I wrote, produced and directed my first play when I was 15 and it was called, ‘The Glass Hero’ My play was performed for four nights and on the first night, a theatre critic from a local newspaper came to review it I learned a great deal about being a playwright when her review was published the following morning When I look back over ‘The Glass Hero’ today, I am filled with feelings of pity and pride: it was flimsy and full of flaws, but it spoke with my voice and this, I have come to realise, is key

Determined to improve, I quickly wrote three more plays and, haltingly, I began the long, torturous journey towards learning how to set scenes, structure dialogue, and bring characters to life

I think that a successful screenwriter must somehow possess the agility of a tightrope walker, carefully balancing plotlines, character arcs, and dialogue with the precision of a seasoned acrobat It is a juggling act of crafting compelling narratives while keeping the audience on the edge of their seats Late nights are spent hunched over a keyboard, concocting scenes that will - hopefully - leave the audience breathless or clutching their sides with laughter

So, embrace the pleasure and excitement of screenwriting, but remember, it is not all glitz and glamour I have learned that it takes dedication, persistence, and an unwavering belief in the power of storytelling The road may have its bumps, but the destination is worth every twist and turn So grab your pen, buckle up, and get ready for the adventure of a lifetime! Lights, camera, action!
