ith the current suspension of the Real-Time Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT-PCR) testing for arriving passengers at the Davao International Airport (DIA) that started on January 13, 2021, there could be Covid-19 positive passengers who may slip in unnoticed into Davao City.

As the testing was set aside for now, Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio emphasized the importance of strict implementation of Executive Order No. 62 which classified Davao City as a restricted local government unit (LGU).

"Because wala tay screening sa musulod via air travel and air travel is the fastest route na makapa-transport og mga COVID-19 confirmed

cases and because walay mandatory testing ang airplane passengers, there will always be someone na positive makasulod. So this is where important ang implementation sa E.O. 63," said Mayor Sara in a live broadcast interview on Friday.

The mayor said the city is redirecting its resources to address the local transmission since this is the highest in the list of

cases.

"Duna ta'y suspension sa atong testing upon arrival sa airport because we are redirecting our resources didto sa local transmission sa syudad sa Davao," she said.

The mayor added that personnel of the city government of Davao remain deployed at the DIA to enforce E.O. 63.

While testing is suspended, arriving passengers with negative RT-PCR tests taken within 24 to 72 hours before their scheduled flights to the city are prioritized in exiting the DIA after checking their health declaration forms (HDFs).

Mayor Sara also said that there are flight passengers inside the DIA holding facility while waiting to be fetched by their LGUs. She said that non-Davao

City residents arriving through the DIA will have to go straight to their LGU of destination.

The city established the free RT-PCR testing at DIA for arriving passengers who have no RT-PCR negative results to show upon their exit. A negative RT-PCR test result is a requirement for a passenger to exit DIA. Non-Davao City flight passengers may still exit the airport even without the RTPCR negative test as long as their LGUs will fetch them and they can present other needed documents. She, thus, urged neighboring local government units (LGUs) to pick up their locally stranded individuals (LSIs) at the DIA. For Davao City residents without negative RT-PCR test results to show, their HDFs and other necessary documents will be checked.

P5M aid to parents of DavNor child laborers

T

he Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Region XI has given 5.5 million pesos worth of livelihood assistance to parents of child laborers all over Davao del Norte in 2020.

During Kapihan sa DavNor, DOLE XI Community Facilitator Dave Andrei Villegas revealed that 350 parents of child laborers in the entire province were the recipients of the livelihood assistance.

Such livelihood assistance was extended through DOLE’s “starter kit” program rolled in areas with profiled child labor cases.

Villegas said this livelihood program is one of DOLE’s interventions to eradicate child labor.

In addition to the livelihood assistance, DOLE also had ‘Project Angel Three’ through which its private sector, individual and establishment partners directly gave assistance and shared (their) blessings to profiled child laborers and their parents last Christmas season.

In Davao del Norte, the agriculture industry holds the most number of child labor cases involving children working in hazardous conditions in farms while others were found peeling bananas to earn, Villegas said.

Villegas added that most of the child labor cases in the province are found in Tagum City, as it is the capital of the province; however, he clarified that these cases

were not all Davao del Norte residents as there were children from other provinces who came to work in Tagum.

Meanwhile, Villegas clarified the distinction between 'child labor' and 'working child', saying child labor exposes the children to hazardous conditions.

"The most basic way to consider a child under 'child labor’ is that the kid is below 18 and is working under hazardous conditions; whether dangerous environment or exposure to the sun or rain," Villegas explained in vernacular.

On the other hand, a working child is one that is being trained and supervised by their parents or guardians under safe and appropriate conditions such as washing dishes, watching over the sari-sari store, or helping in business. (Jan Vincent Leuterio/PIA-XI/ jmda)

‘Exposed’ individuals to get notifications

T

he Safe Davao QR will start notifying Dabawenyos who were at the same place and time with a Covid-19 positive individual.

A public advisory was issued last Friday by the Safe Davao QR Facebook page on the new mechanism of sending text messages to people exposed to a COVID-19 case.

The public is urged not to panic and read and follow the instructions indicated in the text message.

Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio clarified on Friday, the text message is not the same text message sent to those in close contacts with a positive case. These notifications are push notifications coming from the DQR system.

"Push notifications in DQR is not the same text message that we give to close contacts. This is a text message that we give to all

who were in the same area with a COVID-19 confirmed case," she said.

Mayor Sara said the text message sent to the registered numbers of the DQR holder will give them instructions on what to do.

She added that this is part of the city's response for the people to be aware that they were in the same area or office or establishment and for them to be aware what to do.

"This is part of atoang response nga kinahanglan mahibalo ang tao nga they were in the same area or office or establishment. So that ang tao mismo kabalo unsa iyang buhaton and mag hinay-hinay siya sa iyahang lihok," the mayor said.

fizer and AstraZeneca’s COVID-19 vaccine led the Department of Science and Technology’s (DOST) vaccine ranking released on Friday, based on safety, potential efficacy, stability and the company’s track record.

Novavax and Sinovac ranked third and fourth, respectively, according to DOST’s vaccine panel.

Dr. Jaime Montoya, executive director of the Philippine Council for Health Research and Development, said the ranking was based on a number of criteria, which include: Track record of the company; Technology platform (inactivated, MRNA, etc) as to reliability and stability related to storage, etc; Safety based on Phases

1 and 2, and Phase 3 clinical trials, if available; Immunogenicity, or the ability to provoke an immune response, as to potential efficacy based on Phase 1 and 2 trials; Potential efficacy and safety based on published data; and Vaccine implementation, which covers logistics.

Pfizer’s vaccine is the only one included in the World Health Organization’s emergency list. Among other vaccine frontrunners, it also has EUAs in the most number of countries.

An EUA allows Pfizer’s vaccine to be imported, distributed and administered in the Philippines through a national immunization program.

fter ending 2020 with a series of unit turnovers of its premier project Aeon Towers, Aeon Luxe Properties Inc. is on an upbeat mood to begin 2021.

espite the rough ride for most part of last year with the onset of the coronavirus pandemic hitting hard the real estate industry, Aeon Luxe rebounded towards the end of the year as it successfully handed over units to residential owners of Aeon Towers. Likewise, it signed up a host of lease contracts with new locators.

"We are looking at an improved situation this year and we can only be excited to see more unit owners receive their keys to their new homes," said Aeon Luxe Properties president and CEO Ian Y. Cruz.

Last December, Aeon turned over several units in ceremonies held at the Club Aeon lounge of Aeon Towers where condo owners officially received their turnover kit.

After receiving their keys, unit owners marvelled over the breathtaking views of the city skyline and Samal Island from their new abode.

Residents were briefed about the house rules and construction guidelines by the Property Manager for a more in-depth discussion and well-coordinated movein process.

Aeon Towers said most of the condo owners will be moving in to their units this year.

The turnover ceremonies were spearheaded by the Aeon Luxe executives— Vice President for Sales and

Marketing Almira Mariano, Vice President for Operations Engr. Daniel Manalo, Sales Admin Manager Luis Dollesin and Project Development Manager Jester Hospital.

Last year also marked several leasing contracts to the property.

The popular comfort food restaurant signed up as a new locator in the iconic Aeon Towers building located at JP Laurel Avenue in Davao City's bustling business district. The contract signing took place on September 22, 2020 at the FTC Corporate Office.

Also signing up a leasing agreement was Kimchee Tea, a popular milk tea shop in Davao City, at the second floor of Aeon Towers’ commercial space also on September 22, 2020. Present during the ceremony were Kimchee Tea’s millennial owner Kamille Jun C. Alquizar while FTC-GOCC was represented by Cruz.

Kimchee Tea started in 2018 with different flavors of tea-based drinks at 149 Batulao Road, Central Park, Bangkal, Davao City before deciding to expand to Aeon Towers.

Gov’t collects P171.72-billion DA to roll out P400-million for hog revenue from fuel markings repopulation in ASF-cleared areas

T

he government has collected a total of PHP171.72 billion in duties and taxes under the Fuel Marking Program.

In a statement released on Friday, the Bureau of Customs (BOC) reported that it has collected a total of PHP147.78 billion while the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) has collected PHP23.94 billion under the program.

The collections came from the marked 17.55 billion liters of fuel from Sept.

4, 2019 to Dec. 31, 2020.

The markings were conducted by the BOC and BIR,

through their partners SGS Philippines and SICPA-SA. The customs bureau also reported that for 2020, some 15.69 billion liters of fuel were marked, equivalent to PHP109.36 billion and PHP21.81 billion worth of duties and taxes collected by the BOC and BIR, respectively.

It added that a significant increase in volume declarations in gasoline, diesel, and kerosene were observed through the implementation of the program.

In 2017 and 2018, total volume declarations were 7.75 billion liters and 6.31

billion liters, respectively, equivalent to duties and taxes worth PHP26.88 billion and PHP39.79 billion, respectively.

In 2019, the total volume declaration was at 11.16 billion liters, or 77 percent higher than the previous year. This was equivalent to PHP111.18 billion, marking an increase of 179 percent in duties and taxes collected for the government.

In a virtual briefing on Thursday, Reildrin Morales, executive director of the DA's National Meat Inspection Service, said under the program dubbed as the Integrated National Swine Production Initiatives for Recovery and Expansion (INSPIRE), they would distribute mother pigs as well as feeds to areas that are now cleared of the ASF.

Davao as 10th richest city

Davao City emerged as the 10th richest city in the Philippines in 2019 and for Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio, that was a big surprise.

Mayor Sara did not expect the outcome. She admitted that was not even the goal for 2019.

Davao City amassed P19.784 billion in total assets in 2019 to make it to the 10th spot among the richest cities in the country in 2019, according to the Commission on Audit’s (COA) Annual Financial Report (AFR) for Local Government. The COA report listed Makati City as the wealthiest city in the Philippines, with P233.7 billion in assets, followed by Quezon City (P96.4 billion), Manila (P64.8 billion), Pasig (P45.6 billion), Cebu City (P34.7 billion), Mandaue City (P32.1 billion), Taguig City (P29 billion), Caloocan (P20.5 billion), and Pasay (P19.7 billion).

The ranking is based on total income from local taxes, service income, business income, economic enterprise, other income, and Internal Revenue Allotment.

have made it to the list.

Davao City’s emergence as a top income earner arose from its aggressive tax collection coupled with the growth of local business. A number of businesses expanded operations to Davao City as it began to position itself as the most attractive market option outside of the metropolis.

Based on records by the City Treasurer’s Office, Davao City earned a total income of P10.34 billion from local taxes, service income, business income, economic enterprise, other income, and Internal Revenue Allotment. The figures are quite encouraging so far as it has exceeded the P9.6-billion income the city earned in 2019.

The good news was further bolstered by the recent assessment made by leading accounting firm SGV last year that the city’s economy looks set to pick up in 2022. This came with the recent announcement that the city government has fully achieved its revenue target for 2020.

Things are still looking up for Davao City even amid the pandemic.

For the purposes of this Ordinance, the following terms shall mean: (a) “Information” – shall mean any records, documents, papers, reports, letters, contracts, minutes and transcripts of official meetings, maps, books, photographs, data, research materials, films, sound and video recording, magnetic or other tapes, electronic data, computer stored data, any other like or similar data or materials recorded, stored or archived in whatever format, whether offline or online, which are made, received, or kept in or under the control and custody of any government office under the Provincial Government of Davao Oriental pursuant to law, ordinance, executive order, and rules and regulations or in connection with the performance or transaction of official business by any government office under the Provincial Government of Davao Oriental; (b) “Official record” – shall refer to information produced or received by a public officer or employee, or by a government office in an official capacity or pursuant to a public function or duty; (c) “Public record” – shall include information required by laws, executive orders, rules, or regulations to be entered, kept and made publicly available by a government office; (d) “SALN” – refers to the Statement of Assets, Liabilities and Net Worth.

SECTION 3. COVERAGE. This order shall cover all government offices under the Provincial Government of Davao Oriental.

SECTION 4. ACCESS TO INFORMATION. Every Filipino resident of the Province of Davao Oriental shall have access to information, official records, and public records and to documents and papers pertaining to official acts, transactions or decisions, as well as to government research data used as basis for policy development, in the custody of the Provincial Government of Davao Oriental or any of its offices.

SECTION 5. EXCEPTIONS. The request for access to information of records or documents as provided under Section 4 of this Ordinance shall be denied when the information falls under any of the following: 1) When the information is covered by the communication privilege of the Chief Executive; 2) When the privileged information relates to internal relations and security of the Province as determined by the PNP and other military agencies; 3) Information concerning law enforcement and protection of public and private personal safety; 4) Information deemed confidential for the protection of individual’s privacy, such as minors, victims of crimes, or the accused and privileged communications in legal proceedings as determined by law or by the Rules of Court; 5) Prejudicial premature disclosure (of information/documents) 6) Records of proceedings or information from proceedings which, pursuant to law, or relevant rules and regulations are treated as confidential or privileged. The Minutes of Meetings of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan, considering that it is for the convenience, reference and consumption of the SP Members is hereby clothed with a privileged character; and 7) Such other information as may be declared privileged/confidential by local laws, rules and regulations.

SECTION 6. AVAILABILITY OF SALN. Subject to the provisions contained in Sections 4 and 5 of this ordinance, all public officials of the Provincial Government of Davao Oriental are reminded of their obligation to file and make available for scrutiny, their Statements of Assets, Liabilities and Net Worth (SALN) in accordance with the existing laws, rules and regulations, and the spirit and letter of this ordinance.

SECTION 7. APPLICATION AND INTERPRETATION. There shall be a legal presumption in favor of access to information, public records and official records. No request for information shall be denied unless it clearly falls under any of the exceptions in the inventory of Freedom of Information (FOI) exceptions.

The determination of the applicability of any of the exceptions to the request shall be the responsibility of the Head of the Office, which is in custody or control of the information, public record or official record, or the responsible provincial or field officer duly designated by him in writing.

In making such determination, the Head of the Office or his designated officer shall exercise reasonable diligence to ensure that no exception shall be used or availed of to deny any request for information or access to public records, or official records if the denial is intended primarily and purposely to cover up a crime, wrongdoing, graft or corruption.

SECTION 8. PROTECTION OF PRIVACY. While providing access to information, public records, and official records, responsible officials shall afford full protection to the right to privacy of the individual, pursuant to the Data Privacy Act of 2012 (Republic Act No. 10173), as follows:

(a) Each government office shall ensure that personal information in its custody or under its control is disclosed or released only if it is material or relevant to the subject matter of the request and its disclosure is permissible under this ordinance or existing law, rules or regulations; (b) Each government office must protect personal information in its custody or control by making reasonable security arrangements against leaks or premature disclosure of personal information, which unduly exposes the individual, whose personal information is requested, to vilification, harassment or any other wrongful acts; (c) Any employee, official or director of a government office who has access, authorized or unauthorized, to personal information in the custody of the office, must not disclose that information except when authorized under this ordinance or pursuant to existing laws, rules or regulation.

SECTION 9. PROCEDURE. The following procedure shall govern the filing and processing of request for access to information: (a) Any person who requests access to information shall submit a written request to Provincial Administrator’s Office or the government office concerned. The request shall state the name and contact information of the requesting party, provide valid proof of his identification or authorization, reasonably describe the information requested, and the reason for, or purpose of, the request for information: Provided, that no request shall be denied or refused acceptance unless the reason for the request is contrary to law, existing rules and regulations, or it is one of the exceptions; (b) The public official receiving the request shall be designated as the Freedom of Information (FOI). Receiving Officer and shall provide reasonable assistance, free of charge, to enable all requesting parties and particularly those with special needs to comply with the request requirements under this Section; (c) The request shall be stamped by the Provincial Administrator’s Office (PAdO) or the concerned government office, indicating the date and time of receipt and the name, rank, title and position of the FOI receiving officer with the corresponding signature, and a copy thereof furnished to the requesting party. Each government office shall establish a system to trace the status of all requests for information received by it; (d) The Provincial Administrator’s Office or the concerned government office shall respond to a request fully compliant with requirements of sub-section (a) hereof as soon as practicable but not exceeding fifteen (15) working days from the receipt thereof; (e) The period to respond may be extended whenever the information requested requires extensive search of the government office’s records facilities, examination of voluminous records, the occurrence of fortuitous cases or other analogous cases. The Provincial Administrator’s Office or the concerned government office shall notify the person making the request of the extension, setting forth the reasons for such extension. In no case shall the extension go beyond twenty (20) working days unless exceptional circumstances warrant a longer period; (f) Once a decision is made to grant the request, the person making the request shall be notified of such decision and directed to pay any applicable fees.

SECTION 10. FEES. (a) Concerned agency/s shall not charge any fee for accepting requests for access to information, except those fees imposed under Section 4A.01, Article A, Chapter IV of the Provincial Ordinance No. 15-25-08-2018, otherwise known as the “Revised Revenue Code of the Province of Davao Oriental”; (b) The fee shall be paid to the Provincial Treasurer at the time of the request, whether written or verbal. The Official Receipt number, the amount of the total fees, and the date of payment shall be indicated at the bottom of the certificate; (c) The Provincial Administrator’s Office or the concerned government office may exempt any requesting party from payment of fees, upon request stating the valid reason why such party should not pay the fee; SECTION 11. NOTICE OF DENIAL. If the Provincial Administrator’s Office or the concerned government office decides to deny the request, in whole or in part, it shall as soon as practicable, in any case within fifteen (15) working days from the receipt of the request, or within twenty (20) working days in case of extension, whichever is applicable, notify the requesting party the denial in writing. The notice shall clearly set forth the ground or grounds for denial and the circumstances on which the denial is based. Failure to notify the requesting party of the action taken on the request within the period herein stipulated shall be deemed a denial of the request for access to information.

SECTION 12. REMEDIES IN CASES OF DENIAL OF REQUEST FOR ACCESS TO INFORMATION. (a) Denial of any request for access to information may be appealed to the Office of the Governor, following the procedure mentioned in Section 9 of this ordinance: Provided, that the written appeal must be filed by the same person making the request within fifteen (15) calendar days from the notice of denial or from the lapse of the relevant period to respond to the request; (b) The appeal shall be decided by the Office of the Governor within thirty (30) working days from the filing of said written appeal. Failure of the Office of the Governor to decide within the aforestated period shall be deemed a denial of the appeal; (c) Upon exhaustion of administrative appeal remedies, the requesting part may file the appropriate case in the proper courts in accordance with the Rules of Court.

SECTION 13. KEEPING OF RECORDS. Subject to existing laws, rules, and regulations, government offices shall create and/or maintain accurate and reasonably complete records of important information in appropriate formats, and implement a records management system that facilitates easy identification, retrieval and communication of information to the public.

SECTION 14. PENALTIES. Failure of any government officer to comply with the provisions of this ordinance shall be a ground for the following penalties:

1st Offense – Reprimand;

2nd Offense – Suspension of one (1) to thirty (30) days; and

3rd Offense – Dismissal from the service.

SECTION 15. FOI OFFICE. The Provincial Administrator’s Office is designated to be the FOI Office tasked to oversee the implementation of this ordinance. The PAdO is further directed to formulate the implementing rules and regulations (IRR), which shall include, among others, the following provisions: (a) The name, location, and contact information of FOI receiving officers; (b) The procedure for the filing and processing of the request; (c) The standard forms for the submission of requests; (d) The process for the disposition of requests; (e) The procedure for the administrative appeal of any denial; SECTION 16. SEPARABILITY CLAUSE. If any section or part of this ordinance is held unconstitutional or invalid, the other sections or provisions not otherwise affected shall remain in full force or effect.

SECTION 17. REPEALING CLAUSE. All other ordinances, orders, issuances, rules and regulations, which are inconsistent with the provisions of this Ordinance, are hereby repealed, amended or modified accordingly.

SECTION 18. EFFECTIVITY. This ordinance shall take effect fifteen (15) days after publication.

s the world is urged into isolation due to a global health crisis, technology plays a key role in education with the rise of digital learning.

Various platforms for microcredentialing, upskilling, and more, have become more

accessible to everyone. Among many of those who took advantage of the available online training programs and certifications is Ms. Edwina Astrid Cuezon from Davao City, who is a Certified Professional Social Marketer and a school

Cuezon has received 1,045 online course certifications, certificates with professional development units, verified digital badges, and continuing professional education certificates, excluding certificates of attendance and certificates of participation.

Among these certificates are from LinkedIn Learning, Coursera, Google, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Hootsuite, Amazon, Udemy, and other renowned international schools.

“I have received these certificates when the lockdown and community quarantine started around March 2020,” Cuezon stated in an interview.

“Even before, I used to participate in training programs both online and face-to-face, because of my profession and my nature of work.”

As a social marketer, part of her job is to handle and strategize digital campaigns by monitoring the latest trends.

From an institution that prides itself in technological education excellence, Cuezon strives to pursue continuous learning for professional

development and personal growth.

“Social media and the digital world keeps changing and evolving rapidly,” Cuezon shared. “That’s why if the digital campaigns of a particular business are assigned to you, you really have to update yourself or somebody else will lead digitally.”

Although during the community quarantine, travel and physical restrictions seemed to limit opportunities at first, her passion for learning and excellence drove her for continuous upgrades and updates.

On the other hand, she also faces the “Fear of Missing Out” or FOMO phenomenon where millennials are constantly searching for new experiences to share, often because of how the younger generation posts on social media. More than that, however, Cuezon believes that she needs to be a good model for the academic community and impart value to the younger generation.

“If you have the passion to learn and upskill no matter how busy you are with your present roles and responsibilities, you will really make and give time to learn more,” Cuezon shared.

“On my case, I spend my break time and weekends in learning instead of doing unproductive stuff. I

know that whenever I learn something new today, I will become a better person tomorrow.”

Contrary to common misconceptions, these digital certificates and badges are

not just a collection to display, but they also maximize the value of your certification or training program. With the help of technology, there are no travel and accommodation worries to attend international seminars hosted by worldrenowned speakers. In return, the certificates received are internationally recognized.

“This is something that we have to look forward to during the pandemic,” she stated.

“Before, technology seemed to detach us from those closest to us. But now, technology allows us to explore the world easier and faster—as international opportunities for learning becomes reachable.”

Digital certificates received through online courses are also more convenient. Some are sent via email or ready to download after the course is finished, to which each certificate has a unique barcode and a unique credential ID where a thirdparty verifier may verify the certification.

“You don’t need to print your certificates because they are sharable on LinkedIn,” Cuezon stated. “All of my certifications are on my LinkedIn profile, easy to access, and easy to see. Everything is handy and convenient.”

In addition, these certificates are handy and sharable on social media or any professional social network.

These can also be stored in digital drives or cloud storage where it can be accessed anytime and anywhere. Online programs and certifications are accessible even on different devices, and even on smartphones.

She also shared that before, a lot of money would be shelled out to pay for the expenses of international certifications. She mentioned that as she embodies the core values of her present institution, she grabs the opportunity presented to her in order to better herself through continuous learning.

In the new normal, communication is done virtually. It is not a surprise that lifelong learning has also transitioned to the digital landscape where it is faster and more convenient. For Ms. Edwina Astrid Cuezon, valuing personal and professional growth stems from having a passion for learning, as well as sharing and imparting the learnings and experiences for the next generation.

"Luzon is the biggest consuming island of pork meat. 19,937.44 metric tons of our inventory is in Luzon.

We will increase shipments from Visayas and Mindanao," Morales said.

Based on the Dec. 28, 2020 - Jan. 3, 2021 data from the Frozen Pork Inventory report of DA, the total inventory from the Visayas was 5,691 MT and 149.54 MT in Mindanao.

Gordon proposes training more Pinoys in vaccination

ANILA – As the Senate resumed deliberation on the national government’s coronavirus disease (COVID-19) vaccination program on Friday, Senator Richard Gordon proposed to train more Filipinos to administer vaccines as the Philippines looks to start rolling out its immunization plan in February.

“I will file a bill on Monday that during times of emergency or even there is no crisis, dapat mag-train ng (we need to train) vaccinators gaya ng mga dentist (like dentists), veterinarians, medical technologists, at kahit iyong walang medical background (and those even without medical background). We can put to bear millions of our young people who may

want to become doctors someday and can practice with bakuna (vaccination), provided it’s under clinical supervision,” he said.

During the hearing, Gordon questioned the Department of Health’s (DOH) capability to conduct the vaccination program with only 617,239 health care workers to participate in the campaign based on the department’s data.

Of the 617,239, 73,836 are from private health institutions, 64,998 from public health facilities, 29,000 are DOH-employed, 30,629 are hired by the local government units (LGU), 194,269 are contact tracers, 207,320 are barangay health workers, while 17,034 are social workers.

About PHP82.5 billion was allocated by the government for the purchase of Covid-19 vaccines this year, of which, PHP70 billion will be sourced from foreign loans.

he Philippines earned another distinction from international travel website Big 7 Travel after it was named the world's second most "Instagrammable" place for 2021.

Big 7 Travel noted the country's natural wonders and vibrant culture and history in placing it second in the list, which gathered 50 places around the world.

"From the bustling capital of Manila complete with colorful colonial streets to the absolute oasis of Boracay, the gram opportunities here are endless," it said in its article.

The Department of Tourism thanked the international travel website for including the Philippines in the list.

"The Department of Tourism celebrates the inclusion of the Philippines in the Most Instagrammable Places in the World list of the renowned travel website Big 7 Travel for the year 2021," said in a statement.

The Philippines is among the three Asian places in the Top 10 list, along with top choice Tokyo, Japan and sixth-ranked Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

Three hundred ninety-three public school teachers in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) have received P45,000 each after the regional government released their three-month worth of salaries.

3 ex-PSC employees indicted over payroll padding scam

he Department of Justice (DOJ) has formally charged three former Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) employees with multiple counts of theft and forgery for their involvement in a payroll padding scam.

In a 23-page resolution signed by Assistant State Prosecutor Moises Acayan Sr., Deputy State Prosecutor Richard Fadullon, and Prosecutor General Benedicto Malcontento, made public on Friday, several counts of qualified theft, attempted qualified theft, cyber-related forgery, and computer-related fraud were filed against Paul Ignacio, Michaelle Jones Velarde, and Lymuel Seguilla.

Velarde and Seguilla were later dragged to the case.

The padding scheme forced a shake-up within the PSC. “It is a regrettable incident but it compelled us to fast-track upgrades and consider a second-look at existing processes,” said PSC chairman Butch Ramirez about the restructuring.

SBP 11 says no plans yet to resume basketball program

ocal basketball fans are not likely to see any tournaments and league competitions in the next few months.

Samahang Basketball ng Pilipinas (SBP) 11 liaison officer Ronel Leuterio told Edge Davao on Friday that with the enforced restrictions by the city government of Davao, SBP is forced to back down on waiting mode.

It has been 14 months since the last SBPsanctioned tournament.

“Sa SBP, wala naman talaga plans just awaiting yung sa national level kung ano yung mga plano din nila. Of course kahit may plano sila kung yung local govt wouldn’t allow it, hindi naman din maka follow sa mga programs nila,” Leuterio said in an online interview.

by Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio in compliance to the order of the Inter-Agency Task Force.

“We cannot do anything. It’s sad but that’s how it is for now,” said Escandor.

Leuterio revealed that once the situation improves and the restrictions are lifted, the first priority will be a 3x3 program which is more manageable and involves less people.

“If ever meron man na, perhaps we could start with 3x3 until such time na pwede na talaga mag 5x5,” Leuterio said.

In June last year, the SBP adopted its own measures for the return of the sport of basketball

It has been more than a year since the SBP 11 held a tournament in Davao City. The last one was in October 2019 yet. SBP 11 Photo in the country using Fiba’s guidelines as its basis.

However, the situation changed when cases spiked in several areas in the country including Davao.

Basketball was

practically stopped in the Philippines due to COVID-19 with only individual or home workouts allowed but Fiba and SBP’s guidelines could slowly bring back the sport to the country pending

government approval.

In a 19-page manifest, the SBP detailed several measures on how basketball players and teams could resume operations as long as it follows the guidelines

from the Inter–Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Disease.
