Property owners warned on the proliferation of substandard construction materials By MAYA M. PADILLO
R
ecent earthquakes and disasters have served as eye openers for property owners in Davao City to be more watchful against substandard products particularly when buying construction materials. City Planning and Development Ofice (CPDO) head Ivan Chin Cortez told Edge Davao that the issue on the proliferation of substandard materials in the city poses a big problem and that it will require an interagency monitoring as this will compromise the safety and strength of the building. “It is a common practice that if you go to a hardware store they will always ask you if its standards
or substandard. That is the lookout of the property owners because it’s gonna be an investment that will be put to waste once it crumbles down to the ground,” Cortez said. Cortez reiterated it is the lookout of the property owners to ensure that the materials used for the construction of the building are really according to the standards as speciied in the plan.
