Mandatory DQR scanning in establishments starts today

T

he city government of Davao will officially begin the mandatory DQR scanning in all establishments in Davao City effective today (February 3, 2021).

The order is based on Executive Order No. 2 Series of 2021.

Section 1 of the EO requires all individual

offices and establishments to scan the DQR of the individuals entering their premises or post their establishment DQR ready

for scanning by individuals.

However, offices and establishments that are not enclosed or are not inside a structure with a roof and walls are exempted to scan the DQR. These include milk tea stall, ambulant vendor, lechon manok stand, sarisari store, bakery, palengke stall; and buildings that contain several offices or stores inside such as malls,

hospitals, and commercial complex.

In the case of individual stores and offices, it is the establishment that will scan the DQR..

The city also advised all establishments to ensure that they have downloaded the latest version of the mobile scanner and all individuals are advised to ensure that their respective

surveillance program called “BABay ASF” (Bantay ASF sa Barangay), which is a proactive biosecurity and surveillance program envisioned to halt the spread of ASF from infected to non-infected areas in both commercial and backyard farms can help the region in managing ASF. In December last year, DA 11 confirmed that the ASF has entered Davao City

in February 2020 with cases recorded in Barangays Lamanan and Dominga in Calinan. In March, an ASF case was recorded in Barangay Inayangan, still in Calinan and another cases recorded in Barangay Magsaysay in Marilog District, and in Lumiad.

On the other hand, Lim said there is an immediate need to increase the ship-

ment of hogs from other ASF free areas in the country in order to stabilize the supply and prices of pork brought about by ASF. ASF dampened higher production of pork, which in turn, has led to spike of pork prices.

Ex-CHO chief leads Covid-19 TF vaccination cluster special team

ormer Davao City Health Office (CHO) head Dr. Joy Villafuerte, who retired on January 29, was appointed to head the special team of the vaccination cluster of the Davao City COVID-19 Task Force, which was recently reorganized to align with the national action plan.

Davao City Mayor Inday Sara Duterte bared this during her Davao City Disaster Radio (DCDR) program held Monday, February 1.

She said, “She used to be our CHO head, nag-retire na sya last Friday (She retired on Friday). She’s coming back today to head the special team on vaccination cluster sa atong (of our) Davao City COVID-19 Task Force.”

The vaccination cluster, according to her, also has other personnel with their specific tasks.

Duterte said while the Davao City COVID-19 Task Force used to focus on the COVID-19 response, it was restructured to include two components: vaccination and recovery, to be aligned with the national government’s action plan.

She, however, called on Dabawenyos, saying, “Kinahanglan siguro i-manage sa mga tawo ilang mga expectations. Kay pag musulti ta nga dunay bakuna na muabot, it does not mean nga mabakunahan na tang tanan, okay? Because kanang bakuna nga muabot

sa national government, syempre ila nang tunga-tungaon sa tibuok nasud. Dili lang Davao City ang ilang tagaan og bakuna (People must manage their expectations.

Thus, she said most likely the city will only receive as many vaccines from the national government that will be directed for all health workers in hospitals and allied medical institutions who are working on confirmed or suspected COVID-19 patients.

Sara urges SP to pass plastics ban ordinance

nvironmental groups in Davao City have found a strong ally in Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio after she declared on Monday that the passage of the ordinance banning single-use plastics in Davao City is urgent and requested the Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) to immediately act for it to be approved.

“I was requested to submit a letter requesting Sangguniang Panlungsod to act on the said ordinance.

Yes, we intent on writing the SP na urgent ang pagpasa sa single-use plastics ordinance. The ordinance is with Councilor Mahipus,” the mayor said.

Mahipus, Jr. earlier proposed Single-Use Plastic Regulation Ordinance 202 aiming to reduce the use of single-use plastics (SUPs), which are “disposable plastics” and plastic products “conceived, designed, or placed on the market to be used only once over a short time span before being dis-

posed or discarded.”

In the said measure, 10 items were to be prohibited in Davao City namely drinking cups (recyclable or non-recyclable), plastic condiments (sauce or gravy container), plastic cup lids or covers, plastic stirrers, plastic straw, plastic cutleries (like spoon, fork, or knife), plastic meal packaging, plastic hand gloves, plastic materials used as buntings, and plastic materials used as balloon stick whether recyclable or non-recyclable.

Mayor Sara in certifying the proposed “Single-use Plastic Ban” ordinance in the 19th City Council as urgent as this will help to continue the progress of the said ordinance.

IDIS vowed to continue to work with the city government of Davao until the passage of the ordinance and to continue to pursue a more sustainable alternative.

2,000 fishers, poor guys get aid from Pulong, DSWD

total of 2,002 beneficiaries received aid from the government during the continuation of the Livelihood Assistance and Anti-Drug Campaign Caravan 2021 of the First Congressional District Office and the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).

Of the beneficiaries, 290 are fisherfolks. The beneficiaries received P15,000.00 cash from the Office of Rep. Paolo Z. Duterte through the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Office.

Roger Monsalud, 61, president of the Talomo Center Beach Nagkahiusang Mananagat Association, said the fisherfolks have a hard time fishing nowadays due to the pandemic because they had to abide with the strict health and quarantine protocols.

"Dili mi makapangisda adlaw-adlaw kay kinahanglan namo mag agad sa adlaw na pwede mi makagawas base sa FM pass. Di sab mi makapalawot ug tuda kay naa tay curfew (We cannot go fishing everyday or anytime we want because we have to rely on the schedule based from our food and medicine (FM) pass and the

curfew implemented in our city)," Monsalud said, adding that he is grateful with the support of the government to fill-in their needs.

Forty-five-year-old fisherman Nestor Racaza said the assistance is a big help to them, since they are now able to buy new fishnets and gears necessary for their livelihood.

Aside from the fisherfolks, Duterte's office will also be giving assistance to other individuals under the first district. The office earlier said the caravan aims to help the poorest of the poor affected by the pandemic.

Gov’t infra program for 2021 to boost manufacturing sector T he government’s 2021 infrastructure program is expected to partly boost Philippines’ manufacturing sector this year and help address the contraction in domestic growth and economic activities because of the pandemic.

In a report, Rizal Commercial Banking Corporation (RCBC) chief economist Michael Ricafort said

the infrastructure program, aimed to be around PHP1 trillion annually from 20162022, is expected to support

the expansion to 52.5 of the Markit Manufacturing Purchasing Managers Index (PMI).

Citing government data, he said the rise in the PMI last December is “a pleasant surprise” and is the highest in more than two years or since December 2018.

He said this development transpired even amid the movement restrictions to address the rise of

coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) infections. “(This is) a leading indicator that could suggest further pick-up in business/ economic activities even after the Christmas season in December 2020,” he added.

The uptick in the PMI last December is better than the 49.2 last November.

An index below 50 indicates contraction while figures 50 and above shows

growth.

“For the coming months of 2021, increased infrastructure spending, as part of the priorities of the economic recovery program, would benefit contractors and manufacturing industries that are part of the supply chain/value chain,” Ricafort said The government’s infrastructure spending is also expected to boost economic activities, especially in rural

areas, “given (the) high multiplier effects on real estate/ property and in many other related/allied industries,” he said.

Its impact is likewise seen to boost the other expected growth drivers this year that include the continued re-opening of the domestic economy, eventual availability of Covid-19 vaccines, and the impact of monetary easing last year.

Improving manufacturing sector signals economic recovery: DTI A

epartment of Trade and Industry (DTI) Secretary Ramon Lopez on Monday welcomed the improvement in the country’s manufacturing performance in January, noting this signals economic recovery for the Philippines.

The IHS Markit Philippines Manufacturing Purchasing Managers’ Index (PMI) survey reported that the country’s manufacturing sector improved for the first time since March 2020 with a score of 52.5, above the neutral score of 50.

“We are encouraged by the signs of economic recovery that we are seeing, not only in the January manufacturing PMI but also those that point towards longer-lasting economic rebound. Clearly, the whole-of-government effort on the calibrated and safe reopening of the economy

was key to this,” Lopez said in a statement.

Lopez added the latest PMI survey on the Philippine manufacturing sector underscores the importance of the REBUILD – Revitalizing Businesses, Investments, Livelihoods, and Domestic Demand – economic strategy of the government.

DTI’s REBUILD strategy aims to bring back consumer confidence to revitalize domestic demand and create more opportunities for local manufacturers.

“The increase in PMI is a good development and we expect more gains for the economy,” he added.

Lopez said the government is aware of the challenges faced by Philippine-based manufacturers, particularly issues on supply chain disruptions and rising input costs.

“We will address these

in the Recovery Cluster of the National Task Force, especially in the Task Group on Economic Recovery (TGER) to ensure that we can sustain the expansion of the manufacturing sector in the coming months,” he added.

The TGER was created to push programs that would restimulate economic activities in the country to counter the adverse impacts of the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) pandemic.

The task group’s programs focus on assisting the labor force to be work-ready and be able to adapt to the changing needs of industries, taking advantage of technology for continued business operations, and promoting the country as an investment destination and safe destination for tourism.

PCSO generates P18.63-B in 2020 despite pandemic

espite the suspension of lotto games for three months last year due to coronavirus pandemic, the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) generated a total PHP18.63 billion sales from its games in 2020.

During the inauguration of the PCSO Games Hub in Mandaluyong City on Monday, PCSO general manager Royina Garma said they also provided PHP2.85 billion for Duterte administration’s concerted efforts to help families affected by the pandemic.

“Alam niyo naman ang PCSO ay income self-generating at hindi kami kumukuhaa ng funds sa national budget. Fortunately, we were able to re-open our doors in July 2020. PCSO was allowed to resume its games in general community quarantine (GCQ) and modified GCQ, our sales resumed gradually increased.

Although we had to slowly reinstating our games as the threat of Covid-19 was still

very much present,” Garma said.

She said the PHP18.63 billion total general sales last year came from Lotto with PHP6.8 billion; Digit games with PHP5.1 billion; Small Town Lottery (STL) with PHP5.8 billion; Keno with PHP407 million; and instant sweepstakes with PHP522 million sales.

To boost its sales, the PCSO, Garma said, is considering the introduction of new games as well as online, mobile or text betting “in a year or two from now.”

“Yes we are now considering it,” she said. “Now we recraft the terms of reference ng new lotto equipment. Papunta dyan ang direction (That’s our direction).”

Garma, however, said they still have to wait for the legal opinion of the Office of the Government Corporate Counsel (OGCC) to make sure minors will not be able to participate in the PCSO games. (PNA)

CebPac sets new baggage policy, fine up to P1,300

C

ebu Pacific (CEB) on Monday issued a new baggage policy, and has set a fine of up to PHP1,300 for oversized check-in luggage.

In an advisory, the carrier said that effective February 1, 2021, check-in bags must not exceed 39 inches on any side. This way, luggage will fit easier in the conveyor belt, allowing for smoother and faster operations.

Bags exceeding 39 inches on any side will be considered as an oversized bag and will be fined PHP800 for domestic flights, and PHP1,300 for international flights, CEB said.

"This additional fee is brought about by the manu-

al process required to transport the bag to the baggage loading area," it said.

CEB also allows one hand-carry bag weighing a maximum of seven kilograms. As of posting, CEB's website says no other hand-carry bags are allowed, even for laptops, food, among others.

One additional bag that should fit under the seat is allowed for persons with disabilities and parents with infants.

Meanwhile, CEB earlier put up self-bag tag kiosks at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 3 to minimize physical contacts, boost contactless transactions, and lessen queue time for passengers. (PNA)

resident Rodrigo Duterte on Monday said the Philippines is losing P2 billion each day due to restrictions imposed to curb the spread of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

Despite the country lagging behind its neighbors in terms of internet speed and reliability, the Philippines also came in first in daily time spent using the internet, logging in an average of 10 hours and 56 minutes. This was also higher than last year’s average of 9 hours and 45 minutes, In contrast, the global average for internet usage was 6 hours and 54 minutes, the companies said.

E-commerce adoption also grew in the country to 80.2 percent from 76 percent in the previous year’s study.

“This is the second consecutive year that the country’s figure was above the global average,” We Are Social, and Hootsuite said, noting that the global average was 76.8 percent, and 74 percent in their previous release.

The two firms noted that rise in social media, internet, and e-commerce usage comes after Ookla Speedtest Global Index indicated a 14-notch jump in the Philippines’ ranking in mobile Internet connection speed.

The country’s average mobile Internet speed in December 2020 registered at 22.50 megabits per second compared to 18.49 Mbps in November 2020.

EDITORIAL Paper-based digitalization The Safe Davao QR is officially mandatory effective today, February 3, 2021. Simply put, without a QR Code, one cannot go around.

The numbers of those without a QR Code are aplenty. Even after correcting some flaws, access to the Safe Davao QR is still dependent on so many factors like availability of documents proving one’s identity and poor internet connectivity. And let’s not even mention those who do not have mobile phones or access to internet.

Why do we need so many requisite paper documents to activate a digital system?

In Western Australia, a security guard working in a quarantine hotel got infected with the UK-strain Covid-19. Within minutes after he was tested positive and found to have been in some 20 places based on the QR Code tracking system, the government placed the entire Perth on a five-day lockdown.

All of a sudden, Perth turned from calm to crazy and then calm again for the next five days as people stayed homes in fear of getting the virus or getting arrested, or both. Discipline and strict observance of protocols have served the Western Australia region among the best Covid-19 management in the world. Until Sunday, it went 10 months without any community transmission.

Perth instituted a digital contact tracing system called SafeWA which is app-based. In essence, it is the opposite of Davao City’s Safe Davao QR as it puts the responsibility of registering a QR Code on the establishments, not on patrons (as individuals visiting venues or establishments are referred to) or individuals.

People register on the system by downloading an app which takes only a little over a minute to do and they’re good to go. The establishments post their QR Code poster at the entrance and all that people do is scan their phones on the code.

Unlike the Safe Davao QR, people do not have to go through so many documents proving their identity to register which, coupled with a very poor internet connectivity, is the very reason why a good number of the community would never have the code. The system in Australia also helps those without a code.

HONORARY AWARD FOR JANE FONDA This month, during the Golden Globe awards on February 28, veteran and multi-awarded American actress Jane Fonda will receive the Cecil B. deMille award (named after the founding father of the American cinema), as reported by Reuters.

“Her undeniable talent has gained her the highest level of recognition, and while her professional life has taken many turns, her unwavering commitment to evoking change has remained,” said Ali Sar, president of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, the organizer of the awards ceremony.

This award will be added to the roster of Golden Globe trophies – seven of them! -- she has already received through the years. She was already bestowed with the AFI Life Achievement Award in 2014. “It’s better to be interested than interesting,” she said when she received the award given by the American Film Institute.

Fonda has received seven nominations from the Academy, winning two for performances in Klute (1971) and Coming Home

(1978). She was nominated for her leading roles in 1969’s They Shoot Horses, Don’t They, 1977’s Julia, 1979’s The China Syndrome, and 1986’s The Morning After.

Her first and only nomination for a supporting role was for On Golden Pond (1981), where she co-starred with her father and Katharine Hepburn (both won Oscars for their performances).

Fred Zinnemann, her Julia film director, thought she would win an Oscar for her tour de performance in the movie. “Jane Fonda did an extraordinary job with her part,” he pointed out. “She is a splendid actress with a strong analytical mind which sometimes gets in her way, and with an incredible technique and control of emotion; she can cry at will, on cue, mere drops or buckets, as the scene demands.

I thought Jane well-deserved the Oscar she should have got.”

The daughter of Canadian-born socialite Frances Ford Brokaw and Hollywood actor Henry Fonda, she was named for the third wife of Henry VIII, Jane Seymour. Her birth reportedly caused some interruptions during her father’s filming of Jezebel (1938)

with Bette Davis.

The late Peter Fonda is her brother. As such, she is the aunt of Bridget Fonda and Justin Fonda. She has a maternal half-sister, Pan Corrias and an adoptive sister, Amy Fishman (nee Amy Fonda).

She is the stepdaughter of Shirlee Fonda.

Fonda started her acting career on stage. Her acting debut, There Was a Little Girl, on Broadway, earned her a nomination for the Tony Award for Best Featured Actress in a Play.

Then, she went on to stay in some films but it wasn’t until she appeared in Sunday in New York that earned her an accolade from Newsday: “The loveliest and most gifted of all our new young actresses.”

But her breakthrough came when she co-starred with Lee Marvin in Cat Ballou (1965). The film, included in one of the year’s top movies, earned Marvin the coveted Best Actor Oscar.

Fonda is one of the very few stars to have appeared in some of the finest actors in Hollywood. To name a few: Marlon Brando, Jason Robards, Yves Montand, Jack Lem-

mon, Michael Douglas, Jeff Bridges, and Robert De Niro.

She appeared with Robert Redford in several films, including The Chase (1965), Barefoot in the Park (1967), and The Electric Horseman (1979). She declined Redford’s offer to co-star with him in Havana (1990).

She rejected roles that became famous when played by other actresses: Doctor Zhivago (1965), Bonnie and Clyde (1967), Rosemary’s Baby (1968), The Thomas Crown Affair (1968), Cinderella Liberty (1973), The Exorcist (1973), One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest (1973), Network (1976), An Unmarried Woman (1978), Norma Rae (1979), Husbands and Wives (1992), and Manchurian Candidate (2004).

In 1964, Fonda became the first major American actress to appear nude in a foreign film, La ronde. At 51, she went topless for a love scene with 18-years-younger Jimmy Smits in Old Gringo (1989) and donned a sleeveless nightgown at 80 in Book Club (2018) with not a bingo wing in sight.

Fonda has been married three times. The first time was to

French film director Roger Vadim (married in 1965 and divorced in 1973), who directed her in Barbarella (1968). They had a daughter named Vanessa.

Her second husband was politician Tom Hayden, whom she married in 1973 and divorced in 1990. The couple had a son named Troy and an adoptive daughter, Mary Luana Williams (Lulu).

Her third husband was billionaire media mogul Ted Turner (of CNN distinction); they got hitched on her birthday in 1991 but ended their marriage in 2001.

In the 1980s, Fonda was known as a fitness guru. In 1982, she released her first exercise video, Jane Fonda’s Workout, which became the highest-selling VHS of all time. It would be the first of 22 such videos over the next 13 years, which would collectively sell over 17 million copies.

In 2005, her autobiography, My Life, So Far, came out. “Before I started writing my memoir, I knew what I was writing was a gender journey. It was a journey defined by my gender. And so, it was important for me to explain why that was true,” she told Chicago Tribune of the book.

STO. NINO AND THE RELIGIOSITY OF FILIPINO SEAFARERS Viva Sto. Nino!

The Sto. Niño is venerated all over the country with annual festivals celebrated every last two weekends of January through special masses, dances and processions attracting millions of devotees and tourists.

The main religious festivals in honor of the child Jesus are Ati-Atihan of Kalibo, Aklan, Sinulog of Cebu, Dinagyang of Iloilo and Dinagsa of Cadiz City.

Even if the statue is a diminutive figure, Jesus is depicted as a small king with royal regalia: crown, red cloak of intricate embroidery, with its left hand holding a cross-bearing orb (a symbol of Christian authority), while its other hand is in a priestly blessing gesture.

However, Filipinos downsized the merrymaking atmosphere this year due to COVID19.

In the street dancing event of Ati-Atihan called Sadsad, the Sto. Ninos are normally dressed based on the group’s interest.

I usually see some wearing a seafarer’s uniform, presumably owned by a family whose member is in the maritime profession.

This is a reflection of the practice of most Filipino seafarers of bringing with them on board the vessel their religious beliefs, ideas and tradition.

They normally maintain a renewed faith practice and religiosity each time they go home.

The Philippines is considered as one of the major supplier of maritime labor globally as it is estimated that there is one Filipino seafarer for every five crew members on board a vessel at any time.

The sea-based sector’s remittance comprise at least 22 percent of the total dollar remittances of Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs).

The estimated 519,031 deployed Filipino seafarers in 2019 per POEA data remitted $6.539 billion or around P326.95 billion.

Religion offers for the ordinary Filipino seafarers strength, hope and peace in relation with their daily work and social relationships on board the vessel.

A study by the Seafarers International Research Center (SIRC) revealed how religious practice may serve to mitigate negative aspects of work such as loneliness,

isolation, and institutional living, as well as fear of the dangers that can be encountered at sea.

Religion assists seafarers in coping with dangerous and emotionally challenging workplaces.

Despite its glorification due to economic returns, a job of a seafarer is not exactly a walk in the park.

The maritime profession has always been identified as a highrisk workplace replete with health and safety hazards in relation to the risks of accidents, illnesses and mortality.

The seafarer is often mentally, physically and emotionally stressed, aside from being constantly exposed to a variable environment while working on board vessels that cross ocean boundaries.

Some seafarers described faith as helpful in overcoming difficult emotional shipboard conditions and in making life at sea bearable in many ways.

SIRC noted that seafarers find strength in their God as they commonly experience fear for his life during emergencies at sea often associated with storms, mechanical failure, collisions and ground-

ings.

SIRC stressed that God was being drawn upon by seafarers to increase their resilience in dealing with stressful and dangerous workplace situations.

Seafarers are more likely to draw on their belief in a God to help them at times when they are powerless to help themselves, SIRC said.

It was relatively common for seafarers to engage in faith-based routines which they hoped would offer them some protection from ill-fate.

During the interviews of the Ten Outstanding Maritime Students of the Philippines (TOMSP), I asked some of them what personal item will they bring with them if the boat is in danger of sinking and most of them answered the rosary.

Their answer is a reflection of what SIRC noted as the practice of carrying something with totemic significance or religious artefact that will comfort them as protection like rosary, bible as well as other religious pamphlets and written materials.

They find great solace.in their belief in God.

Archbishop of Manila Luis Antonio Tagle said in one of the National Seafarers’ Day celebration that Filipino seafarers are ‘saint potentials’ .

Referring to Saint Lorenzo Ruiz and San Pedro Calungsod, Tagle noted that they were seafarers and missionaries at the same time before they became saints who sailed to other countries and died for a mission: “to teach the Good News.”

Tagle underscored that the pain brought by separation is a sign of the seafarer’s love, strength, and faith for the good of his family and the country.

“Even if you feel pain when you leave your family and your country, that suffering is not a reason for you to be ‘paralyzed,’ but inspire you to strive for more,” said Tagle, adding that their hardships will not weaken them but make them even stronger.

SECTION 4. IMPOSITION OF FEES - There shall be collected the following fees for the City-owned and operated crematorium: 1. Cremation Service Fee Adult - P20,000.00 Youth (12-18 years old) - P15,000.00 Children (below 12 years old) - P10,000.00 Cremation of Bones/Remains - P10,000.00 Infant - P7,500.00 2. Other Fees

SECTION 7. SEPARABILITY CLAUSE - If, for any reason, any section or provision of this Ordinance shall be held to be unconstitutional or invalid by competent authority, such judgment or action shall not affect or impair the other sections or provisions hereof.

A verified petition dated August 25, 2020 has been filed by petitioners JAPHAR B. UY and JAINAH M. BINGHAY, assisted by counsel ATTY. GENEVIEVE D. BELEN, praying that after due notice and hearing, this petition be granted and an Order be issued to the Office of the Local Civil Registrar of Davao City to cause the cancellation of the Certificate of Live Birth of JAPHAR BINGHAY UY in the Office of the Local Civil Registrar of Davao City under Registry No. 98-24,829. It is likewise prayed for that a copy of the Decision or Judgment of this Honorable Court be furnished to the Local Civil Registrar of Davao City who shall forthwith enter the same in the civil register, pursuant to Section 6, Rule 108 of the Revised Rules of Court, Further, it is respectfully prayed that a copy of the Decision of Judgment be furnished to the National Statistics Office (NSO) now Philippines Statistics Office (PSA), Solicarel Building, R. Magsaysay Boulevard, Sta. Mesa, Metro Manila.

Petitioner further prays for such reliefs and remedies as may be just and equitable under the circumstances.

Finding the petition to be sufficient in form and substance, this Court hereby set the same for hearing on APRIL 15, 2021 at 2:00 o’clock in the afternoon. Let this Order be published at the expense of the petitioner in a newspaper of general circulation in the City of Davao, once a week for three (3) consecutive weeks.

Stamp takes on Russian grappling specialist Alyona Rassohyna in the main event of ONE: UNBREAKABLE III, a previously recorded event from the Singapore Indoor Stadium in Singapore scheduled for global broadcast this Friday, 5 February.

Zamboanga is excited to watch Stamp perform and will be rooting for her friend.

“I honestly don't know her opponent. There are a lot of good fighters in our division that will be a good matchup for her. I think she's ready for a Top 10 opponent. That being

said, I have full confidence in her abilities. Stamp is a great fighter,” said Zamboanga.

Zamboanga and Stamp are former teammates at the Fairtex Training Center in Pattaya, Thailand.

After having trained together extensively, the two formed a very tight bond. They would often post videos on social media about their life and friendship outside of training.

Today, Zamboanga has since moved out of Fairtex and is now based out of Bangkok’s Marrok Force gym with older brother Drex Zamboanga and their friend Fritz Biagtan.

Despite the distance, Zamboanga says her friendship with Stamp has not been compromised.

Non-pro leagues still not allowed to play games

on-professional sports leagues looking to resume amid the coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic are not et allowed to do so.

The two government agencies overseeing Philippine sports reiterated anew the restrictions for non-professional sporting events such as tournaments, competitive events, and athletic meets.

The reminder came after a new grassroots basketball league named the Batang Pilipino Basketball League (BPBL) was formed last week.

"In line with the PSCGAB-DOH (Philippine Sports Commission-Games and Amusements BoardDOH Department of Health) JAO (joint administrative order) No. 20200001 and in accordance with the Omnibus Guidelines on the Implementation of the Community

"Considering that an effective vaccine for Covid-19 has not yet been made available, it follows that the implementation of this Joint Administrative Order shall remain in effect, until and unless amended or revoked.

Thus, PSC, GAB, and DOH shall continue to adhere to the provisions of this JAO to help the government's effort to curb the possible transmission of multiple Covid-19 variants, without compromising the welfare of our amateur and professional athletes and GAB-regulated
