DepEd 11 allows holding of recognition, closing exercises inside campus only

By MAYA M. PADILLO he Department of Education 11 (DepEd 11) on Tuesday said it is allowing schools in Davao City to hold graduation and recognition exercises provided that these will be conducted inside the campus.

to be held inside the campus as off-campus activities are not allowed under DepEd Order (DO) 66, s. 2017, the implementing

guidelines on the conduct of off-campus activities for public and private schools. “Also, school personnel and learners that have respiratory problems are not allowed to attend the recognition and graduation activities,” Atillo said. In the latest DepEd Memorandum 034, s.2020 on coronavirus disease (COVID-19), it directed that all off-campus activities as

de�ined in DO No. 66 are suspended, effective immediately. It also stated that activities that involve congregation of learners within the school may proceed, provided that all personnel and learners exhibiting respiratory infections must not attend. Meanwhile, Ateneo de Davao University (AdDU) opted to postpone its graduation, recognition, and

moving-up ceremonies as precautionary measure against the spread of COVID-19. Based on the statement shared on social media, the university has decided to postpone such activities after careful consideration and consultation with key stakeholders. AdDU’s decision also heeds the Davao City Government Guidelines No. 4

which mandates “the postponement of recognition and graduation activities until the public emergency is lifted or withdrawn.” The statement read that each unit, from Grade School to the College of Law, will announce its new schedules of commencement exercises after the public health emergency is over.
