Brampton Townhouse Development

June 2024

Context: Work/Internship

Location: Brampton, Ontario

During my work at a local firm in Toronto, Ontario, I took part in the design of a modern townhouse development across 2 acres of land, comprising of 4 blocks and 29 units, totaling 61,000 square feet. My tasks included creating massing and facade design as well as using BIM tools to create orthographics as submittals for the Site Plan Approval (SPA) phase of the project.

Block 1

Block one of the townhouse development faces Embleton Road on the northern side and is also in front of a local primary school. Bold massing as well as a combination of masonry and wood grains form the cladding of this block.

Block 2

Block 2 of this townhouse development sits in the centre of the site, with a unique composition of massing and cladding. It creates a sense of variation, while maintaing a degree of unity, which enhances the experience of this townhome community.

Block 3 & 4

Block 3 and 4 of the development sits at the southernmost side of the site, with a more organic patterning of massing and cladding on it’s northside. The southern facade and backyard spaces of these two blocks face the woodland conservation area set by the City of Brampton, allowing inhabitants to enjoy a view of nature.

Bakery Square Environmental School

November 2024

Collaborators: Miles Rainwater

Course: Poesis Studio III

Instructor: Jongwan Kwon

Location: Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

Based on an architectural field drawing that was produced from analyzing two architectural precedents, a certain logic and concept was retained in the planning of a school in Pittsburgh. The school serves grades 6-8, focusing on education in sustainability and environmental studies.

Physical Field Model

The main design logic extracted from the field transformation was the use of offsetting and clustering. This design tries to reflect that in its composition through the placement of more private rooms or classroom clusters which are built on the peripheries of larger, more communal areas.

Daycare In Lawrenceville

April 2024

Course: Poesis Studio II

Instructor: Chelsea Jno Baptiste

Location: Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

Taking into condsideration a family of six, this project is a program for a daycare that would serve the local community of Lawrenceville, which the family would run. In addition, living spaces for the family are incorporated into the program. The project primarily experiments with massing that generates functional spaces for residential and commercial use.

Pittsburgh Gulf Tower Conversion (In-Progress)

Course: “Unlikely Hybrids” Options Studio Instructor: Jared Abraham

Location: Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

“Under current conditions, many who work in Downtown cannot afford to live in the neighborhood, or struggle to find available affordable units... Pittsburgh’s Downtown Conversion Program looks to simultaneously address the lack of quality affordable housing options Downtown and reduce underutilized office space.”

- The Urban Redevelopment Authority Downtown Conversion Program RFP, 2023

Given the condition of vacancy in office towers in Downtown Pittsburgh, the task for this project is to convert the historic Gulf Tower into residential and other programs such as civic or commercial space. This is in an effort to support the Downtown Pittsburgh Revitalization Plan.
