Phivolcs tells people to stay calm amidst earthquakes

tay calm but be on guard. That’s the reminder of the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Philvolcs) amid the consecutive earthquakes that hit Davao and other nearby regions in Mindanao last week. “Dili dapat kahadlukan ang earthquake basta prepared lang ug kabalo unsa ang mga necessary measures ang buhaton,” Svetlana Catoera of Philvolcs said during the National Disaster Resilience Month seminar and orientation held at the Grand Regal Hotel on Monday, July 15. Catoera, however, said individuals must have knowledge on earthquake preparedness, a set of measures taken at the individual, organisational and societal level to minimize the effects of an earthquake. Preparedness measures can range from securing heavy objects, structural modi�ications and storing supplies, to having insurance, an emergency kit, and evacuation plans.
