AVAO City Mayor Rodrigo R. Duterte will lead the unveiling of peace monument in Paquibato district today as part of the celebration of 116th Independence Day.

“I will just go there to spread goodwill,” Duterte told reporters. In Paquibato, the mayor said that he will have a talk with the lumads about the development the government plans to bring in the area. Duterte is expected to introduce the proposed Palm Oil plantation investment of a Malaysian firm in the area which investors promised could bring employment opportunities to residents and huge revenues for the city. “Ako ang mag garantiya… sa kanila lahat yan hindi tayo makialam,” stressed Duterte. Duterte said that he does not personally have any quarrel with the New People’s Army (NPA) but kept his stand as government official.
“Ang kaso kasi ang Armed Forces (of the Philippines) is their natural enemy,” he said. The peace monument that will be unveiled will become the marker where the names of the soldiers, rebels and civilians who died in the encounter in the area shall be enscripted. Duterte will be joined by officials from different national agencies who will also join the celebration in Paquibato district. In the invitation program circulated to media yesterday, AFP Chief of Staff Gen. Emmanuel T. Bautista will be one of today’s special guests.
