Connectivity and rare beauty – Islay Hill embodies them both as the ninth in an ancient string of volcanic peaks stretching across California’s Central Coast. Once part of the 31,000 acres Corral de Piedra land grant, Islay Hill overlooks La Lomita Ranch’s bed and breakfast, wedding and events venue, inviting visitors to connect with its roots. Every space is a rare masterpiece with a charm all its own, a styled tribute to our Spanish founders.
Tesoro Viejo is located at the foot of Little Table Mountain, next to the San Joaquin River, on approximately 1,600 acres of gently rolling hills and vistas. It’s a place where you wake up every day inspired by your surroundings.
The WHY is the miles of trails, the convenience of a vibrant town center, the resort-style energy and elegance of The Ranch House clubhouse, and the neighborly delight of a school kids can walk to, and events the whole community supports.
The WHAT is a range of stunning new homes from premier local builders, complementing all sorts of lifestyles and budgets.
The HOW is a visit. Come see for yourself. Then stay…for all the reasons above.

A Message from the Founders:
When we started Trademark, it was just the two of us handling everything — estimating, building, and managing. We quickly saw that staying small often meant sacrificing quality and service. So, we built a better model: specialized departments led by experts, focused on delivering top-tier results. Today, we’re still hands-on, leading by example and proud of what Trademark has become — not just bigger, but better.

Orloff Jeweler’s Platinum Anniversary
In an industry where trends come and go, Orloff Jewelers has stood the test of time—shining as a symbol of craftsmanship, connection, and continuity for 70 remarkable years. As this issue celebrates legacies that endure and evolve, few stories embody that theme more profoundly than Orloff’s. Founded in 1955 and now guided by a third generation, this family-owned business has become woven into the very fabric of the Central Valley, bearing witness to thousands of engagements, anniversaries, and milestone moments. The Orloffs’ story is a powerful reminder that true legacy is built with care, purpose, and an unwavering commitment to people, to community. In this intimate conversation, the Orloff family reflects on their seven-decade journey—honoring the past, embracing the present, and looking ahead to a future that’s as bright as the diamonds they so expertly curate.
LB Seventy years is an extraordinary legacy. When reflecting on Orloff Jewelers’ journey, what emotions and memories come to the forefront?
OJ Pride and gratitude come to mind first—pride in building a 70-year legacy in an industry where that’s rare, and deep gratitude for our loyal customers. As a third-generation business, we know firsthand that hard work and honesty is everything. We’ve grown alongside our community, celebrating life’s biggest moments together. It’s been a wonderful journey with wonderful people, and we’re honored to carry it forward.
LB Can you take us back to the founding of Orloff Jewelers and what inspired the first generation to start this journey?
OJ Founded in 1955 by Paul Orloff, the business has evolved through generations while staying rooted in family and community. From Tulare Street to Fulton Mall, Manchester Center, and now Fig Garden Village, each move marked growth and reinvention. In 1990, James and Mary Ann Orloff continued the legacy, rebranding as Orloff Jewelers. Today, third-generation jeweler Maxwell Orloff is poised to lead the company into its next chapter with fresh vision and deep respect for its heritage.
LB Three generations of family ownership is rare in any industry, especially luxury retail. How has that shaped the brand’s identity over the decades?
OJ Three generations of family ownership have shaped Orloff Jewelers into a brand built on trust, good communication, and a strong family foundation. Our longevity comes from blending wisdom earned over decades with the innovation and energy of the next generation. This balance ensures we stay connected to our roots while evolving to meet the needs of today’s luxury customers. It’s a legacy where tradition meets forward-thinking, and every decision is guided by purpose, care, and family values.
LB In an era of trends and technology, how does Orloff stay true to its heritage while evolving with modern tastes and expectations?
OJ At Orloff Jewelers, we believe sustainable growth starts from within. By investing in education, mentorship, and transparent communication, we honor our heritage while evolving with modern tastes. We foster a culture of honesty, collaboration, and continuous learning, where every team member feels empowered and aligned. With the right advisors and a united team, we stay rooted in integrity and tradition—while building a future that reflects today’s values and tomorrow’s vision. It truly takes a village.
LB What does “family business” mean to you today?
OJ “Family business” today means building something lasting through love, trust, and shared purpose—whether you’re related by blood or bonded by
values. It’s about sustainability in every sense: nurturing a legacy, supporting one another, and celebrating the fun times along the way. At Orloff Jewelers, it’s watching your family grow—not just at home, but within our team and community. Our incredible team is at the heart of this, made up of passionate individuals who care deeply about each other and the people we serve. Together, we’ve created a culture where everyone feels seen, valued, and invested in the future we’re building. That sense of belonging is what truly makes a business feel like family.
LB Orloff has been part of so many milestone moments in customers’ lives. Is there a particular story that stands out as emblematic of your purpose?
OJ A customer bought a 5-carat natural diamond, so eager to propose that he accidentally drove off with the ring on the roof of his car. We found it in the street, miraculously unharmed. That night, we treated the couple to dinner and champagne—she said yes! It was a moment of joy, relief, and love. Time and time again, we’re honored to be part of life’s most meaningful moments and to help create memories that last a lifetime.
LB Legacy often lives in the details. Are there specific traditions, design elements, or philosophies that have been passed down through the generations?
OJ At Orloff Jewelers, legacy lives in how we live our values—integrity, excellence, service, and community—every day. We lead by example, deliver exceptional jewelry and care, and treat every interaction with respect. Through mentorship and hands-on training, we pass down not just skills, but the deeper “why” behind our work. These daily actions ensure our philosophy is not just taught, but lived in every client experience, team relationship, and community connection for generations to come.
LB While celebrating this 70th Anniversary, what vision do you hold for the next chapter of Orloff Jewelers—and the next generation who may carry it forward?
OJ As we celebrate 70 years, our vision is to pass Orloff Jewelers on to the next generation—both within our family and among the emerging leaders who share our values. They are already playing an active role in the business, learning not just how to sustain it, but how to grow it with purpose, integrity, and heart. Just as important, they’re engaged in giving back to the community, understanding that true leadership is rooted in service. Our goal is to ensure Orloff’s legacy continues through individuals who lead with excellence and a deep respect for everything this company stands for.

University High School (UHS) in unlike any other high school in the Central Valley, and that’s not just because of its direct affliction with the area’s largest college campus. Established in 2000 through a charter written by Dr. Luis Costa, then Dean of the College of Arts and Humanities at California State University, Fresno, with partial funding from the State of California, UHS built a state-of-the-art facility on the Fresno State campus. In building the foundation for University High School, Dr. Costa and his team began to envision a rigorous, liberal arts school that would teach music, Latin, and would be the pride of the Central Valley. UHS students are concurrently enrolled at Fresno State, completing at least one year of college coursework by the time they graduate. They receive Fresno State ID cards and have access to university resources, including the library and campus green spaces.
A PREMIER PUBLIC CHARTER
University High School is a public charter school of choice, meaning students from any district can apply and, if selected through their lottery system, attend without needing a district transfer. UHS accepts 135 freshmen annually and is also a music-focused school—every student participates in a performing ensemble, either choral or instrumental.
What truly sets UHS apart includes:
• College Integration UHS students take collegelevel courses at Fresno State, while most area schools partner with community colleges.
• 48 Book Program Each student receives one high-quality book per month over four years—48 books in total—to build a personal library and encourage deep reading with annotation and discussion.
• Intersessions Twice a year, students participate in enrichment classes like sailing, SAT prep, trips to Belize or Costa Rica, community service, painting, and many more.
• Personal Fitness Focus Their P.E. program emphasizes lifelong health and personal fitness. Students use heart rate monitors and apps to track progress and consistently outperform nearby districts on state fitness assessments.
• Comprehensive Student Support UHS employs two full-time counselors, a part-time mental health therapist, and even a therapy dog. The counseling team also leads a wellness curriculum on mental health, stress, anxiety, and nutrition.
• Code of Character Strong values are instilled with their “UHS Code of Character”—students strive to be Understanding, Honorable, and Studious. An Honor Commission promotes a culture of kindness, community, and ethical citizenship.
According to the 2024 U.S. News & World Report rankings, UHS is: #1 in the Fresno Metro Area #12 among all California high schools #27 among charter high schools nationwide #110 among all high schools in the U.S.
*These
One of the key drivers of UHS’s success is their student body. Because students choose to attend UHS, often leaving their neighborhood schools, they arrive highly motivated and ready to engage. This sense of ownership creates a school culture where hard work, curiosity, and academic excellence are celebrated. The result is a positive, collaborative environment where students support one another and take pride in their learning.
Equally important is the caliber of their teaching staff. UHS teachers are highly qualified professionals—many with advanced degrees—who are deeply committed to their students and passionate about their subjects. They bring high expectations, innovative teaching strategies, and a college-preparatory mindset to the classroom, challenging students while providing the support they need to thrive.
UHS’s stunning campus was designed by world-renowned architect Art Dyson. Several locations on the Fresno State campus were considered; the current site was chosen for its accessibility and alignment to the Music Department along with Fresno State’s long-term vision for partnership and growth. The architecture of these buildings blends innovation with modern aesthetics, offering students an inspiring place to learn every day.
From the very beginning, music education was not just an extracurricular activity—it was a central pillar of the UHS experience. Mr. Gerard Jones, the founding music director, developed and built the program into the vibrant, multi-ensemble department it is today. Music continues to play a critical role in shaping students’ discipline, creativity, emotional intelligence, and collaborative skills—tools that support both academic and lifelong success.
In the late 1990s, many school districts were drastically cutting back their arts and music programs. Around that time, a Fresno State music professor approached former dean Dr. Luis Costa with concerns about the declining quality of public school music education. The professor hoped to start an after-school music program—but when the California Department of Education invited CSU deans to consider founding charter schools, Dr. Costa saw an even greater opportunity.
After conducting focus groups and research, the conclusion was clear: Fresno needed a rigorous, college-preparatory high school. At the time, many students entering the CSU system required remedial coursework in English and math. Research showed that students who studied and performed music regularly outperformed their peers academically. Thus, music became the school’s “common interest,” helping to shape a unified, high-achieving student body.
There are 12 choral and instrumental performing groups found at UHS: Choral Groups
• Concert Choir
• Advanced Concert Choir
• Mixed Choir
• Chamber Choir
• Show Choir
Instrumental Groups
• Concert Band
• Symphonic Band
• Wind Ensemble
• String Ensemble
• Percussion Ensemble
• Jazz Band
• Symphony Orchestra
TAILORED TO THE MODERN WORLD
UHS offers a personalized and rigorous learning environment. With a student body of about 500, the teachers here truly get to know their students and adapt instruction to support individual needs. The campus culture is tight-knit and collaborative, fostering both academic and personal growth. Students graduate with real-world skills, including technological fluency, community service experience, and the ability to navigate a college campus with confidence. A commitment to communication, innovation, and excellence ensures UHS graduates are ready for success—wherever their futures take them.

In the heart of California’s Central Valley, where fertile soil gives rise to world-renowned produce, a storied culinary institution continues to set the standard for fine dining. The Vintage Press (VP) in Downtown Visalia is more than a restaurant—it is a living legacy, lovingly stewarded by the Vartanian family for nearly 60 years. With its timeless sophistication, seasonal innovation, and hallmark hospitality, The Vintage Press stands as one of California’s most treasured gastronomic destinations. Today, that legacy is thoughtfully preserved—and boldly reimagined—by founder John Vartanian’s sons, Greg and David Vartanian.
“We started out in the saloon business,” Greg recalls of the family’s early roots in Hanford. His father, John, opened the original restaurant there in 1964 before constructing the now-iconic Visalia location, which opened its doors in 1966. At
a time when the Central Valley was better known for agriculture than epicurean experiences, The Vintage Press elevated the region’s culinary landscape. John’s devotion to quality, attention to detail, and gracious service laid the foundation for a multigenerational pursuit of excellence.
The Vartanians are a restaurant family through and through—John and his brothers once operated The Sportsman’s Club in Hanford and The Pastime in Lemoore. Greg and David later ran The Depot and Jack & Charlie’s, located just down the street from The Vintage Press, until the pandemic led to their closure. John remained actively involved in VP alongside his sons, two of his eleven children (eight boys and three girls), until his passing in 2022. “There was a time when there were eight of us working here,” David notes. Greg adds, “All the girls put themselves through college by working here.”
Today, Greg and David’s leadership fuses reverence for tradition with a forward-looking vision. Greg, who helmed the kitchen for over three decades, now leads front-of-house operations with the kind of intuitive grace honed over a lifetime in hospitality. In the kitchen, David now brings a refined, ingredient-driven approach to the menu, celebrating the Central Valley’s bounty. Their shared culinary philosophy, rooted in seasonality and classical technique, results in dishes that are elegant yet approachable—such as the beloved Roasted Whole Baby Pumpkin, a whimsical and refined signature that captures the essence of the Vartanian ethos.
Equally lauded is The Vintage Press’s world-class wine program, curated with care and passion. Repeatedly recognized by Wine Spectator as among the finest globally, the wine list offers a sophisticated journey through California’s top vineyards and esteemed international regions. In fact, the name “Vintage Press” originally inspired the interior aesthetic as well. “It had old wine presses at the front and this room here had plastic grapes hanging from the ceiling,” David recalls fondly of what is now called the Main Room.
Originally just the two northern dining rooms, The Vintage Press expanded in the early 1980s when the family acquired the adjacent property—a former gas station—to add a larger bar, another dining room, a garden patio, and parking. Whether enjoying wine alfresco in the European-style garden or dining in one of four ornately appointed rooms, guests are immersed in an atmosphere where old-world charm meets modern luxury. The Rose Room features the historic Brunswick Bar. The Garden Room sits between the Savoy Room and the entrance. The Main Room, with mirrored walls and hand-painted frescos by local artist Louis Knutson, invites guests into timeless tradition.
Yet what truly sets The Vintage Press apart in the modern era is its ability to evolve while staying anchored in its founding values. One shining example of this is the VP’s Recipe Club, conceived by Greg in the 1990s as a way to enliven slow days at the restaurant. Today, David leads two events each month (except December) that provide guests with an immersive culinary experience. The Dinner Club meets on
the last Tuesday of each month, while the Lunch Club gathers the Saturday before. “The lunch one is a little more serious, and the dinner one is a little more festive,” Greg distinguishes.
Far more than a collection of recipes, the club offers a rare glimpse behind the scenes of one of California’s most respected kitchens. Conceived before cooking shows became a cultural phenomenon, it provides guests with something that can’t be streamed or scrolled—a front-row seat to the creative process, guided by a renowned chef whose work reflects decades of expertise in a stunning setting. Participants receive exclusive access to recipes, live demonstrations, behind-the-scenes stories, and seasonal recommendations. Whether recreating a family dessert or mastering a signature entrée, home cooks are welcomed into the Vartanians’ culinary world.
What Greg and David continue to uphold is something deeply personal and increasingly rare. “You take the family out of it, there’s nothing left,” Greg says. And their commitment is unwavering. “We’ve been here 60 years and we have no plans to not do this,” he adds. “How it’s going to continue? We’re not quite sure, but we want it to continue and we plan to always—as long as we’re alive, we’re going to be involved for the most part.”
As The Vintage Press approaches its sixth decade, it stands as a beacon of authenticity in an ever-changing world. It is a place where time slows, where excellence is tangible, and where every detail tells a story. Every immaculate place setting, every curated playlist, every precisely plated dish reflects an unwavering dedication to tradition and hospitality. The Vartanians don’t just serve meals—they serve memories.
Ultimately, The Vintage Press is more than a restaurant—it’s a celebration of craft, culture, and continuity. It bridges generations, inspires creativity, and reminds us that great food has the power to bring people together, whether at a restaurant table or a home kitchen island. It honors the past while embracing the present, creating moments that linger in memory. In every dish and every detail, the Vartanian family’s legacy lives on—refined, relevant, and rooted in love.

Step inside Creative Tile in Fresno, and it quickly becomes clear—this isn’t your average tile showroom. It’s a space where design meets passion, where artistry and craftsmanship come together to transform the ordinary into the extraordinary. Known for their ever-evolving displays and hands-on expertise, the team at Creative Tile brings a contagious enthusiasm to every project, whether you’re a homeowner starting a DIY remodel or an interior designer sourcing material for a large-scale build. Theirs is a legacy that began 25 years ago, on August 15th, when Creative Tile opened its doors and invited the Central Valley to experience the art of tile in an entirely new way.
The creative energy behind it all comes from the mother-son duo, owners Tara and Kaleb Smith, whose passion for tile and dedication to building genuine connections with customers shape every corner of the showroom. “We love what we do—that’s the difference,” they’ll tell you, and it shows. “This is our 25th year in business,” beams Tara, President and Chief Financial Officer of Creative Tile. “We were just a family that had a vision. No corporate backing, no deep pockets—just blood, sweat, and tears. We are the epitome of hard work, determination, and not taking ‘no’ for an answer.” Kaleb, who grew up immersed in the business and those same values, now serves as Vice President and Store Manager, officially stepping into the role five years ago to help guide the company’s continued growth.
What the Smiths have built is now one of the most recognizable names in tile supply—but it all began with humble beginnings. Creative Tile started as a small corner within what is now their expansive 17,000-square-foot showroom, initially selling only pool tile, as the business originally focused on pool tile installation. “We sold a work truck for $10,000 and we bought some inventory to sell pool tile. Then as the years went on, we decided that there was a need in Fresno for a showroom that carried not just your basic lines of tile, but lines that were unique and different that people were traveling outside of the Fresno area to find,” Tara recounts.
Today, Creative is more than just a source for tile and natural stone—they are a trusted partner to designers, contractors, and customers who value not only beautiful products but also deep knowledge and installation experience. With globally sourced brands like Walker Zanger, Artistic Tile, Oceanside Glass, and Pratt & Larson, Creative Tile merges high-end design with competitive pricing, making style and quality accessible for any scale of project or level of expertise. Whether renovating a kitchen, enhancing a patio, or crafting a statement piece, Creative Tile’s collection breadth empowers customers to bring virtually any creative concept to life.
Creative Tile offers an impressively diverse array of collection types, ensuring there’s something for every design vision. Their curated categories include Porcelain Slabs for sleek, modern surfaces, Pattern Mosaics that add intricate flair and texture, and the artisanal beauty of Zellige Moroccan
Tile. For vintage charm, they feature Cement & Encaustic collections, while Decorative Porcelain and Terrazzo bring bold style and timeless elegance. The showroom also showcases traditional Flooring, vibrant Glass, sturdy Stone, and unique materials like Metal, Painted Tile, Pebble, Shell, and solutions for Swimming Pool Materials and Landscaping.
Kaleb is primarily responsible for the meticulously crafted display boards and interactive exhibits that define the Creative Tile showroom experience—each one hand-cut and assembled by him. Unlike most tile stores that simply stack boxes for customers to browse, “We design our tiles to be on the wall like an art gallery,” Kaleb explains. “We want clients to come in and, regardless of the size of the job, we want people to see and be inspired by just even how we display it, which I think really is what sets us apart.” From setting materials to installation tools, customers can find everything they need under one roof, all while being warmly welcomed by Creative Tile’s outstanding warehouse team the moment they arrive.
Aquarter of a century in business naturally comes with its share of challenges. “We have, in 25 years, faced so many adversities and trials that didn’t just affect us economically or pandemically, but also our family,” Tara reflects. “We’ve gone through and weathered many storms, and we’re still here— standing and thriving.” The 2007/2008 market crash forced Creative to close their newly opened Visalia location. “But we protected Fresno as much as we could, and we always kept our employees,” she adds, going so far as to sell personal assets just to make payroll during the toughest times.
The pandemic brought a new wave of challenges—along with an unexpected silver lining. After successfully protesting city threats to shut their doors over code enforcement, “We were able to turn 2020 into one of our most successful years because we were catering to people in a way that they felt safe and they felt good,” Tara says of Creative’s customer-first approach. “Nobody could travel, so people were spending money on remodels,” Kaleb adds. “And they were coming here because people needed their homes. It was a necessity. That set us apart, too.” That same year, Creative Tile strengthened its digital footprint by launching a fully shoppable website, now shipping to customers across the United States.
“Every single day, Creative Tile is a new adventure,” Tara relishes. “There’re always new experiences, new people coming in with different projects. So, it’s a really exciting place to work and to be a part of. We never get bored!” The Smiths and their team are deeply attuned to the ideas, inspirations, and requests brought in by clients, using that input to stay ahead of emerging trends and evolving design aesthetics in the tile world. “That keeps us fired up,” Kaleb shares. “Our shop is always going forward. It’s never going backwards.”
The duo emphasizes that no project is too small for Creative Tile, as they take pride in offering the same level of quality and attention to every customer regardless of their experience or scope of work.
“It’s about relationships with people and networking and trying to build that trust with people, because at the end of the day, it’s about what people say about you, and it’s about what they feel when they walk into the space,” Tara acknowledges, recognizing that word of mouth is key to their ongoing success and strong referral base. “That’s how Creative Tile is still here after 25 years—because of that type of organic service that we offer and how we make people feel when they come in.”
“When I talk about legacy,” Kaleb begins, “I want people to know that dreamers, who came up from nothing when they started this company, turned it into something and made it bigger than what they probably would have ever even thought and expected it to be.” Tara and Kaleb’s shared vision for Creative Tile is deeply rooted in building something that lasts far beyond the present moment. “Everything that we do on a daily basis is not just for today. It is for the future. It is for the next generation,” Tara ensures. “Everything that I do behind the scenes financially, how make decisions financially for the company, how I push the company forward financially, is all in consideration of the next.”
From the beginning, it was Tara’s vision for Creative Tile to be a generational endeavor—one that would provide not only a sense of place and purpose for her own family, but also for the families of those who work alongside them. “Our future, and the legacy of Creative, is our family. And when I say our family, it’s not just my son and my daughter and my grandchildren—it’s also my employees,” she says. “My employees are an extension of our family.” Eight families make up the Creative Tile team, and many of those members have been with the company for over 20 years and span two generations.
As Creative Tile celebrates 25 years of innovation, resilience, and heartfelt connection, its legacy continues to flourish—one tile at a time. Tara and Kaleb are the tile Smiths that have built more than a showroom—they’ve created a space where design dreams take shape and relationships are forged. No project is too small for their attention and expertise. “Creative is unique to the Valley not only because of the products that we sell, but the service and the care that goes into every single sale and relationship that we build,” Tara asserts. “We take it personally. This is not just a job—this is our life.”
Whether you’re seeking ideas, materials, or expert guidance, Creative Tile welcomes you to stop by, say hello, and enjoy a stroll through their ever-changing showroom—where every square foot tells a story.

The April marriage of Kimberly Bedrosian and Tyson Nunes united two Central Valley families with deep roots in a setting that was as meaningful as it was breathtaking. The reception, held in the beautifully manicured gardens of the bride’s family home, was widely regarded as the wedding of the season and attended by some of the most glamorous figures in the Greater Fresno area. But Kim and Ty’s story began long before this much-anticipated and storied spring celebration, on September 8th, 2021.
Theirs is a relationship that proves online dating can have a fairytale ending. A self-described “Bumble couple,” Kim recalls, “We were both on our last nerves with online dating at that point, but we both matched that day,” noting their shared Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo connection. A simple “Go Mustangs!” message from her sparked their initial chat. Tyson responded right away, and the two quickly exchanged numbers. Kim then reached out to a mutual friend she discovered they shared on social media to learn more about him.
“He’s from Tulare. His family is amazing. He’s awesome, so much fun—I grew up with him. You definitely need to date him,” her friend Reagan raved, giving Kim the green-light she needed. As their early courtship unfolded, the couple began to suspect this might not have been their first encounter given the common college ground. “We were there the same years, like there was a little overlap,” she elaborates. “Same major, same classes. I’m not going say we never met because we very well could have, but we never met consciously.” Then again, timing is everything.

It was clear that first Christmas season that something truly special was transpiring. As a gift for Kim, Ty commissioned three paintings inspired by songs that held deep sentimental value for both of them—one of which would later become their first dance song: Strawberries by Caamp. “We met in September. By early November, I was like, ‘I think this is it for me,’” Kim recalls. “I knew by the second date,” asserts Tyson, referencing a day trip they took to see the melodrama in Oceano, followed by dinner in Pismo Beach. “Everything was just so easy and natural. It just felt right.”
It felt like home. Both the Bedrosian and Nunes families have called the Central Valley home for generations, each creating profound legacies over the years. Kimberly’s grandparents came to Fowler from Armenia during the genocide more than a century ago. Her father, Kenneth, helped found National Raisin Company alongside his brothers in 1969. Tyson’s family arrived in the region around the same time and is now in its fourth generation of farming and dairy work in Tulare. In fact, Ty is the youngest of nearly two dozen grandchildren in his family.
Jewelry is another passion that runs in Kim’s blood—her maternal grandfather worked for Harry Winston in Los Angeles and was one of the jewelers who worked on the Hope Diamond. For her mother Jane’s wedding, he crafted gold rings for
each of her bridesmaids, featuring a rose design and their birthstones at the center—Kim was later gifted the one originally made for her aunt. Still, Kimberly’s most treasured ring arrived in July 2023, when Tyson proposed. He designed the three-stone engagement ring himself, and both it and their wedding bands were crafted by Ashoori & Co. Jewelers in Visalia. Ty’s wedding band mirrors Kim’s, featuring the same three stone shapes: round, princess, and pear
Everyone at the jewelry store was so taken with Tyson’s ring design that the owner, Mike Ashoori, called to say, “I advise you to get down here to the shop before one of these ladies here gets off with it because they’re all going bananas over it,” Ty recounts. “Then he told me, ‘Let me know as soon as you propose so that I can share it because we’ve never done something like this and it’s so unique and I’m looking forward to sharing it, advertising, promoting it.’”
Tyson proposed to Kimberly at Chapel Hill in Shandon, overlooking the vineyards. The joy-filled selfie they snapped in that moment was so magical that the jeweler asked to feature it on his business billboard, saying, “It really just brings out everything you would think an engagement looks like.” That advertisement ran for months along Mooney Boulevard.
According to Kim, most Armenian weddings are primarily white—but not theirs! The celebration was as unconventional as the couple’s rings. Each woman in the bridal party chose her own dress, all tied together through a shared color story of fuchsia and floral patterns. “I had seven bridesmaids and one junior bridesmaid, which was my niece, so eight total,” Kim lists. “And then I had two matrons of honor.” Tyson also had eight groomsmen, including his best friend, both of his brothers, and Kim’s two brothers, along with other relatives and friends. The men’s classic tuxedos were accented with brightly colored floral boutonnières.
Kim’s attire perfectly echoed the “Garden Glam” theme. For her wedding dress, she visited What’s Up Europe and selected a floral lace gown by Vladiyan Royal Dresses, paired with Betsy Johnson shoes. Her reception dress, from Unmatched BYU, matched the bridal party’s bright pink hue. Hairstyling was provided by Bay Area Beautiful and Jessica Dewey, while makeup was done by Makeup My Manda and Teri Means. Kim’s sunless tan was applied by Naked Tans, and her nails were done by Glossy Nails Salon. Tyson wore a custom tuxedo with a floral lining, crafted by Crumps Clothing. In preparation for the big day, both visited Teeth That Sparkle for a couples whitening session.
The wedding was a two-part, dual-city celebration. The formal ceremony took place at First Armenian Presbyterian Church in Fresno, with music performed by The Tower Quartet. Guests then made their way to Kim’s childhood home—her parents’ ranch in Fowler—for the reception. There, 285 guests gathered to socialize, dine, drink, and dance the night away. Absolute Comfort Limousine provided transportation for the wedding party and served as a convenient and efficient shuttle service for guests.
The Bedrosian estate grounds provided the perfect backdrop for the celebration, allowing the “Garden Glam” theme to shine throughout the décor. The Linen Shoppe handled the linens used on the chairs, tabletops, farm tables, and church draping. White Linen Design created the stationery, while Kiku Floral designed all of the floral arrangements. Furnishings were provided by Best Party Rentals, with specialty rentals and bars sourced from Stockroom Picks. Lighting was supplied by Light Up The Walls. Pardini’s Catering & Banquets managed the food and drinks, and the wedding cake, desserts, and floral butters were the creative work of One Sweet Table.
No detail was overlooked. The Ivory Rose Creative designed the signage and bar vinyls, while Celeb Creations produced the dance floor and stage wraps. Facilities were provided by the Oval Office Restrooms trailer. An audio guestbook was curated by Two Little Doves, and custom Fat Heads of the couple’s pets were created by Pro-Screen Inc. Print, Signage, and Graphics. Kim and Ty even handmade the guest favors themselves—bars of Sober Duck Soap from their own handcrafted artisan soap line.
Capturing the event was a top priority. Guests enjoyed the photo booth provided by Entertainment 360, while videographer McCall Ryan documented what will undoubtedly become Kim and Ty’s favorite movie to rewatch for years to come. The couple also hired live painter Jess Perna Fine Art to create a real-time painting of their wedding, all as DJ Diko kept guests dancing well into the night. Their choreographed first dance was brought to life with the help of Nathan Gonzales.
From a serendipitous Bumble match to a wedding day steeped in tradition, creativity, and deep personal meaning, Kimberly and Tyson’s love story is a testament to timing, intention, and shared roots. Surrounded by family, friends, and generations of love, their celebration was more than a beautiful event—it was the joyful beginning of a new legacy. As the sun set over the Fowler vineyards and the music played into the night, it was clear to everyone in attendance that this was not just the wedding of the season, but the start of a lifetime filled with laughter, purpose, and enduring connection.
The Elbow Room Bar & Grill has been one of Fresno’s most beloved traditions for seven decades now. Celebration of this milestone anniversary also happens to coincide with their 2025 Luxury Awards Best Bar win, a title bestowed upon them by the magazine’s readership. Today, the legacy of Elbow Room exemplifies a culinary legacy unlike any other in the Central Valley.
In honor of these recognitions, CVLUX’s Editorial Director Lauren Barisic and Event Director & Producer Laura Thompson, together with Elbow Room owner Mike Shirinian, hosted the Legacy Edition of Shake+Stir there, where all met for an afternoon of Elbow Room’s quinnessential timeless hospitality. The pair were joined by guests Cindy Matoian, Brittany Fontes, Davita Miller, Brittney Sarale, and Summer Bradford for a unforgettable meal—much of which is thanks to Chef de Cuisine Eric Rodriguez, who brings exceptional skill and extraordinary vision to each and every plate that comes out of Elbow Room’s kitchen.
Since its founding establishment in 1955, Elbow Room has been a cornerstone of Fresno’s dining scene, and today it flourishes as a premier bar and restaurant. What started as a neighborhood favorite has grown into an
elevated destination known for expertly grilled steaks, iconic craft cocktails, and a dining experience decidedly steeped in both comfort and tradition. The Elbow Room team honors a long, storied past all while embracing the present—this includes welcoming generations of guests with genuine service and elevated fare.
The table was set with the help of several local vendors. Florals of green and white were sourced locally and arranged by DH Floral. Capri Blue Volcano Candles were gifted to each lady by Revival 23. Linens comprised of a black charger and monochrome striped napkins came from The Linen Shoppe. Modern Press Paper Studio provided custom menus and vellum-wrapped place cards. All seamlessly coordinated with the ambiance found on the Vineyard Patio, where the group was seated for a seven-course tasting menu with wine and cocktail couplings.
Seafood was up first for the starter course. Mango Avocado Crab Cocktail with pickled onion, yuzu, and cilantro set the stage with a refreshing tone. 2020 Schramsberg “Blanc de Banc” from Napa was an ideal palette introduction for both the food and the mood. This bubbly is a favorite amongst the ladies, who marveled at how summer-centric the combination presented.
Brussels Sprouts were served as the appetizer course, and the ladies had the option to choose between two libations for the accompanying cocktail as the plate was presented. Elbow’s Brussels have been a top menu item for years. “We get these every time we come here,” Brittany proudly professed. “It’s one of our favorite small bites.” A generous smearing of goat cheese purée is underneath the charred greens, which then have bourbon glaze drizzled atop.
Whiskey pairs beautifully with the above, so there was a choice between stiff or sparkling for the initial cocktail. The Kentucky Spiced Mule features Michter’s Bourbon, Cock’n Bull Ginger Beer, fresh lime juice, orgeat, and star anise for an energizing sip. The Angels Envy EBR Barrel Old Fashion, concocted with bitters, simple syrup, a filthy cheery, and orange garnish, is a no-brainer pick for enthusiasts like Brittney. “This is the best Old Fashion you can have,” she asserted with unshakable confidence.
The third course emphasized summer produce. Creamy Risotto Primavera was made with pecorino cheese and gently mixed with baby spinach, yellow squash, oven-dried tomatoes, and lemon for a bright finish. This dish was universally loved, but Summer enjoyed it so much that she cleaned her plate, sharing that “It tastes like the best of summer.”
Sally’s Italian Strawberry Smash furthered the summertime feels put forth by the risotto. It’s basically an adults-only strawberry lemonade. Crop Organic Meyer Lemon Vodka is the base, which is mixed with fresh lemon juice, simple syrup, strawberry purée, and fresh basil. “This is hands-down my favorite drink of the night!” Brittany couldn’t help but rave.
Up next was the Pistachio Almond Chicken Milanese. A crispy chicken cutlet comes seated on almond pesto and is then covered with arugula dressed in Champagne dressing, ovendried tomatoes, balsamic reduction, and grated pecorino cheese. “I love arugula, so I was excited for this dish and it absolutely did not disappoint,” avowed Cindy.
With this fourth course came the Cool as Cucumber cocktail, made with Crop Cucumber Vodka, lime juice, agave, elderflower liqueur, cucumber, and a club soda float. “This is the one I’ve been looking forward to!” Davita shared passionately. “I love anything with cucumber. This is so easy to drink and is especially perfect for hot summer days by the pool.”
The Crab Stuffed Salmon makes for a stunning presentation. The fish is filled with whipped brie and served on a bed of couscous with arugula and lemon zest. A lovely, light Dijon beurre blanc finished the dish. The creaminess of the cheese inside the filet creates an interactive experience, and the resulting melt doubles as a secondary sauce.
This fifth course fish dish brought with it another opportunity for the ladies to make a drink selection, which included the first of two wine offerings for this legacy-inspired tasting menu at Elbow Room. For white, the 2021 Frank Family Chardonnay from Carneros is an ideal vino coupling. For something harder, the Watermelon Cooler is made with Platinum 7 Vodka, fresh watermelon, mint juice, and fresh lime juice. “I can see myself drinking these at the lake,” divulged Cindy.
For the final savory, a striking trifecta shined a spotlight on the Dry Aged 7oz. New York Steak with a duo of sides. Served with fingerling potatoes and grilled asparagus, the beef is sourced out of Nebraska and finished with Maldon sea salt and herbs. “Elbow sure knows how to grill a steak, and I really love the finishing touches like the salt,” shared Brittney. “It just feels so thoughtful.” The delightful 2021 Elbow Room “Collaboration” Cabernet Sauvignon from Napa was utter perfection in the pairing realm.
Dessert at the Elbow Room is not to be forgone. Both banana and bread pudding fans will be downright gleeful over their Bourbon Banana Bread Pudding. Dusted with powdered sugar, dripping in caramel sauce, and served alongside a scoop of vanilla ice cream, “This is a dessert you can’t turn down,” Davita admitted. “I love the combination of textures and temperatures, and the flavor is just delicious.”
If you prefer to drink your dessert, you can easily have one of the two nightcaps here alone, but Elbow’s sweet endings are always better together. The Joseph Magnus Bourbon offered embodies rich flavors with notes of orange citrus, dried dark fruits and vanilla. Additionally, many have called Elbow Room’s the best Espresso Martini in town, and it’s tough to argue with this claim to fame. Even Summer admitted, “This is way too easy to finish!” It includes Platinum 7 Vodka, Kahlua, Bailey’s, and vanilla simple syrup.
Beyond the daily dining options, Elbow Room Bar & Grill elevates the classic restaurant experience with a series of exclusive wine-pairing dinners and themed tasting menus, carefully curated to delight even the most discerning palates. Hosted in their elegant Vineyard Patio or intimate Wine Cellar, these multi-course events feature expertly matched vintages and spirits—often
from highly regarded California producers—with decadent dishes such as dry aged steaks, fresh seafood, and seasonal sides.
In fact, Elbow Room and CVLUX are coming together for an exclusive evening featuring the bold elegance of La Lomita Ranch Wines within the rustic charm of the Vineyard Patio. Set for Thursday, October 9th, this intimate affair is limited to just 50 ticketed guests, offering a thoughtfully curated four-course dinner designed to complement the rich complexity of LLR’s signature wines. As part of the Elbow Room’s celebrated wine pairing series, each course promises a seamless balance of flavor, craftsmanship, and ambiance—perfectly capturing the spirit of autumn in the Central Valley while also allowing patrons to get a taste of what this Shake+Stir was like.
As the conversation flowed—full of summer plans, travel adventures, favorite bites, and the bonds of friendship—it became clear that Elbow Room is more than just a backdrop; it’s a living part of the Central Valley’s legacy. Under the thoughtful leadership of owner Mike Shirinian, and now celebrating its 70th anniversary, the restaurant continues to embody the spirit of hospitality and connection. A beloved fixture of the community, Elbow Room Bar & Grill remains a place where memories are made, laughter is shared, and friendships are celebrated—just as it has for generations.
