Proposed City Ordinance to punish recruiters By JECIA ANNE OPIANA

HE Davao City Council will craft an ordinance to punish recruiters of extremist terrorist organization Islamic State of Iraq and Syria popularly known as the ISIS group and its other affiliated lawless armed groups. According Vice Mayor Paolo Z. Duterte, the ordinance will be called “An ordinance punishing the act of recruiting and membership to ISIS and to their allied terrorist groups including those professing support thereto, manufacture and
distribution of propaganda materials and failure to report ISIS related activities to law enforcement agencies.” Currently, the said ordinance will undergo committee hearing under peace and public safety committee chaired by Councilor Nilo Abellera, Jr. and hopefully be will be on first reading before the council in two to three weeks’ time. “Gidali namo na kay threat na karon sa atoa. sa barangay level,” Vice Mayor Duterte said in an interview on Tuesday. Pulong said that anyone who will violate the said ordinance will be obliged to pay a penalty of P5,000 and one year of imprisonment. The ISIS group also called the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) is a Jihadist militant group in Iraq and Syria that follows a fundamentalist Wahhabi movement. The group was the alleged perpetrators of the recent terror at-
tacks in Manchester and London, United earlier this year. On May, President Rodrigo Roa Duterte said that the Maute group, who occupied Marawi City on May 23 are affiliated with the ISIS terror group.
