C

ontrary to popular belief, the mailing industry remains integral in moving goods and continues to hold its own as a trillion peso industry.

“We are still earning, of course, even if we have emails now, the mailing industry is still relevant,”Philippine Postal Corporation market specialist Rey Basilan told Monday’s Kapehan Sa Dabaw at the SM City-Annex. Basilan, said that 80% of the trillion peso collection comes from the traditional mail operations, belying belief

that it has long been dead because of digital communication (text messaging services, email, and social media). He recalled that before the advent of e-mail, individual-to-individual mailing transactions comprised the bulk of their business. “But now, company-to-individual delivery of commercial documents and

international express mails transactions increased and it is now comprising most of our business,” Basilan said pointing out that there is no other way to move and to deliver products/ documents but by mail. Basilan said that Philpost, is a government-owned and controlled corporation responsible for providing postal services in the Philippines. He added that Express mail is a service for domestic and international mail and is in most countries governed

by a country’s own postal administration. “Express Mail is sending hardcopies of important and legal documents and merchandise that would be the biggest advantage we have to the growth of the post’s operations of e-commerce,” He said. Data revealed by Philipost that 40% mails are posted from express mails and 60% of it is distributed to ordinary mails registered in 2017. Basilan said that the In-
