he city government of Davao is opening 3,000 slots to bus drivers to enrol in the National Certi�icate (NC) III bus driving course under the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) in preparation for the implementation of the High Priority Bus System (HPBS). Bus driver aspirants of the High Priority Bus System (HPBS) must �irst secure a level 3 competency bus driving course certi�icate to qualify for employment. As of February 14, there are 365 applicants who have applied for NC3 bus driving at TESDA. More than 7,000 jeepney drivers and operators will be affected once the operation of the mod-
ern bus system starts. However, the HPBS is expected to open up new job opportunities as it will need drivers for the initial 1,000 buses. For drivers and operators who will be affected by the transport modernization program, TESDA also offers various skills training, the top priority for which is a NC3 level course for bus driving and other automotive related

We are looking for about 3,000 bus drivers,” said Norman Baloro, Philippine Commission on the Urban Poor (PCUP) head and HPBS spokesperson. Baloro said the cost of the training of the drivers, which will run for 20 days, will be shouldered by TESDA.
