ayor Sara Duterte-Carpio on Tuesday said the Davao Peace Committee had up to November 17 to reach out to local commanders of the rebel New Peoples Army if they are interested in holding peace talks with city government. “We are reaching out to them if they are interested to sit down and talk,” she said, adding that committee had assigned members to sound off three NPA commanders
for the prospects of holding localized peace talks. She said three NPA commanders were identi�ied only by their aliases. The committee held its �irst meeting Tuesday at the Davao City Hall conference. DCP was created under the Executive Order 32 series of 2017 based on the general welfare clause of the local government code to initiate talks with the NPAs operating in the territorial jurisdiction of
Davao City. “Now that we are institutionalizing the committee, we want to get an assurance from the NPAs that they indeed interested to talk peace talks,” she said. All the members of the DCP, chaired by Mayor Carpio, were present. With her is her chief of staff, Raul A. Nadela Jr.. The mayor made it clear the committee will not tolerate representatives of members.
During the meeting, DCP technical adviser Irene M. Santiago suggested that the members of the committee should gather more data to be able to know the grievances of the other party aside from refreshing their knowledge on peace building. As agreed upon, a member has been tasked to reach out to the NPAs and to wait for their response. Santiago was chosen as
