[This editorial comes out today as it will appear in three other newspaper members of the Philippine Press Institute in Davao City to register our joint protest against specific provisions of the Cybercrime Prevention Act [RA 10175], which takes effect today, while continuing to ignore calls to pass the Freedom of Information Act].

n September 12, 2012, President Benigno S. Aquino III signed into law Republic Act 10175, or the Cybercrime Prevention Act. While purporting to address crimes being committed with the use of the Internet and other electronic communication, the law violates fundamental freedoms and several provisions of the 1987 Philippine Constitution.
