Common Admixtures Used in Construction of Concrete Structures Concrete admixtures are special materials added to the concrete mix during the batching phase to prevent water ingress, enhance its properties before/after hardening or reduce the cost of production. There are several types of concrete admixtures in the market offered by admixture companies in India that serve various purposes. The following are some of the most commonly used admixtures: Crystalline waterproofing admixtures Water permeability reducing crystalline admixtures are the latest innovation in concrete admixtures and are added to the concrete mix to absorb water, moisture & liquid contaminants. The chemicals in the admixture react with moisture in the fresh concrete to create unsoluble crystals that provide a permanent seal to ingress. Water reducing admixtures Water-reducing admixtures are incorporated in concrete to reduce the water intake by 5-10% during batching without affecting the flowability of the concrete mix. Also called as plasticizers, water-reducing admixtures quicken the speed of concrete placement, improve its strength & durability, and reduce water permeability. High-range water-reducing admixtures High-range water-reducing admixtures by construction chemicals manufacturers in India, like ECMAS, are of a higher grade than standard plasticizers and are used to create high-strength concrete. Also called superplasticizers, they help in reducing the water intake in the concrete mix by 1230% and are popular in self-levelling concrete applications. Accelerating admixtures Accelerating admixtures by top admixture companies in India improves concrete's early age strength by reducing its setting time and increasing the rate of hydration.
