T least 50 houses were gutted down when fire broke out at Barangay Wilfredo Aquino, Agdao, Davao City 15 minutes after the break of New Year’s Day last Monday. Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) investigators initially reported that the blaze, the very �irst �ire in 2018 in Davao City originated in a residence near the corner Lakatan and Marang streets, Jereza Subdivision. Barangay captain Leo Aquino said the residents
were in the middle of the New Year revelry when the �ire took place. Aquino quoted purok leader Neneng Guerra as having reported that the residents were enjoying their New Year parties singing and dancing to the tune of jumpy songs when some-
body noticed smoke and �lames coming out from the second �loor of one of the houses in the area. Aquino said responding �iretrucks arrived in 10 minutes, however, the �ire spread very fast in the neighborhood where most of the houses were made of light materials. BFP Davao City of�icer-in-charge Chief Insp. Joycelyn Grant said the �ire reportedly started on the second �loor of the house of a certain Flora Rodriguez.
