A TIME OF CHANGE BY

ERIC J. CHRISTOPHER

WE ARE IN ECLIPSE SEASON according to astrologers — June 5, 21, and July 4-5. Eclipses represent beginnings and endings. It’s not uncommon to experience turmoil that proceeds times of change, and that is precisely what we are experiencing now on the planet — with Covid-19, George Floyd’s murder, polarizing political beliefs, etc. As the consciousness level of the planet raises, it brings to the surface conditioned beliefs and subsequent actions that are not unifying and love based, that are not congruent with a high level of consciousness, both individually and collectively. We are in a time where the duality of third-dimensional thinking (blackwhite, good-bad, right-wrong) is exposing negative, divisive beliefs and patterns so they can be seen and recognized as no longer working and thus in need of transformation. When Steve Dinan, founder of The Shift Network, recently discussed racism, he stated, “There is simply no way for America or humanity to move forward as a species without transforming racism at the root level. Racist beliefs and policies are directly opposed to seeing each other as sacred beings, worthy of respect.

THE EDGE MAGAZINE 763.433.9291 P.O. Box 664, Anoka, MN 55303 www.edgemagazine.net PUBLISHERS TIM MIEJAN & CATHY JACOBSEN

Racist beliefs and policies suppress our collective creativity and our compassion. They reduce our ability, as a species, to learn and grow. They keep us stuck in cycles of oppression that fetter the human spirit.” These transformative times call for healing — and healing is an inside job that begins with awakening to our multitude of blind spots. For instance, if you’re not a person of color, you may be blind to the deep frustration, challenges and feelings of injustice that come from living as a minority. White privilege is about having the privilege to not think or worry about the color of your skin when you are walking in a park or stopped for a speeding ticket. Another significant blind spot is our identity beneath our human Earth suit. There will be a time when we all gather as souls and compare what Earth life was like in the various races and ethnicities that we chose to experience. Wouldn’t it be interesting and insightful if we could have this conversation while we are incarnate? We could more easily talk about the blatant and subtle injustices and frustrations without it feeling too raw and personal. We could more easily understand the point of view of others without our own bias filters getting in the way. Unfortunately,

much of society is currently unaware of the evidence that we are souls using this body for growth and experiential purposes. But that is also changing. Bit by bit, as a species we are beginning to crack out of the shell of ignorance into awareness of our transcendent nature. We are also in a time when judging others and their beliefs seems to be coming to a head in these politically polarizing times. It’s important for all human beings to make note that you may want to be careful about whom you judge because, as a soul, you may choose to incarnate into the very group of people that you most judge so you can learn understanding, compassion and balance. The goal is for all of us to learn that lesson while we’re here, so that we can live and operate from our true foundation of unity and love rather than our conditioned fears and beliefs that create divisions. A fascinating case study that demonstrates this is at www.ericjchristopher.com/if-we-knewwho-we-really-were/. I’ve recently read two beautiful pearls of wisdom that speak to the theme that I’m writing about here. They come from Suzanne Giesemann, a former U.S. naval commander and now medium and channel. Each day, she shares a few sentences of love and insights from teachers from across the veil called Sanaya. I would encourage anyone to sign up for these free daily reminders on her website at www.suzannegiesemann.com/daily-way/. In the first one, Sanaya says,”We ask you to examine your aspen trees. On the surface of one grove you see individual trees of varying sizes and ages, all appearing separate. Underneath what appears to be a surface — the earthly ground — lies a vast web of connections: the root system. What appears to be separate is but a web, connecting what? One living organism. The earthly ground hides this from you, yet the soil through which the living tree passes is vital to its existence. “For now, focus on the web of roots. Could you see yourselves at an energetic level, you would begin to understand why you experience so many connections and synchronicities with those you know and meet. Beneath the surface you are one organism. Think not in terms of the physical bodies. This is where you go astray. Think in terms of subtle energy — of Life Force — that which animates you. Perhaps you might call it ‘Love,’ and you would be correct. All is One. We will continue to use analogies and lessons of love until you finally know what the heart has never forgotten. You are so very loved.” The second one is called “Much Appreciated” found at Preview.mailerlite.com/x5y0t5/1436328863884908207/x5l0/. It offers some deep wisdom and suggestions that would benefit us all. Natalie Fowler, an author, psychic, medium (also my friend and neighbor), described our recent experience in an interesting way. She recently wrote: “The last few weeks have felt a little like we are living in a snow globe. But maybe our whole world needed to get shook up so we can settle it back together in a new and better way? Maybe it’s true what they say: Life happens for us, not to us.” As Eckhart Tolle says, we tend to grow the most personally and spiritually on the heels of tragedy. This means individually and as a society. May we all recognize that we are in the midst of tremendous growth opportunity now, depending on how we respond to challenges during this time. Many blessings to all! a ERIC J. CHRISTOPHER has a master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy, and is a certified hypnotherapist. NEW RELEASE

The Dalai Lama — Inner World Khandro Music will release Inner World, a unique album of mantras and teachings by His Holiness the Dalai Lama set to music, on July 6 to honor his 85th birthday celebrations. The album is considered a great dedication to the decades of the Dalai Lama’s vision and work for world peace and educating the heart. When asked why he accepted the request to make the album, he answered, “The very purpose of my life is to serve as much as I can.” He also added, “Music can help people in a way that I can’t.” “Music has the potential to reach many more people with the message that the real source of happiness is warm-heartedness and a concern for others. …Music has the potential to transcend our differences. It can return us to our true nature of goodheartedness.” Inner World is an offering of the Dalai Lama reciting mantras and giving short teachings, all woven into a bed of music. The album will be released in conjunction with an Inner World companion booklet, revealing the benefits of the mantras written by Venerable Robina Courtin, and exclusive, stunning artwork, a collaboration between the acclaimed New Zealand duo of Ella Brewer (classically trained Thanka Painter) and Tiffany Singh (an award-winning visual artist). This particular work of theirs is a combination of traditional Tibetan and contemporary art.   One track on the album, the “Compassion” mantra, is one of the most famous Buddhist prayers. Reciting the mantra of the Buddha of Compassion (known in Tibetan as Chenrezig and in Sanskrit as Avalokiteshvara) is said to open our hearts and bring us closer to others, to feel love and compassion through wisdom, generating a desire to help. The project’s co-executive producers, Junelle Kunin and her husband Abraham Kunin of New Zealand, spent five years working with a small team to bring the project to life. The Dalai Lama’s recordings have been thread through music composed by Abraham and performed on more than 30 instruments by himself and a cast of collaborators from around the world, including a special guest performance from Anoushka Shankar on “Ama La.” The composer integrated the live performances with artful programming and production, building a peaceful bedrock for these sacred offerings. Net proceeds from the sales of Inner World will go to: The Gaden Phodrang Foundation of the Dalai Lama chosen program Social, Emotional and Ethical Learning (SEE Learning), an international K-12 education program and part of an academic collaboration between Emory University and His Holiness; and Mind and Life Institute, which brings science and contemplative wisdom together to better understand the mind and create positive change in the world. Hope, Determination & ‘Education of the Mind’ The Dalai Lama shares a message in these fearful times BY THE

CENTER FOR HEALTHY MINDS

HUMANITY HAS AN opportunity to transform negative emotions like fear and anxiety into determination and compassion for others, according to His Holiness the Dalai Lama. This message of hope is front and center in the Dalai Lama’s recent video conversation with Dan Harris, ABC News anchor, and Richard Davidson, University of Wisconsin–Madison professor and founder of the Center for Healthy Minds. “We are human beings. We are social animals,” the 14th Dalai Lama told Harris and Davidson over video from Dharamsala, India. “Obviously our own experience of constant fear and constant anger destroys our inner peace. More compassionate feelings bring inner strength and inner peace… Helplessness – that’s a failure…our own cost.” The conversation comes at a time when many people around the world are experiencing unprecedented loss, hardship and isolation. Amid the recent events such as the Covid-19 pandemic, the World Health Organization has warned that a global mental health crisis is likely to

follow, and many thought-leaders like the Dalai Lama, Harris and Davidson are sharing insights and tools to promote emotional well-being. For the past 28 years, the leader of Tibetan Buddhism has partnered with scientists, including UW–Madison’s Davidson, to inspire research on how people can alter their thinking, emotions and behavior toward a kinder, wiser, more compassionate world. Davidson is well-known for his scientific work unearthing the impacts of meditation and other prosocial qualities, such as compassion on the brain. Such evidence — along with other research generated by the scientific community — has fueled the Dalai Lama’s promotion of “secular ethics,” which are altruistic values deep-seated in human nature that anyone can nurture, regardless of background or religion. The Dalai Lama described mental training, including meditation practice, as a transformative tool to not only sharpen the mind, but also to increase people’s altruism and compassion toward each other. The Dalai Lama and Davidson have explored how these practices can best serve others and how every human being shares the same wish to be happy and be free of suffering. Davidson says his aspiration is that someday, mental exercise of this kind will be as commonly practiced as brushing one’s teeth. If people took just a few minutes

each day to nurture positive qualities of mind, the world would be a very different place. This is one reason why the Dalai Lama thinks a new form of education is needed that focuses on the mind, emotion and a person’s inner world. Often these insights are outcomes of practicing various forms of meditation, and there are numerous tools available online to practice mental training, including Davidson’s Healthy Minds Program (led by the nonprofit he founded, Healthy Minds Innovations) and Harris’ meditation platform Ten Percent Happier. Both mobile apps have been offering free meditation practices and mental health tools during the pandemic. In addition, grief and other negative emotions have overwhelmed many around the world. Harris, who lives in New York City, which has been particularly hard-hit by Covid-19 in the United States, reflected on the different ways grief can take shape. Because of the risks of coronavirus to others and the number of people sick, many people are

unable to say goodbye to loved ones. Millions of others are also grieving about losing their previous life, which has been upended by the pandemic. How can the world process such grief? The Dalai Lama reiterated that despite the deep sadness, there are glimmers of hope and opportunities to expand care for the whole world. “Taking care of others is actually taking care of yourself,” he said, noting that the best way to take care of your own happiness is to take care of one’s community. ABC News Live and Good Morning America recently featured the video conversation and a longer-form interview is available on the Ten Percent Happier podcast at www.tenpecent.com/ podcast-episode/the-dalailama-251. a THE CENTER FOR HEALTHY MINDS at the University of Wisconsin-Madison is a place where we exercise our minds just like we exercise our bodies, and a place where transforming your mind not only improves your own well-being, but cascades to the well-being of others in your community and around the globe. Harness Your Heart’s Purpose A Pleiadian Message BY CHRISTINE DAY BELOVED ONES, WE GREET YOU. A further shift within the energetic core within your Earth is creating an expanded focus, almost like a magnification of the higher frequencies that open up an expanded light framework. This “frame” is currently playing the role of a network that surrounds your planet and has been evolving over this period of time. This Network of Light continues to shift and transform itself to carry the reflected change of a landscape of multidimensional components that now make up planet Earth. The Earth’s profile has changed and continues to unfold through an intensification of a light pulse emanating from the magnetic core and interacting within the grids, vortexes and ley lines throughout the planet. These pulses are affecting and deepening the interaction between all the sacred sites throughout Earth, and this process is building an added intensity within the Earth’s webbing. These higher dimensional light framework designs are creating an environment to hold the extreme drama, which is destined to continue to unfold over the coming months. Earth’s shifting frequencies also are being reflected within our resident Universe. The light from the central space of your planet is radiating out at a higher light vibration, and that is contributing to an expanded frequency patterning within our Universe. “The God Seat of Power” that extends beyond this Universe is now interactive within the movement of a fluid platform on Earth and throughout this entire resident Universe. The higher knowledge from “the God Seat of Power” benefits our Universe by bringing a higher state of collective consciousness to every life force group within the Universe, including humankind. This is the action of our collective destinies, for we, and all of our Universal groups, are One within the God consciousness state. COLLECTIVE AWAKENING This next step action of Earth’s reemergence within the Universe is significant for all of humanity. Through the holy component of the light, of love, which is being reflected onto your planet, many re-openings and natural re-awakenings will occur. The frequency of the love is designed to reconstruct the multidimensional components of your heart to enable you to significantly accelerate into a collective awakening. Earth’s future role within the Universe is destined to be significant. As the energetic frequency of light further intensifies and transforms on your planet, a higher resonance of vibrational love is ignited to actively interact throughout the Universe. The God consciousness network will realign Earth within the Universe and beyond. Your Earth plane is being realigned to this higher order of God consciousness at this juncture. That will reveal, and activate, a series of higher-elevated frequency platforms that have previously not been accessible to you as a race. Within these newly formed energetic platforms exist dynamic flows of electrical light that is drawing out the density within your planet’s physical structure and within the human physical form. There has been an unearthing of this density, which has been hidden and held within humanity and locked up until this juncture. The internal pulse within your Earth plane is creating a lifting of this old, dark, hidden intensity, creating upheaval and the intense third-dimensional drama. The violence and turmoil arising within your communities is part of the overall process to bring about a new balance and a new order of Truth to be set in motion within your communities. The uprising is the result of hidden pain, suffering and suppression. Through the higher light frequency anchoring onto the planet, this imbalance can be tolerated no more. Suppression and oppression through the prejudice and a lack of justice can no longer continue 8  WWW.EDGEMAGAZINE.NET

within this higher energetic environment. Truth is being revealed. This is essential at this time within your communities. A new order of unity will evolve within your society, and each one of you plays a role within this changing cycle. As you choose to move and align within your heart, you anchor Truth, which establishes a beginning of this new order directive to birth within your communities.

YOUR OWN HEART Our message to you is to live within the integrity of your own heart. Allow the frequency of light to shine forth from your heart. As you hold a steady platform of reconnection within your heart, you are creating reconnection. You are able to utilize the powerful, pure light energy within your planet through your heart to support this transition and much-needed change within humanity. Those of you on this awakened path have pre-agreed to anchor this unlimited energy of light flow that exists within you to imprint your unique frequency of God light through the heart to support the shift of the whole of humanity. You get to consciously choose these sacred moments of reconnection within your heart space. This is your individual role right now. There is nothing more essential than to take this action and anchor a new wave of consciousness within your heart. This frequency of change can flow naturally from your heart and out across your planet, creating an unfolding base for all humanity to transform. Simultaneously, this also is the time for you to do some deep introspective work within your human component. This is about you creating building blocks of stabilization for your human element to enable a balance to be bridged between your multidimensional nature and your humanity. Work within your humanness by focusing on the feelings that are arising within you. Every feeling that is surfacing within you is being triggered, directly linked to events that are transpiring within your outer world. Spend the time examining the depth of your feelings, owning those feelings, whatever they are. Feelings do not define you, and your feelings don’t have to make any logical sense. You are being triggered by the varied diverse happenings that are taking place within your life, within your world. These deeply lodged feelings have been within you. They are unresolved feelings from past experiences that you were unable to express at the moment of the experience. Whatever the feelings — whether they are fear, struggle, anger, rage, betrayal or simply feeling out of control — the content does not matter. What really matters is that you can take this time to feel what is coming up inside of you and what is being mirrored

by the events around you. Simply feel the depth of the feelings and use the conscious breath (in and out of the mouth) to work deeply within these expressions as they arise within you. You can liberate yourself. Let go of old patterns from the past that have kept you in that cycle of self-sabotage in your day-to-day life. This is the time for self-resurrection!

DESTINED TO UNITE Together, as a community, you are destined to unite within your hearts. The only true meeting point is within your hearts. The heart is beyond the corrupt energy of your ego mind. The sacred heart communion is the most profound reference point that holds pure Truth and love within Earth’s environment. The collective Truth of joined hearts can never be tainted. It creates an anchor base of pure love for humanity to birth. This frequency of love is necessary to set in motion the evolution of a higher paradigm within Earth, re-anchoring sacred elements on your planet and re-establishing the element of “Heaven on Earth.” Keep letting go and trusting the vastness of your own heart. In Truth, you can. This time of huge transformation, and transmutation, is being supported by the entire Universal community to allow for the unfolding of a full potential of your planet Earth so you and your communities can emerge into an authentic unique aspect of the God light network. Each one of you contributes to this network with your unique colors of God. “Like a butterfly emerging from a cocoon, you spread your wings and take flight.” LETTING GO Through the duration of this third-dimensional chaos, you are being called to open into a continual letting-go process. You are to hold your focus within your heart and open into letting go, and then choose to let go on another level. “Letting go” is the conscious choice of realigning to your rebirth. This letting go is done in increments as you move into transformation one step at a time. As you let go, you are allowing a continual falling away of the illusion that you have been holding onto. With each conscious breath you take within your heart, you simply choose change. Allow your attachments to the agenda of your ego mind to fall away. This is self-liberation. Allow your heart to guide you. Breathe into the letting go of limitation as you embrace a whole new world of possibilities for yourself within the heart. As you choose to let go of the old debris connected to the illusion of the ego mind, you set yourself free to have more expanded experiences within the heart. Simply choose to witness the drama and do not engage within the drama. Your next step is to consciously anchor your awareness within your multidimensional heart and allow a series of conscious choice moments of unfolding to occur within your heart. This is the action of you birthing you through your multidimensional heart. There is

nothing more powerful for you to set in motion right now than this action of self-fulfillment within your heart. Know that you are not alone in this journey. Call forth the help you require in your day-to-day living to fully navigate through this time. Be specific in what you are asking to receive for yourself — your needs, your desires. Claim your abundance and know that the activation of your own creation energy elements arises within your heart. Let go and trust the unfolding within your life that is in front of you. Each day open up in gratitude for all that you have in this moment. Through you taking ownership of your own creation in your world, you can align to a more focused part of your energy that exists within your heart. Be the active creator of your world through your heart. Set in motion a wave of creation energy from your heart outwards into your life by generating and building the energy of your heart’s desire. Your true action of power lies within you as you actively work within your heart.

THE PROCESS This process is simple. It is designed for you to harness your heart’s multidimensional purpose in your life and to activate your heart’s desire in your life. 1. Hold your heart with both palms resting on your chest. Align with your awareness and a conscious breath (breathing in and out of the mouth). 2. Once you have anchored in your heart energy, begin to build the thought of your heart’s desire within your heart. You achieve this by bringing your awareness to your desire, with the color, the form or details of the desire. Your heart will respond, whether you see, sense or feel this building energy or essence of your desire. There may be a feeling of excitement or joy that is arising within you! 3. Once you have built the energy of the desire within your heart, bring the sound — ENTAH EEE — within your heart. This will release the energy of your desire to become manifest within your life. Note: Bring as many sounds as you need until it feels complete. As you create with your heart, you begin to actively align within this higher network on your Earth plane. Your conscious choice to join this higher network of light is another step of your mission. We hold you, and witness you, on your journey. Slowing Down Can Be the Kiss of Life BY CHARLES GARFIELD An excerpt from Our Wisdom Years

IF SOMEONE HAD TOLD me when I was in my late fifties that idle time was what would propel me toward the most fulfilling stage of my life, I would’ve laughed at the irony and said I was way too busy for that. Ease was not part of my universe. I didn’t make fun of people who talked about relaxation or letting up on the pace or doing things just for the pleasure of it. That was fine for them. But I’d been pushing myself since before kindergarten, and I had no sense of what life would be like if I didn’t have to be bigger, better, best, no matter what I took on — not just in the business world, but in my personal life and social service work.
In my mind, there was no such thing as stopping; if a goal successfully achieved didn’t lead to a more difficult or higher goal, it wasn’t worth it. When those questioning CEOs asked what they might do next after their careers, I’m afraid I tacitly discouraged them from the fishing and dreaming they longed for and needed. I didn’t say, “Don’t do it.” I just dismissed their longing reveries by saying, in so many words, “Oh, I could never do that.”
I admit I was a hard case. But many of us have our own deeply ingrained sense that there are certain standards we must always reach, a certain kind of focus and strength and competence we always have to bring to our lives as leaders or parents or “good examples” — an ability to push on, no matter how tired. That’s who we are.
Fortunately, for the many of us who spent our adult years feeling driven in one way or another, our bodies eventually begin to tell us that they’re not perpetual-motion machines, and our Wise Self 1 0  WWW.EDGEMAGAZINE.NET

finds ways to penetrate the white noise of our nonstop routines to send a quiet message: “I’m done. I can’t keep doing this. It’s not me anymore.” The trick, when this happens, is not to resist or rush past it, but to wander in the place of unknowing where nothing feels quite right anymore. Space opens up around us as we wait for something new to emerge. And quite often, grace flies in through that opening.
I was laid low, at first, during the four years I struggled with my arthritic hip. Because I’d prided myself on being athletic, it was a blow to my ego and my sense of self, not just to my mobility, when suddenly every step I took was slow and painful. Anytime I forgot myself and tried to rush, a stabbing pain brought me back to my new reality: I had to slow down.
I hated knowing that I was now the guy who would still be in the crosswalk when the signal turned, trying to get across. I resented having to sit down so often to rest. I wanted to hike, not be stuck on a park bench. All I could see was diminishment and decline, and as I quietly railed against it, I was a depressed and cranky old man. But as time went on, the slowdown created a kind of spaciousness in me, an unplanned opportunity for reflection. When I sat down to rest, I’d look at the people passing by and wonder about them and how their lives were going. People I’d never noticed — older folks, street people, neighbors walking dogs — began to catch my eye and say hello. I remember being in the middle of a crosswalk when a man slowly going the other way pointed to my hip as I limped by. “Right hip,” I said. He pointed to his leg and smiled. “Knee,” he said. We both laughed,

wounded brothers.
Slowly, almost imperceptibly, a whole world opened up. This steady stream of connection with the people around me was calling to me. I began to enjoy my time in slow motion, the pauses for rest when I’d think about my life, gaze into the trees, pick up ongoing threads of conversation
from the day before. All of it, the thinking, the chats, the sense of being woven into my community, receiving small acts of kindness from them and returning smiles and kindness, felt — and feels — as important to me as anything I have ever done. There was so much more to me than my aching hip, so much more to value than the next thing on my list. I felt my reality take shape around the axis of now, not some point in the future. And as that happened, I stopped being the guy with better things to do than inhabit his own life. I started to be present there on my corner, on my street, on my bench. I became intimate with my life again.
Is this “successful aging?” I’m fairly certain that’s not what the success mavens had in mind. But is it rich and satisfying? Yes, it is. It feeds a hunger I never realized I had, and even after surgery replaced my hip and made slowing down less necessary, I’m savoring what I’ve learned to be.
We have a terribly incomplete model of what it means to grow older. I mentioned the way we tend to celebrate the showy blooms of youth and often feel bereft when the flowers scatter, leaving the branches bare. But I’d like to suggest that what happens next, after the flowers are gone, is the point of it all. The fruit within us ripens invisibly then, the sweet essence of ourselves that we’re here to cultivate at this time of life. Our goal now isn’t achievement or success for their own sake. It’s to tend this fruit — our wisdom, our fascinations, our kindness, our hearts softened by loss and love, selves made sweet and deepened by time — and give it all away. a CHARLES GARFIELD, PhD, is the founder of: Shanti, an internationally honored volunteer organization dedicated to the care of the dying, the elderly, and those living with cancer and AIDS; the Shanti National Training Institute, which has taken Shanti’s model to organizations around the country and world; and Shanti’s newest program that serves older LGBTQ individuals. JULY HOROSCOPE

The Body Politic Mercurial Messages through the Zodiac BY HEATHER ROAN ROBBINS THROUGHOUT ALL OF 2020, the planets ask us to remember that our spiritual life and our relationships are embedded in the body politic, and the body politic needs our help. We can feel pulled between the personal and the political as the month begins, with both the sun and Mercury retrograde in deep-feeling Cancer sending us back to review both our personal history and that of our country to understand the roots of discomfort and take healing to a deeper level. Tempers stay feisty for the next six months as action-oriented Mars in feisty Aries turns up the heat under all we do. This heat can motivate us, but also spark explosions wherever we feel stuck. A lunar eclipse on July 4 underlines this spark and asks us to clear space and redefine what we celebrate. We may need to let go of a friend, place or assumption in order to take a fresh road forward. Mercury turns direct July 12 and asks us to write the future in the face of a new understanding of the past. Engage creativity to look for healthy solutions to conflicting needs July 14-20 as the sun opposes Jupiter, Pluto and Saturn. Enjoy that creative approach throughout the community after the sun enters Leo July 22. Aries (Mar. 21-Apr. 19)…You can lead or you can react — decide what to fight for, not against. Nest, take care of the home front, research your next step, but prioritize slow, safe, and thoughtfully until July 12. Now, focus on the future and implement. Set a clear, kind boundary July 27. Taurus (Apr. 20-May 20)…Old friends, old loves and old passions all need your attention, but don’t reengage on the old terms even if ancient scars get tweaked. Stay here and now. Engage the creative process July 26-28; it may be hard to see clearly what’s going on, but imagination flows. Gemini (May 21-June 20)…Your community may be having a difficult month, and you want to fix the problem. You cannot. But you can love them, keep the conversation going, and support people while they transform. Listen more than talk until after July 12; look for a shift in gears July 22. Cancer (June 21-July 22)…Be clear what you want professionally, step forward with your good ideas and with patience, and show how your ideas can help. Challenge authority thoughtfully. Engage helpfully through a rolling agenda mid-month, then step back and take care of your relationship with beloveds after July 22. Leo (July 23-Aug. 22)…The energy supports you as the month begins, then winds pick up. Watch for wild cards between the eclipse and July 20. Step into your element as the sun enters Leo July 22, but practice

patience; you may want to leap just when you need to walk steadily. Virgo (Aug. 23-Sept. 22)…Warm up your social life, and reconnect with old friends and work projects early in July. Take July 12-20 as a spiritual retreat; events may feel mythical. Enjoy a change, joke or new perspective around July 23. Stay safe July 27, then re-engage spirit and beauty. Libra (Sept. 23-Oct. 22)…Your beloveds and advisors may act out and need patience in early July. It’s not about you, so don’t take it personally. Believe in them and ask good questions. Communication gets easier after July 12; take time to work through issues mid-month, then feed the soul and nurture love. Scorpio (Oct. 23-Nov. 21)…Go gently, forgive yourself first, then it’s easier to forgive others; otherwise it can be easy to armor up and sound more aggressive than you mean. Find a safe place to be of service for an animal or person who needs you, a cause that needs your voice. Sagittarius (Nov. 22-Dec. 21…Watch that your signals aren’t crossed at the beginning of the month; be painfully clear. Be there for people who need you mid-month; let your inner hero shine. Reach out and invest in new friendships, romance, new connections and work contacts from July 22 on. Capricorn (Dec. 22-Jan.19)…Your restlessness may make you itchy about domestic situations, so make that garden bigger, clear a closet. Think about where you want to move, whether you’re moving philosophically, in your personal identity or in your house. Finish a chunk of karmic work before winter; a new chapter beckons. Aquarius (Jan. 20-Feb. 18)…You’re called to grow in your maturity and wisdom in the next few years. You have already been given a taste of the work to come, but as Saturn backs out of Aquarius for a few months, it is time to review and complete old chapters. Take a deep breath, but don’t be turned backwards. Pisces (Feb. 19-Mar. 20)…Through mid-July watch impulsive buys, sudden movements or minor accidents because you’re in a rush; easy, strong and steady does it. Straighten out misunderstandings mid-month. Be kind to your sensitivities, but don’t let them limit your options. Prepare room for new people arriving in the months ahead. a HEATHER ROAN ROBBINS is a heart-centered and choice-oriented astrologer, palmist and ceremonialist with 30+ years’ experience. How to Defeat What’s Defeating You BY

GUY FINLEY

THE BIGGEST PROBLEM facing us as individuals is that we have all been caught up in the race of looking for relief. Our time would be spent far more profitably looking for strength. We would never tolerate a dictatorial government, so why do we put up with all of the inner tyrants, including the chief dictator, better known as the false self? We need not. A revolt is necessary, and I can promise you that victory is assured. However, you must revolt intelligently. Don’t waste your time planning a coup in the workplace or at home. Leave your relationships alone. They are not the problem. If you want to live the everpleasant, ever-present life, the only regime you must overthrow is your present way of thinking. The first step in this right rebellion to reclaim your own life is to learn what it means to think toward yourself instead of from yourself. The difference is when you learn to think toward your thinking, this special kind of self-separation allows you to question its intelligence. This is a highly intelligent act, because thinking from your self lets unexamined thoughts race into action. For instance, saying yes when you mean to say no, or vice versa, is a small but painful illustration of what happens to us when we don’t examine our thoughts and feelings before speaking. Resentment almost always follows. And, as we are learning, one of the chief tricks of the false self is to make you think that what it wants is what you want. In this case, the false self loves to feel resentful. Resenting someone is like a pleasure cruise on a luxury liner for this shallow nature, because it can crash and sink itself again and again over the situation — a situation, incidentally, whose wreckage you are left to clean up. So, you see it can be highly profitable to challenge your own thinking. Just as you would never buy a sack of diamonds without first confirming the seller’s professional standing and the stones’ actual value, you should never buy any of your own thoughts or feelings until you are certain of their source and that they are indeed yours! I’m sure that we can all agree that no intelligent, conscious man or woman would ever intentionally hurt him or herself. No one would choose to ache. Yet, the fact remains that all of us do hurt ourselves every day with bursts of anger or fits of depression or anxiety. 1 2  WWW.EDGEMAGAZINE.NET

There can be no doubt that fear and worry exact a definite toll on all levels of our health and well-being. Intelligent, conscious beings would never intentionally hurt themselves, but we somehow manage to do just that in one way or another almost every day. So, how do we reconcile this contradiction? There is only one possible conclusion that we can draw from these facts: we must be unconscious while thinking that we are awake! In other words, during those times of self-betrayal when we are hurting ourselves or others with negative inner states, even though our eyes are open and all kinds of sensations are coursing through us, we must be asleep to what we are doing to ourselves or we wouldn’t be doing it. Somehow we have become separated from the real Intelligence within us that knows better than to punish itself. There is never any intelligent reason to feel bad. If you will only let these truthful ideas prove this astonishing fact to you, one day this new understanding will go before you and defeat all that has been defeating you. Now comes an important moment in our self-questioning. If real Intelligence is incapable of hurting itself, then how can we call any thinking that leads to a stressful state intelligent? Let’s review briefly. Intelligence does not cause itself to suffer. Yet, as proven, we suffer. This can only mean that a counterfeit intelligence has been passed off on us and we’ve accepted its thinking as our very own. There is only one way that such a sinister switch could take place within us and go undetected. During those all-too-familiar, worry-packed moments, we are asleep to ourselves. In this strange psychic slumber we only dream we are awake. Since unawareness of our selves is the only problem, then awareness is the only answer. You may not be able to think your way out, but you can see your way clear. This special kind of inner seeing is safety. Waking up to your self is the same as letting go of all those self-defeating thoughts and feelings that have been telling you how to win. a GUY FINLEY is the best-selling author of The Secret of Letting Go, The Essential Laws of Fearless Living, and more than 40 books and audio albums on self-realization. Missing, Found In Nature: You DEAN FRASER NATURE IS GOOD for the soul. Our ancestors lived a life much closer to nature. They noticed the passing seasons and how to read coming weather changes. Is it any wonder given our usual fast-forward lifestyle that so many people in the 21st century have lost an inherent spirituality? I am not talking solely about organized religion here. I mean looking within ourselves and thinking about who we fundamentally really are. Why we here on this planet at this moment? Think of walking in a forest after a fresh shower of rain, those heady scents combined with the sound of birdsong high above in the trees. Sitting by a seashore as roaring waves crash in on the beach or perhaps soothingly lap gently onto the shore. The beauty of visually taking in all the wonder of a meadow resplendent with a kaleidoscope of wildflowers. The drama of a wild thunderstorm. Looking up as an eagle majestically soars against a stunning sunset. To be out on a crisp winters evening, the sky purest black and a million stars twinkling like diamonds. Or a scorching hot summer’s day, feeling the sun warming on our backs and experiencing true contentment. This is real life. This is directly appreciating freely given beauty, the beauty of nature, of our own natures; and it is all waiting right there as it has always been. Waiting for you and me to feel it through all of our senses, with every breath down through every atom of our very being! So, what would you rather enjoy? Any one of these amazing natural experiences or spending time looking at your phone? Why not go take a walk instead? Living 24/7 in completely artificial enviBY

ronments stifles creativity and deadens our intuition. If like me, you live in an urban environment, allow me to make a suggestion — and I ask you to at least give it a go. If you are one of those people who doesn’t usually have the time for nature or perhaps even finds the prospect of exploring wilderness areas scary, how about you take only half an hour a couple of times a week to visit your local park? Simply sit and observe. Leave aside the headphones and no cheating yourself out of the experience by talking or texting on the phone! Look at the trees, the grass and then listen. Hear birdsong? Do the trees make a noise? Rustling poplars or creaking old oaks. Breathe in the scents. Soak up the sights, sounds and smells. Feel on every level what it is like to be there. Like we cannot step into the same water of a river twice, every time we visit nature it will be different.

Slowly, but absolutely surely, your awareness of nature will grow stronger and you will find yourself looking forward to these visits to the park — at some point maybe venturing a little further outside your town or city to explore some more untamed nature. Exercise in nature is my first choice every time. Walking, running or tai chi within a natural setting is far from only taking exercise — it is wonderfully inspirational. Some of my best ideas have popped into my head way out in the wilderness or in the middle of a deserted, ancient, Neolithic site, and very rarely in the middle of a busy city! As I lead a fairly public life, my way of finding some battery recharging time is taking myself out for an all-day solo coastal walk or deep down into the forest. This is especially effective in the heart of winter when the harsh weather discourages many others from venturing outside. It is for sure a challenge in this era in which we live to find ourselves some true seclusion. I have to say though, a gale force wind and driving rain usually means I am going to enjoy the beach pretty much to myself and with the magical bonus of making me feel wonderfully alive, leaving me with a heart full of gratitude for nature in all her extremes. Take the time to take some time out for you — there is always a way. Amazing experiences and awesome good health are our right. a DEAN FRASER is deeply grateful that he gets to do what he loves the most, which is create beautiful things. CO N F R O N T I N G R AC I S M I N A M E R I C A F * CK THE LIGHT

WE HAVE TO FACE THE DARKNESS WE’VE CREATED BY KERI MANGIS Originally published in Elephant Journal, www.elephantjournal.com

EARLIER THIS WEEK I led a virtual discussion from my home in Minneapolis. The topic, which was set back in March, was embracing discomfort. On the day of the event, the host and I agreed that it still felt like the right topic (and maybe even more so) given the events unfolding in our beloved city in response to the murder of George Floyd. In this event, I talked about how, in America specifically, we are conditioned from a young age against experiencing, talking about, or expressing discomfort. I pointed out how we are given a plethora of “quick fixes” like products, quotes and excuses to defend against feelings of discomfort. I shared how so much of what we believe is held unconsciously, and that many of our beliefs were hardwired into us from a young age through cultural conditioning. And that this includes, for white people, unconscious (and conscious) racist beliefs. These racist beliefs, and the associated behaviors, organizations, laws and systems, don’t always get handed down directly through words, but rather more subtly through examples found in our own lives, in the media, in our entertainment. In other words, the collective consciousness shapes us throughout our lifetimes to align with the culture at large; that is, the culture as defined by those in power. It is the collective consciousness that Daniel Quinn is referring to in his book Ishmael when he writes: “The mythology of your culture hus in your ears so constantly that no one pays the slightest bit of attention to it.” After a certain point, we don’t even know it’s happening — maybe we never have. Perhaps the entire lot of our beliefs are simply hand-me-downs that have gone unexamined for our whole lives. And yet, there they sit, driving our behavior, shaping our worldview, making us repeat the same mistakes, and causing the same pain, again and again. Implicit and unconscious biases aren’t always our fault, but they are our responsibility. During the check-in that followed, one participant mentioned that, while I was talking, they got a notification from their phone app. Their heart rate had increased considerably during the talk. The first thing I felt upon hearing this was guilt. And also, a sense of failure. I thought: I’m a spiritual teacher. I’m supposed to help people feel better, not worse. I’m supposed to help people find their calm, not lose it. This was an uncomfortable thought.

But the workshop was about embracing discomfort. My own teachings boomeranged back at me, asking me to examine my beliefs about what a spiritual teacher “should” and “should not” do. Spiritual practice in America, in the 21st century, is primarily centered around the light. We’re all about finding the light, visualizing the light, being the light, channeling the light. The “light” can mean quiet, but it doesn’t bring peace. It could mean love, but it doesn’t always involve justice. It can mean calm, but it doesn’t always mean fairness. And yet, we spiritual practitioners crave the light. We always have. It’s likely what drew us to these practices in the first place. And there’s certainly nothing wrong with seeking the light. But right now, I’m seeing too many spiritual leaders — white spiritual leaders, to be precise — using their powerful platforms in the same way they’ve always used them. These are phrases that have come across my social media lately: • “Be beacons of light.” • “Be clear channels so we can receive and send light, information and energy.” • “Activate the grids to lighten the path and being grounding and stability.” I know now where my thoughts and beliefs about the role of spiritual teachers came from. They came from teachings like the above — recycled, reissued, reused in every single crisis. I never took a vow professing my love for and commitment to the light. I didn’t sign an agreement that, as a spiritual teacher,

I would always exude and cultivate calming, relaxing energy. I’ve just believed it to be true that that was my job. I adopted the beliefs, largely unconsciously, and then the behaviors followed. Not unlike how Amy Cooper [ who called police in Central Park when a black man asked her to leash her dog ] never had to be told to believe that her relationship with the police was on a whole different plane than a black man’s relationship with the police. She just knew. And the behaviors, her tone of voice, and her words followed. The world is crying out for us all to change. For us all to examine our long-held beliefs, no matter how hard-set or timeworn. And not just the surface beliefs, but the ones that have run rampant and unconscious within us. This “us” does not exempt spiritual teachers and practitioners. Our feet are being held to the fire, too. We do not get to escape to the light. What might our role as spiritual teachers and practitioners be in this new world? It’s anyone’s guess, but perhaps it will no longer include being complicit in helping people bypass, cover-up or temporarily forget the pain. Spiritual bypassing is a real thing that must be called out and rejected. Maybe in this new world, we will stop thinking of ourselves and each other as fragile and sensitive. Perhaps we will stop saying things like, “I can’t watch that video, it hurts my heart,” or using our new-found status as an empath to avoid feeling deeply. Maybe instead, in this new world, we start believing in and fostering tenacity, courage and resilience of human beings.

Perhaps we challenge rather than comfort — question rather than accept. And create rather than regurgitate. I don’t know much about the new world, but I do know that we will need a new kind of human being, and particularly, a new type of awakened spiritual being. But right now, in a world that is on fire in so many ways, the old language of love and light is nothing more than spiritual bypassing. Here’s what else it is: dismissive. It’s superior. It’s escapism. After all, how many people have the opportunity to withdraw into the light right now? Not George Floyd’s family, that’s for sure. So, nor should we. Love and light language right now are also detached, passive, arrogant and condescending. The light that we’ve coveted and chased and desired is blinding us. Can we not see that “be the light” teachings, especially right now, are an example of spiritual privilege, which is just as damaging as white privilege? Can we not see how retreating into the light is often a pseudonym for retreating into the “white?” It’s uncomfortable to lead people into darkness and discomfort. It’s against the unspoken rules to make people feel uncomfortable when they leave your page, event, or class than when they came in. But we’re turning the world upside down right now for a reason: the old world wasn’t working. The former world wasn’t big enough, loving enough, inclusive enough, ➤ see THE DARKNESS on p. 16 JULY 2020 THE EDGE

THE DARKNESS

continued from p. 15

or fair enough. And so, the old teachings are no longer good enough, either. For a body to heal, the entire body needs to get involved. Some parts cannot escape and expect the other parts to carry the whole burden alone. Our legs don’t get to go for our run on their own if our back is in pain. Black people are not responsible for carrying the burden of racism and white supremacy. They did not create these things. White people did. We must face it. Spiritual teachers and practitioners, it’s time for us to go into the darkness. Willingly, and without knowing how to guide in this new space. Without knowing what to say, or how to be, or how to feel. This hard work is we really signed up for, isn’t it? Before we got distracted by the light? The term “darkness,” by the way, does not equate to “evil.” It means confusion and instability. It means mystery, possibility, and imagination. It means many things that our current world (the old world) rejects: stillness, slowness, disjointedness, muddiness, chaos, anger, frustration, destruction, and pain. The darkness has as much to teach us as the light, and perhaps more right now. But to enter, we must release the tools of the old world. The old mantras, the old habits, the old routines, and teachings won’t work where we’re going. We are going to have to find new ones. Better ones. Stronger ones. Ones we get from each other, not from spiritual texts. For once, maybe we’re not supposed to regain our stability. Not yet, anyway. We’re supposed to be off-balance, off-kilter, confused, saddened, angry, and overwhelmed. Maybe we’re supposed to be knocked off our feet and stay down there for a while. Maybe we’re not supposed to pick ourselves back up yet. There is a time for clarity, calm, understanding, and comfort. And there is a time for confusion, chaos, seeking, and discomfort. We are in the latter time. And the sooner we accept that, the sooner we can create 1 6  WWW.EDGEMAGAZINE.NET

the new world — the one we all say we want. As a spiritual teacher and practitioner, I recognize that it is time to change my beliefs. I believe that my definition of what it is to be spiritual needs to adapt to include making people’s hearts race. I believe that our hearts are more durable than we give ourselves credit for. I believe that we are not the sensitive creatures we’ve let ourselves believe, which has turned us away from difficult topics so many times before. I believe that this is not the time to right ourselves. That it’s okay if we break apart. I believe breaking down is good for us because, in doing so, we also break open. I believe leadership is not always about being in front, but sometimes remaining behind or alongside. I believe that compassion and empathy demand softer hearts that have been melted through pain, trial, and discomfort of all kinds. I believe it’s time we stop seeking comfort but instead embrace discomfort. Stop seeking clarity and start embracing confusion. Stop seeking comfort and start embracing what’s frightening. So, f*ck the light for a while. It will always be there. It’ll wait for us, even. For right now, though, it’s time we walk into the darkness. Stop. Focus. BY

REV. ALAN L. PRITZ

THE PURPOSE OF THIS article is to address what is so evidently on many peoples’ minds. It is challenging to provide spiritual insight when the psychic tsunami sweeping the country and world vacillates between condemning or condoning riots and violence as a means to promote societal change. Often cited are these remarks by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.:
“Certain conditions continue to exist in our society, which must be condemned as vigorously as we condemn riots. But in the final analysis, a riot is the language of the unheard. And what is it that America has failed to hear? It has failed to hear that the plight of the Negro poor has worsened over the last few years. It has failed to hear that the promises of freedom and justice have not been met. And it has failed to hear that large segments of white society are more concerned about tranquility and the status quo than about justice, equality and humanity. In a real sense our nation’s summers of riots are caused by our nation’s winters of delay. And as long as America postpones justice, we stand in the position of having these recurrences of violence and riots over and over again. Social justice and progress are the absolute guarantors of riot prevention.” Dr. King also said, “Every time a riot develops, it helps George Wallace.” (For those who don’t know, Wallace was a governor of Alabama and presidential candidate in 1968 who opposed racial integration.)
This is not about taking sides or being clever in justifying positions. Spiritual practices are deeper than the shifting circumstances of any group in any period of time. This isn’t the first time in history that inequity has existed, nor will it be the last. And, yes, individuals and groups have suffered grievously as a result. Nor is it a justification for such. Note the following: “Whenever virtue declines and vice predominates, I incarnate as an Avatar. In visible form I appear to destroy evil and re-establish virtue” (BhagavadGita IV: 7-8). Clearly the Divine is vested in the world drama. Yet, no World Teacher has counseled anything contrary to the laws of harmony and righteousness. All situations are platforms upon which individual spiritual battles must be fought, hence the reason for the Golden Rule, the 10 Commandments, the Yamas and Niyamas. Each addresses the need for right behavior, regardless of the hypnotic intoxication of world dynamics.
Spiritual principles reflect cosmic laws that don’t conform to situational application or human approval. This doesn’t minimize the desire to alter social conditions if one feels inwardly directed to do so. But, it changes how one acts, because there is a deeper foundation of higher understanding at play. Lasting change involves self-control harnessed to practices that foster harmony, righteousness — and above all else — Self-realization. Without these remaining constant, all spiritual practices are but superficial window dressing that can be discarded if not deemed situationally convenient. a REV. T H E COV I D -19 V I R U S

Pandemic Thoughts CAROLYN CHILTON CASAS AROUND THE MIDDLE of May, I started feeling an uneasy melancholy about the state our world was in. It took me off guard. Our family had been fortunate. We had not lost anyone in our circle from Covid-19. In our less-populated West Coast county, there had been only one death from the virus. We existed almost in a bubble, watching the tragedy unfolding in our country and others from a distance. We were also fortunate regarding our work situation. Our family operates an essential food-related business, which continued as normal. We were thankful not to have to worry about being able to pay our bills. Our daughter and our son were able to work and study remotely from our home. These weeks had been a blessing of reconnection for all of us. Then why was I feeling so out of balance and sad? Yes, what we had been told would be a short lockdown had morphed into more than sixty days, but I had been happy during this time. There had been time for contemplation of what changes I wanted to enact in my life coming out of shelter-at-home orders, an opportunity I hoped others were seeing. I had written a lot of poetry; changed from giving Reiki sessions in person to Zoom sessions, not how I preferred, but still powerful; and I had taken a long walk in nature almost every day. We had played games, watched movies, cooked together, and had time for deeper conversations. It took some days of introspection for me to understand why I was feeling down. A few weeks ago, I started watching the news a couple of nights per week, something I usually don’t do. I longed to hear some good news about things getting easier in our country. Quickly I was reminded this was the wrong place to look for hope. What I saw was an incredible level of blaming and bickering between political parties. People were turning against others, many even taking authority into their own hands by informing on those they felt were not following the guidelines. Naysayers were predicting that the lockdown could last into the end of the summer and that the virus would hit again when colder weather returned in the fall. These stories were disheartening. Eventually I realized that this, not the lockdown, was what had pulled me down. I was rereading Emmet Fox’s Alter Your Life. I believe, like the author, that the creative power of the universe is thought, and when we learn to control our thinking, we can have happier lives. He writes that we give “power to some outer conditions by fearing them” and “there is no condition that enough Love will not heal.” In his opinion, the Great Depression was a “panic of belief,” and I believe that idea could also be applied to the fear displayed in our current situation. BY

From past experiences, I know I have the power to change my reactions to events happening around me, and it was time to make some adjustments. Often, I have gone to metaphysical books, and by applying the teachings, my emotions have turned around. My son was reading Esther and Jerry Hicks’ book, The Astonishing Power of Emotions, and he offered to share the book with me. Each chapter offers a problem where someone has found themselves out of alignment and then gives examples of how to slowly guide thoughts back into balance by consistently choosing better thoughts. After reading the book for a couple of days, and practicing the suggestions, I started to feel better. Besides reading these books, I took other actions toward feeling more positive. I signed up for a free Zoom presentation offered by Tyler Odysseus, a Quantum-Touch teacher I had taken classes with two years earlier. His presentation was called “Eight Ways to Pure Positivity.” Here are some of his ideas: • Relive a positive memory, because our emotions don’t know the difference between actually experiencing a happy time and remembering it. • Give a service from your heart. • Do body tapping. • Smile and laugh, which can be done by watching a comedy. • Mark into your calendar small periods of time to work on a dream you have. • Do things you enjoy (create art, walk in nature, listen to music). • Make a list of five things you are grateful for every night. • Remember to get a good night’s sleep. Right after the Quantum-Touch, I did a distant Reiki session for a fellow Reiki practitioner who was also feeling down. Between the two energy practices, I felt my emotional vibration rise noticeably. I reminded myself that there are many circumstances that we cannot control in life. Most often, our only control is determining how we will react. It is now a week later, and I am feeling much more positive. As a Reiki master and teacher, I know I am not able to help others if I am not balanced. The instructions to put on your own life vest first are valid. For me, having these tools to help turn an imbalance of thoughts and emotions around has been extremely beneficial. a CAROLYN CHILTON CASAS is a Reiki Master Teacher and a student of metaphysics. Finding Peace Beyond the Comfort of Normal Life BY

DARLENE GREEN

NOTHING ABOUT OUR current experience can be identified as normal. As a global community, we are brought together in a common cause. We are joined by our compassion for those who have lost loved ones and those who have given so much. We share gratitude for those who continue to stand strong in the face of despair and personal risk. Amid the upheaval of normal, peace may be found and may be the key to moving forward powerfully into the new paradigm of our world. The impact of the Covid-19 pandemic will be with us for some time. While putting life on pause for quarantine feels like a temporary situation, we cannot un-live this time and revert to the way life was. Placing our conscious awareness into choosing how we are being and creating in our life, so we may move forward powerfully, is invaluable as we navigate these uncharted waters. Beneath the necessities of washing our hands, social distancing and wearing masks is the sense of the incoming tide of a new world paradigm. If we attach peace to external circumstances, we live in reaction to life and the experience of peace will be fleeting. As we bring conscious awareness to our choices, thoughts and ways of being, we can move powerfully in life guided by our own deepest soul-full expression. With our focus turned inward. we are less reactionary to external events we cannot control.

FIVE BRIDGES TO PEACE Consider adding these practices to your life: • Bring Intention to Your Day — Consider peace as a perspective that then generates peace. We may choose to BE peace, which is available beyond circumstance. When we intend to generate peace as an expression of our essential self, life is framed within the experience of peace. The act of choosing declares our intention, which allows us to reach into the greatest part of ourselves. Our conscious intentions form the lens through which we view life. Left unconscious, we float through scenarios constructed by reaction and our greatest concerns. Choice is a potent action that immediately brings clarity and empowerment. Choose an intention for your day and watch what happens. 1 8  WWW.EDGEMAGAZINE.NET

Distinct from a to-do list, an intention declares how you will BE in your day. It is your being that informs what you do. Feel the difference between “Today I will get the report completed” and “Today I choose to be completion.” Start every day by declaring your intention. Today I choose to be peace. Today I choose to be clarity. Today I choose to be connection. Today I choose to be innovation, creativity, resolution, resilience, patience, grace, joy or love. When what you choose resonates with your inner self, notice the presence of peace filtering through your day, just through your act of conscious intention. • Be Present — Focus your awareness in the present moment. We have many layers of clutter that occupy our thoughts. When you choose to be present, events of the past and the weight of expectations for the future are released. As you bring your awareness to the present moment you become available to access your own wisdom and clarity. Say to yourself or out loud, “I bring all parts of me present here and now! I bring all parts of me present here and now! I bring all parts of me present here and now!” Take a deep breath. • Anchor into Your Center — Notice when your thinking is reactionary and when you are feeling off balance. As you leave the stillness of your own center, life experience becomes more stressful and chaotic. With awareness beyond your own center, the prevailing feeling is one of not being able to attain an empowered stance. When you feel out of control consider your awareness is outside of your center point. In the same way the outer rings of a hurricane are the most destructive and chaotic, so it is with you when your awareness is not held within your center. In the moments that you notice yourself in the outer rings of your awareness, visualize gently turning around and walking to the stillness of your own center — and then take a deep breath. • Lead with Your Heart — It may feel counter intuitive to bring down the walls at a time that demands so much. Consider the walls of separation are a reflection of your own inner separation. As you bring focus to showing up in life from the standpoint of wholeness, your emotional self is honored, encouraged, and given space. Consider you may emerge from this transformational time owning and honoring all parts of yourself.

Bring thoughtful compassion to every encounter with others and to yourself, as well. Allow these challenging times to reveal strengths that are only found through expressing wholeness. Loving fully is a contribution to you, everyone around you, and the world. • Be the Visionary for Your Life — Become inner directed. When you are present and have released expectations around how life should be, you become available to hear your own voice. Being connected with your inner wisdom enables you to live beyond distractions. By being at the helm of your life, informed by your essential self, there is a natural sense of peace. The experience is one of “settling into yourself,” or you naturally being more of you.

EMERGE WITH PURPOSE Trust that you will emerge into the future with purpose. Lean into the realm of what you don’t know and allow your own brilliance to be revealed. Bringing conscious awareness to your life allows you to distinguish who you are not and who you are authentically. Make new choices that resonate with your soul, revealing your best self. Your soul-full knowing will light your path. We are living an evolutionary event that calls us to our best. Our human nature struggles to know what is to come and recalibrate into the comfort of normal. By embracing the moment and looking inward for direction we access the innate wisdom of our divine nature. When we choose our own wholeness we are able to weather any storm. Trusting in our own ability to move forward powerfully under any circumstance allows peace to become the canvas upon which we create life. a DARLENE GREEN, a highly sensitive, a natural empath, healer, teacher and scribe, has followed her heart’s direction in discovery of the sacred in life. GOOD VIBRATIONS: CHOOSING YOUR FREQUENCY R E A D A L L S E V E N A R T I C L E S O N O U R M O N T H LY T O P I C O N J U LY 1 AT E D G E M A G A Z I N E . N E T

The Space Between Seconds: Where All Answers Can Be Found JOHANNA KERN TICK-TOCK. A lot can happen between seconds. All of infinity opens up for us when we let ourselves experience timelessness. Have you noticed how quickly things happen in the world compared to the past? How fast everything around us changes: the speeding development of science, human thought, the political, economic and social changes? When you pay attention to your own thoughts, you may also notice how fast what you wish for, or are afraid of — may take place in your life. You might find it interesting to know that it is all due to the expansion of the Universe: The expanding universe affects our lives, thoughts and our day-to-day experience. All matter, being a part of the cosmic energy, continues pulsating. It expands, decreases, then expands again, and so on. What does this have to do with our experience? A lot more than we would expect. Thus far, the expansion of the Universe, and the fact that we see the galaxies moving away from us, has been puzzling astronomers who have been making increasingly accurate measurements of two important cosmological patterns: the rate at which the Universe expands, and the average density of matter in the Universe. During the cycle of the expanding Universe, there is increasingly more space in relation to matter. That means that everything that is non-material “travels” faster, easier — as if gliding quickly through water or air. Every single vibration sent out moves forward quicker and manifests faster. BY

When we send out a thought, it behaves like other energy waves, vibrating with a particular frequency — either higher or lower. And that depends on what kind of intention lies behind our thought. It has been observed by researchers that the higher the frequency of vibrations, the higher the impact they have on everything else. In other words: The higher the vibration of our thoughts, the faster and more profoundly we create our reality — the experiences of our life. That phenomenon has not only been observed in quantum field theory, but also, interestingly, by many philosophers, mystics and belief systems, for thousands of years. It has been observed that expanded consciousness, altruism, unconditional Love — the so-called “higher virtues,” being of higher frequency and falling into the category of gamma brainwaves — have the greatest power, changing our reality in a blink of an eye. Think, for instance, of Mahatma Gandhi, and how he affected many lives with his high consciousness. What we think and do is the blueprint for what we receive and who we become. Who we become is the outcome of our vision of ourselves. Everything that exists has its own unique vibration. Our cells respond to frequencies. Our brains produce frequencies. Food, nature, human bodies and material objects — all actions and thoughts — have particular frequencies. How do we align ourselves with what’s most important and beneficial to us? We can find the rhythm of our own vibration in the timeless space between seconds. Close your eyes and forget the “Tick-Tock.” When we take the linear time concept out of our minds, we can experience eternity, omnipresence and pure love — possible only when there is no conditioning by the past and future. We can be one with All, in a single timeless moment. That eternal moment is our true reality, outside of the illusion of matter, spirit and time. In that eternal moment, we are true to our own vibration and all our choices are in alignment with our pure, unique frequency. What is in alignment with our own frequency preserves, strengthens and raises the frequencies of our vibration. The best choices we can make in our life are not based on our ego, subconscious programming, fears, actual trends or somebody’s opinion. They come from our core. Choosing what’s best for us is about choosing what helps us grow, as the consciousness that we are. Each of us evolves at our own pace. We can measure that pace according to the linear time or we can tune to the timelessness between seconds and let ourselves fully embrace our experience — beyond our limiting concept of time. In such a state, we no longer try to find our way. We know our way to everything we seek. a JOHANNA KERN is a transformational teacher and multiple award-winning author of Master and the Green-Eyed Hope, 365 (+1) Affirmations to Create A Great Life and Secrets of Love for Everyone. Natural Vibrations BY MARIA

LISA POLEGATTO IT’S EASY FOR GLOBAL events to sway our emotions from recurring highs and lows. We need to find ways to stay in higher vibrations to balance our emotions, which harmonize our mind, body and soul. My favorite way to stay in balance is to spend time in nature. For me, each step into nature is a journey that gently nudges us into its Divinity. It calms the mind and heals the soul while giving balance as it raises vibrations to a higher level to connect to the natural world. As my journey takes me deeper into its reach, each tree, flower and petal reach out to me like the hand of God, inviting me to come closer and see the uniqueness he creates in each of His masterpieces, including each of us. As I approach the wild roses, I see the buds tightly wrapped, insulating themselves from the harshness of the world. As the weather warms, the buds are encouraged to let go of their grip and allow the world to enjoy their inner beauty. One by one, each petal tenderly unfolds to reveal the next layers, protecting it while also nurturing it. As the delicate inner beauty is exposed, its aroma comes forward to fill my senses with the Divine love He created it with. When the weather turns cold, the petals protect it from the harsh surroundings to keep it safe to bloom another day. Just like the wild roses, we are free to enjoy the miraculous beauty nature affords us as we sway in the wind, waiting for encouragement to let go of fears and express our individual beauty. My emotions are balanced in nature as my vibration rises higher. I too want to protect nature from the harshness of the world like it is a child with which God has greatly blessed me. For He offers His hand to all to bask in the glory He has created that works together to heal the world and us in it. God bless and blessed be, while our mind, body and soul are balanced with a more natural vibration as nature restores our emotions to new heights. a MARIA LISA POLEGATTO grew up and lives in Nova Scotia, Canada, where she works full time. To rest and relax she loves to retreat into nature and spend time with animals enjoying the magic that surrounds us. Contact Maria Lisa at www.marialisapolegatto.com. COPYRIGHT © 2020. Perfect Feng Shui isn’t Always the Best CAROLE HYDER THE MODERN VERSION of Feng Shui takes its roots from a disciplined and traditional approach based on the overlay of time and space. Charts from this traditional form designate good and bad areas or directions, healthy and unhealthy positions, life and death options, without taking into consideration the gray areas. In hindsight, had I initially been introduced to this form of Feng Shui, I would not have followed the path. Instead, I met His Holiness Professor Thomas Lin Yun who understood the importance of involving the occupant’s preferences and who is responsible for evolving traditional Feng Shui “rules” to coincide with those preferences. As a result, Feng Shui consultants may reference those charts, but always there’s a conversation about the client’s inclinations. When suggesting a particular action or adjustment to take in their space, we now ask a variety of questions. How does that feel to you? Would you like that? Does that make sense to you? My experience has been that without a frequency match (felt-sense, emotions, preferences), Feng Shui doesn’t synchronize with the client, so a Feng Shui adjustment simply wouldn’t work. Almost 26 years ago, my husband and I purchased a home from a friend. We had both been in the home many times prior to that and knew it required modernizing — the kitchen, the plumbing, a new roof. BY

Plus, from a traditional Feng Shui perspective, it was facing the wrong direction for both of us; there was a substantial missing piece in the Wealth area (which had played out in our friend’s life while she lived there); and there was a missing piece in Helpful People. Any traditional Feng Shui consultant would have advised us to keep looking. However, we loved the home, not only because of the location but because our friend had imbued the home with a beautiful energy we could both feel. We pushed through negotiations with her ex-husband, unknown mortgages and countless hiccups along the way. Again, the realtor kept asking us if we wanted to look at another piece of property. We kept coming back to the same answer: we loved the house. We’ve lived in the house since 1994 and have not regretted it once. There have been issues, of course, as with any house — and there was our infamous “10-Year Plan” during which we tackled major projects one-by-one. In the end, it has given us nothing but joy and safety. This was a decision that defied the principles of a traditional school of Feng Shui but supported those of modern perspective. The charts said one thing; our hearts said another. What we discovered with our home was that when the vibrations of a space entrain with its occupants, it then elevates the frequency of the person(s) so they can

achieve their dreams. A more recent Feng Shui decision I made in my space involved my office. I have taken over the smallest bedroom because it has a large walk-in closet. The rest of the office, however, is small so I am always aware of keeping my desk and credenza clear. On one wall I have two floor-to-ceiling bookcases that have glass inserts in the doors. Over the years, I tried covering the doors on the outside to diminish the “chaos” from the bookshelves and to eliminate the glare off the surface of the glass. However, nothing worked well — the covering didn’t adhere well; my sweet cat found a way to claw off the lower part; I didn’t like the color. On and on. I even arranged my books according to the 5 Chinese Element colors — all red books together, all yellow together, set up in the constructive cycle, etc., in an attempt to give the view into the bookcases some sense of design aesthetic. Books in that particular area of my office are “good” Feng Shui. According to Feng Shui, I should have liked this arrangement. Yet, it still felt chaotic to me. Finding a way to calm the chaos fell in the same category as buying this house — one roadblock after another. I worked to find a covering that I liked, attempted shelf paper, got wallpaper that turned out to not be peel and stick, found an adherent, removed that adherent, found another adherent and got it in place perfectly, until finally it felt the way I wanted. The exuberance and satisfaction of a “job well done” still washes over me when I walk in and see those bookcase doors. They exude a quiet beauty, absorbing

distractions and lessening the chaos. The perfect Feng Shui for me. a CAROLE HYDER is an internationally recognized consultant, speaker, teacher, author and trainer in the field of Feng Shui. Her Integrated Spaces® Strategy combines ancient practices with modern research to create supe-

WHEN MY UNDIES ARE in a bundle or I’m otherwise all in a dither about a situation or another person, or when I’m simply disappointed with myself, I often pay close attention to the wild animals crossing my path. work. I desperately needed some good vibes. At first, the idea that a beastie could help me find my way in life made me laugh out loud. How could an animal do that? At the time, I believed that humans were somehow operating at a “higher level” than the wild creatures. Now I know better. The first beastie to change my mind was a walrus. To be clear, he was stuffed and hanging on a wall in a shop downtown. He was definitely dead — which was how I was feeling inside. But, I began to be curious. What could a walrus have to teach me about my life? It turns out that walruses seem to enjoy surrendering their giant bodies to the beach. They are unabashed in their largeness and their lounging. everything? Everything? They aren’t fretting about the comment they made on the Zoom interview yesterday that made them look ridiculous. They aren’t trying to be polar bears. And they certainly aren’t panicked inside that the clams will someday run out. That lifeless walrus led me to begin a process of deeper self-acceptance. Maybe if I could manage to be myself and relax a bit, things might improve at work? Things did improve and, because of that, I began to really start paying attention to all of the beasties that I noticed. The insights kept pouring in and I kept following their guidance. Ten years later, I’m still watching for the lessons that the wild things have to share with me. I’ll never stop. This spring, our yard’s resident robin lost two eggs to a predator. Do you know what that amazing bird did? Without skipping a beat, the robin rebuilt a brand new nest within days and began her creative process all over again. She didn’t flap all over town complaining to every other bird, who would listen that this dastardly deed has been done to her. She didn’t waste a minute. Instead, she got busy tending life itself. There’s a glorious auburn groundhog who wanders in the splendor of our sunny (and organic) lawn, devouring tender dandelion greens. Yesterday, this gentle vegetarian took some time to settle down onto her belly and sunbathe. I’ve also seen her pause to stand on her hind legs to sniff the air, and it looks to me like whatever she is sniffing must smell pretty damn fantastic. This wonderful

groundhog isn’t in a hurry to get somewhere or to accomplish anything grand or lofty. She’s merely nourishing herself and taking things one moment at a time. This groundhog knows how to be content. The next time you’re feeling frazzled or off your rocker, I invite you to connect with a beastie. Going outside to see which beastie you notice first is ideal. But, you can also simply close your eyes and think of one you admire. Connect with your breath and then feel into their presence (they’ve got it in spades!) and ask yourself, “If I was a [bobcat, sea turtle, or fill in the blank] how would I respond to this scenario or mood? What would I do if I just trusted myself? If I wasn’t worried about the future or the past or what anybody thinks of me? Could I be content right now? Without anything changing? With the help of the many wild creatures, I eventually left my medical practice and discovered a whole new vocation. It’s one that gives me great joy. And when I struggle from time to time to find my feelgood. I know I can find it again as soon as I’m willing to open up to the wisdom of my wild companions here on Earth. a SARAH BAMFORD SEIDELMANN, M.D., was a fourth-generation physician living a nature-starved, hectic lifestyle until a walrus entered her life and changed everything. Food, Frequencies & Feng Shui Spirit Leaves BY JANET MICHELE RED FEATHER WHEN THE SECRET and The Law of Attraction first entered the consciousness movement, the prospect of wish fulfillment spread like wildfire. People purchased a plethora of books, tapes and workshops, eager to try out the technique. In their haste, many missed the spiritual component. The key is intent: with loving and positive intent, beneficial things appear—synchronously. If greed is the motive, or power, it is one of those “be careful what you wish for” situations: you attract what you wish for, but not in the form you expect. We hear stories of people desperate to attract a mate. If they would work full-time on spiritual growth, they could naturally magnetize partners attuned to that higher wavelength. Instead, most opt for dating websites. Concerned about image, they focus their energies upon creating an onscreen persona designed to “lure” the big fish. Small wonder the resulting scenario is a sad matter of “desperation meets desperation,” launching an abundance of new but dysfunctional relationships. Here’s a distillation of the teachings: everything is energy; everything has a frequency. When we match that frequency with our own thoughts and emotions energetically, we create a successful pole that magnetizes what we need. Everything

begins as an idea in the mind. What we focus upon increases, until what began as a thought in the mind appears spontaneously in our environment. It’s magic, in one sense; in another, it’s quite natural. FOOD — As in the online dating example, with a little time and care and the right intention, we will foster a healthy relationship with food. We want to eat healthier, to draw to us foods that support nourish and support radiant health. When we listen to the inner voice, the guides, the Higher Self, we connect with energies just beyond the veil and thereby choose vibrationally appropriate foods. It’s this simple: when we access Higher energies and look around us, everything in the field seems lit for easy selection. We enter the market and see only organic blackberries, not chemically cultivated ones. Natural foods call out to us; processed ones stop us in our tracks. When connected, it all works for our best and highest good. Alas, without accessing and forming that higher vibrational intent, we likely find ourselves in line for fast food, ordering fries and a shake. THOUGHTS — Choosing our thoughts is analogous to choosing healthy foods. In the initial stream, the more dramatic or disturbing thoughts tend to surface first. To change this tendency, we need to stop, breathe, reflect. Do we sense an immanent negative thought arising? Has something triggered an ancient grudge? Are we swept up in a tide of political strife, biased thinking or a judgmental urge to correct others? Stop. Breathe. Reflect. Transform negatives into positives. Bless and release negative memories, images and ideas to their Highest good. Eventually, this reaction becomes innate. SOUND — In the new energies, sound offers great frequency attunement. Tone-generating tools like Tibetan bell chimes or brass bells bring mindfulness; wind chimes dissipate negatives. Chants blanket the soul. My roommate and I listen to chants that resonate with our diverse spiritual culture. Cedric prefers medita-

a

tive tones, Sacred Songs by Krishna Das, Native Flute music and Gregorian chants. I like New Age music, Buddhist chants and Nuns singing in Latin. Sound, like mathematics, is a universal language. It translates across the dimensions, enhancing our multi-dimensional awareness. FENG SHUI — The arrangement of our physical setting immediately and cumulatively impacts upon our human energy field; this, in turn, profoundly affects the way we feel. It is important to choose consciously what stays or goes in our environment. Accumulating clutter by default stealthfully transforms an erstwhile sanctuary into a weighty bog. The solution is to take time to clear the clutter, little by little, twenty minutes at a time. With that small but significant investment, everything will begin to shift energetically and allow for new and wonderful energies to arrive. The moral of the story? Eat consciously, think positively, listen selectively and Feng Shui everything! Even entertaining the thought of movement in another direction is the first small step on the thousand-mile path to liberation. a JANET MICHELE RED FEATHER, J.D., M.A., is a ceremonial singer who has learned over 60 traditional songs in Mandan and Lakota and sings in nine different languages.
