avao vice Mayor Rodrigo R. Duterte said that the unspecified amount of money that he gave away during a visit to a guerrilla zone somewhere in Compostela valley province did not come from the government but from the good graces of a lady philanthropist whose name he did not disclose. Duterte divulged in a press conference

at the Grand Men Seng Hotel January 8 that the money he brought with him and gave away on the anniversary of the New Peoples army was a donation the lady who owns a popular restaurant. Duterte said, “Maybe the military and the people will think that I gave away government money to the NPa, but the money, whether you believe it or not, came
