Standing my ground from the editor by Tim Miejan

I sAt ON the balcony off our upstairs bedroom, eyes closed, the only sense of time measured by the moving shadows of clouds overhead. Occasionally the scene turned bright on my eyelids and I felt the warmth of the sun on my face. I tried to relax, but ended up listening to my racing heartbeat and urged it to slow down to normal. But what, really, is normal? Just hours earlier, about ten in the morning, I sat in front of my computer in the other upper room of our townhome, just minding my own business. My cat, Sunti, more a loyal pup than a feline, slept on the back of the overstuffed recliner while I typed. Suddenly, he awoke and stiffly froze in fear. I looked out my office door toward the stairway leading up, and I heard quiet footsteps and saw a shadow of a head rising up the wall. My mind instantly told me it wasn’t my wife, because she was in her car. My mind instantly told me it wasn’t a potential renter looking at the place because the landlord hadn’t called to alert me. Someone must have hit the silent alarm, because I jumped to my feet and all I saw was the back of a black teenager’s head as I turned and flew down the steps and yelled to high heaven and ran about 3/5 of a mile in 10 seconds, chasing the intruder out the front door and around the block. A neighbor stopped mowing his lawn and told me he saw the guy run by him but didn’t think anything of it. In a thick Eastern European accent, he told me to get a gun because “they’ll rob you for only five bucks.” I found the screen removed from a front window. I didn’t see anything out of place other than the lamp that had fallen over when he ran out in front of me. Turns out the kid stole my cheap pay-by-the-month cellphone. Nothing else was missing except some peace of mind. In hindsight, I was surprised how fast I ran after the cat burglar. After all, just a week earlier while cleaning out the garage as I prepared

to move back to the Twin Cities, a couple of bookshelves fell on my left big toe. It turned black and I was hobbling that past week — but it seemed to work well when I counted on it. In hindsight, I spent too much time on the “what ifs.” What if the intruder hadn’t moved when I came running at him? What if he had a gun? What if I had a gun? Is the price of a life equal to a cellphone? I had been watching the Zimmerman trial online, and the jury began deliberating about three hours after I chased the intruder out of my home. I stood my ground, without a weapon, and it worked out all right. I posted a few thoughts on Facebook and people wrote that they were glad I was okay — and I appreciated every comment. But I was left thinking about the nameless teen who had the guts to crawl through my window in broad daylight, not really knowing if anyone was home or not. And I wondered why someone would risk his life to steal what he probably hoped was an iPhone. Perhaps it was for the thrill of it all, but I’m guessing he was as fearful as I was when he was running out my front door. Maybe not. As I sat on the balcony off our upstairs bedroom, I said a prayer that he would make better choices, that he would finish school and eventually tell his children to avoid a life of crime. I don’t know whether my sentiment was received, but for me, it felt better than pulling a trigger. a Tim Miejan is editor and publisher of The Edge. Kryon channel Lee Carroll returns Internationally renowned author Lee Carroll will present a five-hour lecture and live channeling from the loving energies of Kryon beginning at noon Saturday, August 10. The event, hosted by Anita Collodoro, will be at the Minneapolis Airport Marriott, 2020 East American Blvd., in Bloomington. Carroll will discuss “Reality and Physics,” exploring recent discoveries that explain not only a world beyond our perception, but how God may work with us using multi-dimensional realities. Is this “woo-woo?” Lee calls it physics. Scientific validation of the Kryon work continues to come in. Was Kryon correct about the weather? Is quantum information really in DNA? What 2012 discovery validates what Kryon said about so-called junk DNA? Is there proof about Pleiadian ancestry? Was there really a Lemuria? Carroll’s many trips to South America have begun to answer compelling questions. Have the indigenous

people of the planet been telling us something all along, but their messages have gotten lost in our “modern day prophesies” of doom and gloom?  The messages of Kryon have been shared by Carroll for 23 years worldwide, and he has written 15 books published in 24 languages. Having presented seven times at the United Nations in New York, Lee Carroll as well as in 30 different countries overseas, Carroll attracts audiences in the thousands. His fascinating, entertaining lectures bring a message of love, empowerment and unity for humanity. To learn more about Lee Carroll and Kryon, visit www.kryon.com. Wags and Worship: Dogma with a twist…and a wag What do you get when you cross a spiritually minded, animal-loving couple from the Twin Cities with a West Coast concept? Sage Lewis, owner of Dancing Porcupine, and her partner, singer/songwriter James Schattauer, are the masterminds (and hearts) behind Wags and Worship — A Celebration For All Beings — an opportunity for people to bring their pets to church. In the first five months at Spirit United Church, Wags and Worship has connected people and animals on Sunday mornings with themselves, one another and Great Spirit — a place of deepening spiritual practice. Those who maybe hadn’t been to a church in years are coming to hear the message and the music. Some who have recently lost their pets are coming to Wags and Worship just to be with the animals in a sacred setting.   Wags and Worship is a special Sunday morning service at Spirit United Church, 3204 Como Ave. SE, Minneapolis, where people can bring their pets to contemplate, grow, connect and be with a community of other animal lovers. Services are on the first Sunday of the month from 9-9:30 a.m. before the regular service at 10:30 a.m. All pets are welcome. He is the author of Living Your Past Lives: The Psychologist of Past-Life Regression, The Karma in Your Relationships, and co-author of Lion of Satan, Lion of God. Additionally, he has provided psychological services in school systems in Maryland and Minnesota for the past 40 years.  “Living Your Past Lives” seminar — Tuesday, Aug. 6, 6:45-9 p.m. — Discover where you are living out your karma in everyday life, what created the karma, what

holds it in place, where it lives inside of you, and the one thing it asks of us. Prenatal conditioning and the “karmic network” that we build around us also will be discussed.  Private Regression Sessions — August 7-9 — In an individual session, the client and the practitioner focus on the pattern most active in the client’s life which is then explored in an attempt to complete what is unfinished. St. Hildegard of Bingen

a retreat center for spirituality and meditation in Central Wisconsin, will offer a retreat September 13-15 titled “Hildegard Fest! In Spirit and In Song.” The retreat will offer the opportunity to sing the healing sound of Hildegard’s music and chant (no experience necessary) and gain inspiration from exploring St. Hildegard’s life. The retreat is facilitated by Susan Lincoln (right), a classically trained singer, who sings the 12th century music of Hildegard daily. Ms. Lincoln

is internationally known as an inspiring teacher who uses the teachings and songs of Hildegard to strengthen Susan Lincoln and enrich her student’s spiritual lives. Her recent recording of Karitas from her Mother Heart CD of Hildegard’s music was handpicked by Eckhart Tolle for inclusion on his new CD, Music for Inner Stillness.  Susan will be joined by

co-facilitator Gabriele Uhlein, OSF, Ph.D., who will provide inspiration from Hildegard’s food and healing recipes and sacred visions. The cost of the retreat is a sliding scale of $100-$200, plus meals and lodging. For more information about Susan Lincoln, visit www.susanlincoln. com. Meet St. Hildegard of Bingen: Mystic, visionary, artist and healer for our time by Gabriele Uhlein In 1981, five volumes of mystical writing literally fell into my lap. They were dropped there by Matthew Fox, who was looking for a translator willing to popularize the renowned German mystic, Hildegard of Bingen. That request blossomed into a small book, Meditations with Hildegard of Bingen, and I have been on the trail of all things Hildegard ever since. Let me introduce her. Born in 1098, the tenth of ten children, she was given as a child-tithe to a monastery (a rather common practice for lesser noble families). A cloistered, frail woman, she dared in her early forties to give voice, at last, to her astounding visionary gift for music, for theological reflection, for healing and even for preaching political reform. In doing so, when even living past 50 was unusual, Hildegard lived almost forty more years of intensely robust life! At a time when few women could write at all, Hildegard not only produced major works of theological “illuminations,” she also made inspired use of the healing aspects of plants, animals, trees and semi-precious stones. When few women were esteemed, her wisdom was sought by bishops, popes and kings. She gave advice, offered truth and confronted political maneuvering. Her correspondence reveals her outspoken daring, her spiritual innovation and her caring spiritual direction. More than 300 of her letters still exist! Hildegard is the first woman composer whose biography is known. Passed from generation to generation of women in her abbey, over seventy musical compositions

inspired by her visions, Hildegard cultivated a deep appreciation of holistic healing and is credited with recording more than 2,000 remedies.” survive, one of the largest repertoires of any medieval composer. Her musical style is characterized by soaring melodies, which were very unusual for the time. Her music and text intuitively intertwine — a rare occurrence in 12th century chant. Hildegard gave her words wing; she set them to soar on the deepest, truest up-drafts of soul. It was her intention to simply be “a feather on the breath of God,” and to heal and make whole what an ignorance of God’s ways had fractured. Inspired by her visions, Hildegard cultivated a deep appreciation of holistic healing and is credited with recording more than 2,000 remedies. She considered treating symptoms to be a futile effort. The whole body and the all-important soul required consideration for the healing process to be successful. Not only was there a close connection between diet and health, but also between our bodies and foods, and between the human and the cosmos. Last year, I had opportunity to suggest a Hildegard Fest to celebrate her recent

canonization. (Why it took over 900 years is another story!) Plans were made, and wouldn’t it be a lovely idea if we could use some of her recipes? It was her “cookies that bring joy” (with equal parts nutmeg, cinnamon and cloves) that became Fest favorites. Using these “joyful” spices, Hildegard instructs, “Make small cookies and eat these often. They will reduce bad humors, enrich the blood, and fortify the nerves.” How could you not love a theological visionary and prophet that also recommends a happy cure of spice cookies! This year we’ll celebrate our second annual Hildegard Fest at the Christine Center on September 13-15, beginning at 6:30 pm. Using her music and visions, participants will experience a feast that offers the timeless wisdom of Hildegard’s “Veriditas” or “greening power” manifest in all God’s glorious creation. Joined by the internationally known Hildegard musician, Susan Lincoln, we’ll give our souls voice, eat amazing food a la Hildegard, and simply celebrate becoming whole. Anyone already enchanted by Hildegard will find a wise, old friend. If you have not met her yet, come and let the most influential woman of the 12th century sing to your heart. a Gabriele Uhlein, OSF, PhD is a Franciscan sister, theologian and artist. A member of the Christine Center Core Team, she is dedicated to the recovery of the Christian mystical tradition and the honoring of intuition in spiritual deepening. In 1983 she authored a small book: Meditations with Hildegard of Bingen. She has been sharing her love of Hildegard ever since. For more information on the Christine Center, call 715.267.7507. Could I forgive the terrorists of 9/11? A personal challenge from a higher place by Cheryl Kempton

It was September 13, 2001, and about an hour into my drive from the Twin Cities to Colorado. I turned on the radio. The country was still in shock from what had occurred two days earlier, with many questions, very few answers, and an inability to talk about anything else. Angry conjecture came through the airwaves. As I trundled my way down I-35, I knew 14 hours of listening to that would drive me crazy. Luckily, I had armed myself with a good supply of audio books and CDs. So I popped in Caroline Myss and settled down for the long journey. As Caroline talked about forgiveness, I thought about how I had always believed in the power of forgiveness to heal and transform, and how I had to really work at it in certain areas of my life. I had to admit to myself that deep down there was still some long-term resentment lurking in the depths of my psyche. But I listened with an open mind and a willingness to confront my demons as I faced the expanse of open road. Then an innocent little thought appeared out of nowhere: “Could I forgive the 9/11 terrorists?” “Darn! Did I really think that? I’m going to forget I thought that. I have no need to go there.” It was all too raw, too close. The images were still vibrant in my head — those horrible images. “Nope, I didn’t think that. Not going there.” It was too late. The challenge had been set, and I knew it was a call from a higher part of me to transcend this horrendous situation. How does one go about forgiving something like that? What would forgiving terrorists look like? I couldn’t even imagine it. It certainly wasn’t condoning – I could never say that what they did was okay, nor did I feel that that was what I was being called to do. No, it was not okay. I also couldn’t entertain the idea of foregoing justice either. No way. Or forgetting. Nope. Couldn’t do that. But I didn’t want to harbor all those yucky feelings – that anger and resentment. I didn’t want to create that cancerous environment within. So what would true forgiveness look like for me? I decided that if I could truly wish them peace, then I would have released myself from the negativity of the situation. So, with them (and all the crazy images of the Twin

10

www.edgemagazine.net

Towers) in my mind, I said, “May you find peace.” Now, I realize I wasn’t nearly as affected as many others, so maybe this process was easier for me because of that. But it wasn’t easy. My first response was revulsion and nausea. It actually made me physically ill to wish them peace. But I kept repeating those words, and how I viewed them started to change. Rather than just evil, I saw them as people who had believed so fully in what others had told them that they couldn’t see what they were doing. I had the sense that they were pawns in a bigger game. Maybe they were brainwashed. Maybe they were so unhappy that they’d believe anything. I don’t know. I realized I really didn’t know anything. In those early days, there was only speculation about the connection with Bin Laden or Al Qaeda. I didn’t go there. I kept my focus on the terrorists we knew about, the ones who had crashed the planes. I kept repeating the words, “May you find peace.” After a full two hours, the physical reaction was gone and I felt that I meant what I was saying. What they did was still not okay. Justice needed to be served. The government would get involved and dole out its form of justice. But in the end, what I came to was that this was really between their souls and God. That was who they were accountable to now. I felt released from the situation, no longer chained to the emotional roller coaster of anger and resentment. As I watched the fields and prairies go by under a deep blue sky, I felt at peace. a Cheryl Kempton is a spiritual explorer, personal development junkie, chocoholic and St. Paul resident who believes so strongly in forgiveness as a path to healing and peace that she is sponsoring a weekend workshop on it with Azim Khamisa on May 17-19. Living awake Senderos de Luz, Paths of Light, sometimes involve our past by Efrén Francisco Solanas First of a three-part series I agree with the admonition an Israeli channel gave her study group, “Why waste your time with spiritual gossip and pastlife experiences?” I don’t waste energy trying to remember and revel in what occurred before. I want to be here, now, anchored in the sacred instant. It is a truth that transformation only occurs in present time. Besides, we’ve all been back and forth between the polarities innumerable times, first sadists then victims, leaders then followers, destitute and then royalty. Having said that, I share another truth: there are always exceptions! My past-life experiences in Peru are essential to grasping what is presently unfolding in my life and heart. In July 1999, I drove three hours north of my home in the San Francisco Bay Area to participate in an Amanae workshop to learn a technique purported to facilitate emotional release. I had no context for such a thing. I was irresistibly drawn to enroll after a strong emotion burst from my core during an evening demonstration of the work by the founder, Christine Day. I had never witnessed a deep feeling provoked by an act that seemed to have no relation to my emotional body. The torrent of tears had no label. The best I can do is to say that it was grief. By the second day of the workshop, we had become accustomed to sensing discomfort in a part of the body, and were beginning to have some skill in breathing into the area, bringing our consciousness to meet the pain and opening to the intention to feel what was being held. I was on a massage table, surrounded by other participants. There was an odd pain in my feet, as if they were disfigured or perhaps trapped in an uncomfortable position. The sensation grew to be almost unbearable. One of the assistants came and spoke to me, encouraging me to go deeper, to allow what was arising. I clung to her words and allowed myself to feel more. Suddenly, it was if my feet were on fire — literally burning. I began to writhe and scream. I sensed the assistant next to me, hearing her encouragement to open and to feel even more. In an instant, a vivid mountain landscape opened before me. I was tied to a tree and although I could not see my limbs, I knew that my hands and feet had been secured with a spike, driven through my flesh. I was in shocking pain, as a fire below, seared my skin. Before me, many individuals — beloveds to whom I felt a deep connection — were being shot, beaten and terribly gored. One of the attackers dragged a woman before me and my heart jumped. It was my wife! He brought a blade to her throat, and as I could not take my eyes away, I witnessed him draw the knife, cutting deeply and ending her life. I was overcome with profound failure and immense guilt. I was responsible for these people. They had relied on me, my judgment, and before me was the result of their trust. I was not being killed outright but forced to watch the barbaric torture and killing. The pain in my body slowly abated. I sat up on the massage table and quickly walked to the circle of chairs where our workshop sharing occurred. In the center was a Sacred Pipe. It called to me, “Pick me up.” I bowed my head, touching the carpet, guided by ancient traditions to which I was not initiated. I began to sob uncontrollably. Both hands approached the Pipe and I tenderly picked it up. Huge waves of sadness and tears Light continued on page 12  August 2013   the edge

11

 Light continued from page 11 flowed from me. Moans of agony burst from my throat. I was completely taken by the immensity of the feelings. A tiny speck swirled in this storm: a flash of gratitude that the wall had cracked and emotions were flowing. There was no sense of time. Eventually, I placed the Pipe back on its rocky base and returned to the massage table, prepared to continue receiving the bodywork. It took years for the details to come into full focus. Hundreds of years ago, I was a cacique or native chief in the Cordillera Andina, the mountain range of the Andes in South America. Many people relied on me. We knew the conquistadores were coming, and I made a decision that we should remain. The Spanish arrived and a massacre followed. The event is a scar on my soul; a wound that interpenetrates all subsequent lifetimes. After the workshop, I continued to live my life, avoiding the tendency to obsess over the revelation. I felt it was important to maintain a balance between awe for the power of the recollection and a full anchoring in the present. Acknowledging the past-life trauma helped me understand my attraction to native cultures and a deep longing for rich communication with the Divine realms. I also felt compassion for my fear of the spiritual and sacred community, as well as a peculiar resistance to realizing my role as a teacher and leader. It was nearly ten years before I was to take the next step on the Senderos de Luz, the Paths of Light. a Efrén Francisco Solanas is teacher and practitioner of Senderos de Luz, a combination of powerful multi-dimensional healing modalities. Activism on the Run

Changing the planet, one act at a time by Christine Huff

Are you concerned about the world these days? Planet-wide, humanity is on a destructive path in many ways: environmentally, economically, politically, health-wise, to name a few. There are many of us who see the destruction and wish we could change it. Or stop it. We complain, we volunteer, we boycott, we post on Facebook — whatever we can think of to make a difference. And we must do something — our planet needs us! Recently, though, I began to question all of my efforts. Years ago, I’d seen the movie The Secret about manifesting our true desires through focus of attention. Over time I’ve come to believe it is possible to do this. I re-watched the movie the other night, and again saw the examples of how we attract whatever we focus on. My attention was caught this time by the application to activism. The movie implied that protests against war, GMOs, economic issues, etc. bring about more of whatever we’re protesting against! That hadn’t occurred to me. Does that apply to my petition-signing and Facebook posts, too? How are we supposed to speak out against the wrongs of the world? What is an activist to do? Especially a motivated (and busy) one? The idea left me frustrated, and frankly, annoyed. “All these years, and all of my

effort — for what?” I grumbled. However, I knew there must be a solution. As I considered the options, ideas came to me: four steps we can take to manifest positive change. These steps are manageable to fit into the busiest of schedules, even for the most concerned of citizens who are worried about everything. Honest! Here are four solutions:  Identify the goal. Think about what you want changed. Feel free to aim high! Example: Ending world hunger.  Replace worry with visualization (and prayer). Worry is a result of us focusing on the problem, which just leads to more worry, and unfortunately, more of the problem. We’re better off putting our energy towards finding a solution. So if you start worrying or complaining about the issue, or see a troublesome news story, imagine the world the way you’d wish it (without that problem), and focus on that. Consider praying to a higher power for a solution. Ask this higher power for assistance in helping you shift your focus. Visualize the world as you’d like to see it, even if you can’t think of how that will be achieved. Example: Visualize or imagine a healthy food and water supply for all citizens of the world, and how wonderful that would be. Pray to be a part of the solution.  Identify an action. Think of an action you can take so you’re living in line with your beliefs. This way, we start to become part of the solution. Example: Donate to a local food shelf.  Integrate the action. Understand that a 1 percent change is all it takes to make a dent in even the largest challenges. So be honest and practical when choosing your first step, and be open to making additional changes as you have the energy to do so. This way, you will be a walking example of how to be in the world, becoming more in line with what you believe as the days progress. To bring about true change, we must walk our talk. Example: Find a food shelf in an area with meaning for you. Commit to making a donation three times a year. Adjust this as time passes. Oh, and don’t worry if you worry you’re making things worse by worrying. Just start over each time you catch yourself. While it is important not to dwell on the problem, it is important to be aware of the problems of the world. We must not bury our heads in the sand — we can’t solve problems we don’t know exist. Will you slip up along the way? You bet! It’s all part of the process of change. Nothing happens overnight. If you do your best, even with slip-ups, know that you really are making a difference. Take small steps, but do take steps. And be proud of what you’re doing! Our world won’t change without you. a

August Horoscope: Unwind Star Wisdom by D.K. Brainard

The Sun and Mercury in Leo bring us a well-deserved chance to unwind and focus on what feels good.

Flowers on Highway 36 by Heidi Parton

Driving along Highway 36 this morning, I pass fresh flowers stemming from a plasticbag vase filled with water and tied to a sign. I think I finally know why people do this Honoring. The last place where you know your lover or child or father was alive, must become sacred ground. We can all get trapped in a space. We stay too long and we get stuck and then we think we need permission before we can move on. Maybe a friend comes to us one morning with dried flowers embedded in a wreath of Styrofoam and he hangs it around our neck and tells us it is okay to cross over. Maybe our spirit hovers in a room for years and years. We can’t even remember where we were going. And some sensitive soul is tired of being weighed down by our pain and she burns a smudge of sage in a stone bowl, then uses a feather to urge us on to the next world that will greet us with open arms, but only when we finally let go. a Heidi Parton is a writer and yoga teacher, specializing in Yin and Restorative Yoga. Aries (Mar. 21-Apr. 19)…You’ve got to keep working on your mommy and daddy issues because you don’t want to waste this rare chance to heal the past and finally feel at home in the world. But be aware, too, of the powerful and growing desire for true freedom of self-expression. If you can marry those two parts of yourself, you can really rock your world this month. Taurus (Apr. 20-May 20)…This is a great month to hire a publicist. If you can’t afford one, create one within your own psyche. And put her or him to work getting out the good word about just how hard you work, what a beautiful vision you have, and just how good you are at what you do. Don’t boast — just tell the truth. Gemini (May 21-June 20)…Keep hammering on this money theme. How much do you really need to feel powerful, like you can realize the dream of your life? Be willing to look long and hard at the inner beliefs you inherited from mom or dad that keep stopping you from living a life of true abundance. It’s time to break that vicious cycle and live YOUR life. Cancer (June 21-July 22)…Even if things feel as intense this month as they have for the last couple years, something is different. You’re starting to realize that you have the power to change your life. These challenges aren’t here to break you down, they’re here to break you open — into the world, into your authentic self, into the life you long to live. Leo (July 23-Aug. 22)…A major insight reveals that who you are is so much more than the personality you built all those years ago to protect you and allow you to function. Make a conscious choice to step into your essence. Experiment. Play. Don’t settle for staying stuck in a limited identity that stopped working for you a long time ago. Freedom calls — answer the phone! Virgo (Aug. 23-Sept. 22)…“You can’t solve a problem with the same mind that created it,” said Dr. Wayne Dyer. Rather than running your mind through the same old loops, think magically. Keep a dream journal. Look for signs. Listen to the birds. Read tea leaves. The answers are there but, like an optical illusion, the pattern only emerges when you relax your focus. Libra (Sept. 23-Oct. 22)…Use the first half of the month to get clear on what you want. Because once Venus moves into your sign on the 16th, opportunity knocks. You may have to choose quickly and not everyone may be happy with your choices, but if they really care for you,

they’ll get over it. It’s your life — don’t let anyone dissuade you from living it to the fullest.

Scorpio (Oct. 23-Nov. 21)…A new conception of who you CAN be in the world is dawning this month, but you have to be willing to give up some old ideas about who you are SUPPOSED to be. It’s safe to say this requires as much courage as anything you will be asked to do in this life. Fortunately, courage is not something you lack. Sagittarius (Nov. 22-Dec. 21)…If you owe it and you can’t pay it, make arrangements. If they owe you and you can’t get it out of them, find a way to make your peace with it. There’s plenty of money and plenty of energy in the world, and the world wants you to have your share. But it can’t make delivery to you when your energy is tied up in contracts from the past. Capricorn (Dec. 22-Jan. 19)…What do you need to see, feel or understand in order to truly love yourself? Find the places within you that you turn away or withdraw from: this is where your self-love got lost. A beautiful relationship is just waiting for you to learn to love yourself enough to believe you deserve it. Aquarius (Jan. 20-Feb. 18)…With a second straight full moon in your sign this month, you get a rare opportunity to see yourself from not just one, but several different vantage points. Look at this as the Universe’s way of saying, “See how cool you are? What would it take for you to truly accept and value your uniqueness?” Come out of exile and let us adore you! Pisces (Feb. 19-Mar. 20)…Find a creative guru this month. I choose William Blake, a craftsman and polymath who put his heart and soul into creating every day, whether he was working for pay or on his own unique vision. With Jupiter the Guru in your house of self-expression, this is the time for you to finally unchain your own creative genius. a gluten-free, dairy-free whole food recipe

Summer Vegetable Soup by Maggie Christopher This soup marries the flavors of summer’s best vegetables. The bacon adds a lovely rich flavor while the corn adds sweetness. In summer, I prefer my soup heated to just warm. This is an excellent recipe for those with compromised digestive systems, because cooked vegetables are easier to digest. Add a can of beans if you prefer a vegetarian soup. Ingredients: 4 boneless, skinless chicken thighs 3 pcs of cooked bacon, plus drippings 2 TBS olive oil 1 large onion, diced 4-6 cloves of garlic, minced 2 large carrots, cut into rounds 2 ribs celery, diced 1 red bell pepper, diced 1 zucchini, diced 1 summer squash, diced Handful of green beans, cut bite-sized 3 cups sweet corn, fresh or frozen 3/4 pound yellow potatoes, skins on and diced 7-8 cups vegetable broth, or to desired thickness 1/8 cup loosely packed, fresh thyme or oregano 1 teaspoon sea salt Adjust salt, pepper and thyme (or oregano) to taste

Directions: Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Rinse chicken and pat dry. Sprinkle sea salt, pepper and fresh thyme (or oregano) on both sides. Cover with aluminum foil and bake about 35-40 minutes or until juices run clear. In a large soup pot, heat the bacon on medium high until crispy. Chop bacon and return to pan. Add 2 TBS olive oil. Add all vegetables (except the potatoes, green beans and corn) and sauté on medium until just beginning to soften. Then add the vegetable broth, potatoes, green beans and corn. Once vegetables are tender, blend about 4 cups of the soup into a chunky broth. Return broth to the soup. Cut or shred the cooked chicken, add to soup. Let soup rest for an hour or two before serving or cover and refrigerate overnight. Serves 12. a Maggie Christopher, CHNC, is a certified holistic nutrition counselor in St. Paul. The New Dawning

Bridging the gap between our Human and Divine Selves by Tim Miejan Edited for print, so please read the complete interview at edgemagazine.net The introduction of spiritual teacher, healer and channeler Christine Day’s new book, Pleiadian Principles for Living, offers this directly from the galactic community known as the Pleiadians: “There is a great power birthing and rising in your world, opening for you a new perception that is taking you in a new direction…. We are here to assist you in bringing information so that you gain a deeper understanding of the process that is taking place on your earth plane.… As you awaken you will assist in a continual birthing process on your earth plane by holding energetic spaces, creating energetic grids, and helping anchor new light frequencies onto the earth plane…. Your world within planet Earth is moving back into alignment with the rest of the Universe. This is like a curtain lifting on a stage, revealing an entirely new panorama.… This expanded communion will be beyond anything that you can imagine with your ego mind. It will be a communion through the heart and will bring a birthing of a simple and powerful joy that will transform all cells within your being.” In her new book, the basis of which will set the stage for a three-day Pleiadian seminar in October in Minneapolis, Christine Day tells us that the Earth and its inhabitants are undergoing a transformational shift from the third dimension to the fourth and fifth, a shift from an ego-driven existence to one that is innately intuitive and driven from the heart. In a recent telephone interview, Christine Day says the collective energy of the earthly realm is going through a “very deep birthing process,” a metamorphosis that includes the anchoring of a new crystalline structure

happening in the physical body, and a lot of them. One of the areas the crystalline structure went into was the thyroid, so people may be experiencing some what was presenting as thyroid problems, confusion, kind of feeling like they can’t think straight, wondering if there is anything wrong with them. The fact is, we are being realigned into a fourth- and fifth-dimensional setting and the crystalline structure within us is aligning us and supporting us in that alignment. That’s what is creating these feelings, these physiological changes in the body, feeling confused, just somehow not being able to quite be as on as they were in the third-dimensional setting, which is kind of melting away. Some of the crystalline structures actually anchored in the brain and are opening the telepathic center. Some people aren’t aware they’re experiencing this disorientation and confusion…so there can be a lot of anxiety being produced through that at this time. in the human body that will reactivate our telepathic abilities and allow us to become beings of light. “You almost might see it like a new sunrise,” she says, “a new essence of life coming onto the Earth plane and also coming through the soul.” For those who are not conscious of change taking place within themselves, what might some inner or outward evidence be that things are no longer the way they were? Christine Day: Because of the crystalline

structure that is activated through the cells of their body — and they did come in to every human being on this Earth plane — there are certain physiological changes

Are the people who experience your initiations and activations and the work that you do showing the way and helping to make the whole process easier for the people who don’t? CD: Absolutely, and that’s how it’s been

designed. That is part of the grand plan. There are a number of us who have made pre-agreements before we came onto this Earth place to act as the wayshowers, to go on to this accelerated awakening path and move much more quickly into that fourth- and fifth-dimensional alignment before the rest of the population does. Those that forge the path make it easier for those who are following, that’s true, but it’s not only that. It is also to support and stabilize the dimensional settings that

It has taken those of us who are leading and making the way, forging the path, a lot longer, but that was also part of our pre-agreement, to have that long-term process of awakening. The ones who follow will move very fast through it, and then we will have a different community here on this Earth plane. ~ Christine Day 16

are coming onto the physical Earth plane. Your new book, Pleiadian Principles for Living, seems like it’s asking us as individual selves to make a commitment, to make a conscious choice. What are we being asked to choose? CD: We are being asked to choose what we

pre-agreed to do at this time, to choose our mission that we pre-agreed to complete at this time. This is the time to move into our pre-agreement missions, to align to those energies and play our part, because that’s what we said we would do. So the book is putting that call out and reminding those people. Even if you have forgotten what the actual pre-agreement was, what the mission was, it doesn’t matter. It’s about claiming that conscious choice and just calling forth the activation of the pre-agreement alliances that you have made for these energies to come now to support you in completing your mission and playing your full role. This is about each one of us fulfilling what we chose to do and fulfilling part of our destiny. So, this is very much a reminder for people to come and reconnect. What I like about this process is that there are 27 audio files attached to the book for people to start working with the processes that bring them into realignment to their mission, to remembering. It is an incredible book of support and empowerment. It’s amazing!

In the introduction of your book you call the series of initiations that are being offered a natural realignment with your self. Why is a realignment important right now? CD: We came here to have a human

experience on this Earth plane, and we need to continue that, our human experience. Right now we’re being called also to change the relationship we have with our self, and that means to bring ourselves into a new alignment of the sacred relationship to our humanness, to honor that part of our human self. By honoring that, we become even more powerful as human beings on this Earth plane. You see, it’s not about getting rid of our humanness. It’s more to realign, to come into alignment with the human element of our selves. In our human self, we can take a conscious step forward and become even more powerful and more potent here on this Earth plane. The Pleiadians say that our potency as humans can grow as we consciously come back into that alignment of love and compassion for ourselves, to understand that imperfection of being human. Through that understanding of our human vulnerability, we resurrect ourselves to a new level within our human aspect, and we bridge the gap between our humanness and our Divine Selves. The Pleiadians say that as we bridge that gap between the human aspect and the

…The Pleiadians say that as we bridge that gap between the human aspect and the beauty of our full selves, then the work we do here becomes much more vibrant, much more worthwhile.

beauty of our full selves, then the work we do here becomes much more vibrant, much more worthwhile. It actually makes a huge difference on our planet. Now, the Pleiadians, and all the other spiritual beings, can come and do things here, but when we do it ourselves through conscious choice, through the awakening of our humanness and remembering, it becomes a much more powerful force. That’s why the book is here now, to bridge the gap between our human relationship to ourselves and the light of ourselves. I just finished redesigning the website for our magazine, and in the process I’m finding that new design in the internet and the digital realm is seeking to become more fluid. Perhaps this realignment of ourselves, by bridging the gap with our human and Divine selves, is going through this same process. It will become more fluid, more telepathic, more intuitive. Is that the way you see it? CD: It’s absolutely that. These energies

are where the rest of the universe has been operating from, and now these living principles — elements of truth and awakening, of remembering — are coming into the Earth plane because the veil has lifted. We have been given an element of the essence of these living principles that is going to accelerate the bridging of this gap, which is creating the fluidity. It’s melting away that really tight, hard edge of third-dimensional illusion and the fear and struggle, and it’s opening up to what the Pleiadians very often refer to as the New Dawning. It’s bringing in these shafts of light onto the Earth plane for us to remember and suddenly just know that we are a part of something much greater than this very constrained third-dimensional reality that we’ve been living in. It allows us to realign to the energetic alliances that are here for us to help us in this transition time. You see, we’re not supposed to do this transition alone. Each one of us has an

energetic team that is here to take us and help us move forward, to align us to a mission, to help us in our destiny calls. So, we need to reach out and open to this energetic team and the living principle of energy that is creating this essence, an essence of love, to assist us in evolving at a very fast rate. The activations presented in the book Pleiadian Principles for Living utilize sound, thought, movement, and symbols or codes. Can you kind of describe what people will go through when they go through the book and work on these activations? CD: There are many different ones in

this book. We have what we call code forms, sacred designs that you bring your consciousness to and begin to transmit the sacred sound. Through these, you begin to receive a level of awakening codes that responds to your unique frequency of sound. These awakened codes are within you and allow you to begin to remember, to begin to align. The cells of the body begin to go through a rejuvenation or regeneration process so the body is better able to hold higher frequencies of your own light, so you begin to be able to carry more of that frequency. We also work with the crop circles and the sacred matrix energy. When you go into the crop circles and align to the matrix, it actually transmits and opens up a level of your own personal blueprint energy. That allows you to be able to access information and knowledge that you need now in this lifetime for your own awakening process. And then we have the activations of the crystalline structure and the telepathic center. This was given a really big focus in the book, because we need to return back to telepathic communion to be able to respond and communicate with the rest of the universe. That is how the rest of the universe aligns and communicates. There is a very strong energy in the book to activate first the crystalline structure in the brain, and then teach you, step-by-step, how to communicate telepathically with the galactic energies and the Pleiadians and the spiritual realms. And then we have the connection to the natural forces of the Earth. The Earth energy has changed. Its role is changing along with ours, since it’s here to support us in the integration of our transformation of this light and the crystalline structure. Part of the book explains how to commune naturally with the natural forces and open up that sacred communion using sacred hand positions, mudras. They open up dimensional settings and allow you to start aligning and communicating with the natural forces of the Earth and really harness that energy and utilize it for integration, for communication, and communion with the Dawning continued on page 18  August 2013   the edge

 Dawning continued from page 17 spiritual energies, with the essence of the natural forces. This is part of our enlightenment process, too. It’s about ending the separation with the natural forces and forming an alliance with them as part of our enlightenment process. So with the information in this book, the Pleiadians have created these incredible opportunities for us to move extremely fast into realigning back to our selves through all these methods. It’s an exceptional handbook that assists us in navigating through the changing times. It helps us to understand what’s taking place, that we have pre-agreed to be here at this time and the importance of each one of us who are ready to stand up and take our place and walk forward. All of the tools are given to us, and they’re sacred tools. Some people on the spiritual path have a goal of enlightenment. What do the Pleiadians say that that truly means? CD: Their meaning of that is that we recognize

our humanness, we recognize the power of our human connection, and we realign and reestablish this different relationship with ourselves, with love and compassion and understanding. In our imperfection, we accept that imperfection and we bridge the gap between our humanness and our light, our own connection. That is what we are here to achieve. That is our enlightenment to this lifetime. It’s about ending that separation within ourselves by accepting our imperfections and love and compassion for all that we are and what we have come to do on a human level. You only have to come into moments of that, and then it changes the cells in our body and we move very quickly into that enlightenment process. In this third dimension, we think we have to be perfect in order to become enlightened. It’s actually quite the opposite. We have to accept that imperfection of our humanness and end that self-condemnation. I just love the information that the Pleiadians bring to really empower us back to a place of this ending of separation within ourselves.

Do they give any kind of a guideline on how long this whole process will take to mature? CD: They’re saying to me that for those of us

who are on the spiritual path and are working consciously, within the next 10 years this process will be complete in those of us who are awake now, and then the rest will follow. There is going to be a time when the third dimension actually will leave this planet. When that actually melts away, all of the human beings who already have that crystalline structure in place so that they can actually cope with that energy when it happens will go through a very rapid process of awakening. When the third dimension — that illusion that holds people in this place of not knowing — lifts, when that melts away, then they will virtually come into an understanding and self-resurrection in a very fast time. It has taken those of us who are leading and

18

www.edgemagazine.net

making the way, forging the path, a lot longer, but that was also part of our pre-agreement, to have that long-term process of awakening. The ones who follow will move very fast through it, and then we will have a different community here on this Earth plane. The Pleiadians say that those who are not willing to let go of power and control and violence will take their next step off the Earth plane — they will not stay here — and they will go to another place where they will continue to have their own experience within what they hold tight to right now, but that’s not the majority of people here. The majority of people are not into that power and control, and they will be here and we will live in a very different state of consciousness. How will your event in October assist those who are actively going through this process? CD: It’s designed to take specific individuals back

to the sacred alignments that they are ready to receive, not only within themselves, but with the galactic community, with the Pleiadians, with the Lemurians. There are going to be a series of what the Pleiadians call “dimensional arcs.” People will sit in these arcs and align to these multidimensional vehicles, and they will be able to move where they need to within the universal connections — and they will be able to have some very deep and powerful reawakenings. This is very different from any other Pleiadian seminar that we’ve done. It’s going to create tremendous opportunity for people to open through the veils and really be able to align in a whole new clarity and way within the universal community — and to their own energy. I see it as really life changing for people who feel drawn to come. Everyone has different journeys, different supports necessary in these programs, and we have the assistance there to support everybody to have their own individual journeys within the collective journey. I just know it’s going to be incredibly profound and powerful.

Thank you for your conversation with us. Is there anything you’d like to add that we have not talked about? CD: The only thing I would say is the call is out

for all of us now to move, to step forward, for the people to remember that they said yes to this time, to this journey. It’s so important for people to understand that they are not alone in this journey, and that for the success of their journey they need to open up and give permission for the life force groups to come in and support them at this time. It is the time for us to step forward and to start saying yes to what we pre-agreed to do on the Earth plane during this very amazing time. a

Managing the fear of alien abduction Hypnotic regression, other tools help to lessen the unexplained anxiety

point her memory blanks out. Jane wanted to undergo hypnosis to explore the experiences but before we could begin she needed to feel safe from “Them.” Clearly, some kind of fear management was required, both to resolve the fear issues in her daily life and to allow hypnotic regression work.

by Craig R. Lang Second of a four-part series

I love the sky, deep blue by day, black and infinite by night. To me, the sky is a source of wonder and inspiration. Yet, to many the sky is a source of fear, the domain of alien visitors. While some see close encounters as a wondrous contact with the stars, others experience it as the curse of alien abduction — intrusive, unearthly terror. Last month in the first part of this series, we introduced the alien abduction phenomenon. To summarize, it involves the experiencer being taken against their will by beings from another world. Most often, it occurs late at night. The experiencer awakens, unable to move. Four or five beings appear around the bed, each about three feet tall with large black eyes and a diminutive, featureless face. The person experiences stark terror as the beings float him/her out of the bed, directly through a solid wall or closed window and into a waiting UFO. At this point, if not before, the experiencer’s memory usually blanks out. They awaken in the morning, sensing something had occurred during the night, but with no recall of the event.

A case in point was a recent hypnosis session with an experiencer I will refer to as “Jane,” who represents a composite of similar cases sufficient to illustrate the phenomenon. Jane had had several recent close UFO sightings, as well as vague memories of visits from strange beings. She had nightmares, general anxiety and unexplained fear of the dark. Jane awoke to see a bright light shining in through the bedroom window. She had not recalled lights there before. Curious, she decided to get up and investigate — but when trying to get out of bed, she found she was unable to move. Fear instantly hit her as she saw several small beings appear through the solid wall and take their places around the bed. At that

A Safe Place One technique I use to reduce fear is to have the person picture a safe place. This could be some safe time and place in the past or it could be something from their imagination. For those with a strong metaphysical background, spiritual figures such as God, Jesus, the Universe, protecting guides, etc., can bring strength and security. I then invite the experiencer to view the events through a TV screen or something similar, to see the events while remaining safe. In Jane’s case, we were able to create a comfortable room with a TV where she could observe her alien encounter. Another case, which I describe in my book, The Cosmic Bridge, involved an experiencer I call “Evelyn.” One hair-raising encounter occurred in northwestern Wisconsin over ten years ago in which she consciously recalled alien beings floating her out of her bed. From that moment on, she felt consumed with fear, frightened even of being alone in the house at night. Another investigator and I interviewed her at length. The fear was clearly evident in her face. Later, when we began to do hypnotic regression, the terror emerged full force, locking her up in fear. The expression on her face literally raised the hair on the back of my neck. Evelyn’s fear response was far too intense to manage just by using the safe place technique I described above. Stronger fear reduction was needed, to find and heal the source of the fear. Often, this can be done using a hypnotherapy

technique called parts therapy. This technique uses the idea that the mind is like a quiltwork of different thought complexes or sub-personalities called “parts.” In a typical person, all parts integrate together into a seamless whole. Yet, parts can also have conflicting motivations and actions, something each of us would experience as indecision, uncertainty or inner conflict. With a person in hypnotic trance, the hypnotist can address parts individually, almost like individuals. In this case, with Evelyn deep in hypnosis, I was able to speak with the part responsible for the “protection” she was experiencing. I asked what its origin was. It told me it came from early childhood. Evelyn’s family had a long history of paranormal abilities. During her early childhood, to discourage Evelyn from this same path, the minister of her church told her anything unexplained was of the devil. This germ of fear took its place in her subconscious to surface many years later around her alien abduction. This part now “protected” her by triggering fear at any reference to UFOs or alien encounters. Spiritual Explorer Still, Evelyn wanted to understand her experiences. Thus, in addition to the fear/protector part, I was able to find this “spiritual explorer” part within her mind. Fostering a dialogue between the two parts, we were able to strike a deal. As long as other aspects of her life remained normal, her “protector” would allow her to visit her unexplained experiences. Now she could explore her encounters with much less fear. At this, she recounted events typical of most alien abductions, but more importantly, she was able to live without her ever-present fear. I have seen many others encounter this same weight of fear and using this type of healing work, we have been able to resolve the fear and explore their experiences. a Next month: Details of UFO abduction and exploring its purpose. Befriending the body, with your total respect Evolutionary Pagan by Briana Crusan

As a massage practitioner and energy healer, people come to me with all sorts of complaints, from muscle spasms to autoimmune syndromes to high anxiety. While there are thousands of different conditions, it seems that no matter what the complaint is, the way it is described is the same: my body is betraying me, I need new parts, fix me. I am often struck by the mentality of therapy as equivalent to visiting a mechanic. I’ve also noticed how the suffering I have experienced in my own life reflects the suffering I see in others. I have begun to think that at the core of it, we suffer from the same condition. That condition is a frame of mind that views the body as an inferior mechanical device we steer through the journey of life. As a society, we focus on the mind, ideas, mechanization, and specialization of technology. More and more of our lives are lived from a cerebral head space as we lose touch with the visceral experience. We are wandering around in our heads in a constant state of distraction, multi-tasking, over-achieving, thinking in digital — unable to discern the analog messages behind our illnesses. Put another way, many of us are in denial about the consequences of our actions. The way we live our lives and the affect it has on our bodies is often couched in terms of body image and weight loss. Obesity is viewed as the new plague. As we focus more and more on the external image of ourselves, more and more people are suffering from increased intolerance to certain foods, irritable bowel, liver and gallstones, heart burn, inflammation, cancer, morbid obesity and general dysfunction. Often by the time someone has reached my table, they know something is wrong but are at their wits end about how to fix it. But with the way we neglect and abuse our body, is it any wonder why it suddenly turns on us, betrays our trust, or refuses to perform in the way we want it to? It rebels or breaks, it corrodes and fades. It develops

diseases and wears its condition on our faces. In this way our bodies do become our worst enemy. I would like to propose that because we have placed the body in an inferior category to the mind, we view its messages as an attack on our lifestyles rather than an honest attempt at communication. Getting angry at your body for its pain is the equivalent of beating your dog for barking at an intruder. The irony is that we understand more about the language of dogs than we do of our own internal process. I firmly believe that before we can embark on a true journey towards better health, we must first confront our own negative projections towards our body and learn how to befriend it. The body is not an enemy that we must beat into submission. In reality, it’s our greatest supporter and ally. It speaks to us in the way of dreams, feelings and gut reactions. Sickness and disease are not an attack, but a cry for help and healing. It is an entity equal to the mind that you exist in a symbiotic relationship with, complete with its own consciousness and wisdom. What do you think would happen if we looked at exercise, nutrition, meditation and self-care as acts of bodily respect rather than abstract chores designed to control or punish? What if we looked at our hedonistic behaviors of over-indulgence as a sideways attempt to be nurtured rather than bad habits we need to overcome? What if we made choices based on how good something will make us feel instead of how good it will make us look? The language of the body is simple. That which is good for it makes it stronger, that which is not good makes it weaker. The more you pay attention to its signals, and make choices based on doing what makes you feel healthy, the more you can rely on the friend you didn’t know you had. a Briana Crusan is a second generation pagan, new age spiritualist, massage therapist, energy healer and poet. Choose a healing practitioner using your inner wisdom by Leah Skurdal

The abundance and variety of alternative healing modalities and practitioners offer a sometimes mindboggling smorgasbord of options. Reiki, TuiNa, Brain Gym, acupuncture and Intuitive Massage might all sound interesting, but what do you start with? Rather than getting bogged down by too many choices, ask your Internal Guidance System — your inner wisdom — to guide you toward the practitioner best suited to you at this time. Human consciousness is gradually shifting away from relying on external authority and toward our own internal spiritual authority, which I call your internal guidance system or inner wisdom. As we set our internal compass to our soul’s higher purpose, we can hear, feel and experience our innate inner wisdom more clearly. Align with your soul and your higher purpose by setting your intention to do so. Then, periodically check your course with your intention to stay on track with your soul. Choosing a healer When you are looking for a healing center and a healing practitioner to help you stay aligned and on track, check in with your Internal Guidance System for directions:  Start by stopping. Pause. Take a couple belly breaths. Imagine a space behind your heart and in front of your spine where your soul connects to your small self. Where you feel connected to your soul in your body might be somewhere different for you.

…align with your soul and your higher purpose by setting your intention to do so. Then periodically check your course with your intention to stay on track with your soul.” Listen and trust your own guidance. The space behind your heart might be a good place to start.  Breathe into that space. Ask that the wise part of yourself inform you of the next right step. Or ask which healer has something to offer you. You may or may not have clarity right away. Pay attention to your urges and leanings. Look at a practitioner listing. What name or modality catches your attention?  Engage your left brain. Do some research. What is TuiNa, anyway? What is taught in this Intuitive Development class? Do I know someone who has experienced this practitioner’s work before?  Let go and trust. If you get an intuitive hit, try something new even if it doesn’t make sense to your mind. I registered

late for a conference and did not get my first, second or third choices of workshops. Instead I ended up in my last possible choice — a creative movement class. What I learned in that class became a turning point in my life. Out of my surrendering to the higher flow, I developed my own style of creative movement — Body Soul Movement — which I now offer as part of my Intuitive Development class series.  Evaluate. After your healing sessions, notice how you feel. Do you feel more connected to your own wisdom, less stressed and better able to cope? Does it feel like the right path or is it time to try something else? Your internal guidance system will guide you to your next right expert if you ask, listen and take action. A profile of the Magus Healing Center in THE heart of dinkytown by Rachel Anderson

Magus Books & Herbs may not seem like a holistic healing center on the outside, but one of the best kept secrets of Magus is the Magus Healing Center. A group of traditional and natural health practitioners provide holistic healthcare to our customers with crafts that include Herbalism, Reiki, Cranio-Sacral Massage and Acupuncture, among other modalities. In the back of Magus is a room devoted completely to the art of healing. It is staffed by three healers with a similar goal in mind: to provide a spiritual and physical transcendence for you, the client. With a wide variety of knowledge, they are able to provide the best service and prescription for clients and help them choose the healing that works to the greatest good for their body. They have treated many a Magus customer to a fully relaxing and spiritually fulfilling massage, helped a mother to bring a healthy baby to term, and even relieved horrible cases of allergies. The Magus healing team has three members — Liz Johnson, Mela Amara, and Anthony VanWagner. Each of them have their own journey that has brought them to the arts of holistic healing, but at Magus they have found a home and have been serving clients for years.  Liz Johnson is the Herbalist at Magus Books and Herbs. A profile of Total Health & Healing Center in coon rapids For the staff at Total Health & Healing Center in Coon Rapids, a holistic healing center is a clinic that provides caring, individualized treatments for each patient, using whatever works best for the issues at hand. It involves determining where the blockages to healing are and finding the most appropriate treatment or combination of treatments to relieve them. A holistic center offers many natural treatments in one location. It’s not interested in putting Band-aids on symptoms but determining the real cause and the appropriate treatments. A holistic healing center also educates patients/clients in what true health and healing means in everyday life. A holistic healing clinic can be an alternative to conventional medicine and provide a second opinion. Often a patient is desperate for other options but doesn’t know where to look. They don’t know what they need for healing. A healing center should be able to assist them with information and suggestions for a start on their healing path. At Total Health & Healing Center, three practitioners offer different techniques, modalities and talents. What they share is the same focus on the patients’ health, healing and well-being. They work together to create a combined healing energy field and provide a different set of eyes, ears and thoughts on the care of clients. What should someone consider when choosing a holistic healing clinic? The Total Health & Healing staff believes you should look for practitioners who are honest, sincere and without a big ego. A good practitioner must have the patient’s healing as the top

Reiki, Cupping, Moxibustion, Flower Essences and Aromatherapy.  Mela Amara is the Massage Therapist at Magus Books and Herbs, offering a unique experience with Cranio-Sacral Shiatsu and Integrative Intuitive massage. Both forms offer a transcendent experience in helping you tune deeply into your body, emotions and spirit. Cranio-Sacral Shiatsu is modestly performed through loose, comfortable clothing. Integrative Intuitive Massage is a combination of multiple massage modalities.  Anthony VanWagner is the Acupuncturist and Chinese Herbalist at Magus Books & Herbs. He offers 90-minute sessions that can include Fire Cupping, Moxibustion, Herbal Consultations, and Tui Na. His practice specializes in sports injury, allergies, fibromyalgia, anxiety, depression and insomnia. Liz, Mela and Anthony have spent many years treating and being the communicator between a client’s mind and body, even going so far as to keep their minds sharp by continuing their studies in their chosen fields. Not only do they provide their services to the customers, but the Magus team offers knowledge to its customers. They provide classes that can enlighten you on a specific subject, or start you down the road of becoming a healer yourself. By offering classes and the Magus Healing Center, Magus Books invokes thought and spirituality, granting the community with skill and knowledge of the human body and its well-being. a Magus Books & Herbs is located at 1309 1/2 4th St. SE in Dinkytown, Minneapolis. Words of wisdom by Nadine Penny

Celebrate your friends this International Friendship Day month and let them know you care! Lunch together, brunch together, walk, talk and share together. Our friends love, support and understand us. They put the twinkle in our eye, the laughter on our lips and the courage in our heart to meet new people, visit different places and try new hobbies. Friends are also good for our health! In a recent study, it was found that people who had the most friends over a nine-year period cut their risk of death by more than 60 percent. So grab that soul sister (or brother) of yours and enjoy a month full of heart, mind and kindred spirit! a Nadine Penny attained her M.A. from the University of Denver in Counseling Psychology.
