DEALER EVENT

2015 Global Distributor Open Event in Tyrone EDGE Innovate’s state of the art headquarters in Co. Tyrone was the venue for their recent Global Distributor Open Day which attracted more than 80 guests from over 20 countries.

The day-long programme

included a factory tour along the production facilities and a walk around tour of the machines given by sales and technical personnel. Managing Director Darragh Cullen commented: “The event was really about firming up and expanding upon our relationships with our customers. It was about cementing trust - and also about reminding our distributors about our range of equipment and giving them all the chance to work with other EDGE distributors and share stories and opportunities.” The open day also hosted the unveiling of a new addition to the EDGE product portfolio,

the TRM 516 trommel. It boasts design features such as a sixteen foot long drum, four wheel direct drive system, variable speed control drum and feeder conveyor with load sensing controls. Optional oversize and radial conveyors are available for higher stockpiling requirements. The TRM516 has been innovatively designed for fuel efficiency and low operating costs thanks to the unique fuel and energy saving control system. Another notable advantage is the ease at which the unit can be transported from site to site, thanks to its fully road towable design.

With numerous screens and drum types available (including a telescopic oversize conveyor for larger stockpiles) the TRM516 provides high flexibility and is the perfect option for end users who are constrained for space. The official launch of this machine follows an aggressive portfolio of product launches which has seen a wide range of products come to market over the past number of years.

On Display

Other machines on site at the event included the Radial Truck Unloader RTU220. Introduced in 2014 the RTU220 provides operators with a highly efficient loading tool, designed to allow operators to continuously load directly from trucks into train wagons or barges. The full HMI control panel and remote control functions provide operators easy control of the RTU functions whilst loading. An independent track mounted unit, the RTU220 provides flexibility and reliability. Powered by a CAT 4.4 96KW (129HP) diesel engine, the RTU220 offers huge torque whilst only consuming 12-15 litres per hour (3-4USG).

Further cost savings are provided by a dual power option. Also on display was the new upgraded Roll Sizer RS1500 which now boasts an increased hopper capacity from 7m³ to 11.25m³ and a lower feed in height of 3.3m allowing the RS1500 to be fed by any wheel loader without the need for a constructed ramp. The RS1500 Pre-Screen has been redeveloped to facilitate various mesh screens for fine screening applications. The feed conveyor now boasts a twin drive system to facilitate the transfer of larger material volumes.

FSM Fines Plant

On show, too, was the new EDGE FSM Fines Plant which has a 10 stage separation process and is the perfect solution to reducing landfill costs. The new plant incorporates a mobile feeder stockpiler with bespoke hopper, our new flip flop screen, overband and head drum magnets, blowers and our new material classifier. The FSM fines plant is another example of EDGE Innovate providing solutions to meet the ever changing demands placed on recycling facilities. 3

DEALER EVENT

Other equipment included the EDGE Slayer/Shredder XL Basket System. With the new Slayer XL screening system, material is shredded to the required particle size in just one pass, cutting down on production times and operating costs. The baskets come in various apertures from 50mm to 250mm depending on the customer requirements and can be quickly removed or exchanged for different aperture screens. The EDGE Slayer can be used as either a primary or secondary shredder due to its highly robust design and superior resistance to difficult to shred material. The RTS Radial Track Stockpiler was also featured. It is a unique concept to the marketplace. Essentially it is a Radial Wheeled Stockpiler and Tracked Stockpiler all-in-one! The remote control track system is used to move the machine

4

around site including rough terrain. It is also of benefit when re-locating the machine to a different site as it can easily be tracked onto a low loader or Low-Boy. When the machine has been positioned for work using the Tracks, the EDGE Radial Tracked Stacker can produce a 360° stockpile.

Site Visit

The EDGE Open Day also consisted of a site visit to the nearby skip hire company McKinstry Skip Hire. Guests were keen to see the EDGE machines working in real recycling applications for which they were designed. The machinery lineup at McKinst r y’s included the Material Classifier MC1200, two EDGE shredders, The Slayer X and Slayer XL with the new basket system, the Trommel TRT622, and the Tracked Stockpiler TS65.

Despite bitterly cold weather conditions the high spirits continued with dinner at the Armagh City Hotel followed by corporate presentations from the Marketing Department, After Sales Department and the EDGE Managing Director. Catherine McKernan of the EDGE marketing department commented: “Overall, 2014 has proven to be very successful with the EDGE brand becoming increasingly recognisable across the industry; 302 units have been sold into 31 different countries, with material being conveyed over 8303 meters. We are fully committed to building upon this in 2015 alongside our distributors which we will continue to support throughout” Added Patrick Campbell of the EDGE After Sales Department: “Here at EDGE we want to be as competitive as we can and in doing this we must have a structured plan with each dealer to maximise their levels of support to the end user. We currently hold in the excess of

£1.5 million worth of stock here at EDGE which proves a major benefit and peace of mind to you the Dealer.” The evening’s talks concluded with EDGE Managing Director Darragh Cullen, who told the gathering: “We are delighted with the performance of the EDGE brand to date. The early days were quite difficult if I am to be honest. Business gurus have various opinions on when the best time is to start a business. Many would argue that the middle of the biggest ever worldwide economic downturn would not be the smartest move. “As ever, we had our own ideas. Five years ago we began the process of researching the market, talking to potential customers and devising a strategy. From a standing start we have developed into a business with a £15m turnover. We have an expanding product portfolio and above all a team of highly committed and experienced personnel.”

QUARRYING

EDGE and MAX Innovate Provide Long-term Solution to Improve Site Efficiency

Russel Meakin, Managing Director of Wentvalley Aggregates with Rob Newell of Max Innovate

Wentvalley Aggregates are a highly productive and

efficient quarry based just south of Pontefract. This large limestone quarry operates a very effective full crushing train to supply the aggregate demands of the area, which includes a variety of different end product sizes. Over the past few years the company has invested heavily in new crushing technology including large jaw and cone equipment, a modern fleet of large screening plant which is capable of handling in excess of 900 tonnes an hour, and a fleet of 20 to 60 tonne excavators and 20 to 30 tonne wheeled loaders.

6

The brief for EDGE Innovate and their UK dealer MAX Innovate was to supply a long-term solution which would improve the efficiency of the site, allowing for more capacity and more streamlined loading of the delivery trucks, allowing for more product to leave the site. Traditionally, wheeled loaders have been used to move the material once it comes off the various screens in the quarry. This meant that each wheeled loader was tied to each screen conveyor on a daily basis to move the material as fast as possible, because of the amount produced. The solution proposed by EDGE and MAX was to drastically change the way in which they worked, and to introduce a system of stacking conveyors to effectively handle the movement of all material produced by the screens. This radical change has been hugely successful and welcomed by Russell Meakin, Managing Director of Wentvalley Aggregates. “Before the tracked conveyors we had four or five loading shovels tied to the screens, because of the amount of material we produce.

QUARRYING Now, we have a system which allows us to move a lot of product quickly and effectively and create much larger stockpiles. This means that we can use the wheeled loaders now to load the trucks and get the material off-site to our customers much quicker, a much better use of these machines. We have seen a big reduction in operating costs; saving money on manpower, fuel and machine costs, and the stacking conveyors have allowed us to increase capacity across the site. Before, the wheeled loaders were used to move the material from the screen, which could only handle a small stockpile, to another larger stockpile, and then onto loading the trucks, so we were moving the product at least twice. Now we can just leave everything running, moving the product just once with the shovels straight to the delivery trucks. The drivers love the system now and it makes the job easier for them and safer. The other good thing is that it keeps all the material away from the machines and this cuts down on any damage and subsequent maintenance. It’s also very quick and easy to change the angle of the stockpile if needed to make a larger pile, and they are really good on fuel, ultimately making the whole operation much more efficient.

The big advantage however is that they make the crushers and screens work longer. We are not starving the crushers and screens any more as the operators are now focused on feeding the plant instead of creating stockpiles. We have a superb relationship with EDGE and MAX, the machines are great, repairs and maintenance have been great and we are very happy.

They are one of the best things I have ever bought

Go Waste is a Saltley based recycling business who specialize in accepting C&D and C&I waste from around the greater Birmingham area. Started in 1985 by Mick Jones, the business has grown substantially over the past few years and needed a solution for the growing amount of waste that they are taking in, and the subsequent amount of trommel fines that they are producing. They also needed a plant that could meet the standards raised by the HMRC and the trommel fines situation. With the current consultation document on Loss On Ignition test (LOI) to determine the correct tax liability on segregated fines, subject to qualifying material inputs, this plant can be adjusted and changed, to cope with any outcome in this eagerly awaited industry issue. Talking with Mick at length, he was very happy with the project and installation “The machines from EDGE and the service from Max Innovate have been a great

success for us, we are now processing on a regular basis between 15-20 tonnes per hour of waste through the new machine. The core process of the plant is to separate the heavy and light fractions, and in achieving this we generate a clean soil coming off it now. With the extra magnets installed we are also extracting all the metal, right down to screws and tacks. Through this process we have

found that around 50% of the fines that we were taking to land fill is now turned into clean heavies which is of

course a hard-core product that we can dispose of much easier and more cost effectively. So we are now making a very substantial saving on our running costs compared to before. The EDGE Fines Recovery Plant incorporates a ten stage separation

process; it is the perfect solution to reducing landfill costs and generating more revenue. The plant incorporates a Feeder Stockpiler with bespoke hopper, a Flip Flop Screen, over-band and head drum magnets, blowers and a material classifier. The plant combines mechanical screening with “Light V Heavy” material recovery technology. We have been very happy with the service from both Max Innovate and EDGE, and with the machine I think it’s better than anything out there currently. EDGE took a huge interest in the project and made lots of site visits to make sure everything was done right. After looking at other machines, I think that EDGE is way ahead in build quality and the end product that comes out is much better. The service has been second to none. 9

GUIDANCE

Diesel VS Electric

Which power-source should you choose? The abundant list of options for equipment on the market testifies that manufactures are attempting to cater for customer demands. The manner in which equipment is driven is no different, with customers calling for various power-source configurations. So, which power-source should you choose?

operate the system and hydraulic motors. This simple circuit eliminates the need for expensive This circuit allows for easier serviceability in that the diesel mechanic that services your loader on site may be able to service your track conveyor or trommel. Electric systems generally are much more complicated and may require a trained service engineer.

DIESEL / HYDRAULIC

There are pros and cons to both diesel/hydraulic and electric configurations. The greatest benefit of the diesel/hydraulic power-source is that it is a self-contained with only fuel required. This allows the unit to be located in remote locations where an electric power-source is unavailable. Another noted benefit is that there are no cumbersome electric cables to handle. Having each plant equipped with diesel/hydraulic power-units provides added flexibility. Operators can simply and quickly split their system. If a particular plant is not required, engines can be simply turned off. An example of this would be if additional further crushing or screening is not required to produce a product, then units not utilised in this process can be shut off, reducing operators costs. This can help offset fuel and maintenance costs of the operation. Self-contained power-units generally are made up with a diesel engine coupled with hydraulic pumps, control valves to control panels, starters, wiring cables and connectors. 10

Diesel / Hydraulic

Dual Power - Set-up Functions - Diesel/Hydraulic - Conveyor Belt - Electric driven

GUIDANCE

DIRECT ELECTRIC

The advantages of electric-powered equipment over diesel models extend well beyond the obvious savings on diesel fuel. Electric-powered equipment can significantly reduce operating and maintenance costs, while providing unbeatable dependability and uptime. Electric systems are much more efficient than their hydraulic equivalents and more reliable regardless of the climate they are operating in. Diesel/hydraulic power-units tend to be more temperamental in extreme climates such as high altitudes. Edge Innovate recently commissioned two 65ft track conveyors high in the Austrian Alps. Due to the location in which they were to be employed, the units were fitted with electric motors and a diesel/hydraulic powerunit. The diesel powerunit was utilised to move the conveyor into position and for conveyor angle adjustment. Once in position the operator ran the conveyor belt via its electric motors. Another factor to be considered is emission regulations. Trying to keep up with new engine tier regulations can be difficult, there is no such issue with electric power-units. With plants that require multiple power-units, electric systems are much easier to gain permits for than their diesel/ hydraulic counterparts in many parts of the world. Due to their emission free operation, electric powered units can be operated indoors or moved between indoor and outdoor applications. With diesel prices constantly fluctuating, electric powered units allow for a much more accurate forecasting and also removes the need to store or handle diesel fuel on site. Besides savings on diesel fuel, electric powered equipment eliminates the costs and downtime associated with maintaining a diesel engine and radiator. Although an electric system may require trained service engineers to carry out maintenance, the regularity of service is much less than that of a diesel engine and will incur less downtime due to a blocked filter, oil and coolant exchange, air filter replacement, busted hose or a dusty environment.

DIESEL / ELECTRIC GENSET

Recently however; more manufacturers are returning to electric options but with the convenience of a self-contained powerunit. The Edge Onboard Genset Option is an example of this thinking. The Diesel Genset brings to the user a unique trio of highly efficient running solutions. The diesel/electric generator allows the conveyor belt on the machine to be driven by a Direct Electric Drive. This feature can be up to 40% more efficient than a traditional Diesel / Hydraulic system or indeed other types of Dual Power systems consisting of an Electric / Hydraulic combination. The Edge Genset option also allows it to be connected to the Mains Electric. This easily allows the operator to turn off the Genset and switch over to Mains Electric where available. This is the ultimate in running cost efficiency. Additionally this option allows an Edge unit to be easily set to be powered by another Diesel/ Electric Machine close by. This has obvious running and maintenance cost advantages. Although there is a cost differential for this option, it provides end users with all of the benefits of a self-contained diesel/hydraulic powerunit and the advantages of an electric system.

So the question still to be answered; which power-source

configuration is the best choice? The simplicity of the diesel/hydraulic system cannot be overlooked alongside its superior flexibility to work in remote locations. There are a number of applications that a diesel/hydraulic powerunit would be recommended over an electric counterpart such as; units for rental from a month to month basis, units that need to be moved regularly and that must be broken down in numerous sub-assemblies in order to transport and if the unit is to be located miles from the nearest electric power-source. Luckily EDGE Innovate is one such company that can cater to all facets of the industry. Power-source options offered on the Edge Innovate product range include; Diesel/Hydraulic, Direct Electric, Dual Power and Electric Genset. Although there are various options available, it is vitally important to select the correct power configuration to suit your needs and environmental surroundings in which the product is to be employed.

PRODUCT FOCUS

TRM 516 Series

The Best of Both Worlds Edge Innovate’s reputation has been gained not only as a high quality equipment manufacturer but also as an organisation quick to respond to changing customer needs and demands. Individual machine concepts and improvements are less likely to be the brain-child of a particular engineer and more likely to be an idea that has originated from the yard of a skip hire company or a recycling facility. With decades of experience in equipment engineering and design, the Edge Design Academy adopts a listening approach to customer interaction. The entire EDGE product range can trace its roots back directly to equipment end users. The new TRM516 Range is no different. Their Global Dealer Open Day on the 16th January saw the unveiling of a robust mobile trommel designed for the Recycling, Composting and C&D industries in the form of the TRM516. Managing Director Darragh Cullen speaking at the unveiling of the TRM516;

12

“Numerous dealers and customers over the past number of years have expressed interest in a Trommel of this size and spec. There is a huge market for high performance trommel’s, the success of our 622 tracked and wheeled trommel is evidence of that” With numerous screens and drum types available the TRM516 series provides high flexibility and is the perfect option for end users who are constrained for space. Thanks to design features such as the sixteen foot long drum the TR516 is able to produce top-quality fine materials such as compost, gravel, sand and topsoil with ease.

PRODUCT FOCUS What’s more, because these materials can spend a greater amount of time in the longer 16ft drum, you will be able to achieve enhanced screening results. The TR516 series will cater for a wide range of applications, whether it is industries such as the aggregates, skip waste management, and those wishing to process industrial and demolition waste. The new addition to the EDGE Trommel Range has the capability if handling a multitude of materials that previously could only be achieved with larger trommels. Design features include an overload sensing system. The drum and the feeder work together to prevent overloading using Pressure Transducer Technology. Hydraulic pressure being used to drive the drum is constantly monitored. If it is too high then the feeder will slow down automatically, if the pressure is still too high then the feeder will slow down again to an eventual stop. Once the pressure in the drum begins to drop then the feeder will speed up again automatically. One consideration for EDGE when designing this machine was the question of the end fines conveyor type machine versus the Side Fines Conveyor design. By engineering a very compact end conveyor machine, EDGE have kept the advantage of a side conveyor product with all the advantages of the end conveyor offering, ultimately giving the customer the best of both worlds. For those users that require a 90 degree output conveyor, the radial conveyor can of course be set to 90 degrees either left or right to offer this feature. Innovatively designed for fuel efficiency and low operating costs, the TRM516 can be easily transported from site to site.

The TRM516 boasts a sixteen foot long drum, four wheel direct drive system, hydraulic variable speed control drum and feeder conveyor with load sensing controls. Optional oversize and radial fines conveyors are available for higher stockpiling requirements. As always with EDGE Innovate given EDGE’s superior global Aftersales support; the relationship doesn’t end with the sale, it begin

PRODUCT FOCUS

reclamation SOLUTION from edge EDGE LAUNCH NEW LTPS Landfill mining may seem an unusual twist to those from the waste prevention, recycling and waste treatment technologies, however, available technology, and a wide-spread changing of attitudes and the realisation that resources are becoming scarcer is making landfill mining a far more creditable avenue to pursue in sustainable waste management circles. For these reasons, Landfill Mining and Reclamation (LFMR) is now beginning to be considered more seriously in both the United States and Europe, with added media exposure and the topic becoming increasingly discussed among those working in the waste management sector. It is with this in mind that EDGE Innovate has launched the new LTPS. The EDGE LTPS combines all the benefits of the highly regarded Low-Level track Stockpiler such as the unique low-level hopper design with a 2-bay picking station. Available with either a belt feeder or heavy duty steel apron feeder, the LTPS boasts a rapid set-up time and superb manoeuvrability along with other notable design features such as the two bay picking bay, ladder access, variable belt speeds and overband magnet.

16

It is the perfect solution for brownfield clear-up projects and for extracting valuable commodities from existing or disused landfill sites. The LTPS is a concept that was born from the requirement a unit that could navigate across rough terrain and that could be easily fed by either a wheel loader or excavator. Customers simply wanted a machine to bring to the waste and not the waste to the machine.

The LTPS combines all the functionality of a low-level track stockpiler and the added features of a mobile picking station. This provides owners with greater flexibility by having the added option of using the LTPS as a standard low level stockpiler with a discharge height of up to 9.2m (30’3”) that has the ability to create a stockpile volume of up to 1780m³ (2328yds³).

The EDGE LTPS along with other products found within the EDGE Recycling Range such as the FSM Fines Recovery plant, the Material Classifier and TR516 & TR622 trommel range offer the perfect solution for the extraction of these precious commodities.

For decades, the UK has for the most part simply buried its waste, but landfills are nearly full, and attitudes and practices are changing fast. In a recent study carried out by Cranfield University, scientists analysed samples from up to 30 metres deep from four different landfill sites. The analysis found Neodymium, Palladium, Copper and Aluminium with an estimated value of over $550 million. Dr Wagland of Cranfield University said: “There is clearly potential value in our landfills, considering we only looked at the soil-like materials within the landfill sites. It is unlikely that the recovery of only rare earth elements (REEs) and critical metals would be economically viable, however recover copper and aluminium and it starts to make sense. Further resource recovery is possible with the extraction of larger metal items and the reprocessing of plastics, adding even more value to the operation”.

The four traditional problems commercial compost producers have faced when attempting to stockpile mulch. The people here at EDGE have come up with a solution to these age old problems. The EDGE FTS Mulch Master combines traditional flipping and rotation with constant material flow. The FTS Mulch Master has been designed specifically for lower density, bulky materials such as mulch, compost and soils. Boasting a huge hopper capacity of 19.6yrd³, the FTS Mulch Master has a 25% additional buffer capacity over the standard EDGE FTS units with a bespoke hopper design to prevent material bridging.

“Whether it’s with a high speed grinder or loader, the only problem you will have with the FTS Mulch Master is keeping it fed” Chris Zwicky – Zwicky Processing & Recycling.

Vertical hopper wall inserts are also available for the most difficult of materials. The variable speed feeder conveyor enables an even spread of material and is further regulated via the double screwed forward/ reverse auger. The auger screw pattern pulls material towards it’s centre point of transfer from feeder belt to the main incline conveyor. The auger fulfils three roles; it conditions material by flipping and rotation allowing the material to separate, aerate and untangle as well regulating the flow of material and preventing material bridging at the transfer point. By combining the three functions of flipping, rotating and constant conveyor flow; the EDGE FTS Mulch Master prevents unwanted material friction and compaction. Material is fluffed up via the forward/ reverse feeder auger which allows the stockpiled material to breath whilst allowing the material to remain cool thus reducing the risk of combustion and anaerobic or “sour” mulch occurring.

PRODUCT FOCUS The FTS Mulch Master’s hydraulic variable working angle allows operators to control material discharge heights. By maintaining a minimum discharge height, operators can eliminate the age old problem of compaction that other conventional stockpilers create. The unit distributes the material evenly in a controlled area and is perfect for operators who are constrained for space. The financial benefits of operating a conveyor unit versus a wheel loader are well documented. Wheel loaders require much more scheduled services to maintain their running efficiency with a greater number of wear parts. Studies have shown that wheel loader maintenance can cost 95% more than conveyors annually. *Cash flow is an “occurring” problem for one in five small-business owners. Larger, small businesses are as likely to encounter cash flow problems, if not more so, than the smallest. On average, a wheel loader can cost up to of $245,000, a substantial outlay that may hinder a business financing other vital equipment to enable their business to grow. The FTS Mulch Master reduces the need for the number of loaders or dump trucks and the operators required to operate them. An EDGE FTS Mulch Master operates at maximum efficiency every hour of operation with minimum supervision.

Not only can the use of heavy machinery such as wheel loaders to stockpile material be costly, it can result in material compaction along with contamination of the material via the crossover of dirt, oil or other undesirable objects. When product quality is the major contributor to a producer’s success; contamination is a major threat to the success of the business and ultimately determine their market share. WEBSITE UPDATE!

C&D Management for McKinstry’s

You may have seen the EDGE website has been given a revamp with a host of new content and additional features added. The website now homes a simplified Quick Quote form featured on the website landing page.

Just a decade ago McKinstry’s Skip Hire like the majority of Irish recycling firms were taking 90% of all the waste collected across Northern Ireland straight to landfill. Today those figures have virtually been reversed, with over 90% of waste now being recycled and reused. A resource efficient Northern Ireland is at the centre of McKinstry Skip Hire’s business model. The company has worked hard to become a leader within the waste management industry by making significant investments in their Material Recovery Facility.

Under the brand new Spares section, you will find pages dedicated to Available Components, Parts Special Offers, Spare Parts Request Form and information on how to contact our Aftersales Team. Further additions include the Aftersales enquiry page which allows you to submit a quick enquiry to a member of our Aftersales team. You will also now find under the Slayer product page, a Slayer Enquiry Form alongside the “Book A Demo” function (available to the UK only). To ensure that we can provide the customer with the best possible support, we encourage customers to register their EDGE Equipment using the new Product Registration page. The form should be completed either by the customer or the dealer who can supply the customer’s details. Further additions come in the form of the updated Dealer portal area.

Why don’t you log-in and check out some of the new content now available?

“The set-up enables us to extract a greater percentage of material from our waste stream and creates high quality commodities which we can now sell on rather than paying to get rid of ” - McKinstry’s Operations Manager Aaron Rainey

Solution Skip Hire On visiting their large premises near the Belfast International Airport, you immediately get the feeling that this company knows exactly what it’s doing and where it’s going. The transparency of the municipal facility engenders trust in would-be customers. Based on a family owned, multi acre site, McKinstry Skip Hire Ltd now employs over 80 people and processes up to 155,000 tonnes of non-hazardous waste annually. ‘Landfill’ is a dirty word in these parts, and even the trommel fines are recovered with the introduction of new HMRC waste disposal regulation. Waste is received from the McKinstrys’ collection services, from all sectors, all over Northern Ireland. With 85% of material received being recovered and sold on, 10% is converted to high quality RDF, only 5% of waste received is sent to landfill. Finding another use for what is considered waste was at the crux of McKinstry’s turning to EDGE Innovate to provide a solution to their ever increasing C&D waste stream.

RECYCLING

From the initial discussions and testing, McKinstry’s and EDGE Innovate came up with the solution of a recovery plant that combines mechanical screening, manual picking and the latest Light Vs Heavy screening technology to divert huge volumes from landfill whilst creating new revenue streams. The C&D Recovery plant consists of an EDGE

TRT622 Track Trommel, a 4 bay picking station, over-band and magnetic head drums, eddy current, an EDGE Material Classifier and an EDGE TS65 Track Stockpiler. In total,

McKinstry Skip Hire processed and sold 28,868 tonnes of recycled aggregates in 2014. The new C&D plant has allowed McKinstrys to increase this figure to 41,434 tonnes. The current set-up extracts up to six different types of materials including; trommel fines, clean saleable hardcore, wood, PETE (polyethylene terepthalate), LTPE (low density polyethylene), ferrous and non-ferrous metals and high grade RDF.

Ultimately, operators of high speed grinders can be assured of greater uptime and vastly reduced maintenance costs when integrating an EDGE slow speed shredder into their production process. 26

It was for this very application that Beaver Grinding and Recycling approached EDGE Innovate regarding purchasing an EDGE Slayer XL. Based in Calgary Canada, the family owned Beaver Grinding & Recycling was established 13 years ago, specialising in waste, recycling and wood clearing operations for the Calgary region. Their waste recycling facility accepts and recycles a range of white waste wood including scrap pallets and crates, dimensional lumber and clean construction waste, cut offs, and trimmings and wood sawdust. Alongside their recycling service, Beaver Grinding and Recycling offer self-contained crews to undertake grinding, screening and brush cleaning projects throughout Alberta. With an impressive fleet of equipment that includes; high speed grinders, screeners, dozers, excavators, skidders, loaders, and rock trucks, Beaver Grinding & Recycling has built up a reputable reputation for providing an alternative to landfill. After extensive testing, Beaver Grinding and Recycling placed an order for an EDGE Slayer XL complete with an overband magnet.

Dave Brazel president of Beaver Grinding and Recycling has high praise for the EDGE Slayer XL “Since it’s commission we have witnessed an increase in production that has surpassed what we had projected. The EDGE Slayer has completely negated our need to pre-sort material and has increased the smooth running of our high speed grinder”. The fuel efficient Slayer sizes waste material into a uniform piece size which enable Beavers’ high speed grinder to process material much easier. With contaminates or difficult to shred materials such as metal now removed, the drama associated with grinding waste has also been eradicated. Beaver Grinding & Recycling has noticed a huge reduction in maintenance costs for their high speed grinder. Dave has also noticed an added bonus of the Edge shredder;

“due to the versatility and throughput of the EDGE slow speed grinder, it has given us the ability to process materials that we once considered to be waste into a saleable product which has be greatly welcomed”. Diverting waste from landfill and turning what was once regarded as waste into new revenue streams forms the overlying function of all Edge Recycling Range products. The EDGE Slayer offers a huge range of both rapid volume reduction and intricate piece sizing chambers to suit a vast array of applications. It was this versatility that lead Beaver Grinding and Recycling to select the EDGE shredder over other competitor models as it opened up new possibilities to Beaver’s grinding and clearing field projects.
