parsons is a very active classroom teacher. He incorporates backpack checks, roams the room and is expertly assisted by Ms. Thelma Custodio during the Period 4 Tutorial room. He keeps all students engaged with work that needs to be done. He is Mr. Flex Time, by supporting both teachers and students, in the immediate needs of the pupil. Mr. Parsons hails from Parkers Prairie, Minnesota - a town smaller than Samohi. He also has family with backgrounds in the field of education. His tutorial class is always a beehive of activity. He would love to see a system that can easily communicate class work to general education teachers to tutorial teachers so that we can best support our students. He has established a cohesive and collaborative class in which the students also assist each other on similar activities from other classes.
Senior Pin Ceremony Ms. Laura Simone cordially invites you to attend our Senior Pin Ceremony on Wednesday, May 29th at 3:45 in the Centennial Quad. This event is where we present each senior with an “O” House pin to wear at graduation. We ask teachers to come to help “pin” the students. The seniors really appreciate seeing their teachers at this event, and if you are new to Samohi, it is a fun event to experience. This is a special time that reminds us about why we went into education! So, please come on out, enjoy good food, good camaraderie and the best part is it lasts no longer than an hour! AP Exam Review Ms. Rita Lofstedt (left) had an engaging exchange with students as they reviewed a 2012 AP Physics exam. The topic centered on point allocation. The question and answer period revolved around work they had done in preparation of their AP Exam.

I laughed the whole period, as students re-enacted their version of Macbeth. This activity (right) required creativity, ownership, accountability, consensus and cooperation. Each character had at least 8 lines of 10 syllables each (pentameter), in this modern day translation of Macbeth. No woe here!

Samohi Love Ms. Kat Boyd hails from
Memphis Tennessee and landed here in California, where for 31 years she has been a part of students' education as a custodian. You can hear her loving and booming voice after school in the hallways. The loves of her life are her grandkids, courtesy of her beautiful son and daughter. Mrs. Boyd emphatically states that she “loves all of her teachers…they are so sweet.” In her free time, she is a big Golden State Warriors' fan and is currently enjoying their
