STERN WARNING. iCyclone News Media Website’s Facebook page released this advisory at 4:00 p.m. yesterday: Current satellite estimates suggest Super Typhoon HAGUPIT (RUBY) has winds of 155 knots (285 km/hr)-- a very powerful Cat 5. The current JMA and PAGASA forecasts bring the center ashore on the Leyte coast Sunday morning. IMPORTANT: Very few people would have died in YOLANDA if they understood that a typhoon's storm surge is like a tsunami-- the ocean rises up and comes onto land. Even if you're in the path of RUBY, you'll be OK if you ride out the storm in a strong (concrete) building that's at least 10 meters above sea level. So, it's very simple: STRONG BUILDING ON HIGH GROUND. This is all you need to know, and all your loved ones need to know. AS LONG AS EVERYONE UNDERSTANDS THIS AND ACTS ACCORDINGLY, THERE WILL BE VERY FEW DEATHS.
DEC. 4, 8 AM
HAGUPIT (RUBY) is now a Super Typhoon, with winds of 130 knots (240 km/hr)-- and it might even be stronger. Its resemblance to another recent super typhoon in this region is striking. Just as striking is the continued stark disagreement between the top computer models: the Euro still insists it will hit, the GFS insists it will miss. The stakes are very high, and we at iCyclone are NOT forecasters-- we're stormchasers who make decisions based on instinct. For this reason, we're not going to express an opinion about which model will win. Instead, we urge Filipinos to follow the official forecasts from PAGASA and the JMA, which both show the storm hitting the Philippines within the next 72 hours.

rayers for safety from impending supertyphoon ruby flooded social media as government forecasters say a powerful storm will likely slam into the same central Philippine region smothered by Typhoon Haiyan last year, prompting villagers to flee from coastal homes and sparking panic-buying of food, water and gasoline. Forecasters said yesterday that Typhoon Hagupit, which was packing sustained winds of 195 kilometers per hour (122 mph) and gusts of up to 230 kph, may hit eastern samar province on saturday and barrel inland along the same route,
