SPMC patient in close watch for COVID-19 By MAYA M. PADILLO patient who is currently confined at the Southern Philippines Medical Center (SPMC) is being monitored for showing symptoms of the coronavirus disease (Covid-19). The said patient is the 25th person under investigation (PUI) case in Davao since the new coronavirus outbreak.

cleared and in good conditions. SPMC chief of hospital Dr. Leopoldo “Bong” Vega told media during a press conference of the Department of Health-Davao Region on Covid-19 on Monday that the person under investigation (PUI) travelled overseas and is exhibiting Covid-like symptoms of cough and fever.
“We took a swab and he will be discharged anytime if the results will be negative,” Vega said. He assured that the PUI is admitted and cannot get out from the isolation facility of SPMC. “He is okay but he is fighting with us because he does not want to be confined. Currently he is doing alright and he is not running around,” he said.
Department of Health (DOH) 11 regional director Dr. Annabelle Yumang said the patient arrived in Davao City on March 2 and developed the symptoms on March 5 and sought consultation in a hospital. She said they still did not do the contact-tracing since the patient is still awaiting result of the test. “But once we get the results and its positive we
will do the contact-tracing,” she said. Last Saturday, Vega disclosed that there were two PUIs being tested at SPMC, but one patient was already discharged after testing negative. “We only have one PUI admitted right now,” he said. Vega maintained that there is still no confirmed
