HIGHER POWER BILLS DLPC explains reasons for increase in monthly bill

WITh the disturbing brownouts, why is our power bill higher? That is the nagging question thrown by some residents of Davao City after being surprised to find their monthly power bill increase instead of going down with the long rotational brownouts. Davao Light and Power and Company (DLPC) yesterday explained the cause of the possible increase in consumers’ power bills despite the interrupted consumption due to the rotating brownouts. DLPC assistant vice president for corporate communications and branding Ross C. Luga admitted that there will be a possible increase in generation charges resulting to increase in power bills with the electric company using expensive sources of power. According to Luga, there

will be an estimated increase of .45 centavos per kilowatt hour on generation charge for the month of May since this month has the longest power interruption and the DLPC took their supply from the fuel-fired power plant which is expensive compared to hydroelectric power. “A typical customer, ang average sa atong consumers sa residential is 175kwh 175kwh multiplied by .45 centavos... So, comparing May and February mga about P78.75,” Luga explained referring to the possible additional payment on that will appear on their electric bill for this month.
