IxTy percent of the election returns from the city’s clustered precincts have been transmitted to the City Board of Canvassers (CBOC) late last night but the Commission on Elections (Comelec) refused to post any results to the dismay of the media who stayed up to catch the first wave of the canvass. “We will not show any results today because it is not in the rules,” said controversial city election lawyer Aimee Ferolin-Ampoloquio. The announcement was met with disappointment from the group of mediamen who waited at the Sangguniang Panlungsod last night for the release of partial results.
Ampoloquio, who heads the CBOC, said withholding the results will not affect transparency “for as long as transmissions are coming in.” Canvassing started at 7 o’clock last night at the SP Session Hall. n in-form Mayor Sara Duterte made yesterday’s elections her first public appearance after an extended maternity leave while her father and successor Vice Mayor Rodrigo Duterte, in a playful mood, waited towards the close of the polls to cast his vote. Duterte, who will end her maternity leave of absence today, arrived at the Daniel R. Aguinaldo national High School in Matina shortly before 10:00 a.m. walking from the school gate to her assigned polling center for precinct no. 1245A of Cluster 383. Looking fit since giving birth last April 1, Mayor Duterte went straight inside the polling center and was done voting after less than ten minutes. She had no problem slipping her ballot into the PCOS machine, shook hands with a member of the Board of Election Inspectors manning the machine and had her index finger marked with indelible ink.
