Preface Dear econometrician, We proudly present you the profiler National Econometricians Day 2016. This profiler contains all the information you need to know about the National Econometricians Day 2016 (in Dutch: Landelijke Econometristendag, abbreviated as LED) to take control and make the most out of your LED 2016!

Each year, the LED is organised by one or two of the six study associations of Econometrics in the Netherlands. This year, FAECTOR – the study association of Erasmus University Rotterdam – has the honour to organise the LED 2016. Committing to our roots, the LED 2016 will take place in the “World Trade Center Rotterdam”. As the WTC is situated nearby Rotterdam Central Station and in the centre of Rotterdam and is a proven business centre, it is the ideal location for the LED 2016.

This year, we would like you to write your own future. As you can read in this profiler, there will be 36 companies present, making the LED 2016 the perfect day to discover a part of the bright future that is ahead of you as an aspiring econometrician. The LED will give you the opportunity to get in touch with your future employers by means of company cases, an interactive lunch, a networking drink, and a recruitment dinner. The participating companies are active in different fields that are appealing for econometricians, for example finance, actuarial science, strategy consultancy, marketing intelligence, operational research and asset management.

When you subscribe on our website – wwww.leditbeyourday.nl – you have the opportunity to select three preferences for the morning and afternoon case round and the recruitment dinner. Therefore, we would like to encourage you to read everything about the participating companies and their cases in this profiler or on our website to discover which companies suits you the best. During the lunch and networking drink, you will also have the opportunity to meet other companies and perhaps get yourself already an interview for your desired job or internship!

The day will be opened by a lecture of Peter van Manen, a former Formula One executive, and the official part of the day will be closed by Sophie Conijn, a successful people development manager, who will both give an inspiring speech about their field of expertise. As you probably already know, we will end the day with an amazing party. Next to that, we arranged a stayover for you in the famous “Kubuswoningen” near Rotterdam Blaak!

Subscriptions for the LED 2016 will open on 9 December 2015 at 20:00 on www.leditbeyourday.nl for third year students and higher. Note that only a limited amount of students can participate, so subscribe as soon as possible and make sure you can participate in the LED 2016!

Reception The reception provides a welcome to all participants, where coffee and tea are served.

Opening and lecture The chairman of the LED committee officially opens the day. Afterwards, Peter van Manen gives a lecture.

First case round The participating companies present themselves by means of a presentation and a business case. The case round provides an excellent opportunity to find out everything you want to know about the work of the participating companies.

Lunch The lunch gives you the opportunity to get in contact with all participating companies from the first case round in an informal manner. Each company has its own table during this walking lunch, such that you can easily get in contact with the companies of your preference.

Lecture and closure Sophie Conijn gives a second lecture. Afterwards, the official part of the LED 2016 will be closed.

Networking drink The networking drink gives you the opportunity to network with all participating companies from the second case round. Each company has its own table, such that you can easily approach the companies of your preference.

Recruitment dinner The recruitment dinner gives you the opportunity to get in touch with the recruiters and employees of companies in an informal way.

Each table consists of ten people, where at least one company representative is present.

Party The LED 2016 is closed with a party for all participating students. This party takes place in club MY KECH and the drinks are on the house.

Practical information The practical information for the LED 2016 is shown below. In case you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us via info@leditbeyourday.nl.

Subscription You can subscribe by visiting www.leditbeyourday.nl and going to the ‘subscribe’ page. The subscription for third-year students, pre-master students and master students opens on 9 December 2015 at 20:00. The subscription for second-year students opens on 6 January at 0:00. You have to fill in a top of 3 companies for the first case round, the second case round and the recruitment dinner. The flag attached to the company information in this profiler indicates the language of the case. Please note that non-Dutch speaking students are not allowed to subscribe for Dutch cases.

Participation fee The participation fee is €7,50. This fee includes lunch, dinner and drinks during the day and evening.

Traveling costs Students who travel by train and do not have a public transport card for weekdays can have their traveling costs compensated. To receive this compensation, you need a transaction overview of your public transport card. The maximum billable amount is stated in the terms and conditions.

Stay over For students who want to attend the party in club MY KECH with drinks (beer, wine and soda) on the house, we provide the opportunity to spend the night in hostel Stayokay Rotterdam. A shuttle bus is arranged to bring you to the hostel. For this service we charge an additional fee of €7,50.

Blacklist Unfortunately, there have been some no-shows during previous editions of the LED (people who subscribed, but did not attend the LED). In order to prevent this on the LED 2016, we maintain the following policy: anyone who subscribes but does not show up without informing us in time will receive a fine of €15,- and will be placed on a blacklist. If you are on the blacklist, you cannot visit future editions of the LED. Location The LED 2016 takes place in the World Trade Center (WTC) Rotterdam (Beursplein 37). The WTC is an extraordinary representative, modern and stylish accommodation for congresses, events and other activities.

Traveling Information By public transport: take the train to Rotterdam Central Station. From Rotterdam Central Station you can take tram 8, 21, 23, 24 or 25 and get off at stop ‘Beurs’.

By car: the World Trade Center Rotterdam is located in the city center. You can park in the WTC-V&D parking garage (Leeuwenstraat 2) with 350 parking spaces and two E-LOADING points. Parking expenses will not be compensated.

Guest speakers Peter van Manen Peter is an engineer. He was an undergraduate at the University of Adelaide and moved to the UK in 1980 to begin his working career. He is Australian, but has spent most of his working life in the UK. Career He began his career in the aerospace industry, but quickly moved into railways and mining when conducting research for the National Coal Board (now British Coal) in the UK. He then worked for a few years in Perth, Western Australia, with some of the biggest and longest trains in the world, operating between iron ore mines and ports. He returned to the UK and worked for an engineering consultancy before taking on a senior engineering role at McLaren Electronic Systems in 1992.

Peter worked for McLaren for over 22 years, running the electronics company from 2003. Under his stewardship, the company evolved from supplying control and data systems for a single Formula One team in 1993 to supplying standard electronics to all competitors in Formula One, NASCAR and IndyCar. Current position Peter left McLaren to take up his current role, running engineering for Living PlanIT SA, in May 2015. The company provides software, specifically its PlanIT Urban Operating System, to cities, real estate developers and infrastructure providers. The UOS helps make sense of the rich and diverse data that exists in urban environments provoking decisions and interventions that can make things run better with fewer surprises. Traffic, energy, water, waste and healthcare all flows better with the right mix of sensing and software.

Sophie Conijn Sophie Conijn coaches students and young professionals based on the principles of Positive Pychology. In contrast with traditional psychology that focuses on pathology, Positive Psychology focuses on individual and societal flourishing—on cultivating happiness, strengths, self-esteem, and optimism. Sophie believes that focusing on ‘what works’ will increase the chances of being happy, and thus, successful.

Career After completing her studies in Psychology at Utrecht University, she started her career as a Recruiter at McKinsey & Company in 2007. The challenging and international culture provided the perfect learning environment, but after four years she decided to resign and take the time to expand her horizon. She divided this time between interim recruitment projects for different organizations, such as PGGM and McKinsey & Company, and helping students and young professionals to discover their talents. Sophie joined SparkOptimus as People Development Manager in July 2014. In this role, she could use the knowledge and experience she had gained during the past years to professionalize the different aspects of people development.

Current position Since a couple of weeks, she has exchanged the consulting world for Nyenrode Business University, where she is part of the Sports Inc. team and is developing the Sports Leadership Program. This program is an international oriented program specifically designed for (future) talented leaders in a high performance sports environment. Besides that, she has picked up coaching again (Sophie & Talent) and hopes to inspire many, many people to live their lives from a positive perspective!
