The Awakening of Humanity LYNNE GIRDLESTONE TODAY WE ARE all experiencing one or more of the negative effects of an incredibly destructive “agent of change.” Truth be told, horrific things happen every day on this planet, but they usually affect other people in other places. COVID-19, on the other hand, has the potential to reach anyone, anywhere, and our lives have been upended in a multitude of ways. The obvious questions — how do we stop this virus, how can we protect ourselves from a resurgence, will we be able to resurrect the global economy, what happens if our jobs can’t be restored — are all unknowns. They occupy our thoughts and emotions daily, hourly, with every newscast or twitter feed. For some, the crisis is merely an inconvenient interruption of “business as usual.” For some, it has increased their already staggering profits or created new ways to capitalize at the expense of others. But for most of the other billions of people on the planet, it is a radically amplified survival issue. From both scientific and spiritual perspectives, we know that nothing happens by chance: “For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction” and “As you sow, so shall you reap.” What is happening today has its roots in everything that has gone before, and when the tension reaches a tipping point, something extraordinary happens to get our attention. This pandemic may be shouting “Stop! Now! Look at the world you have built with untold suffering amidst obscene excess! All life forms and the planet itself are in mortal danger!” The winding down and isolation are giving us the opportunity to think about these issues deeply and come out of it with a better Plan B. That so many people are BY

actually getting the message is an incredibly hopeful sign. Neighbors are helping with each other’s daily needs; service organizations are expanding their roles and methods to accommodate a rapidly increasing clientele; scientific organizations around the world are sharing their findings in an effort to develop both treatments and vaccines; and governments are trying to lift the financial burden of their citizens. What would happen if this behavior were to continue after the coronavirus is subdued? Could it not eventually lead to treating a recovering planet as a “global village” and its citizens as the one human family it truly is? It would take time, but it has to start with the recognition of our interdependence and demanding of our leaders that we all push the reset button and begin to move in this direction! Fortunately at this very time, a little-known cosmic event is also taking place. As we move into the beginning of the Aquarian age, characterized by energies of synthesis, unity and cooperation, the spiritual custodians of human evolution — the Masters of Wisdom — have once again sent one of their great ones into the world to act as a teacher for the coming time. Some of the past teachers we have known historically were Confucius, Krishna, Buddha, Jesus and Mohammed. Major world religions all expect another great teacher at some future time, and his imminent appearance has been foreseen by some writers since the late 1800s. For more than 40 years, British esotericist and lecturer Benjamin Creme informed the world of a coming change, of the collapse of our old structures to make way for the new. He served as a herald for the World Teacher for this ➤ see AWAKENING on p. 8 AUGUST 2020 THE EDGE

It’s Time to Be Kind Again From the Editor BY TIM MIEJAN EVEN BEFORE DONALD J. TRUMP was sworn in as the 45th president of the United States, we knew we weren’t getting a kinder and gentler man in the Oval Office. In 2011, when announcing that he may eventually run for president, Trump launched the birther conspiracy, questioning whether President Obama had even been born in the United States. Trump demanded that Obama release his college transcript to prove he wasn’t a “terrible student.” Most of us rolled our eyes, knowing this conspiracy wasn’t going to get any traction. But then, during a rally in South Carolina in July 2016, Trump revealed that personal attacks weren’t reserved for politicians. It was then that he mocked the physical appearance of disabled Washington Post reporter Serge Kovaleski, who pointed out a lie the candidate shared on the campaign stump. So it wasn’t surprising that this real estate tycoon — with no governing experience at any level — made his campaign THE EDGE MAGAZINE 763.433.9291 P.O. Box 664, Anoka, MN 55303 www.edgemagazine.net PUBLISHERS TIM MIEJAN & CATHY JACOBSEN

about ending political correctness. Remember what that is? It’s going out of your way to not mock people who are disabled, to not further disenfranchise minorities, to not insult people who are social disadvantaged or discriminated against. It’s basic kindness, the kind taught in Sunday School. “…This political correctness is just absolutely killing us as a country,” Trump said on “Meet the Press” in August 2015. “You can’t say anything. Anything you say today, they’ll find a reason why it’s not good.” And the rest is history. President Trump, whether he knows it or not, whether he cares or not, has spent the last three and a half years as the poster child for the Ugly American, the stereotype of the American abroad who is rude, demanding and culturally insensitive. And by making political correctness a target, he seemed to have succeeded at giving his followers free license to unleash their anger and hate and vile attacks upon fellow citizens — without repercussion — just like he does.

Who can forget the hundred white nationalists who carried torches in Charlottesville, chanting “blood and soil,” a Nazi slogan about ethnicity being based on blood descent and the territory you control? Just in the past three months we’ve seen grown men and women throw tantrums on camera, screaming and waving guns around, just because they don’t want to be told to wear masks. Many of our fellow Americans are no longer even pretending to use their conscience to make decisions. Perhaps they believe that when the commander in chief revoked political correctness, they were given permission to be unkind. Perhaps in light of the cataclysmic drama unfolding before us, in all sectors of public and personal life, they feel justified to do as they please. After all, in a disaster it’s every man for himself. Perhaps by now some of us may have become tone deaf to the president’s spitefulness. It’s expected, so we turn down the volume or fast forward or just stew in our own disgust as we watch him attack, attack and attack some more. We’ve been witnessing an escalating unkindness displayed by his political allies and supporters across the country toward anyone who questions the president — especially the media, which serves as a checks-and-balance to preserve fairness in all levels of government. The media is not an enemy of the state. People who oppose Trump’s agenda are not enemies of the state. What is true is that this “us-versusthem” thinking does not move America forward. It’s time to take a stand against the corruption of public morals. Let’s reinstill kindness, decency and, yes, political correctness, back into the heart of America. I believe the foundation of our nation is a consciousness that is kind, that is fair, that is welcoming to all. a TIM MIEJAN is editor & co-publisher of The Edge magazine. Gratitude Changes Your Life “If the only prayer you said was thank you, that would be enough.” — Meister Eckhart “When I started counting my blessings, my whole life turned around.” — Willie Nelson BY WENDY BROWN-BAEZ An excerpt from the forthcoming book Spiritual Practices to Deepen Your Creative Life

THESE QUOTES ARE bookends to a discovery that can change our lives. By practicing gratitude, we can literally change the neural pathways of our brains. Studies show that if we write down three things we feel grateful for, it not only lifts our spirits but impacts how others relate to us. Interestingly enough, research found that this practice works well for 21 days, then it is best to take a break. When I was going through intense grief, I wrote down three blessings each night. These might be clean sheets, a call from a friend, a good meal, a beautiful sunset, a cool breeze. I listed my blessings in a datebook faithfully, despite any resistance. After several months, I flipped back through them and realized that it had not been all bleak, there was light in the darkness. This gave me a shift in perspective and the strength to keep moving. Gratitude comes effortlessly when things are going well, but when things are difficult, when we feel disheartened, when we are struggling with failure, grief, loneliness, illness, or when we face injustice or extreme poverty, it is hard to conjure up gratitude. Nevertheless, if we stick to the simplicity of a few practices, gratitude can change our lives. One practice is to always add a blessing

or to say thanks whenever something happens that is positive, whether it is a beautiful sunset or money to pay the bills. After expressing my thanks, I add, “more please.” Asking to receive more good after expressing thanks is visionary, openhearted and receptive. This gives our gratitude energy to expand, to offer up a “yes.” Another gratitude practice is to say, “Thank you for the good I know is coming to me.” This affirms that good is coming and makes us more open to greater possibilities. A much more difficult practice is to express gratitude when we are in crisis. To admit that we don’t understand, we don’t like it, and we wish it wasn’t happening but to express gratitude comes out of a firm and well-established practice. Maybe it is gratitude for our life, for those who reach out to us, for the beauty of the natural world, for good memories, or for the possibility of change. After losing my son, I knew that there was a gift somewhere but I had no clue what it might be. Years later I realized that the gift was my determination to make meaning out of my grief and to support others experiencing grief. This enabled me to lead writing workshops in spaces where participants suffer from physical and emotional pain. When we raise our vibration, we attract the energy of what we desire. Gratitude sets us up for more abundance. Another powerful practice is tithing where you are spiritually fed. By spiritually fed, I don’t mean only a religious organization. It can be where you hear lectures, look at art, feel inspired. Through giving 10

percent from your resources, you acknowledge that your spirit has been nourished. This is alongside giving to charity. I give to organizations that work with the homeless, for example, and it is also essential that I tithe to book festivals, bookstores, reading series, libraries and theaters, as well as to my spiritual home. Tithing your time and talent to support, encourage and bless others is also a powerful act of gratitude that attracts more abundance, satisfaction, a sense of purpose, and connection with others. This might be sharing advice to an emerging artist, volunteering at a book festival table, offering a free workshop, responding to emails, and showing up at gallery openings. How can we shift the default in our brains from negative to positive? By finding the blessing in the hardship, by knowing the blessing is there even when we can’t see it. Begin your meditation or prayer practice with words of gratitude. End your mindful walk or your creative work with a moment of gratitude. a WENDY BROWN-BÁEZ is the creator of Writing Circles for Healing. age, Maitreya, the one expected by many and longed for by millions (consciously or not), who has come now to guide us through this perilous time and into a cleansed and transformed new world. Maitreya has advised humanity to make the needed changes to put our world on a saner, fairer path — for all 7.7 billion of us — and his advice can be summarized in a few words, as revealed by Benjamin Creme in Share International magazine: “He [Maitreya] will show that essentially men are one, no matter the color or the creed, that the bounty of Earth belongs to all, and that sharing of that bounty is the key to man’s future. Only sharing, and the justice which it will bring, offers hope to man. Only justice wrought out of sharing will end the plagues of war and terror. Only sharing and justice can bring men to that Brotherhood which is their true inheritance. When men see this they will rise to the challenge and tackle one by one the many problems which daunt us now. Maitreya’s Light will support and balance men in their eagerness for the changes which must ensue, and, in right order, the world will be renewed.” Maitreya and his group have worked behind the scenes for millennia to guide a human family endowed with free will. By all appearances today, we have not used that free will wisely and are reaping the consequences. But with these powerful, incorruptible allies at our back — and openly in the world for the next 1,500 years — we have the opportunity right now to start rebuilding a world that works for everyone. Will we take it? In response to today’s racial and economic injustice, exacerbated and highlighted by the COVID-19 pandemic, we are marching. We are protesting. We are sharing resources and helping others. We are agitating for change. We are on the right track now! Let’s not even consider going back to business as usual. a LYNNE GIRDLESTONE has been a non-profit administrator and esoteric student for over 40 years. Learning that the Masters of Wisdom and the World Teacher, Maitreya, have stood behind, inspired and supported humanity for eons has given her hope for our future — even in these dark but potential-laden times. Echoes of Love Support Reconnection A Pleiadian Message BY CHRISTINE DAY BELOVED ONES, WE greet you. We are the transmitters of the light. We are the wayshowers for the elements of creation to become manifest now on your planet. We create an expanded vibration to flow across the Earth plane, which is designed to activate a quickening throughout humanity and Earth. These daily transmissions are designed to create an echo, like waves of transforming frequencies. These transmissions interweave within the network grid of God light and then naturally expand outwards through you and the planet. As you actively choose to engage within your own heart frequency, these echoes are designed to support you in a rapid reconnection within the multidimensional aspect of your heart. These higher vibrations interact within the heart cells, activating the cells into a remembering. Each heart cell begins to open individually, like a bud of a flower opening to the sun. These higher frequency vibrations create an activation through the brain synapses within the nervous system, reopening the telepathic centers within your brain. These centers are a natural aspect of the makeup of your multidimensional sacred systems. This sacred aspect connects you to the higher realm state of Self. Each time you choose to engage consciously through your heart, these higher frequencies will create this transformation through the cells of your heart and brain centers. The network grid is widening its capacity daily, expanding its frequency to support you in your day-to-day life. Your reconnection to the network grid can only be achieved through the action of reconnection within your heart. This process cannot be corrupted by the third-dimensional illusion, despite the ongoing drama. SACRED IMPRINTS The sacred imprints that are arising hold the essence of God‘s communion light. These echo imprints are setting in motion a continually evolving process, opening an incredible rebirthing potential for you. This electrical grid holds the God light components for all humanity on your Earth plane. This blessed frequency is mirroring the brilliance of Truth. The action of this light created from the grid is accelerating and unearthing the density, which has been held within your governments, society and your own human aspect for lifetimes. The network grid is designed to support your physical, energetic transmutation while, simultaneously, what

you refer to as “pandemic energy” activates and plays out across your planet. The network grid is actively becoming more manifest on your planet, transforming daily and holding the vibrational design to fully and actively transform your heart. This enables you to move beyond the veils of illusion for your accelerated reconnection to Truth. The third-dimensional chaos on Earth is set to continue. You can expect the unfolding drama to accelerate through to the end of this year. Know that this time of chaos is designed to assist you in changing your relationship to your human aspect, for you to align and activate a higher vibrational reconnection to your multidimensional heart space. Your heart holds your full sacred component. Understand that you require this upheaval in your third-dimensional reality to reposition yourself into a higher terrain of your sacred reconnections. The drama is destined to complete this phase beginning around December this year. The gift of this time is awaiting you. Within your own multidimensional heart, you can rediscover the sacred component of you. There is an urgent call going outwards for those of you “on the path” to allow self-resurrection through your conscious choice action, choosing to relink within your heart. The step in front of you is a “turn in the wheel,” a powerful moment like no other before.

SPIRITUAL COMMUNION Know that you are not separate. Each one of you is preordained to meet and become reconnected through your unique God consciousness element within the network grid. Within this higher realm, you form a natural communion. As you rejoin through the network grid within your God light, you naturally reconnect to a higher system of consciousness, relinking into an understanding and clarity. You choose to reconnect through your heart. As you take this step of realignment within your heart, you birth into a direct pathway linking you into the network grid. The drama in your third-dimensional reality is simply a smoke screen, an illusion. Anchor your commitment to let go, to move beyond the illusion, by aligning your reality awareness within your physical heart space. Choose you. Choose to live through the vibrational Truth of your own heart. Remember: “You are who you have been waiting for.” This is your time to deepen your commitment to the vast unlimited potential of the multidimensional tool of your heart.

Your unique God light is an aspect of the makeup of the network grid. As you realign within your multidimensional heart, this reconnection to the network grid repositions you to your higher realm path, an avenue aligning you to Truth. The essence of Truth has always existed within the framework of this vibrational network grid of God light. This month heralds in a huge shift within the network grid. The grid itself is undergoing a further transformation, which will allow you to access a more fluid transitional state within its light frequency. The network is opening up new doorways, enabling you to receive revelations, a deeper essence of understanding of who you are within your God consciousness state. This allows you to commune beyond where you have previously realigned within the higher realm consciousness, enabling you to move into vast experiences of Self that have not been accessible previously. These higher access points have been set in motion through divine timing through the God seat of power within this, our resident Universe. These openings have changed the entire landscape within the network grid. Through your conscious reconnection you will be moved into a higher perspective of vision. You are ready to embark on this journey of self-realization.

THE PROCESS: You are being called forward at this juncture for your reconnection to Self. Remember that the conscious breath, a breath in and out of the mouth utilized every now and again, will be instrumental in your successful reconnection to the network grid. 1. Bring both palms to rest on your chest (this is your heart space). 2. Open your awareness where your hands rest and place your conscious breath, like a soft wind, into the space. Feel yourself aligning into your heart space. 3. Wait until you feel, see or sense the energy essence of your heart space open. This

may be warmth, tingling, movement, fluidity or light, maybe just a sense of the space. As you place the conscious breath in this space, you align or open deeper. Allow your awareness to expand within the elements of the heart space as it opens. Fill your awareness within the experience. 4. Once you have aligned within your heart, you can begin to open up the essence of the network grid. Keep physically connected to your heart space with your hands and bring your awareness outwards beyond your physical body. Open your awareness into your energetic field that surrounds you. 5. The network grid is linked to the unique energy of your field of light. Utilize this sacred sound, ESTEN TAHN (pronounced esten tarn), within your energetic field. Bring as many sounds within your energetic space and build upon your sounds. 6. The network grid recognizes your unique frequency of the sound and it begins to open up to you further. As you make more of the sounds, let your awareness open towards the energy of the network grid that you feel, see or sense. 7. Feel yourself being received by the network grid, drawn like a magnet into the unlimited essence of the network grid light. Use your awareness and conscious breath to fully align and open into this vast space of structured light. Open into the communion and let go with the conscious breath. 8. Feel yourself being aligned to your place within your God light. Feel yourself anchoring into your place, being received, acknowledged. Use the conscious breath to let go and align deeper, claiming your place. 9. Open your hands slowly off your chest and allow your awareness to move through a space that is being revealed to you. It’s like opening a doorway, taking you further within the network grid frequency of your place within the communion. 10. Let go and utilize the conscious breath to anchor ➤ see ECHOES OF LOVE on p. 10 AUGUST 2020 THE EDGE

and claim your realignment further. Keep letting go with your breath. Open your awareness to consciously link deeply within the God consciousness communion energy, which is here. Allow a letting go within you to occur. This will open up the space for you to reclaim and anchor into your sacred reconnection within the communion of God light. 11. When this phase feels complete for now, bring your hands and awareness slowly back to your physical chest. 12. Feel a pathway being established from the network grid into your heart cells. Utilize the conscious breath into your heart cells and feel, sense or see the pathway from the grid forge within your heart. Feel, see or sense the frequency of the communion of your God light anchor within your cells. This is your sacred process that unfolds into a unique journey each time you work within the activated energy. This is your next step in your enlightenment process. We witness and salute your commitment to towards your own destiny. This is a self-empowerment process for change, which has been gifted to you at this time.

GREAT PROGRESS No matter how things may appear within the illusion in your world, as an individual aspect of the collective you make great progress every time you consciously choose to engage within your heart to the network grid. Humanity as a united entity is being held within the One, the sacred design of destiny through the network grid. Each one of you is to play an essential role in the unfolding energy within the awakening of your planet Earth. Your conscious reflection of “letting go” of the illusion within your heart greatly contributes to bringing an end to the illusion. There is to be a shattering of the illusion on Earth at a certain juncture, and you are to play a pivotal role in this through the simple process of choosing to let go within any given moment 1 0  WWW.EDGEMAGAZINE.NET

in your day. Don’t look for perfection, but moments of reconnection to your heart and a building reconnection within the network grid. Focus on unraveling the old concepts that your ego mind very subtly continues to perpetuate within your life. Consciously choose to let go of all that is not Truth in moments. One moment at a time builds the love towards your human aspect of being.

WITNESS YOUR HUMANITY Take moments to witness your humanity and bring compassion to yourself and all that you are within any one space of time. You have navigated within the journey of your story and this is the time to release the illusion of the importance of your story. Your ego mind holds tightly to this illusion. Remember: you are much more than your story. Move beyond the limited perception of your ego mind and reach within your heart to align within the vast aspect of your natural sacred component. We wish to remind you that there is nothing you need to change within your human imperfection in order to move into your enlightenment process within your heart right now. As you actively choose moments to reconnect within the vastness of your multidimensional heart, you are simultaneously choosing to deepen your alignment to your purpose for this time. Moment by moment, allow your realignment to your multidimensional sacred heart. We hold love around you as you proceed, step by step, moment by moment. Six Body & Mind Tools to Bring Calm in the Face of Fear BY

CARRIE ECKERT

MANY OF US HAVE LIVED inside our heads for so long that we’ve all but lost the connection to our physical selves. We can feel the discomfort of dis-ease, but in general, we don’t feel the various parts of our body. Why are most of us deaf to the whispers of the physical body and only able to hear the screams? Trauma survival is one mind-body divider. Numbing and resistance often play a significant role in how we detach from our physical bodies after having experienced trauma. Trauma can include anything from getting lost in the grocery store as a young child to being immersed in fear of the current pandemic. Left-brain focus — using logic and analysis to get things accomplished — is rewarded in our society, and it is a second way in which we tend to detach from our bodies. We often lean on our left-brains to distract ourselves from our emotional experience. We plan, analyze, worry, organize, research and frantically clean the house. Logic, or mental processing, is only one of our strengths as humans, and it is the one many of us tend to rely on most heavily. Inner wisdom, and the path to healing, comes through the body, not the mind. As we balance the mind with the body, we can uncover the real source of our suffering and heal those wounds.

THREE BODY TOOLS The following are three body tools: • Exercise — There is no shortage of studies proving that physical exercise relieves stress. When we experience

• Boosts oxytocin (aka the “love drug”) and serotonin which calm your nervous system and elevate your mood • Lowers your blood pressure • Strengthens your immune system • Brings you to the present moment • Relaxes your body (switches on your parasympathetic nervous system)

challenging events, our nervous systems go into fight-or-flight — tensing up our muscles, releasing a concoction of hormones like adrenaline, and slowing the mechanics of our non-vital organs in that moment (think digestive organs, immune system, various brain functions). Different forms of exercise have different benefits, but engaging in activities that both contract and release your muscles is essential in bringing balance back to your nervous system. • Breathe — The breath can be especially powerful when you feel out of control. Fortunately, the rhythm of your breath is the only autonomic function that you can control. The simplest way to start is to notice your breathing. Is it shallow? Are the inhales and exhales short, and do they reside in your chest? If so, make a conscious effort to inhale deeply through your nose, visualize the air being pulled all the way down to your belly, and exhale through your mouth. Continue in this way for several cycles. Bring your attention to your body — the sensation of air being pulled in through your nose, the softening in your heart as you allow that air to continue deeper into the relaxing muscles of your belly, and then the relief of the audible exhale from the mouth. • Touch — Grounding, or earthing, is the process of absorbing the earth’s free-flowing electrons from its surface through the soles of one’s feet, transferring the ground’s energy into the body. In addition to receiving this calming resource from the earth, we can transfer energy through human touch. Hugging is a basic human need, and there’s scientific evidence to prove it! Here are a few reasons for giving and receiving that simple, yet powerful form of affection:

THREE MIND TOOLS The following are three mind tools: • Witness the Chatter — Open a notebook, grab a pen, and set a timer for ten minutes. Now sit down and free-write. Mind dump. Clear the clutter. This stream of consciousness exercise will go a long way in showing you what thoughts are looping in your mind without your awareness. You are not your thoughts, and engaging in this exercise is a gigantic step in reigning in the stronghold they unknowingly have on you. • Engage Your Senses — Give your mind something to do! Immersing yourself in the present moment is easy when you get your five senses involved, and you can enlist your mind in this activity. Stop whatever you’re doing and look around. What do you see? Name five things your eyes reveal to you. Now get still and notice what you hear. What sounds do you discover with your ears? Name four of them. Bring your awareness to your tactile sense. Do you sense a specific temperature or maybe a breeze? What are your feet touching? Your hands? Identify three of these. What do you smell? If there seems to be nothing discernible in the air, try inhaling the scent of your skin or recall the aroma from this morning’s breakfast. Let your nose find two scents. What do you taste? Is there a lingering flavor on your tongue? • Five-Minute Challenge — Let your body speak to your mind and listen. When your five minutes is up, note how you feel. 1. Set your timer for 5 minutes. 2. Find a comfy spot to sit or lie down . 3. Start mindfully breathing for a few seconds . 4. Acknowledge and then send unconditional love to any current pain, illness, challenge, disease, chronic condition or discomfort. 5. Imagine releasing all stress or anger over having this challenge. a CARRIE ECKERT is a mind-body health coach and “mystery illness” mentor at Avocado to Zen. Jesus, Christ, God and You: What’s the difference? BY

GRÉGORY PUENTE

WHO WAS JESUS AND was he the only son of God? What was Jesus really teaching and where did that wisdom come from? Beyond the mainstream interpretations we learned in Sunday school, who does Jesus say we are? Many people use all or some of these words — Jesus, Christ, Jesus Christ, and God — interchangeably. Yet, they are not identical and the differences might really surprise you! If we look more deeply, with open eyes, minds and hearts, we can find a rich and empowering understanding of who each of these entities actually is. This understanding also helps us to see who we are. Jesus’ mystical teachings point us to our inner divinity and power, to our own divine heritage. We understand who we really are and what we’re capable of. This is not a “new” interpretation. Quite the contrary! This is a core understanding from Jesus’ original mystical teachings that became lost through ego power dynamics. I respect this great master, Jesus, a lot. As I’ve progressed in my spiritual and mystical path, I have come to know him well and have learned many things through him. Perhaps you have a current relationship with Catholic or Christian teachings or were brought up in a household that did. Or perhaps you are on your spiritual path, but never studied Jesus’ teaching personally. Whatever your relationship to Catholicism or Christianity, this new understanding of who Jesus, Christ, Jesus Christ, God and You are throws a whole new light on the sacred mystical text of the Holy Bible.

THE DIFFERENCE So, what is the difference between Jesus, Christ, Jesus Christ and God? Jesus was a high master. He was a man, born from a mother, Mary. He was human like you and me, with a physical body and blood. Jesus went to the state of realization, Christhood/Buddhahood. He was a man who realized his mission in his incarnation. Christ is the divine presence in you and in everyone, everything, everywhere. Christ has different names in different traditions. In the Bwiti tradition, Christ is known as Mbomba Eyano, among many other names. In other traditions it’s called the Higher Self, Eternal Self, Krishna Consciousness, Buddha Consciousness, God Consciousness, Atma, Fire Snake, Winged Snake, etc. Although they have different names, all religions and spiri1 2  WWW.EDGEMAGAZINE.NET

tual paths talk about this consciousness, because all these paths lead to the same place. Jesus Christ is the composition of Jesus and Christ working collaboratively: Christ talked and acted through Jesus, freely. This began when Jesus received the Holy Spirit during his baptism by John the Baptist. That was his moment of illumination. From that point, Jesus Christ could do all that He could do: miracles, healings and profound teachings. This is also when Christ began to talk through Jesus in first person at different times. This is a really important point: this is Jesus with Christ. It is Christ who worked through Jesus. God is the Mother-Father Divine, Source, Unified Consciousness and the many, many other names for God! This is the big ocean of the All, and Christ is a drop within this vast ocean. This drop contains the whole ocean, too. It’s impossible to study, to connect, with the full ocean at once, but you can begin to study the ocean in one drop. Christ offers a clear way for us to connect deeply with Source. This is why Christ says through the mouth of Jesus, “I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life. No person will meet the Father except through me” (John 14:6). It’s not Jesus who says this: it’s Christ. Christ is giving us the super clear clue that in order to begin to merge with the ocean of the All, God, we need the Atma, Higher Self, Christ consciousness to get there. We need to wake up to our true nature.

WHO IS TALKING When you read the Bible, or hear a quote from Jesus, ask yourself, “Who’s actually talking?” Is it Jesus? Christ? Or God, directly? When Jesus said, “Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father” (John 14.9), who is speaking? It’s an important distinction. Christ is speaking through the mouth of Jesus. When Jesus says, “Don’t you believe that I am in the Father, and that the Father is in me? The words I say to you are not just my own. Rather, it is the Father, living in me, who is doing his work” (John 14.10), who is speaking? And who is speaking here: “For I have come down from heaven, not to do My own will, but to do the will of Him who sent Me” (John 6:38)? Understanding Jesus as the mouthpiece and Christ and God as the speakers really

shifts how we understand Jesus’ message. You have this Power, this ChristConsciousness, in you. It’s not just “out there.” Jesus was the son of God — and so are you. We are all children of God, “I say, ‘You are gods; you are all children of the Most High” (Psalm 82:6). As Joshua David Stone writes in Soul Psychology, “God created you, and your true identity is the Christ. In other words, you are all sons and daughters of God, made in God’s image. God is love, so you are love. You don’t have to become love; love is what you are.” Just like Jesus, we are souls incarnated into flesh and blood bodies for this lifetime. We came here with a mission and with the ability to access our Christ nature. Stone continues, “Your true identity as the Christ or Buddha or Atma or Eternal Self cannot be changed. That is how God created you. You can think you are something other than this, but that does not change reality. You are the Christ, the Buddha, the Atma, the Eternal Self, whether you believe it or not.” With Christ awake within, you can do the miracles that Jesus did!

SPIRIT MOVES In all traditions, you’ll find people whom Spirit moves through to do different healings. We are channels for divine power. It’s very usual that the Spirit can move and talk through you — it’s not unusual, like people have been taught to think. Jesus says, “Don’t you believe that I am in the Father, and that the Father is in me? The words I say to you I do not speak on my own authority. Rather, it is the Father, living in me, who is doing his work” (John 14:10). It’s not “you” doing the healing, it’s Spirit. Jesus said that all that he did, we can do, and more, “Very truly I tell you, whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father” (John 14:12). Many people think that only Jesus can do miracles and that humans are impotent in divine matters. Jesus said the opposite! He pointed to the fact that the Divine is inside us, that we are all children of God. We have divine inheritance. Think about what divine inheritance means for us. The question is how open are your mind and heart to remember your inherent Christ nature? How much are you cultivating your system to be able to receive this love, peace,

wisdom and power that comes with this consciousness? How are you transcending the separative, fear-based mind of the ego that gets in the way of this? Are you over-identifying with matter and building your castle on the sand, or building your castle on the rock, in Spirit?

REMEMBERING Joshua David Stone describes the process of remembering our Christ consciousness precisely. “The spiritual path is really not about trying to get anyplace,” he writes. “It is just the reawakening to who you are. The second step is the practice of being the true Self in daily life.” “When I point at the moon, don’t look at my finger, look at the moon.” Do you know this saying? It’s a pithy way of telling us to pay attention to the matter of consequence, not the means of communication. The moon is what I’m showing you and my finger is just the way I can help you see where it is. You could say that Jesus was the finger pointing to the “moon,” the Eternal nature of life within us all. Most people instead look at Jesus’ pointing finger only and few actually looked to where he was pointing. As Thich Nhat Hanh says, we must not

“mistake it for the truth itself. “A finger pointing at the moon,” he says, “is not the moon. The finger is needed to know where to look for the moon, but if you mistake the finger for the moon itself, you will never know the real moon. The teaching is like a raft that carries you to the other shore. The raft is needed, but the raft is not the other shore. An intelligent person would not carry the raft around on his head after making it across to the other shore... Use the raft to cross to the other shore, but don’t hang onto it as your property.” When a person, place or experience points us toward something profound and holy, we must be sure not to get stuck on the medium. Once we receive the transmission, we can let go of the vehicle we used to get there, because now we are free. We’ve arrived. Now, we know. Yet, this is exactly the opposite of what mainstream religion has done. It is obsessed with Jesus, the man, who touched Infinity and said, “Hey, look, this is the Way!” For many, Jesus has become praised as God. This misses the point of claiming our power and true nature. To awaken to ourselves, we need to remember our Atma, our Eternal Self.

SPIRITUAL KNOWLEDGE This is not a judgment of people who worship Jesus as God. All religions are a school of spiritual knowledge and I respect them all. There is something to learn whichever way you go. What I’m offering here is a clarification for the people who are ready and open enough to hear it. Reflect on these words of Jesus...(and you can discern “who” is speaking): • “Abide in me and I will abide in you” (John 15:4). • “And know that I am with you always; yes, to the end of time” (Matthew 28:20). • “Little children, you are of God…the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in this world” (1 John 4:4 ). • “Do not hold on to me, for I have not yet ascended to the Father. Go instead to my brothers and tell them, ‘I am ascending to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God’” (John 20:17). And Paul’s words, “I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me” (Galatians 2:20). What are your thoughts and feelings about these definitions? Do they resonate? How does this affect your understanding of Jesus’ teachings, power, religion and spirituality? a GRÉGORY PUENTE is a Nima (consecrated shaman) in the Bwiti tradition. Virgo (Aug. 23-Sept. 22)…Take care of your health as the month begins; catch up on internal work, personal projects, community responsibilities, but mainly rest. Breathe through a setback the first week of August, then develop some juicy new work after August 19. Don’t worry, just activate. Libra (Sept. 23-Oct. 22)…Speak up in early August, even if it rocks the boat. If beloveds are unusually moody, assume they love you but are dealing with their own inner journey. Support people stepping in the right direction rather than fix a whole situation. Feel appreciation flow towards the end of the month.

AUGUST HOROSCOPE

Take a Deep Breath Mercurial Messages through the Zodiac BY HEATHER ROAN ROBBINS THE COMET NEOWISE has been visible in the evening skies. Comets introduce new material into our planetary neighborhood. Astrologers historically associate comets with a year of ecological shifts, epidemics and regime changes, which are challenging and can break open potential for new growth and fresh leaders. Let’s take a deep breath while we can. August begins as mental Mercury in introspective Cancer opposes intense Pluto and hard-working Saturn, a lineup that can whisper depression or help us understand the depth of our collective challenge. Mercury joins the Sun in outgoing Leo after August 4, normally a time for arts and music festivals, but this year we have to find a new way to engage the larger world. Mars is now in feisty Aries for the next five months. Here it infuses energy, lowers impulse our control, irritates us and sharpens our rebellious spirit, all the while challenging us to love bravely. Mars squares expansive Jupiter on August 4, squares powerful Pluto on August 13, and squares Saturn on August 24, times when we need to direct our energy with love and purpose. Uranus retrogrades on August 15, slowing down some impending change, but it doesn’t stop it. Fall approaches and needs us to plan ahead as Mercury enters Virgo August 19 and the Sun follows August 22. Mercury and Venus oppose Jupiter, trine Neptune at the end of August and help us dream the next chapter into being. 1 4  WWW.EDGEMAGAZINE.NET

Aries (Mar. 21-Apr. 19)…Your leadership is strong now, so aim carefully. Don’t overdo with competition or ambition in early August; pace yourself. Information from home can trigger some important reconsideration. Mid-August you know what needs transformation; stay in leadership mode and lead with heart. Taurus (Apr. 20-May 20)…Be straightforward in response to difficult words with community or siblings. Own up to your frustrations and deal with them cleanly and directly. Let life be a schoolroom and learn about yourself; investigate a new level of your personal history. Look for a door opening August 25–27. Gemini (May 21-June 20)…Challenges around material resources can set off stress at work or community. Keep clean boundaries between your resources and others, and use your ingenuity to help find solutions. Your ability to create connection and mediate comes to the forefront after August 19. Cancer (June 21-July 22)…You enjoy stirring the pot this month, intuitively knowing just the thing to say to upset the apple cart. Use that superpower with care rather than to just bait, beloveds. Choose your battles carefully, with a specific productive end goal, and tilt the situation towards good. Leo (July 23-Aug. 22)…When you are helpful to others, your sense of self grows and strengthens. Look for unsettling, but productive, changes the first week of August. Step into the limelight after August 5, then be ready to step back and assist others after August 22.

Scorpio (Oct. 23-Nov. 21)…Get extra perspective and fresh education on some ongoing concerns as the month begins. Pay attention to avoid arguments and accidents August 4 and 24. Later in the month, do some important homework and then speak with wise authority around work concerns. Sagittarius (Nov. 22-Dec. 21)…If others seem to be all up in your business as the month begins, don’t get mad; just honor their concerns and listen to them, but focus on your will path. Sidestep arguments August 4, but take on a healthy challenge. Express what you love mid-month. Coordinate with beloveds August 25-29. Capricorn (Dec. 22-Jan.19)…New input could shake up some corner of your personal identity. Listen to the incoming information, assess it for yourself, and enjoy the evolution of your self-concept. If your family or neighbors act out, step back and choose battles judiciously; new chapters are beginning. Aquarius (Jan. 20-Feb. 18)…You may have been chewing on a concern for the last two years, and you’re working to bring it to conclusion this fall. Deal with temporary frustration but do the work August 24. Seeds you planted earlier begin to sprout after August 5 and continue in the months ahead. Pisces (Feb. 19-Mar. 20)…Your kind heart can hurt for the challenges your friends experience, and that can shut you down or crack open your potential. You don’t have to fix everyone, but keep your heart open; lend a hand when you can do so in a centered and healthy way. a HEATHER ROAN ROBBINS is a heart-centered and choice-oriented astrologer, palmist and ceremonialist with 30+ years’ experience. We Are What We Are HERB AUSTIN WHEN BORN, IF WE are lucky, our minds and bodies are wonderful pieces of equipment ready and capable of performing unbelievable tasks all by themselves in keeping us alive and carrying us through a long, healthy and progressive life. First are things like heartbeat, breathing, body temperature and a nervous system to help us determine what is best for us to think and do. Then as we grow and learn, hopefully we choose the thought processes and both physical and mental activities that will best take us where we want to go. In short, we are equipped — and expected — to determine and achieve both the directions we want to travel and the mind and body that will get us there. Accordingly, it is first up to us to keep BY

both this machine and its pilot healthy and headed in the right direction. There are many choices ahead of us, both good and bad. Given the many influences on us, however, the final choices we make are those made all by ourselves. Let me pass on a life theory. l do not remember where I read it. The intention was to suggest the way to a healthy, happy and productive life. The three health avenues that it suggested were to live, love and create. Simple enough, but there was a problem: if any of these wills were frustrated and our ongoing psychic energy being what it is, it would invoke its opposite. The will to live would become the will to die, love would become hate and the will to create would become the will to destroy. At age 90, all too often I am seeing friends and relatives in hospital beds who are refusing to eat or even talk.

That suggests they have given up. They are ready to die a peaceful death. Many divorced folks are quick to name as their most hated individual the very people they once had as best friends or beloved spouses. I remember many incidents in my own life when creation turned to destruction, such as ripping a failed creative writing attempt from my typewriter and throwing it across the room, or taking a failed woodworking project and hammering the hell out of it. Each of us is different, having been molded throughout our lives in varying ways, but whatever we are, we made the most telling moves and decisions all by ourselves. a HERB AUSTIN (Childs) is retired military, 20 years in corrections (probation and parole), with a master’s degree in Counseling and Guidance. Finding Ways to Center BY

CAROLYN CHILTON CASAS

YOU WAKE UP IN the morning and something feels off. Maybe you can point to a reason why you are experiencing sadness, crankiness, grief, anger or any other emotion that doesn’t feel good. At other times everything seems to be going along smoothly, but you still feel uneasy. I believe it’s important to pay attention to these feelings because they can be a compass to our soul’s wellbeing. Then I know to try one of the following techniques to help me to get back into balance. Think of a place that makes you feel calm — a place where you can breathe easier and let your hair down. It could be visiting a friend’s house, a museum, a temple or observing nature. For me that place is the beach. As soon as I smell the fresh, salty air, any stress I have been carrying magically lifts off me. Somehow, no matter what is happening, the peacefulness of the waves and the marine wildlife make me feel everything will be all right. Another idea is to find an activity that makes you feel good. A few of my centering activities are creating art and writing. When I’m focused on making a mosaic piece or writing a story or a poem, I lose all sense of time. During this period of creating, I have no thoughts or worries, due to my complete concentration on what is in front of me. Now that you have hopefully found a place that centers you and an activity or two, ask yourself if there is a spiritual practice or a set of beliefs that ground you? Start to get clear about what beliefs give you a sense of unity and connection. You don’t have to follow a religious tradition; you can create your own. It could be a breathing practice, meditation, yoga, qigong, asking your ancestors or angels for guidance or praying to whatever name you

prefer for a Higher Power. My most powerful ways to center myself are through meditation, Reiki, and taking time daily to be in silence and ask for guidance. This is when I often reflect on the combination of beliefs that make up my own personal faith. At a young age I was taught spiritual laws to create a fulfilled, happy life. They included: the unity of all life, the individualization of the One Spirit in each of us, and that we are surrounded by a Creative Power that receives the direct impression of our thoughts and acts upon them. I studied and applied these principles and then added the Buddhist teachings of compassion and cooperation and Native American beliefs ➤ see WAYS TO CENTER on p. 18 AUGUST 2020 THE EDGE

sacred geometry design in nature and by mankind. Throughout my journey I have come to three core realizations about how geometric patterns impact our reality, and ultimately our bodies and soul, when placed carefully upon our skin.

THE ARCHETYPAL FABRIC OF REALITY Mathematics is the language and blueprint of our world. All things in known existence are perceived through the lens of geometry and proportion. From the pyramids to Stonehenge, the earliest and most profound structures are built with the understanding of sacred geometry. Within the mind of our most ancient ancestors to the most modern of our technological prowess, the truth of this wisdom has been observed and proliferated. The connotation “sacred” has its origin in the simple fact that this knowledge was used in the physical construction of our finest worldly places of worship — temples, churches and mosques. The intended purpose was to create a space of such awe-inspiring wonder as to reflect the mastery of some divine presence. The architects had a vast understanding of the laws that govern our natural world and made use of this to cultivate this experience for the observer. The intention of these early mystics (which has often been overlooked by the grandeur of their construction) was to inspire an internal realization that the true temple of sacred geometry was the human body and our world around us.

Lessons I Learned from Sacred Geometry Tattoos BY

DILLON FORTE

WE ARE NOW EXPERIENCING a new universal cosmology spanning from the deepest, distant past to a future beyond our wildest imagination. Our collective consciousness has a common thread, one of geometric awe and mathematical splendor that is often unrealized. My artistic pursuit and passion for understanding has fueled my life’s work and become somewhat of a healthy obsession. Nature is the wisest of all teachers. In our continued false concept of separation from this “force,” I fear we have drifted 1 6  WWW.EDGEMAGAZINE.NET

further from our Source. The principle ideology presented here is a return to that understanding of who we’ve been and who we are, which is an inseparable being of ultimate love and oneness. If I have one goal as a tattoo artist, it is to share this profound truth and illuminate the evidence I’ve found in an attempt to bring harmony and balance to ourselves and the world around us. Since my humble beginnings as an apprentice, I have continued to study, with deep fascination, the core principles and meanings behind

SACRED GEOMETRY & ANATOMY The anomalies of geometry found throughout the biological, natural and physical world are not anomalies at all. They are the simple rules of geometry and, most specifically, the reflection of The Golden Ratio. Plato considered the golden section to be the most binding of all mathematical relationships and the key to the physics of the cosmos. Phidias, after whom the term Phi is given, used it for the construction of many sculptures and the proportion found in the Parthenon. Euclid noted that dividing a line at the 0.6180399 point is “dividing a line in the extreme and mean ratio.” This later gave rise to the use of the term the golden mean. De Divina Proportione, or Divine Proportion, was coined in 1509 by Luca Pacioli in a publication featuring many of Leonardo Da Vinci’s early sacred geometrical drawings. The Flower of Life is another example of a symbol shrouded in antiquity that has represented our most fundamental and powerful understanding of the universe. The unfolding of the geometric pattern resembles the cellular division of mitosis at the beginning of life. The Flower of Life

also was depicted by Da Vinci in his work Codex Atlanticus. However, there’s simply no more famous reference to the sacred geometrical structure of human form than “The Vitruvian Man” by Renaissance master Da Vinci himself in homage to early drawings by the Roman Vitruvious. My fascination with geometry has been my greatest muse, with the human body as my primary canvas. I find that in tattooing, our natural symmetry, in combination with sacred geometric imagery, makes for a powerful and cohesive ascetic. For many, tattoos are an outward representation of their inner perspective and as a reminder to a higher path of awareness. Sacred geometry tattoos tell a story. The Sanskrit word mandala translates as “circle.” It is a spiritual symbol found in both Hindu and Buddhist traditions, and circular motifs are some of the most ancient symbolism found worldwide. Mandalas often hold multiple meanings. They represent the universe as a whole, the totality of the cosmos — as, above, so below. The repetitive and unfolding radial symmetry invokes a sense of expansion and inward/outward reflection of the individual’s spiritual journey. The cyclical nature of reality truly is a transcendent cosmology. Tattooing symbolism has its root in the deepest recesses of human history, specifically our oldest tattooed ancestor, Otzi, the Italian ice mummy that was found with 61 I Ching symbols tattooed on acupuncture points. These simple, geometric motifs illuminate the multifaceted purpose of medicinal and ideological representation via tattooing as early as 3,500 BC. There’s more to the belief that tattoos can heal beyond the simple scientific studies on the vast benefit tattooing can have on our immune system. Our ancient ancestors were wiser than we are often permitted to believe. Research by the late Dr. Masaru Emoto, the Japanese

Photos © Dillon Forte scientist, concluded that our consciousness can alter the molecular structure and physical outcome of water crystals observed in varying conditions. The more benevolent parameters produce a fundamentally symmetrical structure to the water. Hence, the thesis in reverse is that symmetry and geometry are linked with positive emotions and higher levels of health. Often the initial response to such claims is one of disbelief, however the scientific findings of this have been observed. Sacred Geometry is simply so interwoven with our perceivable universe that it’s truly a neverending pursuit of inspiration and intrigue. a DILLON FORTE, the world-renowned artist and owner of Sri Yantra Tattoo, is known for his contemporary style of Sacred Geometry in tattooing. about our oneness with all of nature to make up the core pillar of my spiritual identity. In recent years, I have also integrated my practice of Reiki — both the sessions I give to others and the selfhealing component of Reiki. This modality works by helping to remove blockages in the life energy that flows through each of us. A diminished flow of life energy can cause problems in our bodies and in our emotional states. Prayer and meditation time, along with self-Reiki, have become a powerful, deep spiritual practice and a way of life for me. Anxiety and stress, sadness and emotional pain begin to melt away, giving me a deep sense of peace. I have not found any other centering practices that work better. It is important to honor your feelings and give yourself time and space to work through them. Sometimes, pulling back from the busyness of life and having more quiet time for contemplation is a good way to begin. Then, you can choose a centering technique that you have tried and found to work. Having methods ready to use when you need them is key. Centering is considered a practice for a reason: because as you consistently go to what helps you to re-center when you feel out of balance, your ability to center will deepen. My hope for you is that with practice you will find more peace of mind and have less ups and downs. Learning to Connect to Your Inner Peace BY GUY FINLEY An excerpt from The Lost Secrets of Prayer

FOR BETTER OR WORSE, the quality and content of your life experience is determined by what you are connected to. The next time you feel yourself becoming agitated, simply notice to what you are connected. See how simple this is, if you’ll do it. Here you are driving down the street and you start to notice that you’re feeling depressed. Or maybe you’re feeling anxious. That’s the first step: to see yourself, to be awake to what’s going on within you. Ordinarily, the nature that feels negative, the self that embraces that stressed state, looks to itself to explain to itself why it feels like that, which does nothing but forward the process. Now you have some new information. The reason that you’re in the condition you’re in is because of what you’re connected to. Period. And what you’re connected to in that moment is nothing but some self-limiting idea you have of yourself — an idea that’s telling you who you are, defining you based upon its incomplete perception of life. For instance, in unheard whispers it claims: “Unless so and so approves of my actions they’re worthless, which means I am too.” Or, “If I lose that account, or relationship, all will be lost.” These are mistaken ideas delivering wrong conclusions, unconscious conclusions, which become your tragedies. The first objective is to work at waking up to what you are connected to — and then from within your newly awakened awareness, see that any painful idea defining you is an illusion, a shadow of yourself cast from yet other conspiring mistaken ideas. I urge you to take time, at least twice a day,

preferably as many times as you can possibly do it, to simply, deliberately, become aware of what you are connected to, and then drop it in favor of your wish to have God’s Life. Repeatedly bring yourself back to yourself and then, from within this present self-awareness, realize that instead of being connected to that “you” which is always struggling to get something, hoping to become someone, trying to resolve things — surrender yourself to the understanding that the whole issue of who you are is already resolved. Let go and know that life is complete, timeless, and so are you. Do not go into imagination. The self you imagine will be a secret extension of the self you wish to escape. Everything you need to wake up, to be new, to realize peace of mind is right there with you without having to “create” it. But our ideas don’t report that to us. Our ideas report that we have to do something to “get there.” The illumined author Vernon Howard stressed to his students the new idea that to succeed spiritually, “there’s nothing to do, only something to see.” This is the truth. So see in those moments that the way you perceive life is what is punishing you — and then let what you start seeing change the ideas you have about yourself. a GUY FINLEY is the best-selling author of The Secret of Letting Go, The Essential Laws of Fearless Living, and more than 40 books and audio albums on self-realization. Bauer & Me Healing Together “Money can buy a fine dog, but only love will make him wag his tail.” — Kinky Friedman BY

CINDY SLATTERY

IT WAS LOVE at first sight. The yellow lab puppies were curled up sleeping against their mama. One of them opened his eyes and looked at my 10-year-old son and he knew: this one would be our puppy to love. We named him “Bauer” after the ice hockey gear company. Whenever someone asked my son his puppy’s name, he’d beam, “Bauer. We are a hockey family!” Fast forward eight years. We were away for Christmas with my husband Mark’s family when Mark died unexpectedly. The following day, arrangements were made for Mark and we headed to the airport to make our return flight as planned. We were numb. When we arrived at home, Bauer was happy to see us, but he would not leave my side. He knew something was “off.” Bauer was looking for Mark. We all were. The memorial service for Mark was January 6, 2017. When my two sons went back to college two days later, the truth overwhelmed me: I was a widow with an empty nest. It was just Bauer and me now. I spent that cold day on the couch, alternating between crying and sleeping. Bauer wandered around the house looking for Mark. We were both sad, but we were sad together. Bauer sat close by that first week, as I navigated making countless phone calls, finding documents, paying bills, and wondering how I would ever be okay again. I had barely enough energy to take care of myself, but when I bundled up and took Bauer on a short walk, he seemed happy. This was the first good feeling I remember having after Mark’s death. There was something I could do to create happiness. After a week, the day came for me to go back to work and for Bauer to return to Doggie Day Care. I was functioning, craving a routine, and grieving. The wonderful staff at Doggie Day Care was my first stop, the

first humans I would speak with every day, angels on Earth. They listened. They showered Bauer with love and attention and me with kindness. “Before,” if I had to work late, Mark would pick up Bauer. Now, it was only me, often frantically calling to say I was running late. I was never met with a harsh word, just a smile and a happy dog. Little by little, Bauer and I settled into a routine. Monday through Friday it was doggie day care and work, followed by dinner and a walk. Bauer slept with me and I slept with the TV on to offset the dead and heavy silence. Weekends were the most difficult — too much time and too much quiet. Finally, the weather started to improve. We were outside more often. We made some new friends — and connected with a special dog named Apollo, and his dad. Apollo is a chocolate lab one year older than Bauer. He is fun and happy, loves to swim and to walk with his Dad. Apollo’s Dad is a widower. Together, we found companionship, fun and company. Life began to expand. Bauer and I had company on many of our walks and were frequently invited to swim. Bauer’s first love is the water. When my beach bag comes out, he knows that we are going to play with Apollo. There is no way to communicate the joy — his or mine. Together, Bauer and I are healing. Bauer has been my constant and loyal companion. Our days are bracketed by drop off at doggie day care on my way to work and a walk together in the evenings. In our free time, we play on the beach and swim with Apollo. We are still a work in progress; even now, we still look for Mark. Bauer often goes outside and barks at the shed, which was Mark’s place. Most of the time, I can smile as Bauer reminds me that Mark is here, just out of sight — at least to me. a CINDY SLATTERY and Bauer live in California, Maryland. COPYRIGHT © 2020. Paws & Reflect BY HOLLISTER

RAND

PETS ARE FAMILY MEMBERS who also have become essential home workers. Without them, managing life during a pandemic would be infinitely more stressful and a lot less fun. Empty cages at shelters attest to our understanding that when the going gets tough, we need Ruff, or Fluffy. During these times of stress and unprecedented loss, we may also be missing the comfort of beloved pets who are now in spirit. As a medium, I have shared spirit messages for more than 25 years. Some of my favorite spirits are pets. Just thinking about Iggy the iguana who lived in a frat house and Bucky the miniature donkey who loved poetry makes me smile. Perhaps the most important thing I can say, as a medium, is that beloved pets in spirit never leave us. Don’t just take my word for it. You can experience the presence of pets in spirit in your life right now. Here’s how: • Pay attention. Animals on Earth are sensitive to spirits. Pets in spirit may demonstrate their presence by influencing other pets who currently live with you. If your dog suddenly does a “play bow” toward the corner of a room, this may be an invitation to a spirit dog to join in a favorite game. If your dog takes off running around a dining table as though his tail is on fire, tag with a spirit buddy might be taking place. When a cat in spirit named Jezebel gave me a message for her pet mom, it was to solve a mystery. A newly adopted kitten was incessantly tossing a partly bald mouse toy around. “Someone has to show the new one how to catch a mouse!” Jezebel, the cat in spirit, declared. Her pet mom confirmed that this old toy had been Jezebel’s favorite. • Observe nature. If your pet had a favorite place in the yard, or at a park, pay attention to birds, squirrels and ➤ see PAWS & REFLECT on p. 20 AUGUST 2020 THE EDGE

butterflies in that area. For example, a Golden Doodle in spirit named Goldy (what else?) gave me this message for her mommy: “I come to visit with the butterflies.” Goldy’s mom explained that one of her favorite activities on Earth was to chase butterflies (but not catch them). These days there are more butterflies than ever — right at the spot where Goldy’s ashes are buried. Chester, a cat whose pet parents were convinced was part bird dog, would sit at the window for hours and chatter at the birds. The day Chester died, an unusually large flock lined up on the branches outside the living room window, seemingly in silent homage. • Let go of guilt. The greatest block to feeling a connection with a pet in spirit is self-blame about the dying experience. Questions like Why didn’t I fix the lock on the back door (asked repeatedly after a Basenji escaped and was killed in a hit and run). Or Why didn’t I respond when my dog started barking in the backyard? (just prior to her being snatched by a coyote). Was it too soon to release my cat to Spirit? (even though the cancer was inoperable). Pets in spirit don’t reinforce our stories about their deaths. Rather, there is almost always an expression of gratitude for their lives with us. Pets aren’t afraid of dying and appreciate our decision, as difficult as it may be, to release them to spirit. • Remember joy! Our pets in spirit meet us in joy. Whether chasing a ball, enjoying a great meal, laughing or cuddling with a loved one (furry or human), pets in spirit are there. Pets in spirit are where the love and joy are in our lives. As we paws and reflect (pun intended), remember that love and joy are what our pet companions give to us while they live on Earth and that’s what they still share with us once in spirit. a HOLLISTER RAND has provided detailed messages from spirits for more than 25 years. What Animals Teach Us about Love BY

SRI HAROLD KLEMP

OFTEN WHEN WE SPEAK of love, we think of it being exclusive to the human race. Yet, if you have pets, you know that sometimes animals are capable of giving more of God’s love than many humans can. Dina has a horse. She calls her horse Babe. Dina got an insight into divine love through an experience with Babe. One day, Dina was feeling really downand-out, feeling really sorry for herself. So she went out into the paddock where Babe was. Dina came up to Babe and whispered in her ear, “Do you love me?” The horse looked at her and vigorously shook its head as if to say, “Nay.” Well, I don’t know if Babe said “nay” exactly, but anyway she was thinking “nay.” And then Babe turned and walked away from Dina. Dina, of course, was crushed. She needed love. She thought if she asked Babe — her horse, the one she takes care of all the time — if she just talked to Babe, certainly Babe would affirm this love and maybe say, “Aye.” If a horse dare say that.

NO STRINGS ATTACHED Dina was feeling even more sorry for herself than she had before. But then she threw back her shoulders and quietly called after Babe. She said, “That’s okay. I love you anyway with all my heart and being.” Babe stopped in her tracks, turned around, came back and stood by Dina’s side. I think we all know the kind of love that has strings attached. Sometimes we have done it, or we do it. Then other people, if they’re sensitive at all, will shy away. They don’t want to be near such a person, because it’s suffocating. In a way, it’s almost a form of black magic because it takes life away from someone else. Dina realized that the love she had expressed when she said to Babe, “I love you with all my heart and being” was divine love. Divine love means no strings attached, no need to have love given back — just pure divine love. This is the nature of real love. No strings attached. MISHA’S GIFT OF LOVE A woman had her own business, and all the cares about it weighed upon her. She

would go out running every day. One day after her run, she came home worn out and worried. During the run, she’d been thinking: Should she keep her business, or should she accept a job that a nutrition company had offered her which paid very well? She was sitting there wondering about what to do, tired out from her run, and even more tired from the worries of her business, when Misha, her Siamese cat, nudged her. Misha had his favorite toy in his mouth. He nudged her as if to say, “Hey, it’s time to play. Lighten up. This is my gift of love to you.” The woman began to smile. She felt her heart lighten as she saw the love her cat was giving her. It was a gift from one of God’s creatures — another soul. Many animals have an uncanny way of knowing where they should go to get the help they need. Those with a higher consciousness even know where to go to give help to those who need it. Our pets understand us far better than we think. Wrapped in our daily concerns, we often don’t see what we need to do to stay in harmony with the world around us — but they do.

SHOW ME LOVE If you don’t know anything about ECK, or Eckankar, the main tool you have to work with at this point may be prayer — your communication with God. And so you can pray to God. Just say, “I want truth,” or “Dear Lord, give me knowledge, wisdom, and understanding.” But the greatest thing you could ask is: “Dear Lord, give me love.” Truth reveals itself through the Light and Sound of God. Whether it comes to an animal, to you, or to someone else, it fills your heart with love. And when your heart is full of love, what room is there for fear? a SRI HAROLD KLEMP is an award-winning author, teacher, and spiritual guide who helps seekers reach their full potential. Companion Souls Spirit Leaves BY JANET MICHELE RED FEATHER I WISH I COULD WRITE of a companion pet; I have never really had a constant one. My ephemeral parade of pets includes Timmy the turtle, miscellaneous tropical fish, a dog named Buttons and four cats: Moonglow, Sunlion, Dreamstar and Whitefoot. They have since journeyed to the spirit world; Buttons visits in dreams, occasionally. Critters have come and gone in my life, but like husbands and friends, none remain. I say this nostalgically, not regrettably, since I value my solitude. Cedric Red Feather teaches, “It takes intelligence to live alone.” He is correct: there is a certain focus in non-attachment. The above may sound cold or diffident: I assure you, I am neither. I am generally a rank sentimentalist about relationships, however brief. I cry watching films involving lost or injured animals. I cannot bear to read of their mistreatment by humans. I cut plastic beverage rings into smaller pieces, so they won’t hurt sea creatures. I break for deer, geese and squirrels. I absolutely love critters. Despite the brevity of my relationships with various species, I never considered them pets: they were family. My mother carried our dog, Buttons, down the long stairs each morning, holding him in her arms and talking to him as though he were a baby. The term “pets” seems a bit proprietary for me. If anything, it is the other way around: they owned me — every piece of my heart and soul. I have learned much from these brief stays of the critter kind. They taught me the true meaning of unconditional love. No matter what mood I was in, they always greeted me with enthusiasm, love and gentleness. My dearest teachers have been horses. My few close encounters with horses let me

know how intelligent, telepathic and sensitive they are. Horses are brilliant creatures full of love. My book editor boards horses occasionally in a fenced pasture on her rural homestead. One day, we were visiting, and she led me to a fence behind which were a dark brown and a rather mystical black horse. The dark brown horse turned his head to the side when he saw me. Immediately, I felt a telepathic connection with him. I followed what I perceived were his instruction that I remain quiet, speak softly when necessary and just wait for him to come to where I leaned by a fence post. After a few minutes, he came over to me. My heart was racing. I was only afraid he might be afraid of me, and I wanted his trust so much. Gradually, he sensed it was right and swung his head gracefully over the fence into my space where I could pet him. His beautiful, dark, long-lashed eye stared through me. Our level of communication was indescribable. Horses are 100 percent present with you when you need them to be. From my cats, I learned empathy. If I were feeling low or in a doubting mood, my cats were Johnnies-on-the-spot. Before I knew it, one would leap into my lap, turn around once and curl into a tight, warm muff, purring madly. Animals instinctively knew when I needed their support. With humans, it was always more of a pushpull tension between wanting closeness but fearing judgment. The cats never looked at me as weak or needy; they were tuned in and sweet. Someday, perhaps, when I live out on the land, I will have room in my house and heart for a host of critters. I see how they make life richer. Love is never wasted. The key, it seems to me, is to practice non-attachment. Love and care for the animal species with your whole being; when it is time for them to leave, let them go. Cedric reminds us that our animal

friends never really leave us. Where there exists a strong bond of love between animal and human, that animal will always be with that person. If the love were strong enough, that animal will reincarnate as a critter again to be with that human. There it is — another profound lesson from our critter companions: real love is never, ever lost. a JANET MICHELE RED FEATHER, J.D., M.A., is a ceremonial singer who has learned over 60 traditional songs in Mandan and Lakota and sings in nine different languages. Your Pets During the Global Crisis What Are They Energetically Communicating to You? BY

CYNDI DALE

I HAD JUST HEARD that the riots from downtown Minneapolis might expand to the suburbs. I live in the next city circle, a mere 10-minute drive from downtown. I didn’t want to be scared, but I was. What should I do, besides lock the doors? Honey and Lucky, my 80-pound “puppies,” decided for me. I was sitting in the kitchen. Honey the Golden Retriever went over to the refrigerator and stared atop it. That’s where we keep staples. Then Lucky the yellow Labrador plopped his massive weight on my lap. I got it. Later that day, I bought more groceries and then stayed put. But during our interaction, my dogs also shared other impressions, the psychic type. These expressed requests from me. While Lucky was still sitting on my lap, an image formulated in my head. I saw him and Honey walking on their leashes. Darn! I had skipped their second morning outing. Well, we fixed that easily enough. Before we could head outside, Honey had more to share. Once done with the refrigerator, he stared at me. I felt my skin prickle and chill, and I wanted to shake. I knew that he was frightened, too. He was probably picking up on my fear and needed me to calm him in return. I cuddled with him for a while, whispering that we’d all be okay. Then out for our journey. For months, we’ve all been hunkered down. Kind of. Sometimes we’re caterpillars, wrapped in our cocoons. Other times, we’re more like larvae, unprotected and nervous. Then there are those brief moments of flight, only to return to our insulated state. We’re impacted by what’s occurring in the world, but so are our pets. Some of our pets are longstanding companions. Others might be brand new, or foster friends. No matter our relationship, our pets pick up on what’s happening in the global community through us. They also have something to say, whether they

a

want to care for us, or make a request from us. Want to know what your pet is conveying — and needing? It’s far easier if you approach the communication energetically. Like all living beings, our pets are composed of — and communicate with — energy. Energy is simply information that vibrates; however, there are two types. Physical energy is the stuff of material reality. When your pet stares at the food bowl, they’re pretty obviously asking for food. Lots of times we understand what our pets are sharing through behavior and body language. Subtle energy, on the other hand, is less measurable. It’s quantum, invisible and inaudible. In other words, it’s psychic. And most of our pet’s “memos” are delivered psychically. Have you ever seen an image in relation to a pet? Sensed a feeling or physical sensation? Maybe even heard words or a verbal missive? There are three major ways of relating psychically to a pet — visually, empathically and verbally. This statement applies to all pet species. In fact, it’s easier to receive and discern a pet’s messaging if you understand where it is “coming from”. As a broad stroke, each of the seven basic

categories of pets incarnates for a specific type of purpose. Like humans, animals have souls. They exhibit certain personality traits in order to carry out their species-related mission. To better help you figure out how to respond to a pet, consider the shared mission of the following types of pets: • Mammals: Tribal and loving. • Rodents: Detailed and focused. • Birds: Free and transcendent. • Reptiles: Survival-based and transformative. • Arthropods. Dream-shifters and destiny carriers. • Amphibians: Devoted to flow and intuition. • Aquatic fish: Inspirational and lucky. To deepen your ability to receive and interpret a pet’s particular messaging, first consider their overall purpose in your life. In what way is their categorical mission applicable to you? How do they typically assist you in becoming more like them? Then, assess their behavior. Do they seem challenged or “off?” What do their actions suggest? If your logical mind can’t figure out what’s up, use your intuition. Reflect on your pet’s actions, or your sense that they are communicating psychically. Then ask spiritual guidance to send you a visual image, empathic sensation, or verbal indication that packages their message. Are they trying to instruct or help you? Or do they require assistance from you? If you don’t get immediate psychic advisement or instruction, ask that you be shown an answer during the next 24 hours. Loving insights don’t always come immediately, but they always show up. a CYNDI DALE of Minneapolis is an internationally renowned author, speaker, healer and business consultant. Finding Permission to Rest Through My Pets JEN GWYNN-JONES MY HABIT OF VALUING MYSELF by productivity made it hard to rest when I needed to. It wasn’t until I was laid flat by burnout that I started to give a little room to the idea of not being productive. But could I give myself permission to rest? At first it felt really uncomfortable. My inner critic wouldn’t have it — resting is not productive; it’s self-indulgent. What am I good for if I just sleep? Even while at home, exhausted, my inner critic would compel me to seek validation of my worthiness through productivity. I found myself listing off the few menial tasks I managed to complete each day. I remember noticing the absurdity of my inner critic trying to demonstrate my worth by the number of chores I’d done. “See, I was good. Gold star for Jen?” My own thoughts were preventing me from resting. But then I noticed my cat and dog resting — and something shifted. They follow their nature, listen to their bodies, and sleep as much as they need. And I love them all the more for it. This was the tiny link I needed that helped me give myself permission to rest. My logical mind stepped it out like this: I am an animal like my cat and dog. A creature of flesh and bone albeit with an overthinking mind. They sleep when they need and don’t make a thing of it. They are lovable after sleeping all day, so maybe I, too, can listen to my body’s need for rest, and have that be okay. It wasn’t a grand moment of transcendence. Perhaps it’s downright dorky. But seeing my nature BY

Furry Best Friends are Best BY

reflected in them helped me give myself permission to have the deep rest I needed. To have it be okay. Recognizing our nature and reconnecting with the body can be a soothing antidote to the perpetual growth and production society values. This is an ongoing process for me and, as with all things in nature, it’s a matter of balance. a JEN GWYNN-JONES is a life coach, speaker and blogger based on the east coast of Australia, working with local and international clients, as well as collaborating globally with like-minded coaches. WHO EVER SAID YOU NEED a dog was right! Words cannot express how much dogs can bring to your life. The bountiful unending joy starts as soon as you see them and it stays with you forever. While dogs don’t talk like we do, they reach us beyond mere words. Dogs make great companions, because they mold their lives into yours in ways that you don’t see coming. Before you know it, your furry master has trained you into their very own dog parent. They use their eyes to melt our hearts, their ears perk up when they hear you talk, their tail wags when they see you. There is no comparison to how your house is full of love just by having your dog inside oozing their pure love everywhere. While their fur may get stuck on your clothes, just know that’s their way of staying with you all day. Each hair a legacy of love to keep you strong. Their warm and genuine greeting when you get home can cheer the darkest of days into sunshine inside your heart. While I’ve read dogs don’t like to be hugged, my dog puts up with my hugs daily and comes back for more. She teaches me that stretching in the morning is good for toning muscles. Having naps is divine, but going to bed early at night is what dreams are made of. Never fear when your dog is on duty, for they will hear even the slightest of silent door openings — and you better have a treat for them too with your late night snack as they peer at you when you thought they were sleeping. God knew exactly what He was doing when he created dogs. He took a piece of Himself and wrapped it in fur so we would know what divine love is, how to feel it, and see it in action. The love He has for us is conveyed to us in the eyes of a dog who loves us more than life itself. We have the best companions that teach us joys and sorrows as they stand by our side no matter the dilemma. Life is a journey better taken with love by your side. a MARIA LISA POLEGATTO grew up and lives in Nova Scotia, Canada, where she works full time.
