HUMMING A NEW “ TUNE Rody: Let’s see if there’s a space for me By ARMANDO B. FENEQUITO JR. abf@edgedavao.net
LET’S dance and see if there is a space for me.” This was Davao City Mayor Rodrigo R. Duterte’s new tune as he addressed the issue of his possible run for the presidency in 2016. Duterte, however, began the interview on Monday night at People’s Park with his usual denial of any plans to run for president.
The mayor reiterated his three reasons: he has no money to fund the campaign, he is already old, and his family and friends do not want him to run. “These are the thing that I want to reduce in one sentence: It is no longer my time,” he said. The mayor, however, gave room to speculation by saying he was “a liar” and that he might change
his mind in the coming days. “If I change my mind, I’m a liar,” he said. “Let us go by the music. Let’s dance and see if there is a space for me,” he added.
