We learn how to love both ourselves and others by being loved, by how our parents, our family loves us. If you grow up in abuse, or trauma, love is trying to be unnoticed to avoid abuse. Love is scary. Love is dangerous. Love is walking on eggshells. Abuse teaches us our needs don't matter, that we can't be loved. When you have a traumatic or abusive past love is a loaded word. I am here to tell you, your abusers couldn't handle the light within you! How do I know? Because inside me is a little girl who was deeply wounded by those who were supposed to love her. Loving myself was akin to climbing Mount Everest without training or equipment. There are all these phrases along the lines of “if you can't love yourself, how are you going to be loved or love someone else?” These are damaging statements to anyone who has abuse in their background. These statements
ACCEPT yourself. Start there. The good, the bad, the beautiful, the ugly. Accept. You don't have to like it, it can make you feel uncomfortable. Its okay! Then, accept you are capable to be loved, because someone can see the TRUE you. Then three things you LIKE about yourself. They can be ridiculous and silly. Then three things you're good at doing or love doing... Do you see where this is going? Every baby step leads up to this moment of I love myself. My imperfections. My weaknesses. My strengths. My bad days. My past. My good days. I don’t have to tell you what challenging times we are living in. There isn’t one person that hasn’t been affected in some way by the happenings of the past two years. I was in deep thought one day and I went online to see how many people actually live on the planet right now. 7.9 billion. With that in mind, I remembered something I came across in a book that stated if everyone on the planet would collectively take even two minutes to send out love into the world, our world would change for the better overnight. Think about that for a second. 7.9 billion people all at one time, sending out love. It’s mind-boggling to think of that many people all doing the same thing at the same time for the common good. But what is even more mind-boggling is the fact that we aren’t doing it. If it’s true that this could actually change the world, this simple act of sending out love, then why wouldn’t we give it a try? What would we have to lose?

The energy of love is the most powerful healing energy there is. If you don’t believe that statement, think about this example. Someone makes you chicken soup when you are sick. Is it the chicken soup that makes you feel better, or is it the fact that someone loved and cared about you enough to do this act of kindness for you?
Every single minute of every single day we have a choice, a choice to make a difference in the world. A choice to be part of the creation of good and the positive, or to be part of the destruction and negativity. The energy we put out into the world every day is what we are living right now. One tool I have used over the years to help me cultivate this (I’m constantly working on this) is from Access Consciousness: “If I’m truly creating my life for me today, what could I choose right away?” For me, it brought up issues around self-worth like, “Am I worthy enough to ask?”, “Can I really put myself first?”. What shows up when you ask yourself that question? BY TERRI PETERSON, SBF, TBF, RPH Most love has conditions. We think if we’re good or work harder, it will bring us more love. Love helps us feel safe and valued in our uncertain world, but there are many layers to love. In the higher realms, love is much more than an emotion or a warm and fuzzy feeling. Love is a bandwidth of high vibrational frequencies that holds the cosmos together. Love encompasses all things. In our physical 3D existence, humans are often looking for love. However, love isn’t something to search for. Love isn’t tangible. It’s always there. It just is. So how do we find it? Breath can open us to love. It was during my breath facilitator training in 2009 when I decided to breathe more deeply and robustly than I had during any of my previous daily facilitated breath sessions. About 1/2 way through, I heard a pop that was loud enough to fill the room. At that very moment, my heart opened to love. The energy rushed into my crown and burst through my heart. The energetic layers of protection, the armor, I had placed on my heart over lifetimes upon lifetimes, had finally cracked open. The feeling was indescribable. Love had always been there - waiting patiently to flow in.

In my last column, I brought up one of RuPaul’s famous sayings, “If you can’t love yourself, how the hell are you going to love someone else?”. So, how do you go about that? In this life, so many are just trying to be understood, find their “tribe”, be appreciated, and most importantly, be heard and seen authentically. To find this, in my current opinion, it’s more about knowing yourself, being truly honest with yourself, and finding the compassion for you (from within yourself) for the things you’re not all that happy about. So often we forget to be heard by our own self - with all its amazing, talented, and sometimes even messy, parts. What if we were to change all that, and what if all those parts were actually OK? What if instead we tuned-in to ourselves and instead of looking for external justifi cations for why we are here, we realized we are justified in who we are just for the simple fact that we ARE here?

There is a song by Tim McGraw Live Like You Were Dying that came on the radio the other day while I was driving home from work and as I was singing the words with the radio it hit me. When I was going through the dark night of the soul I mentally, physically and spiritually thought I was dying – after I had my awakening and my life transformed – not magically – it was a over a period of time and it keeps getting better and better, but as I was singing that song I realized I am living like his words in the song. “And I loved bigger, and I spoke sweeter and I gave forgiveness I’ve been denying.. I became a friend a friend would like to have. I hope you get the chance to live like you were dying.” As I came to this realization I didn’t have to have a doctor tell me I had a disease and was dying, but I had an awakening that taught me how to live and love. What you give out in this life is what you get back. The times we are living now in the world seem to promote fear and keep us in that fear mentality. It may be hard to take some of the first steps but wake up in each morning and be positive, give thanks to God or the Universe and send out positive vibes and love to your family, friends, neighbors, town, state, country, world and then the Universe - expand the love and gratitude and see it spreading and vision your heart expanding as you say this. We were created to love and to be as a Oneness with each other. Don’t wait to start experiencing love in your life – start creating it now! When you open yourself up to knowing, feeling and believing that Oneness; peace and love will all come back to you. Crank up the radio and sing along to your favorite song! Sing it with feeling, emotions and heart – it will uplift you and raise your vibration! Live like you were dying, love as if you never will. a
The meaning of Love has changed for me just as the seasons of my life have changed. Love as a child was my mom, dad, brother and sister. In my teenage years, love was staying up late at a slumber party with friends. My young adult years changed to getting married and having my babies. Next thing you know, I have grandchildren and am experiencing love on an deeper level than I ever thought possible; watching them grow and having their experiences of love expand through their years.
Love now is my husband, my family, my friends, the expos, the store, and so many things! I have found that the more things I love, the more the Universe sends me more things to love! It’s our emotions and feelings the Universe responds to and mirrors back to us. Not so much what we say, but what we feel and the emotion and energy we emanate. We are creators in this life and we have a limited amount of time to enjoy it. I believe in reincarnation and believe I will come back again and my family members will still be in my life as they are my soul family, but we forget our past relation ships and start over. But the soul always remembers love.

The five elements of the face are water, wood, fire, earth, and metal. Each element reflects an organ in the body. Water represents the kidneys. The key things I look for in the water element are the ears, hairline, under the eyes, and chin. The emotion that is associated with the kidneys is fear. Wood represents the liver/gallbladder. The first place on the face that gives clues that the liver needs support is thebetweeneyes and eyelids. The emotion that may need to work with is anger. Fire represents the heart and small intestines. The key areas that I focus on are the nose and the middle of the forehead. The emotion for the fire element is joy. Earth represents the spleen, pancreas, and stomach. The areas on the face that show these deficiencies are the lips, mouth, and nose. The emotion is worry. I see the power of the Creative Spirit through my personal relationship with Creators Space, the organi zation I helped to create and the creative community I am a part of. Through the Creative Spirit… I see the current conditions of our culture and society and the systems of support around those conditions, the healthy ones and the destructive ones. The ones we have manifested, curated, weaved, and for some, still protect. I see the way the collective energy of the universe and nature uses her power to aid in our personal and collective evolution. Creating the conditions for subtle and not so subtle nudges. This is where I also see the many things attached to this opening, disguising its true potential, as an opportunity for growth that needs tran scendence and healing. It may be deep, deep, ancestorial trauma, the multiple layers of oppres sion, the old narratives we hold on to, and the many faces of fear disguised as ego, resistance, and oppressive behavior towards others. All the things holding us back from seeing our gifts, our true and authentic potential, and our connection to all living things. I see the conditions created for active participation and integration of this “new pathway” into the tapestry of one’s life. This is a critical step of choice - one determines if they are ready to step in and participate. This is where I see looping behavior and circumstance as people wrestle with their abilities, courage, and strength to step into the work and actively participate in the journey. This is where I also see the power of sacred circles within commu nities to compliment the subtle nudges of the universe as a way to inspire intention setting and preparation for the journey. I see the active participation in the work. This is where I see the power of intuition and free will in action through the release of judgments and expectations, old narratives and emotions that do not serve the person or their future path. This is where I see the development of one’s intuition and curiosity as a communi cation tool with their Higher Self, Guides and Source. This is where I see the energy of curi osity begin to be amplified and demand more attention. I see the power of community, from actively listening and holding space without judgement, to providing tools, services and resources of support along the way. This is where I begin to see synchronicities, the right people showing up at the right time with the right insight or resources. This is where I see the many forms and modalities of the creative arts used as tools in the transformation process. This is where I see the many faces of spirit that show up to provide unconditional loving guidance through its many forms and whispers, that cross the imaginary borders constructed by our religious divide, to help those in need of their guidance, regardless of their religious designation. This is where I ultimately see the magnitude of the strength and power that we have within us to persevere, move through trauma, and live a life with meaning, peace, love and joy in our hearts. I then see the transformation, the evolving, the growing in perpetual motion as we inten tionally step into the work. The impact is seen within the many threads of our Being and become the foundation for which we build upon as we continue to actively participate cycle after cycle, until we finally step back and see we have evolved far more than what we thought was possible. Then we continue once again to step into the work, but at an elevated starting place, open to the wonderment of unlimited possibili ties. Then I see a calling to help others through the process, which begins the contagion effect, building out stronger systems of support that grows and grows, creating a magical transcen dence ripple just as nature shows us in every moment of every day. BY MAUREEN HIGGINS, MA We have all experienced some form of trauma that keeps us from optimally moving forward in life. These experiences can be anything from verbal attacks, put downs, and mental and emotional manipulation, to physical or sexual abuse. We also have traumatic history in our ancestry which becomes a part of our genetic code. While the DNA in each of our cells is permanent in nature, our epigenome (the way our DNA is expressed) is malleable and can be affected not only by our personal trauma, but also by the trauma of our parents and ancestors. The key is to find ways to energetically uproot the trauma, so we can change the way our body feels and allow it to self-heal. Through my extensive work with clients, I have found that we’ve all had other lifetimes that influ ence our current life trauma as well. You can think of these other lifetimes as archetypes. We attract experiences in our current life, so we can resolve our unhealed past life traumas. Moreover, we’ve also likely chosen to come into our current lifetime within a particular ancestry. Old ancestral patterns and cycles of trauma repeat, so we can attract the unresolved ancestral trauma and heal it.

Working on your ancestral and other lifetimes helps to signifi cantly transform your current life trauma. Doing this work also helps you understand where these traumas are coming from since we tend to repeat anything we haven’t resolved. We are fortunate to live in an era where we have many energetic tools available to help us let go of our traumas and challenges. This work raises our energy so that we can move into Ascension—a vibration that brings in love, kindness, and unity consciousness.
Working on ancestral trauma makes it easier to work on current day trauma and will also help you see how ancestries tend to repeat difficult experi ences unless resolved. Past generations tend to have a lot of unresolved trauma since they were less likely to work on them selves for many valid reasons. In fact, it was often dangerous to express emotional issues and traumatic symptoms. My Grandma Sherman used to say, “If you have too many problems you’ll end up at Anoka State Hospital.” I’ve worked with older people where this happened to them for problems that are considered common today such as postpartum depression and menopause. While things have come along way, still today, there is a definite stigma around having emotional pain and needing help. Unresolved trauma leaves a lot of pain, confu sion, maladaptive behaviors, and stuck energy active in the ancestral energy field. Because we are connected into this field, we tend to feel and act these dynamics out. It’s important to clear up the left over trauma in the energy field so we can more easily work on our own trauma. Moving things out of the ancestral field will also begin the process of expressing your DNA differently which begins the process of clearing up mental, emotional, and physical issues.
Resolving trauma isn’t always easy, but it becomes easier when you realize you’re not alone. You are not unusual, tainted, or bad, nor are you wearing a scarlet letter because of it. Trauma is a universal part of the human condition and nothing to be ashamed of. Knowing this gives you the confidence and courage to work through it. It’s important to have outside help since trauma can limit your ability to see yourself and life clearly. Working with a skilled practitioner can help you reframe your experience, so you can let go of it on a mental, emotional, and physical level. You can also lighten up the trauma you carry by working on your ancestry since ancestral trauma can amplify your current life trauma. If your own trauma feels like 5 or 6, your unhealed, ancestral trauma can make it feel more like an 8 or 9.

Additionally, understanding how past lives affect our trauma is also important since we, in part, come into our current life to resolve these past life issues. We tend to duplicate our past life trauma, so we can work through it today. Resolving past life trauma energeti cally, makes it much easier to heal our current life experiences.

It also can decrease depression. Did you know that from ancient times up to a century ago it was used in battle to treat bleeding injuries. Yarrow encourages coagulation. It’s also a pain reliever. A pinch of yarrow powder will stop bleeding from scrapes, minor cuts, and nosebleeds. When made into an ointment it helps heal burns, cuts and scrapes. This is a great herb to know when out in the wilderness in case of emer gencies. You can pack a wound with yarrow to stop a larger bleed. When harvesting yarrow, you want to harvest the long fern like leaves found at the base of the plant. Dry them out completely, blend them, creating a powder known as styptic powder. Store this in a container. Use this powder to stop bleeding. Yarrow is an anti-inflammatory, it’s great for arthritis and sore muscles. Many people chew on yarrow to help with toothaches and drink yarrow tea to ease headaches. Digestive issues? No problem, yarrow can ease that too. It also has an antimicrobial trait easing effects of colds and flu. How can you use yarrow magically? Yarrow can be used for protection, love, and psychic awareness. Also known to dispel negativity. You can attach the dried flowers to your besom to help remove negativity from your home or ritual space. Yarrow was even used by warriors in battle to bring them personal courage in ancient roman times.

Dr. Zhou: When I was a young boy growing up in China, I always remembered when I complained about having colds or sports injuries. My mom always took me to see my grandfather for either acupuncture or herbal medicine treatment. I always felt better immediately after the treatment. I grew up utilizing acupuncture and traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) as major treatment methods. After 40 years of practice and teaching acupuncture and TCM, and after successfully treating thou sands and thousands of patients, not only in China but also in America, I felt this traditional healing modality is a really valid treatment option to help Americans with many chronic or acute medical conditions and both physical and emotional problems.
3. Tell us about your school, the training and offerings and why it is essential now more than ever to know and be trained in the techniques?
1. Growing up in China, your parents and grandparents used acupuncture and other modalities as tools and techniques for everyday healing practices. Would you tell us more about this?
Dr. Zhou: Our school offers Masters and Doctorate degrees for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine. The training for the Masters program takes about 3 to 4 years (36 to 48 months), but if you have a medical or bioscience background, it can take as little as 27 months. The acupuncture program focuses on acupuncture and acupuncture modalities. In the Oriental Medicine program, learn both acupuncture and herbal medicine. If you already graduated from acupuncture school and have an acupunc ture license, you also can get our doctoral degree program in 20 to 48 months. We have many dedicated and experienced faculty and visiting professors, and experts to teach both Masters and Doctorate programs. Today, with the increasing risk of recession, companies laying off people, I think getting the skills of natural healthcare, learning acupuncture treatment techniques is so essential for prospective students.
2. You were a professor in China and decided to come to America. Tell us about this journey. Why did you choose to land in the Midwest?
Dr. Zhou: Our school’s name is the American Academy of Health and Wellness. Our next class starts after Labor Day. 4. How does someone find out more about your school and classes?
Dr. Zhou: I came to the United States of America in July 1993 for the International Conference of Oriental Medicine in Monterey Park, Los Angeles. After the conference, the Southern California Acupuncture Association invited me to teach scalp acupuncture for stroke rehab. During the week of the workshop, one of the doctors from Princeton, New Jersey, Latiff Bawjwa, who went to China in 1991, did an internship at my depart ment in China and invited me to give a lecture and treat patients in New Jersey, Pennsylvania and New York. When I was working at his clinic, I realized acupuncture had just started to become popular in the USA and there was a great demand from the patients. I managed to obtain a part-time teaching job in Minneapolis. After six months, I got a full-time job teaching in Wisconsin, then I relocated to Madison to start to teach acupuncture and traditional Chinese herbal medicine. Then, I started my own acupuncture practice in October of 1996 in Madison, WI.

Steve: In basic terms, what is your creative process, from concept or sketch to the finished piece?

Konstantin: I always start with diving into the chaos of colors and patterns. The painting guides my decisions and somehow magi cally creates itself. Every painting makes its own rules, and that is something you can't plan beforehand. That is the main reason why I paint, to see something manifest I couldn't imagine before. It's really a magical process and I think that I am addicted to it.
Konstantin: I couldn't exist without creating art. It gives me everything I miss wandering our well-known paths; magic, mystery and endless possibilities. The art I create are my windows to infinity. They remind me every day, that we live in an unfathomable world, much bigger than our imagination can grasp.
One of the greatest perks of my job is meeting truly amazing people. On this occasion, that amazing person is the wildly-creative Konstantin Bax. Normally I stay behind the camera, but this time I had to seize the opportunity to interview Konstantin from the high mountains of Austria via Zoom. Konstantin: I have a very holistic worldview. Everything in this universe has potential to initiate a thought or a feeling in us, and therefore everything can be a source of inspiration. But if I would have to pin it down, it is the unknown which fascinates me the most. I connect with it when I create, and my paintings are mostly an attempt to catch a short glimpse into it.
Steve: Is the artistic process also a healing process for you?
Steve: Typically how long do your paintings take to complete, and when do you know they are 'done'? Konstantin: I am looking for an interdimensional harmony, beyond the mere image. A painting is finished when that is achieved. Sometimes all fits together very quickly, sometimes my brain melts and years go by.

Over the years, I’ve come to realize that many of us spiritual seekers dabble, flounder, and chase “shiny objects”—using up valuable time, energy, resources, and years of our lives as “truth seekers” instead of becoming “truth finders.” It’s not to say that we don’t find truth, we all do to varying degrees. The problem I see is that when we do (like the Cookie Monster who gobbles up cookies), we often times minimize such an experience, dismissing it completely, or rushing off onto the “next best thing” as if it were some sort of a race—getting our fill without giving each experience the time it requires to deepen and enhance our senses forever more. However you perceive enlightenment, putting in the work to change how you live your life is what it takes to get there. We are given only glimpses into what our guided actions should be for the next hour, not the next decade. Practice: rip up a sheet of paper into ten pieces, write a task on each piece. Pull one at random (you’ll be guided). Take one micro-action. Then another. And another. Happiness is the by-product of acting in service and doing the next right thing.
