DUTERTE NO BET FOR U.S. PREXY By FUNNY PEARL A. GAJUNERA

P

RESIDENT Duterte says he would rather keep his mouth shut on who his bet is in the upcoming US presidential elections – Democratoc candidate Hilary Clinton or Republic nominee Donald Trump.

The President said that he would rather gamble on his “favourite hero” Russian President Vladimir Putin. President Duterte said that he would rather keep his personal opinion on the two presidential candidates to himself, as being vocal

about it might affect the relationship between the Philippines and the United States after the election. “I cannot gamble an answer,” he said, adding, “Because either way, it would affect, they might create a hostility here, antagonism here, so I am better off in saying that my favorite hero is Putin.” But the President said that he did not agree with the observation that he shares a lot of common characteristics with Trump. He noted that Trump has identified international

terrorism as a major global concern, something which the Philippine president has been vocal about. “Trump is airing something which is should also be a concern. One is terrorism. Everybody should be worried about terroris, the President said. He, however, pointed out that the U.S. may be inadvertently responsible for the rash of terrorist activities. “Americans somehow, not all, somehow provided the reasons for terrorism,” he said.

He explained that the Americans “exported” terrorism with what they have done in Iraq, and particularly for being responsible for the death of Saddam Hussein and accusing him of stockpiling weapons of mass destruction which were proven to be mere hearsay. While President Duterte said that he cannot publicly announce his choice for U.S. president, he made it clear that he idolized the Russian president. The President is set to visit Russia next month.
