HIGH ALERT ON DAVAO SEABOARDS PCG on tight watch due to LPA DA notes price increase in basic commodities

HE Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) in Davao region is now on full alert status as Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) raised a gale warning for the region’s seaboards due to prevailing low pressure area (LPA). Coast Guard director Commander Oscar Endona Jr. told EDGE Davao on Thursday that small to medium fishing vessels will not be allowed to sail to and from the areas when alarms will be elevated to gale warning.

Endona added that rescue teams and medical personnel of the coast guard are also on full alert status. “We are still monitoring the weather bulletin of the state bureau and directives of Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Center (DRRMC),”Endona mentioned. Endona added that the PCG is also on alert they are still expecting that more people will arrive on the ports due to Undas. Meanwhile, PAGASA is eyeing on two low pressure areas (LPAs) near Mindanao.

According to senior weather specialist Gerry Pedrico, the first LPA is embedded along the intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ) affecting Southern Luzon, the Visayas, and Mindanao. Pedrico added that the second LPA is entering the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR)has a bigger chance of becoming a tropical depression compared to the first LPA. In preparation to the potential impact of the LPAs, PCG said the team has prepared for telecommunications and built to emergency shelters.
