Mindanao's 2019 GRDP expected to hit 7.2% By MAYA M. PADILLO

indanao is expected to ride on its momentum for 2019 with a usual higher than national growth average of 7.1 percent of the Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) on the back of sustained expansion of services, industry and agri-fisheries sectors across Mindanao regions.
Assistant Secretary Romeo Montenegro, deputy executive director of Mindanao Development Authority (MinDA), told media that in nearly two decades, Mindanao’s economy has managed to demonstrate uninterrupted growth from 5.4 percent in 2001-2002 to 7.2 in 20182019, with an
average growth rate of 5.8 percent. Montenegro said from 2010 to 2019, Mindanao posted an average GRDP growth rate of 6.6 percent, higher than national average of 6.2 percent. He said this is most notable, even against the backdrop of power supply
shortfall and rotating brownouts during first half of the decade in review. “Such robust Mindanao performance showed Mindanao’s resiliency amidst adversity, and the island being able to gain from structural reforms and sustained development pro-
grams. These measures helped encourage investments that create jobs, raise incomes and improve people’s lives,” he said. Montenegro clarified this is just preliminary data as processed by MinDA because the final data from the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA)
