powerful earthquake jolted three popular central Philippine islands on Tuesday, tearing down buildings, triggering landslides and leaving at least 73 people dead, authorities said. The toll rose from an earlier figure of 32. Fifteen of the confirmed fatalities were in Cebu, the second most important city in the Philippines and a gateway to some of the country’s most beautiful beaches, civil defence office spokesman Reynaldo Balido told reporters.
