{ A SHORT HISTORY }

Revolution’s reason to be is to offer the best value range of uniquely-styled high-quality bicycles, cycle accessories and clothing in the UK. Derived from the slogan we adopted in 1999 The Revolution Will Not Be Motorised - Revolution is the registered trademark of Edinburgh Bicycle Co-op.

We’re not trying to reinvent the bicycle here. Our goal is to make better bikes and bike bits, based on what we have learned over the past 30 years. And the Number One lesson we have learned is this. The best way to make bikes better is to keep our eyes open and to listen to our customers. The evolution of our Revolution Courier range is a perfect example of this process. In the late ‘90s some of our mechanics got into cobbling together cheap ‘hack’ bikes. A hack bike would typically start with a discarded MTB frame and wheels. Then it would be built into a street bike with narrower slick tyres and a simpler

transmission: 8-speed or even single speed rather than 24 gears. The result was the perfect urban machine: one that married MTBlike strength with close-to-roadbike speed. The hack bike might be the mechanic’s sole doeverything bike. Alternatively, it might complement the more bling road or mountain bike that he or she wouldn’t dare leave locked outside the pub.

example of which is probably the Cannondale Bad Boy.

No clutter or fuss, just all the bike you should ever need.

While the original 8-speed Courier Classic has remained fundamentally the same - the perfect bike for thousands of riders - the Courier concept continued to evolve into a range comprising 6 discrete models.

VALUE FOR MONEY

We had a hunch that a fast, tough, low-maintenance bike wasn’t just for bicycle mechanics and couriers. It might be the perfect bike for normal people too. We therefore set about creating a good, honest, stripped-down bike - not with discarded parts this time - but with a brand-new lifetimeguaranteed MTB frame, stout MTB wheels, 26x1.5” tyres and an 8-speed Shimano transmission. The Courier was born. That was in 1999. The bike was an instant success. So much so that over the following decade, many of the bigger bike companies brought out similar (but significantly more expensive) models, the best

Want even more stopping power? Here’s one with disc brakes.

Want a wider spread of gears? How about 27-speed? Want an even faster Courier? Go for the 700c wheeled Race version of the Courier with either V-brakes or disc brakes. Offering so many options means we are far more likely to have the bike that suits you perfectly. And by getting each bike just right, every version of the Courier complies with another strand of our philosophy: a Revolution bike should be ‘just enough bicycle’.

We understand that everyone appreciates great value for money. This doesn’t just mean the cheapest prices (though ours often are). Great value is also about producing cycling equipment that you will enjoy using day after day and that you can totally rely on, year after year. Whether it’s a sub-£15 workshopquality Revolution Air track pump; a sub-£25 Revolution hydration pack; a sub-£1,000 RockShox Revelation-equipped Revolution Triad; or a triple-pack of Revolution Air inner tubes for under a tenner; we are confident that Revolution represents some of the best bicycling buys in Britain. And you don’t have to take our word for it. You can read dozens of rave reviews clipped from the cycling press or websites at
