Lucky pupils at St. Benedict’s got the opportunity to meet a very famous bear last Friday. As part of Children in Need, Pudsey visited to offer a huge paw-sized high five for their incredible fund-raising. Clinton Rogers from BBC Somerset accompanied Pudsey, interviewing top fund-raiser, Alanna of Year 3 (who raised £70). He also spoke to John and Leonora from Year 6, as well as Mr Ranger, who was very proud of the efforts of the pupils, as well as the incredible generosity of our parents.
The visit was the culmination of an amazing week of running: PE Lead, Mrs Anderson, had set the children a target of 423 miles to run (the distance of the One Show’s Rickshaw Challenge); this meant two miles per pupil! The determined children were more than up to the challenge, running a mind-blowing 471 miles. Overall they managed to raise a staggering £1343. Huge thanks to everyone for their super fundraising – a hugely impressive effort for a really deserving cause.
The St. Benedict’s girls’ football team remain unbeaten this season after two league matches and a futsal tournament. This winning streak has earned them a place in the area futsal finals, taking place on 28th November, where they will face other area winners. Their latest match, last Thursday, saw a 2-0 triumph over league rivals Ashcott. The first goal came from the impressive Tamara Septer in a first half dominated by St. Ben’s. After the break, like a wounded panther, Ashcott came out fighting, but the St. Ben’s defence, in the shape of Chloe Christian, Charlotte Munns, Dorothy Reakesmith and Ania Pizlo stood firmer than the Great Wall of China, and, after surviving a succession of corners and a minor scare when Ashcott hit the post, St. Ben’s broke away, like an excited dog on a dodgy lead, and Septer doubled her tally. St. Ben’s ran out deserved winners, with Hannah Jones once against superb in goal and Tilly Fitton, Amber Redman and Maude Gawen bringing pace and relentless energy to the midfield like a trio of skilful Duracell bunnies.
