Expanded anti-smoking ordinance takes effect in Davao on Friday

he anti-smoking law in Davao City will be expanded beginning Friday and the world of smokers will begin to shrink.

Ordinance No. 0367-12, also known as “The New Comprehensive Anti-Smoking Ordinance” is set for implementation three days from now after it was signed last year. he anti-smoking campaign in Davao City has netted 2,356 violators in 2012 alone. The figures are expected to increase with the full implementation of the expanded anti-smoking ordinance on Friday. Anti-Smoking Task Force (ASTF) head Dr. Domilyn Villareiz told media yesterday at the Kapehan sa Dabaw SM Annex that the successful implementation of the campaign by the authorities made Davao City a model smoke-free city, not only in the Philippines but also in Asia. “Davao City has always been a hall of Famer in winning the Red Orchid Award from the Department of health, that’s why we need to preserve the citation by imposing a more comprehensive anti-smoking ordinance starting this 31st of May,” she said. Ordinance No. 0367-12, known as The New Comprehensive Anti-Smoking Ordinance was passed by the City Council last year and approved by Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio early this year.
