THE Brokenshire Memorial Hospital continues to advance the medical arts in Davao city with the unveiling of their cutting-edge endoscopy system utilising the Olympus EVIS EXERA III last Wednesday and is currently the only hospital in Southern Mindanao to have one.

Geraint Montinola, the sales consultant of Olympus bared during an interview last Wednesday that the machine is worth Ph11.5 million and this is the first in Southern Mindanao. He added that the art of endoscopy is about finding and treating gastrointestinal diseases as early as possible and with the EVIS EXERA III, physicians can see the interior of the body more clearly than ever before minimizing patient discomfort. “Brokenshire Medical Hospital is the fourth hospital who purchased our endoscopic machine, the

other three are in Cagayan de Oro, Iloilo and Manila” Montinola said.

Dr. Jun Pilapil Chairperson of the BMH’s endoscopy unit said that the machine is very helpful because it can give clearer visualization on cancer detection and can also facilitate colonoscopy. “The presence of ‘narrow band imaging’ enhances suspicious images for cancer in stomach and colon” Pilapil said.

Pilapil added that they have completed the training in Manila for the manipulation of the endoscopic machine and it is ready to be used for the patients that need it the most. “For the patients who will be examined using the new endoscopic machine will be paying Ph20,000 to Ph25,000 per session” Pilapil said.
