arious establishments and government agencies in Davao City are encouraged to hire persons with autism.
Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a neurological and developmental disorder that begins early in childhood and lasts throughout a person's life. It affects how a person acts and interacts with others, communicates, and learns. Febe Matthews, executive committee of Autism Society of the Philippines-Davao told media as long as the person with autism is functioning and is able to follow instructions, she/he can be employed. “If the government can employ them kahit na utos- utosan lang nila, they are capable. This is as long as the people surrounding them can also understand them,” she said. The ASP-Davao has a program called Autism Works career placement initiative wherein they partnered with establishments in hiring people with autism. ASP has successfully identiied compassionate workplaces and developed accommodated training programs for job success.
