E-Coustic Systems Litereature

E-Coustic Systems is the world’s leading developer of electronic architecture and immersive audio systems. For more than thirty years, our award-winning technologies have improved the acoustic quality and listening experience for a multitude of venues. Our revolutionary techniques in advanced digital electronics and patented signal processing produce both unrivaled versatility and incomparable sonic performance - enabling our technologies to be used in a wider range of spaces and applications. Our expertise in working with renowned ensembles throughout the world is unsurpassed. This, combined with our ongoing research in human perception, drives our mission of enabling both musicians and audience members alike to attain the optimum aural experience.

Elgin and Winter Garden Theatre

E-Coustic Systems evolved from the gold standard for digital reverberation – Lexicon’s 480L. In the late 1980’s all available electro-acoustic systems were immensely complex, extremely expensive, and sonically disappointing. We undertook diligent research to determine the underlying physics problem – then

patented the process that solved it. Next, we developed new algorithms specifically designed for electronic architecture that delivered incredible improvements in sonic performance. This created the foundation of the first LARES systems, ushering in the paradigm shift that made Electronic Architecture viable.

Adelaide Festival Center

Since that time our research in the field of human perception, coupled with development and integration of system components and software, has been unrelenting. We are the only entity that designs and fabricates loudspeaker components specifically designed for Electronic Architecture. Our latest algorithms are based on our award-winning research into how humans perceive sound, and the neural

mechanisms that invoke the sensation of sonic quality. This provides E-Coustic Systems a unique advantage that transcends directly to system design and integration. E-Coustic Systems includes tools that can solve complex problems and satisfy conflicting performance and functional requirements – challenges that are often impossible to resolve in any other way, at any cost.

Theatre Municipal, San Paulo

E-Coustic Systems’ proprietary processing architecture dramatically simplifies the complexity and sonic limitations found in other systems based on older design schemes. The E-Coustic Systems’ approach allows far greater flexibility. Microphone counts and required infrastructure are dramatically reduced requiring less intrusion in architecturally sensitive spaces. Wiring connections between specific microphones

and loudspeakers are also eliminated. E-Coustic Systems enables microphones and loudspeakers to be placed in close proximity to one another without compromise and eliminates the need to have separate microphones and electronics for early energy. Our processing can provide independent control of direct, reflected, and reverberant energy to each loudspeaker.

Central Synagogue

E-Coustic Systems’ unique system architecture enables us to create separate virtual acoustical spaces that coexist adjacent to one another, for example, the formation of a full virtual stage shell that merges seamlessly with the audience. Our systems are used daily throughout the world in a wide variety of applications, including concert halls, opera houses, multipurpose performing arts venues, conference rooms

and training facilities, drama stages, museums, recording studios and labs for research and product development. There is no limitation on system size or channel counts. Our smallest systems are used in rehearsal spaces no larger than a small bedroom. Our largest systems are installed in arenas and used in outdoor performances with audiences of more than 100,000.

Jay Pritzker Pavilion, Millennium Park

E-Coustic Systems are remarkably cost effective to install and easy to operate. Adjustments are simple and straightforward – they can even be made in real time, creating a virtual acoustical environment in almost any size space. Touchscreen control with menus are tailored for each venue or application. Our systems provide unlimited storage and recall of configurations and presets. This ability to instantly optimize room acoustics provides

unprecedented flexibility for spaces that have multi-purpose requirements, enabling them to be successfully shared by groups that have vastly different acoustical needs. In many venues, our system is integrated with sound reinforcement for zoned effects mapping or film surround, including Dolby Atmos. The system can also be interfaced with industry standard show control systems for fully automated acoustic manipulation.

Sweetwater Music Performance Theatre

A properly installed system is usually a fraction of the cost of architectural modifications, and installation time is often faster than even the planning stages for architectural changes. In many instances, our systems can be installed without interrupting the performance schedule of the venue! Best of all, the system can often be easily concealed, making it essentially invisible to the audience. The inerrant range of flexibility of E-Coustic Systems fundamental design structure

allows systems to be configured that substantially reduce the impact on the architecture and interiors, while overcoming sonic limitations imposed by physical architecture. For example, we dramatically improve the listening experience under a balcony, or under loge seating, enabling a uniform listening experience throughout the venue. Working in harmony with the constraints of a space, E-Coustic Systems delivers unparalleled results and cost-effective value.

Concert Hall University of the Incarnate Word

E-Coustic Systems provides the ultimate immersive experience. Hundreds of independent audio channels can be input to our Matrix Processor for object-oriented sound manipulation and sound effects routing while the system simultaneously delivers live Electronic Architecture. Unlike convolution based reverberation used in many object oriented mixing schemes that simply “paste over” the sound decay recorded in a different space, E-Coustic

Systems precise control of direct, reflected, and reverberant energy unifies the acoustic field providing unparalleled acoustic realism and audience engagement. This ability to recreate and control the ambient character of a space and introduce additional audio elements from specific locations is particularly useful for product development, calibration, and research, as well as laboratory studies of human response.

Polsky Theatre

E-Coustic Systems can overcome the architectural constraints found in many rehearsal spaces suitable for large ensembles that both inhibit communication and inflict fatigue. Our systems deliver acoustical flexibility that enables such spaces to successfully accommodate a much wider range of musicians and ensembles. When combined with the appropriate infrastructure, a rehearsal venue can transform into the ideal recording environment – providing far greater acoustic control than even the best halls.

PRODUCTS & SPECIFICATIONS

Unlike generic multi-channel audio systems designed for “commercial” use, our systems rival audiophile performance. Our processing utilizes 64-bit architecture with clock synchronization at 192kHz. Digital audio is transported using AES-10 standard MADI protocol. Both coaxial as well as optical terminations are supported with termination length up to 2000 meters.

Conversion dynamic range exceeds 118dB with .0001% distortion.

Another important difference is that our processing is “dynamic” – it is built for show control. Commands are sent in human readable language using TCP/IP protocol. Any parameter can be “faded” with specific time values –including EQ and delay values.
