Davao parks, city hall now Wi-Fi hotspots

AVAO CITY’S public parks and the entire city hall building are now Wi-Fi hotspots. And everyone can enjoy online connectivity in these areas - for free. Ricarte Franco, City Information and Technology Center (CITC) chief, said the free Wi-Fi project is in partnership with the Department of Information and Communication Technology (DICT) and was recently launched just as the city started celebrating the annual Kadayawan sa Dabaw festival. Franco said the city is among the first local government units chosen for the national government’s free internet access project “Juan Konek”. Free Wi-Fi can be accessed at the People’s Park, Osmeña Park, Quezon Park, and Rizal Park. Franco said a user can enjoy up to 100MB of free data.

RIMINAL Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) chief Supt. Edilberto Leonardo bared that the sale of illegal drugs is still rampant at the Davao Prison and Penal Farm (DPPF) even
with the strict inspection and security procedures being carried out by the facility’s jail guards. Leonardo said that based on the CIDG’s recent intelligence gathering, they
have found out that drug-related transactions are still taking place inside the prison. “I must admit that based on our recent intel reports, there are still [illegal] drugs
inside the DAPECOL (DPPF). There are still drug transactions happening inside,” Leonardo said. He revealed the DPFF has been on the watch list of the CIDG due to intelligence
reports they have been receiving regarding illicit activities that are taking place within the facility. Leanardo even admitted that his men have purchased
