he Committee on Health of the Davao City Council has urged residents to stop dumping human wastes and proposed a Zero Open Defecation Ordinance to be passed. This after the number of coliform bacteria in the mouth of Davao River was
revealed. In her privilege speech during the regular session of
the city council, on Tuesday, Councilor Mary Joselle Villafuerte disclosed that the Department of Environment and Natural Resources-Environmental Management Bureau (DENR-EMB) during the recent inter-agency
meeting with City Health that coliform bacteria in the mouth of the river is “overwhelmingly high.” Villafuerte said samples collected at the mouth of the river revealed a level of 900,000 mnl or 100 ml of coliform
bacteria. "This is an overwhelming number because for a water sample to be considered safe for drinking the number of coliform bacteria must be zero and when I asked EMB what was the accept-
able level, the response was 100," she said. Villafuerte, who is also the city council's Committee on Health chair will request and urge the Sanitation Unit of the City Health Of�ice to conduct
