RDR joins SC pursue Enhanced Justice on Wheels in DavNorte T D

AVAO del Norte Gov. Rodolfo P. del Rosario joined the Supreme Court yesterday in pursuing the Enhanced Justice on Wheels (EJOW) program in the province. As the Supreme Court rolls out EJOW this year, the province was again chosen to host the program and for the third time, according to Tagum City Executive Judge Rowena Apao-Adlawan. Through EJOW, various services were made available in Capitol, Tagum City including Court Hearings and Mo-

bile Court-Annexed Mediation, Information Dissemination for Baragay Officials, Jail VisitationMedical/Dental Services and Legal Aid, and Dialogue with Supreme Court Justices and Officials. In his short message during the activity, Gov. del Rosario expressed appreciation to the privilege the Supreme Court gave to the province with the program. “This program (EJOW) does not only transform an ordinary bus into a courtroom, it also transformed the way justice is

done in this country,” the governor said. “It truly brings justice closer to the people,” he added. Giving his message as speaker during the activity, Deputy Court Administrator Antonio M. Eugenio Jr. described EJOW as “one response to the malady” afflicting detention prisoners. Recounting his talk with few detention prisoners during his visit to the provincial jail a day before the activity, the Deputy Court Administrator said that the detention prisoners’ “concern is not

that they are innocent or guilty but that their cases be tried, heard, and resolved promptly and expeditiously.” As of October 2011, according to the Supreme Court, “the EJOW program has resulted in the release of 6,364 prisoners, the successful mediation of 6,953 cases, free medical and dental services to 12,790 inmates and free legal aid to 1,010 prisoners, and benefited 18,263 barangay officials and indigenous peoples through the legal rights information drive.” [MeRA GRAce e. Del Rosario said the sanctuary is going to give essential care, protection, and social services to juvenile delinquents until their values and social functioning are mended. Besides physical, emotional, and spiritual development, technical and vocational skills will be a part of their rehabilitation program, in order to amply prepare them for their integration back into the mainstream of society. The governor stressed the facility offers a safer place for the CICLs, compared to putting them in jails alongside hardened criminal-prisoners. [NoeL
