WELCOME TO INCOMING PRESCHOOL, TK AND KINDERGARTEN STUDENTS – Because there are many siblings among the nearly 130 new students joining us for 2019-2020, we want to extend a welcome and some enrollment reminders in this last newsletter of the year! If you are enrolling a new student, please work with Kathy Fargnoli to make sure your enrollment is complete as quickly as possible, including the required permit. The Family Picnic for entering TK and K Students is scheduled for Sunday afternoon, August 18 at 2:00 pm, so please save the date. If you have a child entering Seaside PreSchool this year, please join us for a family Seaside Afternoon Tea/Tardeada on Wednesday, August 21. Please plan on attending the event that pertains to your child to help him/her get comfortable with the campus and meet other children. It makes the transition to school much more comfortable for the little ones.

Congratulations to our Retirees Lorissa Boxer, Sandy Cano and Carol Garcia Ramirez and Thank You to Gregorio Nepomuceno We will miss you!

2019-2020 School Year Begins Thursday, August 22, with a minimum day for all students.

FROM THE PRINCIPAL’S DESK: THANKS TO THE EDISON VILLAGE! It takes a village to raise a child So many people have dedicated their time, talent and dedication to our students this school year and I am profoundly grateful to them all. There’s an extensive community of staff, collaborating partners, and parent volunteers that contribute to a great school year – so many that I’m afraid I may miss some of them! Please forgive me if I do. I have to start by recognizing our incredible staff. Twenty teachers lead instruction in the classrooms, with support from 13 instructional assistants, 2 Physical Activities Specialists, 3 reading interventionists, 7 district music teachers, a Spanish Music Teacher, a PS Arts Artist in Residence, a Library Coordinator, a school nurse and two Health Office Specialists. We have another support team that provides services to children who have IEPs, including 2 Specialized Academic Instruction teachers, a Speech/Language Pathologist, a School Psychologist, an Occupational Therapist and an instructional assistant. Three campus monitors help with supervision and safe arrivals and departures. A Language and Literacy Coach helps support professional development. Three cafeteria staff keep the children fed, and three custodial staff keep our campus clean. Our community liaison supports families and ELAC, helps recruit students, and translates and interprets. And our two front office staff make sure we pay the staff, keep track of attendance, have the supplies we need, and generally keep the place running! We have great collaborating partners also serving children during and after the school day. School Age Child Care Staff, and CREST Staff (CREST Club, Homework Club, Playground Access, Coaches and Enrichment Teachers) guide the 200+ students who regularly participate in afterschool programs. Family Services of Santa Monica and School Counselor Cynthia Lua provide counseling support, social skills groups, and parent education. Garden Educators Lucia Burke and Debbie Harding guide all K-5 students in the garden. And Edison parents make amazing contributions! Volunteers help in the classrooms, provide a steady stream of communication to families, create the special events and festivals we love, prepare dinner for evening events, organize parent education forums, and raise the funds for important projects and services –those provided by the Edison PTA and the Santa Monica Education Foundation. Other parents on ELAC, PTA Board, and Site Council provide important insight and input in developing our school plan and budget. Great appreciation to our phenomenal parents who have taken on leadership roles this year-- Heidi Vega Aimonetti and Luz Prieto (President of PTA and ELAC respectively) and to Site Council Chair John Zimmerman. Thanks to all the members of the Edison “village” for the wonderful opportunities and care you have provided to our students!
