That was the terse statement from Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte yesterday shortly after three suspected members of a Metro Manila-based kidnap-for-ransom gang were killed in a dramatic shootout with police at high noon outside a local branch of Allied Bank Thursday. Davao City Police Office (DCPO) chief Ronald dela Rosa said the suspects were
accompanied by their victim, Sally Chua, a businesswoman they had snatched at gunpoint in Quezon City last July 5, to withdraw the ransom money of P15 million from the Allied Bank on C.M. Recto Street. Earlier, the local police had received a tip from the Anti Kidnapping Group (AKG) of Camp Crame about the kidnapping and proceeded to set up an entrapment operation that ultimately resulted

Abude wants traffic route changes I
F new Traffice Management Center (TMC) chief Dionisio Abude could have his way, he would make some changes at two major street crossings in Davao City which he believes would help decongest traffic in those areas. Guesting at the iSpeak forum Thursday, Abude said he proposes to allow vehicular traffic to turn left from Quirino Avenue to Magallanes Street and for vehicular traffic from Matina to turn left from Quirino to San Pedro Street Extension.

He said, this will make it easier for drivers because they do not have to take longer routes to enter those streets. “As it is being done presently, if you are coming from Quirino and want to go to Magallanes, you have to do it via San Pedro Extension along with other vehicles coming from Padre Selga Street and Bankerohan before you reach Magallanes. My proposal to turn left from Quirino to Magallanes would make it much easier,” he said.
